There be anyone breakfasting? Brooke suggested we pop over and catch up with some of ya (the others aren't worth catching up with :)) since we have to buy some stuff for the mini in the big smoke.

Can't ride because it's "service the mini since we're selling it to buy a ute day" today. I admit that it's a mouth full but Brooke didn't like my idea of calling it Operation Half Car.

Did you go? I was going to pop in with my daughter, but things conspired against us and we didn't make it. I would like to catch up with you some time!

St.Jim and St.Heather led 7 of us on a merry journey in the sunshine today, keeping us to a very sensible speed at all the sensible times. Don't know what the route was, but saw some more of the Waikato that I'd never visited before and experienced some lovely twisty roads. Ended up at the Bus-stop (I think?) cafe at Mangakino.

If you are ever headed to Mangakino on a sunny day like today was - take your togs! Oh, and cash too, 'cos they don't have eftpos.

Back home via Te Kuiti and a quick stop at Tiffany's cafe. Casualty of the day was silentwar's side-stand, shaking itself loose after he passed through the sound barrier. Didn't see much police presence on the road, one camera-van just before Ohaupo.

Nice way to spend a nice day. Cheers folks. :sunny:

Yeah we did. Everyone buggered off while we were having brekky so the 3 of us ate alone. Unfortunately, with us being there so "late" for breakfast I had to do the right thing and help them get rid of the food.

Bugger! ;)

Was wondering if you would pop in. It's be AGES!

Anyone ride today?

Despite being totally foobahed after a weekend of dance competition (and don't bloody ask - we did shit ) I ventured out this morning - looped through Rotowaro Rd from Huntly and back to Ngaruawahia. Love that road - twisty, quite fast and little traffic...

Met one copper at Te Kowhai - only one I saw.

I actually PASSED A BIKE on the Waingaro Road...:gob:. Damn - that doesn't happen very often...maybe it was someone on their first ever ride...yeah - that MUST be it...

Yeah I did that road today. Went along there, back onto the 22, got to my mates, turned around and did it again except headed towards ragtown.

Sorry to ditch the ride yesterday, spotted a road I've been meaning to ride so went and did that instead :scooter:

Since I've done the napier ride I've been thinking of doing the Gizzy mission next. Gotta find a reason to though.

I tell ya, the last 2 nights not so much. The bugger has been taking 3 hours to go to sleep then waking us up at 6am as well as through the night! Hopefully we've sorted it though. If not, I think Brooke might kill me tomorrow. She's none-too-happy since the truck we were looking at might have gone. It was a bloody good price too.

Oh well, too slow off the mark if it has.

Looking to see if anyone is interested in this Sunday 7th November meet up with some blast from the past bikers. let me know so we can book!!

Have a loose plan for a Sunday afternoon/twilight run.
Starting around late afternoon and finishing with tea @Naike Caves Cafe covering twisty sealed roads around the North Waikato.
Run will start at Huntly and Mercer respectivly so as to appease the Auckland and Hamilton crews, and then the 2 groups will converge and continue on to the cafe for tea, maybe go see the monster wind thingame before tea as it's just a bit further down the same road and it's sealed to the turbine bit.
Thinking about 2- 2.5 hrs of scenic Waikato then dinner at around 6pm should have you fed and heading home by 7- 7.30 which still gives decent daylight. I have checked with the cafe and they can be ready and waiting to do us an early tea if I give numbers prior, so there will be none of that swamping a hungie bunch of BFTP'ers tends to do to an eatery.
Date will be 7th of next month depending on avaliability of a few helpers.
So who's keen?

You know you have not ridden for a while when you borrow your old mans Yamaha TRX 850 and go for a good tyre scrubbing session... feel Great!, Then 1 hour later have your lower back muscles collapse and not be able to walk for the next 2 days, bed ridden for Tuesday.

LOL!!!

Lesson Learn t : Keep Riding!!! a.k.a Buy a cheaper bike so you don't have to sell it :P

Other lesson, Rock climbing 2-3 times a week is doing nothing for my lower back!

Hope all is well on the Laxy front :)

Media Release

Croz: Larrikin Biker

by Graeme Crosby

Release Date: NOVEMBER 2010 | RRP: $44.99 | HARPERCOLLINS Publishers

I lifted up my UV-cracked visor with my thumb. ‘Which way does the track go and what’s the lap record?’ I called out over the noise of the valve gear rattling and clanging between my legs. The flag marshal’s eyebrows raised in disbelief. I could see him muttering, ‘And who the hell do you think you are — Mike Hailwood?’

In 1979, a little-known Kiwi racer made his way to Britain arriving with his worldly possessions in a carry-bag. His racing suit draped over his left shoulder, a scratched helmet in his right hand and just £150 in his wallet, he was ready to take on the world. Four years and two world championships later, he had achieved more than most riders could ever hope for in a lifetime of racing.

Graeme Crosby, or ‘Croz’, as he is affectionately known to millions of fans, went on to win The Daytona 200, in which only six winners have been from outside the United States or Canada in Daytona’s 71-year history. He won The Imola 200, The Suzuka 8 hour, and the notoriously dangerous Isle of Man Tourist Trophy in only his second year on the island at age 25.

In Croz’s final year in the Isle of Man, 1981, he was acknowledged as the best rider of the four-stroke machines in the world and smashed the lap record.

He is the last of a certain breed of motorcyclists; he could, and did, ride just about anything.

In his own words, Croz: Larrikin Biker is his journey from the grassroots of New Zealand motorcycle racing through Australia, Japan, the UK and Europe.

He was adored by the Aussies as he rode in true buccaneering style on a modified street bike against Australia’s best GP stars, and he shocked the Japanese taking on the mighty Honda endurance racing team, again on a modified bike, and breaking the lap record. He wowed the Brits coming fourth in his first attempt at the Tourist Trophy races at the Isle of Man and gained superstar status, drawing crowds wherever he raced.

But it wasn’t only winning that Croz was known for. His humour and showmanship won him a legion of fans around the world. Unlike many motorsports people, Croz had the attitude that racing was show business and that if people paid to watch him race, then they were going to get their money’s worth. He’d pull wheelies at the unlikeliest of places and once, while racing against Mike ‘the Bike’ Hailwood, found time to stand on the footrests and bow to the Hailwood fans as he flashed around the outside of the legendary Englishman.

After shaking up the racing establishment in Britain, Croz tried his hand at Grand Prix racing and often beat the world’s best, but after three seasons he’d had enough and quit. Many think this legendary speed demon quit too soon.

In Croz: Larrikin Biker, Croz reveals his reasons for quitting, the crashes, the pain, the elation of winning and the international controversies as well as the politics, boycotts and tragic fatalities, while winning a few world championships along the way.

Graeme Crosby now lives at Matakana, north of Auckland, where he and his wife are establishing their own piece of paradise. This is his first book. It doesn’t show.

Hi, Are the BFTP'ers riders of older bikes? If so, I'll be a starter on the ole GB500tt. Those are neat roads and it would be nice to ride with some company. What time would you be planning to meet up at Huntly?
If the charity bike ride ( mentioned above) finishes before this ride, I might do both runs.

Nothing planned for this weekend - To busy for me in the morning with rowers everywhere.

I suggest for the following week as many as can come along to the charity ride JMK has alluded to above. LOR's have attended for the last couple of years and there is a bit of a BBQ at the end (gold coin or something) and a real mix of bikes, cars etc

Its a good day and for a good cause. I have added a calendar entry in for those wishing to come!!!!! Generally finished by 2.30ish.

Also if anyone interested in the BFTP dinner ride 7th Nov let me know!!

Be careful out there!!! Sad news at Hampton Downs today!! Gutted

Message from Dodyiti (guzzi rider) re time etc. Can meet up in Hams if you want!

"I talked to Motu yesterday and he is keen (well, he was mumbling about no time to think up an excuse) so the 7th it is. May as well meet in Huntly, say the power station park with the carving accross the road from the power station at 4pm?"

Yep all pre 1990 bikes. My wife rides a GB400TT. May be a few LOR riders too on newer bikes. I think theres about 8 people going so far.

Where was everyone on Sunday?/ About 7 or 8 of LOR group turned up and about 30 odd bikes total, varied in all shapes, sizes and ages. It was a pretty easy 150km ride but most people managed to get lost and it all added to the fun of the day. The special needs school put on a decent day, cheap food, drinks hot rod display, bikes and raffles. Those that missed it missed a good worthwhile cause day!!!

So have you got the GB500 running. Sounds like electrical fault. Trina had similar problem and we traced it to bad contacts from the +ive lead to the rectifier, so in effect it was running on battery only losing voltage.

The rider with the Leverda is Kerry and you can private message him on kiwibiker - name kb_SF1 if you click on his name in the calendar for the ride on Sunday it will go to his profile and you can leave a message.

Not sure about ride this Sunday as trina and i are maybe going to Hampton Downs to watch Nigels mini racing. Anyone else want to organise something go for it!

Will be good to have you along - all rides are done at your own pace and no pressure to keep up. Lately the LOR has been getting between 5-12 bikes on rides with more and more coming out with the Sun. If you read the first couple of posts of the thread the whole group is about enjoying riding and not there for the race. Will be good to see you one Sunady. Keep an eye out for posted rides and calendar entrys

No organised ride this weekend as a lot are away or working. Motor cycling Hampton Downs over the weekend and motor- racing at puke. Mental Trousers will be racing at Hampton Downes if you want to head up that way.

Great ride on Sunday and thanks to all who made the effort to attend the MAG-NZ rally, ended up with 13 bikes from the LOR group and welcome to Mark on his comet who was a first time rider with us and good to see another Mark? PC22 and Peter St Gabriel join us for a first ride with the group.

I really enjoyed the ride from a few months ago down to Te Kuiti and back up Rangitoto road, Barber Rd then the long way back up Waipa River Rd and hooking back into Te Awamutu.

I would like to see entire Te Anga road from Waitomo round to Kawhia, also I want to do the Bennydale loop anti-clockwise.

I am keen to go up 22 sometime this summer at some stage..

The fush and chups are good at Manga but god they know how to charge! Cool location though. I've always liked that about it.

Thinking of doing a ride down to lake tarawera on Wednesday. Anyone know a good route?

Not that it matters any more but I went down a couple of awesome roads on my way rafting today. Oturoa and Hamurana Roads. The second runs along the top of Lake Rotorua.

I did but I think she's moved from there.:innocent: From Te A I'd go down thru the dam country and across Artimuri. Come back over the Mamakus to Okoroire, have a couple of cold ones then return via French pass. Not fast roads but heaps of corners.

Girlfriend going for her license on Sunday. Given her two quick lessons at the uni car park across the road. She hasn't dropped my bike yet! She is getting fairly good at starting and riding around and even changing gears (never driven a manual car...well once or twice but we wont go there....). The guys at RiderSkills in Auckland will get her going good. Their bikes should be much easier for her to learn on.

Happy New Year all.

Anyway seems that everyone is away or busy for the next couple of weeks so rides are off until the 16th of January when we will do a good one. probably down piopio Waitomo way, maybe via or back via the Kawhia road. Details will be discussed between now and then. The idea would be for me to shout breakfast for the group as a new years get together and head off for what will be a good 200-250km ride. Would be nice to see some new faces and new riders are more than welcome. Also be good to catch up with some of the longer serving members of the group!!

What bikes were you riding? Back in the late eighties, Our group, the Matamata road riders did a similar run. We headed over the Kaimais to Tga, down to Whakatane. Around the cape to Gisborne, back thru the gorge to Opotiki, over the Mamaku's.
Coming thru the gorge late afternoon was interesting. Half the corners were like riding into black holes due to the sun in our eyes. I did the trip on my XZ400 with a pillion. Three others also had pillions. Took us about 12 hours, 880k's back to Putaruru.

Is quite satisfying to complete a decent run without incident.

I did a similar loop on Saturday but went through to SH43 via Okau rd then Stratford, Bellblock then SH3 home, glad to see they have finished sealing the road from Mt Dampner through to Tahora, but there was still a 8km section of gravel to contend with but nothing major to worrying about... 500km round trip

Took it in today and I still haven't heard anything. If it's not ready by the weekend it'll be a serious issue which I highly doubt. If pigs fly and that happens I'll just have to sweet talk a loan Stripple for the ride :D

For those of you who have been on a LOR in the past and could not make it on Sunday. Just a brief summary. Left the Hotel 10.30 very sharp with 19 bikes and picked up another 2 as we were leaving and another one in Pirongia (22 in total). Beautiful hot day and some new faces and some old ones and a good group. Managed to get a little confused heading to Pirongia but all got there safely. Ride through to Kawhia was great with good roads and excellent conditions, from there through to Waitomo and then onto Piopio was interesting with roadkill, melting tar, horses, punga's etc on the road but fabulous scenery and roads. Stopped at Piopio for a bite to eat and back up to otorahanga (4 bikes did the half trip heading home from Waitomo). Took the back road to Te Awamutu and regrouped. Lost mikemike and not sure where he went to as Trina passed him on way to Otorahanga but I didnt see him. Hope you got home OK and your bike stopped overheating!!

All in all a great ride and nice to meet some new people.

That melting tar added interest to the ride I'd hafta say. Third time I've been through there - only time with liquid roads. First time the road was covered with grit from the winter. Second time I went through Marakopa and down to Awakino so missed the hill section over to Waitomo.

See ya all next time I can get out.

Turns out the bike has a blown head gasket :crybaby: so its sitting at Honda Hamilton till they have enough staff back from holiday to be able to look at fixing it, In the meantime they wouldn't lend me a bike so I'm set to rely on the wife & workmates to get to work and back till its done, they also think it needs one or maybe two engine mounts (plus associated bits and pieces) so it may be at the shop for a week or so I guess and I'm sure it will be another $1200 - 1500 dollars spent. It'll be a six thousand dollar 89 GPX after this!

Sorry to have lost you all, I have no idea how that happened because I thought I was behind Trina but in front of Channan and Murray?? I got to Shell(?) in oto's and refilled the radiator then cruised home slowly because after being at the petrol station for half an hour and still having seen none of the rest of you I rightly presumed I was on my own.

Good ride though, I've never been down that back road from Waitomo to the end of Trooper's road.

Oh and a big thanks to Murray for cleaning my bike while i ate breakfast!! :niceone:

Two things i forgot to do were clean the bike and clean the visor. I did remember to check tyre pressure and put fuel in it though :bleh:

Sorry didnt realise you stopped at the Petrol Station we turned left at the Kiwi house just up the road and thats when we noticed you missing so thought you had gone straight back to Hamilton with your bike overheating and all. Bad news about the bike:weep::weep:

OHHH, I get where I went wrong then, I had thought you would be turning left going past that petrol station and up that road... but I was incorrect in my presumption.

OUCH!!! That has got to hurt!
Surely you could pick up another engine for that many notes?

I'm hoping to get out for a ride this weekend if the weather is good and I get the Hyo sorted out, needs a new chain n sprokets and a WOF.

Have a soft spot for that Speed Triple ah? ;) Nice bike that. Made me want a hooligan machine even more.

But I've spent sooooooooo much already on the one that's in it!

Bloody ninja's ah! That's the one reason I brought new for my "learner" period. I couldn't afford to fix an old scream machine if it needed it. Of course, getting a good deal on a new bike makes the difference.

Pick of the bunch ah? It would certainly piss me off. I had the gasket go in my first car. The guy said he could fix it as long as it didn't need an engine change because he didn't have the kit for it. Got the bill for $700. New engine $300 and the bugger knew it would cheaper to swap the engine. He told us afterwards that it was a shame he didn't have the gear to do it! Yes, a 'shame' for me too.

Thanks for the offer mate, I really do appreciate it but I could'nt borrow your bike, I'd call you a mate for offering me some wheels but dont even know you... what if I bined it !

Should be sweet, I just talked to Honda Hamilton, they are pricing up parts atm and expect to get stuck into it tomorrow or Friday I hope... then allowing for delays I hope to have it back next weekend.

U bin it, you buy it :bleh: LOL. Nah, if you want to borrow the bike, I'd just name you on the insurance and you can pay any excess for damage. No big deal... though my missus will need the bike to sit her 6R on the 1st of Feb, but hopefully yours will be back to you before then. If you do want to, I'd just ask you pay for any insurance premium increase (not sure if there'd be one) and return it with a full tank o' petrol :niceone:
The offers there if you want, but no worries if you'd prefer not to :scooter:

Mike I've found that no matter how often you hear the phrase " ride at your own pace" it never happens when on a small bike in a group. Been there on a 250 on group runs and it always finishes up trying not to hold up the bikes behind, or trying to keep up with the guys up front. Usually it starts with trying to take corners quicker than you would riding on your own, then wringing the bikes neck getting to the next corner.

You have to teach yourself to ride within the bike's performance , and within your own confidence. Nice theory, but hard to do. unfortunately, men are born with this tetestorone stuff. Kinda blows the common sense theory out the window.

I suppose it would be the same as turning up at a prostitutes picnic with a small dick.:bleh: You might go all day but never stand out from the crowd. so just pace yourself and the fun will be the same.

Looking at a shorter ride this weekend - Last Sunday was a little longer than we usually travel but it had been so long and it was the first LOR group ride of the year. Thinking at this stage up the back road to Huntly, Heatherington Road to SH22, down SH22 to waingaro and through to Raglan for coffee. Not to long but good roads.

Saturday 22 Often cloudy, with some rain at times. Southeast breezes.
Sunday 23 Scattered rain clearing and becoming fine. Southeast breezes

Anyone wants to suggest a ride or put one are they are more than welcome. Only committed ones in the near future will be the Okoroire MAG & ACC run 13th Feb, Paeroa Street races or MAG kaiuia ride 20th Feb and the Ulysses Teddy beer run 27th Feb. Not 100% sure of the dates but they will be the rides for the LOR group on those days.

ACC Okoroire run is March 13th & will be a MAG-NZ ride from Hamilton, joining up with other MAG riders from North, South, East & West. Looks like its going to be a great day- More details to come. Could be looking at a largish group so set aside the date & join MAG-NZ & LOR in an awsome day :2thumbsup
There is a MAG charity ride to Kaiaua hotel Feb 20th - Will post details in calender soon, Unfortunately it does clash with Paeroa but dates are firm.
There is a HUGE ride in April but details not yet to be released

MAG-NZ ,for those who don't know stands for "Motorcyle Action Group", It is represented here in the Waikato by yours truly & MAG_NZ will stand up for & push for all motorcylists rights. Flyers & Membership forms will be soon be available from our branch's club rooms (Te Rapa Tavern :msn-wink:)
Have a look at their Home Page here - http://www.mag-nz.org/ & keep an eye out for upcoming events.

As youngsters, we would cycle out to Okoroire and sneak along the river bank by the pools. Then peek through the holes in the corrogated iron fencing to see if anyone was in the pools naked:msn-wink:

Parking is going to be at a premium. A ride down thru French pass either there or back would be the most interesting route there from Hamilton, I think.

I've never really had too much trouble holding the bigger bikes on a ride unless I'm heading up hill, that is when the lack of cc's really shows its ugly ugly ugly neck.:third:

The best advice (coming from a 250 pilot who has done 20'000ks since November '09 :niceone:) is to not wring it that little bit extra unless you really really have to (ie over taking a muppet car or racing a Hyosung :msn-wink:). The Hyo red lines at 11k, most the time I shift around 7k and really focus on holding a good speed through the corners. The only time I've really given her a good thrash time after time was on Pukekohe when I was battling my mate on his Hyo.

Basically if you need to push it that little bit extra just to keep up, don't, it's not worth it, but don't be a Nanna either cause we all know a 250 ridden well aint that bad at all. And anyway, bring on the full license!!!

For quite a while, I rode a KR250. and boy that thing would fly if you knew how to make it go. In top gear it was just coming into the powerband at 120k's, at 140 was so smooth. On that Kawhia/ harbour road, we went on, it would have kept the bigger bikes honest. The fuel consumption was the biggest drawback.
As Autech says, it aint worth flogging the smaller bike, as I said, it's hard not too.

It's not good news for the wee white rocket (or not so rocket as what would have seemed to have contributed to the issue at hand).... looking at a top end rebuild now as one of the piston heads is damaged, but the concern then is that if the top gets rebuilt the bottom will get stressed and so why don’t we do that at the same time?

Good question I asked, why we don’t do that at the same time... so I'm waiting on prices now, good times... good times.
