YEAH YEAH YEAH - My forecast reading was wrong, somehow thought wet weather was coming from the West. Kerry left Welly about 3/4 hour before me but got the heads up from a driver at Waiouru and had a dry trip through National Park. Me no such luck. Took me 2 days to get the black dye off my hands from my wet gloves!

thought i'd go out for a quick blast today after my interview... Interview went well the ride didnt. Came off on one of the turns on the Wainaro bit of road.. T'was about a 25-35km corner and no signage so I came round at 80-90kms... Sharp corners and high speeds dont mix!!!
came off (fuck it) and now need to replace a few things.. Headlight, dash, possibly new bars and a seat and fucked my new Helmet I bought...
thatll teach me i geuss... will try make the Coro loop on Mon if I can get my bike in a resonable state by then...

I know the corners you are talking about dude, They are the ones closer to the Wainaro end ? They are the forever tightening off camber ones :)

Late apexing sorts those bitch's out!, and slow down yeah, read road.

I noted two weekends ago when I went for a blast out Wainaro there the road was in shit repair and super slidey, I assume that was also a contributing factor.

Glad you are ok dude, that is the main thing!

Oh P.S, Orini does not have any more rocks on the road :) So if anyone wants a blat out there they do not have to pack em selfs on the agregate, or in my case distroy tyres.

Well I'm out of the hospital (got out wednesday). Was gonna go for a ride on sunday then remembered I didn't have a helmet...or bike...and can't lift my right leg to walk up stairs let alone swing over a bike :D

but it's better being at home where i can watch bike dvds that jamroll lent. Bloody good actually.

Still waiting on scan for the arm which I'll need to get before thursday otherwise if it need surgery, they'll have to break it again.

But hopefully the bike will get sorted shortly, and i can get back on it as soon as i can walk without two crutches (give me 2 weeks :))

Personally think that a coro loop between Christmas & new year is not great time. LOTS of traffic , LOTS of cops, LOTS of idiots & sticky runny tar. February would be the go I reckon, esp for a group ride on the loop.

3 mths! It's kinda a big thing but they've been surprised at how much I'm walking etc so I'm picking I'll be sorted sooner than that. What's slowing me down is the cramp in my leg ang the sore back. If it wasn't for them I'd actually be walking without the sticks now.

I am heavely committed with Ulysses in Feburary and March.
I have suggested 30 December on the basis that it is a working day, not New Years Eve and most of the Holiday makers will have reached their destination.
We did a Coro Loop on Easter Sunday last year and traffic wasn't too bad.

Will discuss further at the pub meeting on Wednesday.
The alternitive would be to head South or East on 30 December:ride:

26th & 27th is a write off for coro, so is 30th and 31st seriously i wouldn't even bother, it wont be fun!

28th and 29th however are normally ok but better still would be on the 20th of december, the madness starts after xmas.

Conversely if you leave at 7am on any busy day you will miss allot of the traffic until the ride home and if you hit whanga's or coromandel at about 11 then you will be through the chaos and heaving away from where everyone wants to be :)

I would be happy to do Tuesday 29 December if there is interest. Would be leaving the Tron at 7.00 am for Breakfast at Thames.
Otherwise would be happy as an alternative to do about a 400 km tiki tour somewhere south or east of the Tron where holiday traffic won't be such an issue.

At tonights pub meeting the topic was what next on the acc levy increase :shit:

We have had great local protest, a even greater protest in Wgtn, Akld has done the Mission Bay protest and done some great work at the National Party public meeting on Monday night, CHCH have a protest ride this weekend.

To keep the preasure on locally and make sure the local pollies know that we are not going to lie down and accept the lies, deciet and blatant rip-off increase we decided to meet at the Te Rapa Tavern at 4:30 on Saturday to discuss and plan the next steps.

Why face to face, acc and their friends do not need to know whats next. :shifty:

If you want to make sure you don't get hit 3 times next year, bike & car acc increases and a further $0.97 cents per $100 of your wages going to acc you might want to contribute.

had a wicked ride today - did the back roads thru Pokuru - Waitomo Valley Road then the back road to Poipoi - then down to Stratford, and back up the Forgotten World Highway, back Taumarunui, Waitomo to Hamilton

There was no rain, good roads, and very light traffic

We live in a spectacular country don't we, the views were awesome, the bush was lovely, we saw mountains, sea, all sorts of trees including kauri, old pubs, rivers and streams, rolling country side. No cops.
Some days just happen well.

best thing to do would be pop down to the Te Rapa tavern on Wednesday night, burger and beer for $7 (I think) - and meet some of the group.

Having just spent a week touring this lovely Island of ours it sure puts life into perspective when you see what nature has layed down before us literally at our doorstep... we all hear of Canyons that are as wide as Masterton, Waterfalls higher than the commentary box at the cake tin & of course Highways with no limits, but to be frank there is a REAL beauty out there one we can visit anytime we fancy, it won't cost the earth & you can get there within a few hours of leaving home, One you can share with that special someone or by yourself... which everway you want to serve it up our Island is FOOKIN AWESOME PEOPLE !!!

So when you are out enjoying the roads this summer just keep in mind how wonderful NZ is :headbang::headbang::headbang:

I did this ride yesterday morning - just under four hours duration (one coffee stop), all at legal speeds mostly anyway. It was very tempting to continue north and go round the top once I hit 25A...BUT I had stuff I had to do in the middle of the day so like a good boy I returned to do my duty...fukkit!

We should form a political party, put candidates up in the Hamilton electorates, and campaign on common sense issues like ACC, like no wire rope barriers in Waikato roads, like stopping police harassment.
There should be a congestion charge on all vehicles except bikes on the Coro loop, Kawhia Harbour and Waingaro to 22 roads - reducing the amount of other vehicles using those routes (even think about making the Coro loop one way). that should dramatically reduce the amount of accidents on our roads for motorcyclists

I'm sure there's a bunch more policies we could come up with that would appeal to the general populous

Who's with me on this

Apparently after about 1000ks the angelic image wears away, leaving a demonic image in it's place (depending on how you ride)

Sounds like a good tyre...i'd look for one with a harder compound rubber in the middle so it lasts longer but soft compound on the edges for better grip...cool with the logo's appearing on it though...what if you do a burnout?

Dude, you should go to something like the Avon Storms or Pilot Road2's that have the harder compound in the centre. I saw some of the Angels on a touring bike and thought they were a bit of a marketing ploy, but the guy riding on them said they were good in the wet and were excellent for touring/communting. Yeah I am starting to ponder that myself after the further reading I am doing, but I figure I will just have to get em hotter :P, Or just ride a bit more sensible on the road. It was either those or rosso's and yeah absolutely the stupid branding in the middle is just stupid and the promo video's are just wanky yet many do swear by them, BUT! my bike weighs in at around 170kg, touring bike a lot heavyer than that.. so yeah, I might change my mind come tomorrow and get the Rosso's :)

I done some more digging and found only good words about the angels came from Touring riders with bikes and bellys heavyer than I, about 80-100kg more bike and rider than I am packin so a bit too touring orientated for my bikes temperment.

Insomnia popped round today and said he bumped into you at Boyds getting the Powers put on :2thumbsup If they are 2cts you will get amazing mileage (or kilometerage?) as Spazm said. I had over 11,000 on my first set and just changed my second set after 8,000.

I just looked at my Power Ones which are dual compound as well, but it doesn't say 2CT on the side. Maybe Michelin have dropped their single compound stuff and it's all 2CT now?

Have fun on them Leyton. Take it easy while you get used to the new feel and feedback you will get from them, and then you will find your confidence in them go through the roof :ride:

Ahhh, mine will not be the CTs then, Just the powers. I opted for sponge tyres and will go harder if I need to on my next set :)

I already feel very good about these tyres :P And it was in the rain, and they are just brand new! LOL the ride was soo much smoother on the streights and the very VERY lite angles I was riding on the cautious way home hehe, hope it is dry roads tomorrow, might go on a short loop out to Matamata0r or perhaps around that lakey thing next to Huntly, cut across then back down 22 but I would not mind getting 150km of SH in before hitting the twistys again.

Just looked at the Michelin website again and interestingly it say the 2cts are softer on the sides than normal it doesn't say they're harder than normal in the middle.. so you might find they get squarer later rather than wearing out faster as the sides might not wear as fast.. or you'll just have to faster through corners to keep em rounded :)

Leyton
13th December 2009, 12:24
t.. or you'll just have to faster through corners to keep em rounded :)

Lol Yeah I learnt that lesson on my old tyres and started to do all my fun out of corners instead of on the streights :)

Well I have just completed 230km on my new tyres, And I must say, the scrub in process is quite a journey! hehe

They started off fairly slippery, poor on the brakes. By the time I got to SH22 after nice scenic twisty route I took I was getting it over to where I was on my old pair and they are really starting to shine now :) Unlike my last pair, the Pilot Powers seam to produce a more stable exit under power, and even into corners once they had gone around the block a few times seam to stick alot better than my dunlops already.

They are a funny ol tyre, my bike now rolls into the corners as apposed to drops into them :) And the ride overall on the streights is alot smoother and noticeable at higher pace compair to my Dunlops I had on previous.

I also notice that my gearing is taller... I think that is the extra tread I now have LOL. So for what I want I am happy with em so far :)

The wear test is next :), still got my chicken strips on my entire front wheel tyre though hehe. Summary : Kick ass!

I will post the route, it's acually quite the nice mix of tight arse downhill and uphill twisty, with very nice views. The road was very good about %90 of the way. Little bit of gravel but to be honest, I only noticed it changed to gravel once I tried to slow down because wanted to read a sign! LOL 80-100km stuff and probably only 8km of it ?

Will turn it into a laxed ride for another day like today where there is cloud cover and not soo hot.

Yup  the PO's are a little softer in the middle than the PP 2CT but a shit load softer on the sides = lots of fun in the corners!

Maybe I am a bit ham-fisted with my braking and throttle control but my second set of PP 2CT's got a bit squirmy at times, so I thought I would give the Ones a go. I luv em  but we'll see how far I get on a set. They were virtually the same price as PP's too!

glad to see you have tyres now no excuse for not getting out, the reason your bike now rolls into corners is because every different make of tyre has a different profile so you will get different characteristics with each tyre.

glad to see you have tyres now no excuse for not getting out, the reason your bike now rolls into corners is because every different make of tyre has a different profile so you will get different characteristics with each tyre.
the route looks interesting.

Hachet mate, how ya been? You get that helmet changed yet?

Agree about the tyre shape. I'm not a pirelli man anymore but a michy. Nicer profile in my opinion. The new ride will get swapped out straight away for 2cts. They even go reasonably well off road (jumping sux though).

Yeah.. and try not to let the rear wheel go over the top of the front wheel unless you get a bit more air to complete the manouver.. and on that point i don't know many people on motorcycles that land a forward flip on their wheels, Bit more practice you might be the first :niceone:

yours was the xr-1000 wasn't it? What didn't you like about it? I tried on a xr1100 and it was comfy, but apparently they're a big difference. I'm gonna try on a 1000 to see the difference.

the xr1000 that i got does not fit as well as i thought it did at the time i bought it, but in saying that they are quiet and have good all round vision. i made a costly mistake when i got it, i should have stuck with the arai tried and tested well hopefully get some cash back when i sell it.
how is your situation going hows the healing coming on, whats happening with the bike insurance etc. I saw eric coming out of hamiltom m/cycles last week, could be the 2010 675 on the cards.

Yeah always the way really. When you love something karma gets pissed off at you for play with the other side.

As for me, mashed up hand which no ones knows what to do with, but a new toy arrives in Feb. Trying to at least sort out gear so when I can swing the leg over a bike I can work out what I can or can't do.

Hopefully the rides don't bloody stop as soon as I get the bike. I need to get some time in riding before the little one arrives (in Feb also - should be a good month :D)

There's been a few rides thru there - I don't know how many of you remember Wednesday night rides (instead of the pub), a group of us went up past the power station and out to 22 on that route - it was dark and bit wet, that road gets very slippery, had a few riders worried.

Came back the same route with Honda club once, a dick 2 up on an old CBR1000 over took and ended up on the grass, he almost came off.

But a good road

Went the back RD to Naguhawah-he-a? then back road to Huntly, Heatherington to SH22, then to Wainaro back road to Raglan, then divi on the way back.

Nice ride:scooter:

Tinsel is still on the bike!! LOL

We should be brooming the road first and blocking car access, sealing up colvits and putting hay bails on the outsides of the corners as limiting our bikes to 90km/hr and only going out in the dry.

Is a quite moment better than a quiet moment before riding?? Or do you mean its quite a moment that you arr riding. nice vid, funny how when you focus on the road at the bottom of the screen it looks like all the stones are flying??

Lol nah before :) The camera picked up the road surface a bit too well and managed to focus itself on the little stones at times LOL, it was mounted on my frame slider for added protection to the bike :)

I'm in for next weekend. Wires come out next week apparently so I'll be able to wrap my finger around the grip :) maybe not since I don't think it's gonna be bending for at least a week after. Crap, and I need a helmet...time to chase insurance.

Well, I was thinking it. Was thinking I could have bicycled over but I was told I wasn't allowed to pedal on a bike only an excer-cycle. What's the bloody difference?!

I shall see how the lady feels.

Where were you?? Good turn out last night, good to see Quasi along as well!!. Pity about the Xmas NY break putting a stop on the burger deal, will check if its back on next week and let you all know. Calendar entry is up for Kawhia ride on Sunday but typically the weather looks a bit dodgey when we all want to ride. never mind we can make a call on the day and see what its like and whose keen!!

Exactly! Pop down for brekky on Sunday at least Wysper if you can't do that ride.

I've been holding out for some hash browns for about 2 months now. I'm getting the shakes. I might even be able to cut up my own food (wires coming out Thursday)!

Question re Motowhere - which I know lots of us use.

Is there a quick way to delete multiple points? Sometimes the stupid map assumes you have used a different route than you actually have and it fills in the wrong roads. Individually deleting all the points it has put in can take about three weeks. I'd like to be able to just "undo" the last step...but I can't seem to find any way to do so.

Any ideas anyone?

Ta.
