This Sundays Weather as of 5:49pm - 22/07/2009 - Today, Predicted for 12pm Mid day

The Yellow stuff is piss in the sky :) The little F's are the wind speed and direction, The more it looks like an E the worst it is, The more it looks like an L the better it is.

That green shit in the centre is New Zealand. The green to the left of the picture is Aussie, but its a fruad, it should be brown, not green.

I should be a weather reporter..

And my Crystal ball says on the 2nd of August it is going to be fine.

And since I am a slacker and not shown up at the pub tonight (That would make about the 4th pub night I have missed this year) can someone post the route ? :)

For this ride I might strap my camera point out the back of my bike pointing at you Murray :)

You've put it in the social group calendar so its only available for people who are part of the social group.

For people who haven't met the group:

August 2nd

Laxed out Riders (new rider friendly group) has joined with the Hamilton Ulysses group to go on a joint ride.

2nd August we are doing a combined ride with Ulysses to some place called Kaiaua (just up past Miranda hot springs) and evidently has the best fish & Chip shop in the Nth Island. So pencil that date in and weather permitting lets all try and get out for this ride. The Ulysses guys are pretty keen on it so please make an effort to join this ride. $10 full buffet breakfast available from 9.00 am onwards. PM me if you don't know where the breakfast is!!

This is the message from Jim from the Ulysses group

This will be a pottle througn lots of interesting back roads. Max speed 110 to 120 kms. Some of us from Ulysses will come for breakfast at the hotel on the Sunday morning. Otherwise start is at Rototuna BP at 10.30 am Assemble at 10.20 with a full tank of gas and an empty bladder.
I am the Ulysses runns leader for the day. On the way home I may opt for an interesting diversion through Bombay. The promise is that on the way home we will not touch State Highway 1 until Ngaruawahia.
cheers
Jim

Did 65+ K on my old 98 model, the newer 03 model at this point in time met my price point, got a hyperpro springs kit in the front end to firm it up a bit + some other stuff that made it hard to go past it for the $$ I paid. Love the V twin too. Already can feel a better ride in it than the old girl, looking forward to getting some tarmac under its wheels ..........soon. :ride:

Most huggers are black regardless of bike colour , the red hugger does stand out a bit, but it does grow on you. Bike has a hyperpro springs kit which firms front end & appears to improve handling. Carby kit, DNA air filter & scorpian pipes have sharpened throttle response a lot as well. Sounds pretty mean too. Overall pretty stoked with it :niceone:

Anyhow a few of us that are working or unable to do the Blue Lake run felt like its a good idea to do a Sunday afternoon coffee run so we are leaving the Hotel for Raggers at about 1.30 having a coffee or 2 there and getting back to the Rapa bout 4ish to watch the Warriors. Anyone interested see C U this avo!!

It had snapped on the exhaust bracket ?, Common for those :) I have pictures on how to fix :)

PM me your E-mail I will send them through

Air filter, humm newmans for that.

And as for more HP, you can change the base gasket for a smaller one, but you will not get too much more HP out of that barrel. You can get after market barrels, head and exhaust, it does make a a difference by a small amount but no by much.

You can try installing tighter clutch springs, the flywheel will engage closer to the powerband then, that does help. Also if you do not want speed you could change the sprocket back to factory, They probably have a 7 tooth on there.

PM me, or post in the Minimoto :)

Yeah man i did quite enjoy the french pass too, although i got a couple of frights on those "oh by the way there's a left hand corner RIGHT HERE - immediately loose 30km/h and lean like buggery" moments.

Well done working on your confidence and working with your bike :)

Hehe cheers dude :)

I only had one moment on the 6 when I felt a bit uncomfortable and that was in Pyes pa on an off camber right hander 45k corner, On the 250 you could just chuck it around.. the R6... like you posted earlier there is alot more rotational mass, You really do notice it in situations like that..

Just looked where I wanted to go and did not button off.. did the trick. :)

I know french pass fairly well and take it easy going on the downhill parts :), Going the other direction is a bit quicker as it is uphill alot more :)

The little road out of french pass (The one that links Mobil and cuts out Karapero is a good road) that can have a couple of good surprises too, Again that one is better ran in the other direction :) There is only two corners that you will go, Oh s#%t on! and they are downhill's again going into 25-35k bends (Bumpy under breaking).

Yeah I have a problem with rotational mass too. However in my case it is going to take some pushups and ab crunches :shit:

Hehe I must have missed it :P

Hope I was not holding many up. I did turn around to look for Alexis coming over the Mamaku's when I noticed she had not cought up, She had stopped to talk to James and Genna in the truck and I did not realise the tailer was not tailing.

I think for Routes like Scotts next time, because I know it quite well, just slow down at the intersections, wait for me to pass, give me about 40 seconds then you guys can cream past me like you did before. I do not mind it and trust all your ability around me not to pass all stupid.

That way I get to see a few lines for a minute as you guys slowly pull away because I am on riding my own ride pace. I then turn back into the tailer and thats cool, and the stops are shorter and the ride keeps flowing :)

Just a thought, But it would take a quick "Hey everybody, do you know the route from here to B", quick show of hands.. if the tailer does for sure and completely positive then not a problem

Because I really like riding with you fastys for the experience, and whilst I do not want to ride at the quicker pace for most of the time I do pickup things by watching the way you guys ride for a short breif moment as you pass me etc.., I am sure I can keep up! but I just don't want to hehe it is too easy for my comfort to be pushed if I get a small scare around a corner.. and the problem I have is after the day. After the bikes in the shed, I am thinking to myself! Damn, I want to do that better! and the little "Oh" Crap moments if their are too many, the rides a right off and I call it bad experience.

On the otherhand, I am now happy to be a tailer :) even if I have to slow my ride down to give the 250 riders a bit of lead for me to come up and catch em down again.

Just ride to enjoy dude and find your way. If the pace that you find comfortable happens to be up near the front, the middle or the back then so be it.

Something i have found on the road is that no one's lines are the same, i wouldn't follow anyone's lines unless its a track day and someone's showing me the ropes.

If you want someone to follow or lead you and give you some advice then just ask them.

Agree with this. I have a tenancy to ride quite shallow lines every now and then (which is pretty bad for safety). I get away with it most of the time because I'm within my limits. But when I think about lines I take quite a late apex only because I like dropping the bike in.

I tried copying other people's styles and lines and I worked out you can only take little pieces of what you think looks good and add them to your own. If it feels good, it's your thing. Riding, i.e. style and lines, is totally a personal thing. But you can get ideas from others. Just don't be trying to copy exactly.

I agree here too. Koz and I would take very different lines round the same corner 9 times out of 10 probably.

Neither would be right or wrong (well sometimes they would), but our different riding styles and bikes etc make for different cornering.

For me, I like to be smoooooth, doesn't always work that way... still fall into the odd bad habit, but it is fun working on them.

Experienced or inexperienced we ride at our own pace and risk.

Pye's Par had quite well signposted areas of road works and the sun was high in the sky when we went through there.

Shit happens dude and it really sucks when it does.

Nothing impressive about that dude. Gravel, Snow, riding through a lake.. one rides to the conditions and within your ability.

It can not be stressed enough that the rides are about "Riding your own ride" with great company and great roads. (Well Pyes pa was not that impressive hehe but that was only 20-30km of the total ride, that being around 350km)

On rides quite often the roads get bad, even in summer you have bled tar and pooling, they are like slipping on ice!

Can't be arsed with the rep feature..

It is just great to see Genna & Josh walk away from it, with now a bit more experience under their belts. It was great to see the support of all those in the group.

Get back on the road and enjoy it as soon as possible, let me know when you get that other bike of yours assembled and we will go for an easy short ride somewhere. I ride like a nanna now anyways (With the option of going, pretty flaming fast!), Genna knows, she was following me most of the ride.

Take care

Maybe I'm just angry because I now have no ride, no prospects of having one in the near future, and therefore no escape from the daily grind which is my life. Still... it is totally against human instinct to voluntarily be within a group and not succumb to the tendancy to conform. The whole idea of "Ride your own ride" is unrealistic. It seems to be more of a condition of entry and an absolution from responsibility than a safety mechanism. A bunch of males on nothing smaller than 600 let a couple of chicks, one on a 250 and one on a 150 for a 350km loop involving some of the dodgiest sections of road in the North Island... Why? It stinks of dick-thinking. How many on that ride actually have girlfriends, or even female friends? Be honest... it would make a significant statistic wouldn't it? If not dick-thinking, then could it have been for the girls' benefit, so they can learn from the pros? Can't be... because everyone would be riding thier own ride! Personally, when we have any new or relatively inexperienced riders in our group, we all take the oportunity to ride at thier pace and to consolodate some of our skills which we may not have performed at legal or even safe speeds for a while, and there sure as shit is no "Ride your own ride" mentality. We ride OUR ride, and that is governed by the competence of the newest or least experienced and if we don't feel like going slow, we just don't invite the snails.

mister.koz

Leyton and Eric were cruzing around the back and as leyton said he's taking it real easy lately. Yes there are a few faster people in the group but there's normally a few 250 riders, learners and people who just take it easy.

Riding your own ride is quite realistic, its a message thats echoed constantly in our threads and its the whole reason this group does well and has allot of regular riders. I've done more than 20,000km doing exactly that.

We have nothing to prove. It wasn't all that long ago that i was the dude right at the back, all nervous and freaking out on every corner on Pye's Par (until i slowed down).

As far as i know most of the guys in the group have girlfriends or wives, especially the front 5 on sunday. And as for showing off, even an experienced rider on a 250 wouldn't see a rider on a 1000cc enough for them to show off???

You got the wrong tree dude.

Fair call being a bit pissed, I heard about roughly what happened. Wasn't on the ride myself so can't go into specifics.

Was this the ride that was planned for a little bit and met at Jack's? Or was this the last minute ride to Raglan? There was a choice between two different rides unless the longer one was changed from the planned route dramatically.

When I was fresh on my 250 I wouldn't have contemplated going on a 350km haul. I was shattered the corner marathon I did a while a go which was about 350km.

Yes, some people feel pressured into keeping up, it is ultimately their decision. Can't imagine the guys being any real pressure on anyone. The last time I rode in the big group was doing a Waihi type loop. I ran up the front, was having a shitter, so dropped back to RIGHT at the back to cruise with them for a while. I was on the Daytona and it didn't break 90km/h. I rode my own ride and a few times I've found myself riding alone because I am riding as I want.

Depending on who was in the group, I would have thought someone would have dropped back to cruise with those that are found riding by themselves. This is how I've seen it when I've ridden in the group. Then, as you said, it becomes THEIR ride with the faster guys doing their thing.

But I wasn't there and could have been different. Just depends on what ride was choosen.

Ah well, I may be barking at the tree partially out of anger and frustration, so for that I apologise. I do understand where you're coming from in terms of wanting to go out riding and make all-comers welcome, and maybe as a parent myself I have a larger and probably excessive sense of responsibility toward people of lesser experience (which is pretty much all being a parent is!). On the same token, as an experienced rider with over 20,000km under your belt and superbike in your crotch, with inexperienced riders with limited Km's under thier belts and 250cc, YOU are the parent. If organising a ride was a party and you were the host, would you let someone drink and drive? Would you let a mate sleep in the vege garden? Would you let a chick get hammered and lured away by some dodgey fuck? Would you let teens get smashed? I hope not... I would hope you'd be as a responsible host with a party as a ride. "Party your own party"??? P.S If I'm missing something here about exactly what happened, feel free to PM with your version, because I'm dead-set of getting MSCHVS back on wheels one day, but not before doing everything I can to stop the same mistake happening again.

Thats a really good point when using the party analogy, i honestly didn't think of it that way. Ordinarily we have at least 3 learners/250's riding at the back and Murray doing his cruize thing at tail end charley.

I did ask leyton to stick with the girls after i realized that they were very new riders (because i know he's taking it really easy lately) and as far as i know eric was there too, i trust both of them more than 99% of people around new riders, the are balanced and consistent riders without the need for showing off or thrill-seeking (especially with an audience).

Will PM you.

As i was one of these apparantly dick thinking guys on this ride i can let you know that at least 7 of the guys are either married for some time or have long term partners, so i think that your comment is out of place. we all ride how we want to ride some are faster than others we are all responsible riders and we all ride responsibly around each other. We do not push people into riding beyond there limits as it makes the whole dynamics of the people who ride dangerous. personally i did not see the incident so therefore can not comment on the situation. but laying the blame at other peoples feet is a little unfair.

Ok the "dick thinking" comment was a little misdirected. I was implying that the person or people inviting/allowing a couple of inexperienced chicks on an otherwise all-experienced, all-male ride may have motives not entirely derived from a Neurological source. Considering there was no enquiry in PM or TXT as to the experience or skill level of the girls prior to the ride whatsoever, it's gotta make you think. Anyway, this is much as a post-fuck-up summary of what lessons are there for the taking as it is a vent (which by the way, has been therapetic and thanks heaps for tolerating it). I'm not pointing blame in it's entirety on any of the riders or organisers. As far as I'm concerned, the ultimate blame is fairly and squarely on the rider who thought she could run before she could walk and the big fat slice of humble-pie she's presently digesting will I'm sure go along way toward avoiding the same fuck-up in the future. As far as the poor bastard with the CBR who went out for a ride with some mates and went home with the same headache and heartache I currently have, I hope what I've said here will go along way to ensuring the organisers of his future rides don't invite inexperienced chicks to ride 350km loops on dodgey roads to give him something to avoid hitting.

On another note i think its good to mention that "organisers" is possibly an exaggeration in terms :)

I started and named the group "The laxed out riders", the title has nothing to do with speed or roads etc its entirely about attitude. We might as well be called "the completely relaxed, unorganised riders who catch up as regularly as we can be arsed" - LOR is shorter.

Organisation is as follows:
Someone asks where we are going this week
Someone makes suggestions
Someone eventually gets around to saying "lets do this one"
That person (normally me) puts it up in a calendar on here
Everyone meets and goes for a ride.
Someone drifts out in front, everyone follows
Front riders stop at confusing locations so the back pack doesn't get lost
People sling shit and take the piss at breaks

We don't do checks of licenses or insurance or anything like that because we are just a group of mates who come together for beer, burgers and biking (not all at once). Because everyone gets so much out of it and most are on the KB forums we post our rides and routes so we can share in our fun activity.

Normally we have a couple of 250 riders and a tail end charlie because murray likes to cruize, not because we are organised. Newer riders are encouraged to take it easy and often people will volunteer to ride close to them if they feel they want to.

A few of us have told people off for riding beyond their ability but only people that have done something dangerous in their view.

The truth of it is that we are not charging money, we are not driving instructors, we are not authorities, we are a group of mates who get along fairly well (most of the time) who like to share our love of riding. We don't encourage racing of any kind.

Most of the people (i am excluding myself) who are in the front pack have been riding for a very long time so the last thing they want is someone messing up their laxed out ride by trying to race them.

SHIT looks like big weekend...

I've lost a bike the same way, trying to keep up with big boys...all i can say is enjoy your motorbike and ask for advice from senior riders rather than trying to keep up for yourself. Based on that last post I'm sure there's someone who's relaxed enough to chill at the back and teach the juniors. I'm still on a junior bike anyway so one more to add to the group...assuming i'm ever going to make it to one of these rides...

Keen as for Sunday, just have to nag at Honda to fix my bike up and get it back to me

Taking a couple of learners down an unfamiliar road which is closed for roadworks during the week and runs predominantly perpendicular to the suns' trajectory in the middle of winter before noon is not so smooth. There are other ways of impressing the ladies. Hit me with some red-rep bitches.

I noticed this on Mschvs profile from Murray

I note you are on Blue lake run 2day. Looking at the group going they are generally the faster riders and i don't think there is a 250 amongst them. Come next week and it will be more indicative of the group as a whole.

Hope you enjoy your ride if you go today!!

For the people concerned and before this thread descends into chaos and things get said in the heat of the moment, can we please keep comms about this in PM's please.

Sorry Koz, I know you said PM for this.... but

I was under the impression the LAXED OUT RIDE was the one leaving from Kingsgate, the other ride was a different kettle of fish.

I wasn't there for either of them, so perhaps I should just keep out of it.
But I know Koz pretty well, and I am damn sure he would do his best to make sure everyone was ok and enjoying themselves.

He is right, these are rides that thrown together by some like minded folks. I can't ride someone elses ride, anymore than they can ride mine.

I took a break from the rides cos my head was in the wrong place. I was feeling like I was holding the fast guys up and I needed to keep up. (This was complete bollocks incidentally), so a few months off to clear my head and get back to my ride and it is all good. I still don't do the long rides - family commitments, but I know that we are all out to have fun. And if the quick guys wait a few minutes at the next intersection they don't care.

If they want a fast run with no waiting.. they do a different ride.

It is a good bunch of riders here, guys and gals. It would be a shame to ruin the group with mudslinging and a blame fest.

At the end of the day, we have to step up to the plate and take some personal responsibility for our own rides. Sure, keep an eye out for your mates and the new riders, but we have all chosen to be on the the ride.

I am sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick here, I know I don't have the facts of what happened, or really even what is being talked about.
To me it looks like a mate is being attacked over something that he has no real control over and that ain't right.

Murray had thrown togeather a short ride for those who had to work in the morning at short notice so the wonderfull day was not wasted.

I asked around myself what the ride was.. I forgot that we use the calander still! its been soo long hehe!! So yeah, rides get posted up on the Calender. Unless it's at short notice in Murrays case who I am sure was busting for a ride with mates. Anyways, I cant speak for him. Sorry Murray hehe

Of course you presume we knew that? And we had well cleared the road works when she came off. In fact her coming off had nothing to do with road works, and you know that.

Sun? WTF are on about? I didn't have the sun in my eyes at any stage over there? It was mid day.

.. it is totally against human instinct to voluntarily be within a group and not succumb to the tendancy to conform. The whole idea of "Ride your own ride" is unrealistic. It seems to be more of a condition of entry and an absolution from responsibility than a safety mechanism.
I agree - that's been argued to death on kiwibiker, most just want to put their heads in the sand and absolve themselves of blame

A bunch of males on nothing smaller than 600 let a couple of chicks, one on a 250 and one on a 150 for a 350km loop involving some of the dodgiest sections of road in the North Island... Why?
If you think that's the dodgiest road in the North Island, then you haven't been around much.
Be realistic though - it was an open invite, we're not babysitters or some kind of club, who's got the right to tell someone to go home if they turn up for a ride??
That would be like me saying to you; why did you let your un-licensed girlfriend borrow your new un-insured motor bike and go for a ride that was clearly posted as going thru Pyes Pa? Where's your responsibility?
Or did you have as much say in it as we did

How many on that ride actually have girlfriends, or even female friends? Be honest...
Your obviously so far up your self thinking we must be a bunch of rejects and retards who can't get girlfriends?

Personally, when we have any new or relatively inexperienced riders in our group, we all take the oportunity to ride at thier pace and to consolodate some of our skills which we may not have performed at legal or even safe speeds for a while, and there sure as shit is no "Ride your own ride" mentality. And you think this ride was any different ?
Coming from a person who doesn't even have a bike license?
Who wasn't there?

There were some 'faster riders' (not that fast though) but there were a bunch of slower riders including the one who came off, and from what I could tell they were taking it pretty casually - speed was certainly not a factor in coming off. She came off on a sealed downward tight corner with some corrugations on it, doing no more than about 70 kl/hr, hitting an oncoming vehicle that was slightly infringing on her lane. Yet she didn't even seem to get a scratch on her! Speed certainly wasn't a factor, she wasn't following anyone at the time, or trying to keep up, so that wasn't a factor, no sun in her eyes, so that wasn't a factor.

Inexperience perhaps

Shit happens

Your pissed because your bike got wasted - who let her jump on an uninsured bike with no license ? not us.

Deal with it, shove you finger up your own arse instead of pointing it at any of us

I vote for the routes we haven't done. Do some recon work before summer hits. Going on what road conditions were like last year, I'm thinking I'm gonna be hammering the bike in Spring and not full-on Summer. Riding molten tar sucks so I'm gonna be getting in my money's worth early.

Key notes:

-5km of gravel Rd
-mostly technical roads with ALOT of corners
-some Spectacular views
-petrol is rare on the route.. full when starting and a petrol station at the halfway point
- i'd rate it over the coro loop but then i'm just a freak
- in winter time there is alot of grit on these routes

I'm liking that one dude!

If this is the one we did that day, I can vouch for it. Pretty much all corners, none of this straight bull shit and being some remote adds a bit more spice to it. The gravel is fine and I cruised it at 60km/h easy.

If it's not the one I'm thinking of...forget what I said.

As for suggesting a route...I don't know back roads so I'm pretty useless.

This is a great road , did it two summers ago two up on the trusty VTR. Would be a starter again. The side trip to Waikawau beach worth a visit as well BUT dont try and ride through the tunnel at the end that goes to the beach ......nearly a bad move on my part

A bit of a different pace to rest of the ride, and 22 was very dirty - a lot more shit and crap than normal all over it. Awesome fun.

I might be on this ride though. Hold me back...I'm on a role - 2 weeks in a row.

You think thats a shock.. I might actually make a pub night this week! Will be my first ever.

So i was thinking maybe a shorter ride for next weekend... anybody up for this ride or any suggestions on any other ride ?

It was probably one of the best purchases for my personal comfort, and I think it improved my riding as well. Pillions have also commented on the added comfort.
Mac from Tauranga is a top bloke - and does an awesome seat. and the bike looks better as well.

No worrys dude :) glad you enjoyed it, you were not holding anyone up so bring your Hyosung out again!, I certainly don't mind what speed anyone rides at as long as they are riding comfortably within there limits and keeping decent following distances. Not trying to play catchups or anything to prove etc..

As for pillioning!! WHY?? hehe

I am probably missing the next few rides, will see how the funds shape up. But I would say next weekend Murray and Trina are due for a ride as well as Millan and Donna. They are consistant riders and great company to ride with. So next time you may find yourself riding in proximity to around 3-5 riders again.

Nice Hyo!! I thought about getting a yellow one when I was deciding on my Hyobag, I choose red :P It was on special too, Great bikes! They are quite forgiving on the road and teach counterstear very well due to there size, yet you can throw them around if you need too. Cant said much for the brakes... but pft.. brakes are over rated and only slow you down.

You can have a look here :

Or you can contact *Finds the info *

John Turkington who is the Ulysses Co-Ordinator on 0274 850 645, Or checkout their Website at "ulysses.org.nz"

They offer free mentoring, just give em a fuel gift card as thanks :) It is well worth it!

They love it because it is also another good excause to get out and ride :P And any excause is great!. Going for Coffee gets a bit overused :P

Slow riding;
Emergancy braking;

You proabably did see us - or at least you would have heard Milan. 4 of us went for a wee pottle Te Awamutu, Pirongia Cambridge. Didnt ask Leyton if he wanted to come because he might have gt some spots on his bike and we didnt really decide to have a pootle until after lunchtime.

Is this thread gonna get back on to some kind of useful topic any time soon!

Too much wanking going on - me thinks :tugger:

We could discuss something relevant like;
Where's the best place to get your bike tuned in Hamilton?
where would you get braided brake lines from in Hamilton?
Why does Insomnia wear a red baron hat?
Do you think we should ban Ian from riding his Blatt Blatt within half a kilometer from any of us, so he doesn't damage our ear drums?
Is it wrong to run over stupid little fluffy white dogs?

Seew willie at speedtech or Hamilton motorcycles for servicing - they are both good for servicing and would know about who to goto regarding tuning.
www.powersport.co.nz - for new braided lines/clearskins, i think speedtech have some 2nd hand ones at the mo for a good price
Insomnia is actually the red baron in disguise - shhh secret squirrel
Ian's bike aint that loud, are you following too close hehe
Fluffy dogs are annoying but then can get wedged between your wheel, chain and swingarm - i would avoid them and just clock them with your boot/knee/elbow while passing

Whanga road was greasy, messy and dirty and filled with odd european cars driving like idiots... Some dude in a pergeot took it personally when i passwed him... glad i took the car!

Weather was pretty good, roads were good. Stopped at "The Creamery" for a bite to eat and coffee. Started raining once in cambridge and trip back to hams was not that pleasent. I need a new front tyre now. Noticed a gash that you can fold back, in Cambidge. Thought it was feeling a bit strange on the uneven roads between Tea and Cambridge.,

Na actually saw you guys from our house (well the parents anyway). We were trying to birth a calf. Saw a few of ya that looked familiar then noticed the unmistakable Honda bringing up the rear.

Just me donna, Trina and Milan. We did the restricted course run that Trina went on 2 weeks ago so Donna can see what she has to do and where she has to go to get rid of that L plate and then just decided to go for a ride.
