I need to put a few kms on the bike before a service next week so if it anything like fine I'm off down to Benneydale via Pirongioa and Otohanga and back via Barryville, Wharepapa South & Kihikihi etc, about 280 kms.
Will be stopping for a coffee somewhere, so if your want to tag along I'll be leaving Caltex Dinsdale about 10:30 AM.

So who is actually riding on Sunday? Not that I'll be, still no bike (just making conversation :)). Although, I'm picking up more parts tomorrow for my bike that I don't have. I'm thinking that I should have enough to lie on the floor and make brooooom noises so I can get my fix.

Just my luck my bike will turn up and the weather will pack in.

Hey there Murray, that's looks like a great day out.
However, I was planning on going to the 'boys day out' at Mystery Creek that day, now dunno, will have to see...
oh yeah, have a stag do on the Saturday before so perhaps I won't be fit for any 2-wheeled adventuring! :apint:

It's still in the computer awaiting editing...so much footage it's proving hard to get it together...might just do a mish-mash combo...one day...I hope...maybe...

Just got back from a nice jaunt to Kawhia, not too bad-a-ride but sick to death of slippery tar! Bring on cooler weather I say

I'm doing the coro loop tommorrow, meeting my mate at mercer at 8.30 tommorrow morning, hope to heck that I can get up early enough.

Well, because I'm special, they're actually making it special, or made it and it's on its way. Can't really remember which but it'll pretty much be the only one outside of the UK (until someone orders another). How dumb is that!? I'm gonna go see the dealer the week before I head down south to see where it's at. So that's in about 3 weeks. Hopefully I hear before then. I've got all the bling parts for it I want though! (fat good that is)

As for Brooke's bike...I've been riding it for little trips. Just not the same though :( I just want the more responsive brakes and handling :) It's been good to get my groove back though.

Not sure when either but prolly earlyish since hafta leave for d'Auckland at 1.00pm...might go look for the local tag maybe. Won't have time for Coro loop but could do the bottom loop maybe...I'll see.

OK here it is...I'll leave Gull Norton Road at 8.00am...(I hope)

Just for locals - for your information;
Gillard rd - off Tuhikaramea Rd to Ngahinapouri
If you're planning on riding Gillard Rd at the moment, then be a bit careful of the unsign-posted loose stones they've put on the road, caught some one out today - totaled a ZX7, Riders pretty sore but ok
Wouldn't want to see anyone else become a victim

Yeah but who wants to be like you common folk? Every man and his poodle has a black or red bike. Such little imagination :) Sure, if I chose a colour that everyone has I'd have been riding it but 4 months now. But I consider myself just that little bit special...(and have to wait for forken ages for the privilege!)

Good trip down through Benneydale and across to Wiapapa rd, only 1 small bit of road works and almost no traffic other than bikes. A bit cool in the middle but warmed up from Wharepapa.

A good group having a coffee at the Wharepapa cafe, bikes were nicely lined up, well done those guys.

Speaking of guys, 3 passed, or tried to on the way out to Pirongia, 1 passed, 1 pulled in on top of me and1 was behind, reason oncoming car and not enough clear room for the over take. They continued the same antics to Pirongia were they stopped. Certainly giving the acc propaganda some credibility.

Lots of twisties and interesting corners down that way and good for a group ride.

Did the 1/2 loop this weekend with another enthusiast, was great apart from the start of the kopu hikuai road being glass and the pilot powers being a tad on the slippery side! fun apart from that tho. Had some dude in a BMW suv.. thing... trying to hog the road on the Whanga > Waihi road, i know yer ass is huge but both lanes? he didn't last long :shifty: damn boat must have weighed 4 tonnes...

Yeah hard to know, it's been a relatively common theme with BMW's (or drivers) for me.

Saw a MINT R8 Commodore at kopu-hikuai turnoff, he gave it shit to show off then pulled over to let us pass. I was most impressed, it would have been annoying if he'd slowed us up in those corners :)

When I did that loop, I went anti-clockwise. There was a BMW SUV tank-thing held everyone up on the section over Hikuai - Thames...had a line-up of ten or more cars behind and just pootled on without giving any space...

Well it's official. If I want to go on rides, I'm gonna have to take wife-ie's bike. I found out my bike is made...and sitting waiting for some friends to make the trip down under. It's obviously scared of the dark and doesn't want to go into a container by itself without someone to hold it's hand. So they reckon 6-7 more weeks...after it was ordered in November. Like Brooke said "I hope it's worth it".

No shit!

So when I come back from holiday, I shall be joining y'all for a ride.

First time for MISRED up that way, (other than on the back of mine). Great to see her riding with some real confidence. zipping past cars, taking on the corners & generally having a blast. :Punk: Lots of traffic for a non holiday weekend & that bridge coming home was jammed. Came home via Paeroa & Te Aroha. Was only about 5 k's longer & by far a better route than across the plains. Star & Garter @ Coro a great lil pub. Up n back to Coro a real good option if you don't want to do the full loop.
Last round of NZ bike champs @ HD raceway 27-28 March , think its only $12-15 to get in but don't quote me .

Planning to head up to Tron for luncho, then mebbe home down SH3 & SH30

Back now:

Rode up SH1, avoiding as many of the looney Sunday drivers as possible - there seemed to be a glut of them between Karapiro & Cambridge. Went for lunch at 'House' (used to be loaded hog). Got a bit of sun out on the deck, while waiting for the food. Food was good, took a long time to come, and I think the waitstaff are still kinda learning. Decided to forego a couple of shopping type things I had planned on doing in the Tron, in order to spend a bit more time cruising.

Rather than take SH3, we tooled off down SH 23, and since I gassed up in Tron, we decided at the last minute to head out to Kawhia. On the way back from Kawhia, the clatterclank of the footboard scraping and springing up thru the corner was something new. :innocent:

Rocked on thru Otorohanga and Arapuni, then back to Tokalofa along Old Taupo Rd.

The ride presented plenty of waving opportunities :Punk: The group of Adv bikes coming out of Otorohanga looked like they had had a good time.

The refuel after lunch in Tron was exactly 10L, which even I was able to work out that we are getting approx 19 km/Litre 2- up. It has a custom single pipe rather than the standard twins, and I will get the ECU mapping checked at next service, so fuel economy may even improve.

Ideally someone at the pub on the Wednesday night will come up with a ride for the Sunday and post in the thread and it would also be good if they put a calander entry up as well for the LOR Sunday ride. Unfortunately I have not been there the last 2 Wednesdays and it appears nothing has been sorted as a group ride but smaller groups have done something on there own. Sorry that no one was there on Sunday insomnia I guess nothing was organised.

Was a great day for a ride and pity some more could not join us. The Bikes, Blues and BBQ was pretty good for a first year event. Good live music, good food, good atmosphere and lots of bikes coming and going. A real mixture of bikes and all good fun. Definately go again next year.

I dunno if I'll be riding this weekend or not. Absolutely shagged after my 2 weeks down south. Might be getting a few things done on the house (again) since wifey and little1 are staying in New Plymouth for the weekend. Might drag wifey's bike out to give it some fresh air.

Keep us posted if anything else is planned. That way I can pick and choose whos doing the best route ;)

Doing my restricted in 1 week - been counting it down for ages!

I assume it'll be pretty straight forward but would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has done their restricted in Hamilton recently.
Like the route they use, headset or watch for indicators, specific things they might look out for etc.

Cheers for any feedback (smartarse comments most welcome!)

All going well no more L-plate ...

The restricted one is a piece of cake. Check if the tester wants you to travel at 100 when needed. A small percentage of testers so stay at 70 max,but the logical ones want to see if you can handle "the speed" of 100, so it's best to ask before hand.

The restricted is a piece of cake though, just emphasis head turning and looking in mirrors, look down side roads and give yourself plenty of room.

As for the headset, they put some pressure on your ears and most of the testers can't even use them properly. My tester would speak before pushing the button! Which you can imagine is an asshole when they're only telling you one word instructions like right of left. I missed turns because of the moron. I thought if I gave him a lesson he might take offense. So just be prepared for it. I stopped and told the guy I couldn't hear anything so went to the indicators on the car. Much easier then putting up with him yelling down the radio. (The dick head asked me if I knew my right from left!!)

The u-turn would be the only tricky thing, usually done in a dead-end street though.

You'll be sweet, it's just like riding a bike :D

Good luck for the R test Dazz. I've got mine booked for the end of the month, so I'm keen to hear how (and where) it goes. When I booked I asked about the headset (or not) and they said, yes it would be someone in a car following with a headset. Just out of interest - did you have any trouble with the eye-sight machine? I could not for the life of me see three columns. Had to go and pay $20 to visit the optometrist who said my eyesight was fine. Went back to the AA and they said "oh yeah, it happens to lots of people". I'm thinking maybe I need to contact LTSA and suggest the machine has a once over or something because it seems unfair if lots of people are having to fork out $$$ to an optometrist for nothing.

Also - wondering if any of the Waikato Laxed Out riders have time free during the weeks to go riding between 9-3ish. Unfortunately most of my work is in the evenings and weekends (GRRR!), but would still like to have others to ride with. Have to work it around school drop-off and pick-up too. Just putting it out there.

Good luck there are a few around who may be interested but its hard enough to get LOR's to ride on Sundays lately. Seems hibernation has set in at the end of summer. For those interested will look at a route for Sunday at the pub meeting tonight (if anyone shows up - poorest turn out yet last week)

Hey Rusty

Will let you know how I get on.
I really struggled with the eyesight machine too but it was at VTNZ - I had to close one eye to see the 1st column. My wife looked in, cause I told the joker there his machine was faulty, but she could see it fine (or so she reckons the smart b*tch!!).

Ah bugger will be in Taupo on Sunday :(

I am free Monday so i could be keen for a ride somewhere just give me a yell if ya want me rusty.

My restricted route (which i did end of last year) was this (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Enderley+Ave&daddr=Enderley+Ave+to:John+St+to:Spenser+Rd+to:Wor dsworth+Cres+to:Peachgrove+Rd+to:Peachgrove+Rd+to: Unknown+road+to:-37.773365,175.294939&hl=en&geocode=Feifv_0dGMpyCg%3BFRSnv_0dZNhyCg%3BFWapv_0d eNZyCg%3BFd61v_0dxtByCg%3BFWm9v_0dR9ByCg%3BFaG2v_0 dCLhyCg%3BFQeZv_0dLNJyCg%3BFdx-v_0dQRtzCg%3B&mra=mi&mrcr=7&mrsp=8&sz=18&sll=-37.77353,175.296199&sspn=0.002816,0.005681&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.774141,175.303216&spn=0.022524,0.045447&z=15)

Started at A. Pulled into carparking area at C. Road through to G where we stopped again ( i had roadworks on Spenser road so had to stick to 30 or 40). Then road to H where the test stopped (as in he had seen enough by then so didn't have to keep him in sight) and road back to the AA.

You may have a different route though!

No U-Turns for me just the smallish roundabout by the uni. Everything is explained before the test and there is no reason to be nervous. Make sure everything is working on the bike and ride safely! Turn your head to check down all the roads you pass and check both ways at the railway tracks.

AWESOME! Good one Dazz, that sucker was totally trying to tear itself off on the ride the other day, flapping around like nana's bloomers in a Wellington gale. Maybe we need to make a thread for 'uses for old L plates' (similar to the 'uses for old tyres' one). The testers don't have much sense of humour do they?

My R tester was reasonably relaxed didn't really joke with him though, but my Full Tester was a legend. Funny as hell (well for a tester) and was a biker too. Was telling me how he would fly past idiot car drivers at 120 just to scare the shit out of them. He had a giggle when I got confused with something while riding (didn't know which exit to take on a round-about).

He would be rare though. The Hamilton ones are dickheads I've heard.

hey chaps...great to see some more 250cc riders in the group. I'll be down for next Sundays ride assuming my Honda is up and running from sitting still for 3 months.

Also what does rego cost these days? aparently it went up in April due to ACC levies...

According to the NZ Transport Agency (former LTSA) website, they are still the same (as last year) at this point:
Petrol driven - over 61cc 86.00 (3 months) 164.41 (6 months) 321.24 (12 months)

Maybe someone who has just re-licensed can confirm what they paid?

I tried to get Brooke and a mate on that. Brooke came up with the "no insurance" excuse and my mate didn't get her ass into gear and buy some decent gear. Slackers.

Remember it's for C and B group only so you can only pass people doing 230km/h max :scooter:

If you wanna ride through the gorge go the back way. You go through a little town starting with 'M' on the west coast and the roads are awesome. You pop out just after the long straight before the service station in Awakino. It's a big ride though, about 350km round trip and takes 4 hours easy. Oh yeah, and there's that 10+ km gravel road :)

Why don't you head to Gizzy? ;) I've been meaning to do that ride for ages.

yeah they don't have many bends in America and I spent all my time riding farm bikes over there, real weird getting back onto a sports bike after riding dirt bikes for so long. left the group and went for a little spin through te pahu instead of kawhia (I got lost haha)

seems my riding has changed a bit over the months...not sure if it's better or worse yet but I seem to be riding a bit faster...and the bike rides like I was never gone.

one thing i'm trying to confirm...has ACC levies increased rego payments already or do they go up in July (have I still got time)

Au contraire, the bonny fits me exactly:
- the bonny has a classic look - I'm past my prime
- the bonny has a relaxed riding position - I don't have the energy I used to
- the bonny looks cool - I ... um, well yeah, try to look cool in a classic, mature sort of way:cool:

I plan to add a speed triple to the garage later on - when I feel up to managing such an awesome beast.

left the group and went for a little spin through te pahu instead of kawhia (I got lost haha)

Yeh, we couldn't figure where you went for gas; sorry to lose ya - next time eh?

5 bikes headed out to Kawhia today.
I plodded on a fair way behind everyone else - quite hard work for me and the scorpio on those windy, hilly and sometimes rutted roads. I just played it safe and tried to enjoy meself.

Cheers to Jonathan for hanging back with me on the return journey.
I assume the other 3 made it back a.o.k?

"The ACC component of the motor vehicle license fee for a petrol car will increase from $168.46 to $198.46 from 1 July 2010 while the ACC petrol levy will remain at 9.90 cents per litre."

From this website http://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/government+announces+201011+acc+levy+rates

So you'll have to get in before July 1.

Good call, when I went down 2 weeks ago it was only cause I was in full kit that some kind soul came and asked if I was looking for LOR, otherwise with no other bikes there it makes it pretty hard to find anybody.

Hey, after what happened to me I'll definitely have NOOB status as well on the new bike. I certainly don't play at the front. I think the DR would probably be too quick for me :)

The other thing to consider is the seat is little better than a board so I wouldn't be keen to do too many hours in one stretch. And since you guys are often out for several hours, I am not sure my arse would cope LOL
But it would be fun to catch up for a bit of a blat some time.

Yup, gravel on inside of corner :shit: on Fullerton Rd ended my ride pretty smartly! I was amazed how gentle a low side can be, I'm ok but the poor bike has some good road rash. The crash knobs and rear bobbins did a great job of limiting the damage tho

:) I was gonna say why it was short but thought I'd leave it for you. It was funny, I was reading a thread yesterday about someone that found gravel mid-corner and what to do about it. Do you guys have a club? haha.

Seriously though, I've been caught as well (Spaz was there for that too) and it's one of the things a bloody hate about riding bikes on our roads.

in the past 14 months or so:

watched people riding off the road/crashing behind me in my mirror:
Ckai 1 nearly 2
Pathos 1
Johnpom 1

People crashing right in front of me:
Mschvs & 1WheelRiot 1
Sid 1 - didn't manage to avoid getting caught up in this one as i was overtaking him at hampton downs motorsport park at the time

Hey, thats a bit harsh. He should be allowed a second chance.

I think he should be allowed to come provided he is a minimum of 500m ahead at all times, has swept the road of all gravel and debris, fixed up any dodgy council repairs and tarsnakes, warmed all our tyres to the correct temperature before departure, and signposted any dangerous corners.

So this shipment must have the Stripples on as well? Triumph NZ cocked that up a bit

The 22 was in terrible shape a few weekends ago, I'd advise avoiding it if possible. The other roads Heatherington etc are all in real good nick though.
I've been doing a nice little loop up there where I ride up Rotowaro, left onto waikokowai, continue right up Waikokowai, straight on to Rotongaro, then left up Glen Massy and hook onto the 22.
Could use this route and then head on to Port Waikato

The Rotongaro road in particular is one of my most fav's.

Who's in for a ride to Raglan, Kawhia and the surrounding area on Sunday the 16th?

Leaving the Autobahn, Papakura at 08.30 (thats in the morning), Raglan for a coffee, round the mountain to Kawhia for lunch, then a beer at Raglan in the avo.

Maybe pick up any Hamiltonians on the way (Limestone downs?)

Mostly gravel with a flounder in the farmers stream at Bridal Veil falls if it's practical and I promise not to blow up anything at home that prevents me coming this time (fingers crossed).

You know the rally isn't at the Downs on Saturday? The only reason I know is that we're going up to watch the father-in-law race (he is very much not driving a rally car). It'll be good to see these guys (and the rally guys) on the track.
