Brooke and I were blasting around in "her" new toy that her Daddy brought the family. Bloody fun those supercharged mini's...even more fun with a roll cage ;)
I had to have a laugh when I got home. The old man asked me if it was you that was riding around this area with a big swag of bikes. I told him it was the ride I had already mentioned to him. He said he was thinking about joining in but kept getting distracted and forgetting. Bloody old buggers! Mum was no better.
The good news is I got a WOF on Sonic II last week so now I just need get the rego, then palm off the kids. I'm bloody well going to make it my mission to get both the parents and Brooke on a ride this summer.

Last night at the clubrooms (another good turnout) Shona expressed interest in getting out on the bike this weekend so Trina, Shona and I will be heading up to the pink ribbon ride - weather permitting. Leaving Kingsgate hotel carpark 8.00 am so we have plenty of time to get there (find the place) and have a look at hopefully the large number of bikes and do our bit.
Ideally we head back early enough to spend the afternoon at the clubrooms to watch the "great race"
No calendar entry but if you want us to wait for you let us know your coming

Had a good time taking part in the Pink Ribbon Charity Ride in Auckland today. Was good to be out on the bikes - not as windy as thought it might be. Got a little wet on the way up at Bombay, but were blow dried by the time we got to the Auckland Netball Centre and was warm and sunny on the 20km ride to Western Springs. Thanks to Murray and Trina, Phil and Glenn for your company - special thanks to Phil for literally picking me up at the Bombay gas station when KAKES decided to lay down ... again

Had a good time taking part in the Pink Ribbon Charity Ride in Auckland.
We arrived at 9.50 ish and already heaps of bikes there and they kept on rolling in - official count was 410 bikes and many had pillions. Cool ride through St Helliers and along the water front, the viaduct and up hobson street to K road then onto Western springs for speeches etc - Raised nearly $8k for the cause.
All lights were fixed on green throughout and every zebra crossing had someone in pink to stop people wandering onto the roads. A few cars sneaked in here and there but nothing major. Amazing sight seeing bikes all the way around the waterfront!!
Congrats to the organising committee and thanks to the police - an exceptional job done by all
2nd Sunday in October next year - a definite must go ride!!!

Doh! If you found an Irish pub you are way off course. Depending on the end of town, you could be a hop skip and a jump from some real good beer ;)
I love how the irish pub down my end of town (with all the other pubs) looks as old and dark as the one that has been around for yonks!
I guess it's a bit late now for advice :/ Better luck next time? Or are you in town for a bit?

I am stuck out at Huntly this week for work, other wise I'd be there. I am in town tonight for a work dinner, but plan on sneaking off for a quite one when I can at House on Hood (st). If you are looking for somewhere you can get a nice pint and some fancyish food, I can recommend the Good George on Sommerset street. Or just go for a pint, great beer!

Back from a 3-day ride.
Day one was Hamilton - Pirongia - Te Kuiti - Taumaranui - National Park - Waiouru - Feilding - Waipukurau - Maraukakaho. It only really started raining around Taumaranui, but there was a dry patch at the north end of SH54 - that's a fun little bit of road, eh? Conditions from Feilding on ranged from wet and windy to incredibly wet and windy. I learned why not to tuck your jacket cuffs into your gloves. A car slid off the road but nothing too serious. The bike *hummed*.
Day two, Hastings - Napier - Taupo - Rotorua - Ngongotaha - Pyes Pa - Tauranga. Napier had the heaviest rain I have ever ridden through - I would have stopped but it was an expressway and I had serious doubts the driver behind me could even see me. Encountered another accident, this time arriving as car with considerable damage to the front departed at speed and another (presumably less-guilty) party decided that hazard lights made it ok to pull a U-turn without worrying about traffic coming around the corner. Fortunately my pessimistic outlook meant I was not only able to straighten up and come to a near-stop in the shallow stream mislabelled as a "road" in Google maps (Michelin, I want to have your babies) and even managed to sound a warning toot instead of thumbing the indicator cancel as I usually do. Conditions ranged from torrential to merely damp, improving considerably from Taupo on. I learned that there are different degrees of "wet road" and even got pretty used to them. Rattled around Tauranga and up the coast for a little bit.
Day three was basically just straight home. Great to catch up with family and old friends and have some fun on the bike. :niceone:

Which do you dislike more : rain or wind?
I usually dislike wind more (as a daily commuter, I'm kinda used to rain). On this trip the wind was strong but reasonably steady and the debris had already blown away. The wash from oncoming big trucks was worse.
The rain was mostly just uncomfortable (gloves and boots filled up) but from a safety aspect I was most conscious of the reduced visibility. A new Pilot Road 3 on the back last week ... wow ... crazy-good traction in the wet.
Overall, I think the rain made the trip less enjoyable.

I'm the same with that wind rain commuting part.
Wind really scares the shit out of me. I'll happily be doing 50-70 in a 100 if its sideways wind. Ive often been tempted to stop and just hide behind my bike.

What a weekend!! 100+ Mustangs staying with us at work - a couple of long days and looking forward to a beer sometime after 7.30 tonight.
Since tomorrow is the only day off over this long weekend me and trina and our chef on his wee 150 think a cruise (I mean cruise) out to Raglan tomorrow morning for coffee is in order. Leaving the Kingsgate Hotel carpark at 10.30ish
If you feel the need please feel free to join us, forecast looks OK maybe a shower but not much to worry about.
Might see Trina in her new leathers:banana::banana:

Please remind me not to ride with you.
3 or 4 years ago I was Rider in charge for a Ulysses ride out of Hamilton. One of our members had a very smooth back tyre. It was a fine day so I said nothing. On the way home his wife rode pillion with someone else while he nursed his bike home with the canvass showing on the rear. It is very reasonable on a group ride to ask for a minimum standard of Registration a Warrant of Fitness and a current licence for the class of bike you are riding. On a group ride if one bike goes down others could be taken out as well.

Agreed if I saw something inherently dangerious or just unnoticed like a bald tyre/real loose chain I'd be sure to mention it but not in a overbearing way.
Certainly would not inspect licenses or look for registration/wofs as that would certainly appear overbearing/dictatorial.

It swings both ways.... you may not have a warrant but the bike is safe as houses or you may have a warrant that is still current but your tires are now bald (I did 10,000 k's between last warrants) and not safe.... but it meets the std of a current warrant and Reg
A social ride with a group of people that are just going the same way is all most of the rides are.... Each bike rides to his skill set and to his equipment level....
If you slate people who's warrant has expired but the bike is still well maintained but then let a current WOF through that has not been maintained well is it a safer group of riders? I think not.
If someone has not got the coin to Reg his bike and is willing to take the risk of a ticket but the bike is well maintained is he being unsafe?

If you're worried about personal safety, and who isn't, the best strategy surely is to give those you don't know some distance until you get a handle on their ability to handle the bike in whatever shape its in. Is there anything else you need to worry about really? (road conditions aside)

It is a great ride up through there.... just keep an eye out for stock, tractors etc as it is Rural, Some use it as a race track and suffer the consequences. I love the road and all its bumps, dips, and cracks in the road...adds to the experience :D
I have other rides to attend that weekend.

Please explain to me how having a rego makes a bike any safer?
I remember going on a ride with you and I mentioned my rego was out by 1 day. You and your wife both shot daggers at me and said that if you had known that beforehand I wouldn't have been allowed to come on the ride
There have been all sorts of dickheads out on the laxed out rides it is easy to stay clear of them on the road.
I actually don't recall that conversation but she would have reacted more than me. Personally "don't now how to shoot daggers" my ancestors would have carried "DirKs" but personally I cannot stand the sight of blood. A raised eyebrow would have been more likely. I also never check registrations or warrants. I would now send someone home if the tyre was noticeably worn or for lack of gear e.g. no jacket or bare legs and jandels or even 'German Helmets"

Agreed if I saw something inherently dangerious or just unnoticed like a bald tyre/real loose chain I'd be sure to mention it but not in a overbearing way.
Certainly would not inspect licenses or look for registration/wofs as that would certainly appear overbearing/dictatorial.
I agree that I wouldn't check licences. I would have an issue if I knew a particular rider was disqualified of suspended. The group I usually ride with has a sign in sheet which includes a warranty that the machine is registered and warranted.

No I am a really big old guy with a very big bike. The group I often ride with ( Ulysses ) wouldn't hesitate to send a rider packing if it was an obvious safety issue and it was our ride. a decision made by the rider in charge would be supported by the rest of the group. Never had to do it in but should have in one instance with a bald tyre.

I am going to do this charity ride on Sunday, not on the scooter but tonight I stole keys to a 250 a couple of houses down. The owner will be at work tomorrow, so I'll whip the bike into my shed and give it a check over.
It has a wof and rego, so far no one's said anything about a hot bike :facepalm: so I guess I'll be okay.

I took it for a ride today after adjusting the chain, tyre pressures etc. Told the owner I'd take it around the block before returning it two houses down. The block took 75k to ride around. The first time in 18 months on a motorbike. After the scooter it was fantastic to sit on a bike again. I rode it like a nana tho. Couldn't believe how fast 100kph seemed.

Jim, we have ridden together more than once.My point is that to imply you are "organising" a ride and are prepared to send riders home for simply not having a reg or warrant does make it the business of the Police and the ACC. Who are desperate to try in court anyone they can tag as "responsible" for organising a ride where someone is hurt / injured.
I've headed up plenty of rides and I'd never allow an unsafe bike to go on one, that goes with saying.
Our Op has clarified and I'm sure has got the point by what he said.

You didn't tell me there was roadworks out them ways slofox! I had a really crappy ride out, my front tyre pressure was really low the cornering was poo, chucked some air in for the trip and WOW what a difference, it actually turns corners, I love those series of tight corners, that passing lane, passing a car mid corner hanging off the side of the bike then to straighten up for the next right hander oh yes!

Na, they're FUCKEN massive! Went for a peddle up there last year or the year before. I thought they were big but when you get up close and personal it's on another level. The track the goes up to the very top passes right beside a few. You really appreciate the size. And it's like being in an airport.

Turned the key, pushed the button, then wouldn't start. Flat battery. Just got it out of the workshop. A re-cored radiator and $400 later. They asked if I'd had trouble starting as it was slow to turn over for them and I said It had been starting fine. They replaced the stator and rectifier only a few months ago so hopefully it's just the battery. Seriously though, I'd think if they noticed it was slow to turn over they'd just put a multi-meter on it to check for something obvious while it's in the workshop for something else? Bit pissed off really. :(

The out-work to get the radiator fixed was only $121.50 The rest of the invoice was two and a half hours labour Remove fairings, remove cam chain tensioner and check cam chain for wear ( Will need doing next year ) , check for coolant leaks, remove radiator and send for repair, refit to bike, add inhibitor ($29.50!!!) and bleed system, start and run bike, refit fairings and test ride.
Add GST, hand personal lubricant to customer and ask to bend over before asking "Cash, or eftpos?"
And now it turns out the regulator they fitted in January is fried and somehow not under warranty after 10,000kms and 11 months. Can't wait for the next thrilling invoice!

I like me Mum's trick, ring up the manufacturer/distributor and ask how long do they expect their products to last if they owned it. Then tell them how long it did last. She got a new F&P washing machine when her 7 year old machine spat the dummy. They said it would last over 10 years and didn't argue at all. She's got a heap of stuff sorted like that.
As for the regulator, under a year is a joke. Hell, if Triumph can replace 4+ year old regulators free of charge, under 12 months is a no brainer. Warranty or no warranty.

The stator they fitted at the same time as the regulator is fried also. They only replaced the stator because it's best practice to do both at the same time?
Grant will sort something but it's still going to cost me even if he passes on the parts at cost. Whites supplied the stator and are denying it's a fault with the stator and blaming the regulator. The regulator was an aftermarket one from some place in Auckland who reckon 11 months and 10,000kms is somehow more than one should expect from their product??? Maybe if it was second hand, that shit might fly but for a brand new product, I don't think so.

I've been through 3 of each over the past 6 or so years, the current regulator is a aftermarket heavy duty option which has (touch wood) lasted the longest.... there is a guy in Huntly that does rewinds but I only got @27000km from it but either way you should be getting more k's from it than 10km

I searched high and low for an artist that I would be happy with, and there are few excellent ones out there. I found Hamish at Black Swallow Tattoo Studio in Powels Rd. He is great artist, he listen to me, offered his suggestions and done a great job so far. He charges $100 per hour or you can book a whole day slot for $500. And his work is awsome.
