Sorry about the quality of the pics from my iPhone.. I had it in HDR mode... it doesn't like action-shots when in HDR mode.
So here's a couple of photos of Mark trying to coerce the gloves off of the pub-dog.

re: stuff from ebay, i get stuff from hong kong and korea. i found so far with the us$ the way it is at the moment, it is well worth considering getting stuff from overseas - even with the shipping cost. caveat emptor, but that applies to most situations.

Those that do attend (10-12 people) generally have a quick discussion on who's riding on the weekend and if most are we plan something. However if most aren't we don't. (as with last week). However there is no set committee or anything and anyone is free to suggest a ride at any stage. Possibly the next planned ride will be to Bikes, BBQ and Blues in Devonport on 01 April. But who knows, someone may suggest something for this weekend on Wednesday or someone else may want to do a ride somewhere. All open to suggestions. Anyone??

i do like kevies c50 but the cc 2high and so is cost of rego - so will be looking at a 400/500 cruzer. need to get the 6F first.
Went to port waikato on sunday (in car though) and went to cc's cafe, thought this would be a nice bike ride one day - not too far and roads ok. Although i took the main roads and dont know of any back roads.

Cold, wet and windy night at the clubrooms last night yet still 2 people turned up on their bikes while the sensible amongst us took the dryer option. No real discussion on a ride for Sunday due to
Saturday Cloudy, with rain developing during the afternoon.Northerlies.
Sunday Morning rain clearing and becoming fine. Winds turning fresh southwest
Anyone interested in doing something please do so and put in thread
Remember 01 Apr for a ride to

If no one has a better idea, how about leaving 10am Sunday and up to Port Waikato. We'll go through Te Kowhai- Ngaruawahia-Waingaro-HW22. Maybe back to Pokeno for greazies for lunch. Back down HW1, left to Te Kauwhata, around the lake and back through Taupri.
That's my plan, unless anyone has a better plan.
Solid rain, We pull the pin, showers, we ride.
I had planned to go down to the superbikes but apparently, they wont allow my beast on the track, so stuff 'em.

Or an alternative could be a shorter run out towards Raglan, hang a right onto HW22, waingaro rd, Rotorawa rd to Huntly and back via the back roads. I'm not sure if you could get 10 riders to commit to a booking.

Cruising home today after our lunch in Raggers, we were taking the long way home via the top of the harbour & Waingaro. Came around a RH corner prolly just a tad over the 100 cliks mark , and about 10 -15 mtrs in front of me was a BLOODY hawk mid flight with road kill in tow at about head height . Only had an instant to stand the bike up get on the picks. The rear locked up (as I clearly remember the sound ) and I was off them again just about as quickly - and WHAMM, head just about ripped off my shoulders with a face full of Hawk. :shit: Have no idea how I negotiated the remainder of the corner but came to a stop on the shoulder of the road with the hawk dead undies full and a very sore neck. My Visor took the full impact as I remember it pushing into my face - didn't break though ???? Have had a few close calls in the past with Hawks & Pukakoe's but this was the first time I have connected - not much fun at all !!!

Good to see that you are posting this information mate. Means you are actually OK.
Got me a Puke! last month, straight through the gap between front wheel and engine, Ah No, got engined didn't it, blood everywhere, cloud of feathers, lucky for me I'd seen it and kept accelerating through it with enough room on the other side to asses damage and keep riding.
This just days after finally getting her back in one Piece.

I was reluctant to join a riding group to better my riding since im getting back into it after 20 years - 'cause i thought they'd be a bunch of speed freaks in which my humble 250 would find it hard going keeping up. but i was wrong. what i wasnt wrong about though was a few bloody colonists on our way back to hamtown via ngaruwahia - right up our rectums (and we were doing the speed limit) then overtaking on the corners while vehicles coming the other way. its no damn wonder some car drivers get fked off with motorcyclists.

stuff that for a good time! I've always been lucky to get them on straights or at the start of corners so I could slow down. Still had one occasion when I felt I had to duck (it was probably 2m above me though).

sil3nt
17th April 2012, 14:34
A car.
But seriously I have scott anti fog cleaner. Works ok but you have to use it on the visor every ride as it comes off easily. Next helmet will have a pinlock insert which should stop all fogging in the visor.

A car.
But seriously I have scott anti fog cleaner. Works ok but you have to use it on the visor every ride as it comes off easily. Next helmet will have a pinlock insert which should stop all fogging in the visor.
Otherwise I ride with the visor cracked open slightly. This only works when it is not raining.
My HJC came with a pinlock fitted. Was not a great success. The top of the pinlock would catch on the rubber seal around the top of the opening. It also let moisture in between the two faces. I will get another one tho' and give it another try. The HJC visor is quite thin and flexible. That may not have helped with sealing.

Being my first season riding in fog, the last two days for the uninitiated were fun. i ride to work @ rotokauri where there is much fog in the morning. so today i got a progrip fog insert. what do the battle hardened hamiltonions use?
3 suggestions (in order of importance):
1. Pinlock
2. Pinlock Insert
3. New helmet with pinlock visor
:)
The reason people carry on about them is they are that good. There are only 2 things I will always have from now on for new helmet/new bike; a pinlock insert and Techspecs.
We tried the antifog spare that sil3nt uses and even though it's stuff all ($15-ish) I would actually put the money towards a pinlock. Dunno about the other inserts, in theory they should work just as well, in theory anyway.
Riding in fog is an asshole though. It's just annoying.

Have had the plastic screws holding the visor on come loose on both mine and my partners helmets. Hers came loose soon after buying it mine just the other week when the right hand side came away completely from the helmet when riding. Cheap helmets but rubbish visor systems.

I just got a new Shark RSX helmet. One thing I noticed that the shield is 3mm thick. No pinlock, but great air vent system that also directs some air onto the visor from the inside thus eliminating fog. i have tested it for last two mornings and even with heavy breathing there was zero fog. It is also by far the lightest (at 1350g) and quietest lid I have ever owned. And this is going from Arai RX7 Corsair (loudest) and AGV XR2 GP spec lid. I have now retired both my Arai and AGV and will only use the new Shark from now on

Sharks are bit weird in a way. When i was choosing my model, I tried few different ones. I found that RSI was more like Shoei shape, and RSX/RSR2 were more like Arai. You need to try a Shark and take it for a spin before you learn to appreciate it. For me was a 30min ride out to WhataWhata and few back roads and I was sold. Like I said, I retired my Arai RX7 Corsair (arguably the best helmet in the world) and went to Shark RSX, and don't have any regrets. You will definately notice the difference on a longer ride. The helmet is so comfortable and so quiet.

On another note, anyone selling their classy 250(ish)? The old lady is kinda looking and hasn't ridden since her early days. Looking at $5k or under. I say kinda because if she see's something that tickles her fancy she'll buy one. I say classy as in cruiser types. Something easy for an old lady (tapping on the door of 60 years young).

Sure like riding that loop, although I did get stuck behind an SUV in that nice uphill just after turning south to Whangamata. By the time I got by the corners were mostly all gone.
Oh and I hit a bird just before we got to Parker Road. I don't think it was very big but it felt big enough. Luckily I was slowing for the intersection. Hit me on the collar bone. 30 seconds earlier might have been...erm..."interesting"...shall we say?
Tyres were great - chicken strips shrank a bit.

Nice video mr SF. Unfortunately I stopped using cameras on the road after a good friend of mine got done for speeding. The popo used his footage to prove he was speeding and done him for going 138 in 100km area. Poor bastard would have got off since it was a mufti and without a radar, so the speed would have been estimate only, but the popo saw the helmet cam and asked for the footage which silly mr friend handed over without argument. (don't know what the legality of the cop asking for footage is) So as a rule I try and avoid carrying anything on me that is likely to help the popos with prosecuting me if I do happen to go over the speed limit. No problems with the speed limit in that persnickular vid...and the speedo is rarely in view. Course there is a standard distance between white lines so speed can be estimated that way I suppose. As long as the replay is at the same fps as the original recording and how would you know that?

I wasn't suggesting you were speeding, and you are right, one can't see the speedo and there are no hints that you were breaking any laws. In my friends case, he was silly enough to mount his camera in a way that was partially showing the speedo, AND he was breaking the law by speeding. He can only blame him self. My point was that I chose not to have recording devices if they only end up being used against me. The other side of the coin tho is that one could be law abiding and some plonker in a cage pulls out and hits you. you then have evidence which can play in your favour if the accident has to be dsiputed in court.

They can however ask you to hand over footage if they have a reasonable reason to believe is used for criminal activity. And if they believe you were filming your self commiting an illigal act, aka, illigal racing, careless display of speed etc, then they can use it against you in a court of law.

mmm, why did I think you have tried a few? Oh well, I'll go back to sleep. Didn't know it was recorded in .mov. That would explain a few things. We did some videoing inside the father-in-laws race car and when we were watching it back it was stuttering with no sound. Looking at the Metzeler Tyres Elephant Run leaving from Pokeno on Sunday.
Register at Pokeno by the GAS station by 9:30 and off with instructions and last time wee elephants on the intersections where you turn, ended up at the Kaiawa pub for prize giving, no cost to participate.
A good social ride.
Forecast is for fine weather but will be cold first thing, read bloody cold.

Went to a ProRider course in Taupo, rode up on Saturday which was alright, ended up raining during the course which was kinda crap, but still fun, and then I rode home from Taupo.. 2 hours of getting absolutely pissed on.. and not being able to see a thing at some points
But then I had an hour long scorching hot shower, which made the trip totally worth it :P

At least you would have had 'manageable' traffic at that hour. All I've managed to do riding wise was head into the post office 3 times last week (about 10 min ride). Of course I went the longish way. I was telling the wife the other day, it's stupid how I forget how much I enjoy riding (how's that for a complicated sentence?). It's also crazy how much my riding has changed with the lessons I've done.
I was having a giggle with her that when I do 'hook turns' (Keith Code thing), I make the classic rrrrrrrr bike soundjust 'cause they're so fun! haha. Simple minds.
My bike's been on hold for a while. Even changing the insurance to only be sit-in-garage type. It's criminal not to ride it but if the rego was the same as before I wouldn't worry. Even considered doing a few track days instead.

Just read up on the thread. I didn't know you have gone through that many sets! Bloody hell!

I had a 3 hour session in the ANZ 737 full motion simulator, but the only time I could do it was between 11pm-2am as that was the only time it was free. Decided it would be a nice adventure to take the bike. Especially that the traffic at those times is pretty much dead. So the ride to and especially from the airport in the middle of the night was actually fun. Didn't get much sleep last night and now am paying for it at work :(

Mine's coming up 2 years as well, although mine had something like 10 km's on the clock and I've only just ticked over 10,000km's. Friggin' kid. The old man's is even worse. Since buying it off Brooke years ago I think he's put 300 km on it!

It was fun and pretty informative, some of it seemed fairly obvious and old news though, it includes a lot of things that people generally know such as counter steering.
I learned a few new things, it doesn't really help that I watched "Twist of the Wrist II" the night before though, kinda ruined some of the information for me.
We still did all the practical exercises even though it was raining, apparently also the first group she's had to ever do the braking exercises in the wet, which is mainly focused on just showing how inefficient the rear brake is.
The last thing of the day which was the cornering aspect of the program was the most fun, the track had started to dry up then and it was essentially free laps, great for someone who's never been on a track before.
Overall, I'd recommend it, I might go again another time just to drill in the skills and perhaps move onto the next course up or just go to a trackday.

Sounds like a good day. I've done a few training days in the wet (well they've started wet), and I always get a surprise at the riders that go balls out in the dry slow down a crap load in the wet. I find you learn heaps more in the wet about what you and your bike can do - to a point of course.

Phill and I had a brilliant ride yesterday. The countryside was lovely in the Autumn colours. The roads were spot on.
One hairy moment just before Ngaroma. The last fews k's had been re sealed, and in one shaded corner, the rear did a wee slide on the loose chips. Wearing sunnies through the dark corners on a gray unmarked road with loose chips isn't the best way to read the road.
I had my new Contours camera running for a lot of the trip. Recorded almost 4GB's of corners and hills.
We came back through Mangatautari. The piece from Finlay park camp to the turn off to the school had been re sealed a short time ago. It is being repaired again so expect loose gravel on the corners.
A good ride :yes::yes:

I've done just that a couple of times. I also keep an eye on what the Ulysses are doing. Their runs are usually damn good. I'd go on their ride tomorrow, but as my bikes rego has just run out, I'll give it a miss. They like their ride participants to have legal machines.

Its a hard position to be in as ride organisers - we had two unlicensed people come off on pye's par road one day. They came off because of inexperience. People organising a ride do hold some responsibility to the people who attend, even if its only a moral one. Personally i reckon that everyone owns their fate and responsibility is soley on them but the reality is that picking people out of a ditch sucks whether it was your responsibility or not.
The real question is where do you stop? pick a spot in the middle from;
Explaining to all riders that they are responsible for their life and should ride within their ability and not try to keep up.
and
Checking licences, registration, warrant of fitness, quality of gear, break disc thickness, shock absorber settings.

Can't remember that and can't think why we may have done it, if we did??? LOR have never checked anyones license or registration and as Adam said we believe in individual responsibility.
The only thing we ask for, is for people to not ride beyond their limit or ability and to be safe!!

Can't remember that and can't think why we may have done it, if we did???I used the wrong words - "checking" should be "looking" :( It was the day that I wanted someone to check my great riding skills and I stated my background about having a 6L for over 20 years - then I showed that I still had the 6L.
It really comes down to if it's an organised event (ride) or not. It really pisses me off that people who organise events have to cover their asses first and foremost. All because if the shit hits the fan, people can't say "yip I'm responsible for myself".
Yeah if you organise something, you always want to "protect" the other participants but let's face it, if someone is riding like a tool in front of you, it's your responsibility to either pull back and let them do what they're gonna do so you don't get collected or pull them over (if you have the gonads), take their keys and tell them to piss off by themselves so they don't kill anyone else.
I always think of LOR as someone coming up with a destination and a route and others following. No structure and just a few mates chilling. Hence no need for checks cause no one needs to cover their ass.
More structure = more responsibility.

This is the reason i started going for closed rides :)
I am pretty sure she didn't clip the truck but she got rather close, nice girl, her partner was suitably pissed off but seemed like a good guy. I wore most of the shit for that.
Anyways, its a tricky game organising rides, people should be responsible for themselves and everybody should be having fun, most of all the people that go to the effort of organising a ride and looking after noobs - its a pretty awesome gesture really :)

They're generally about half a days riding but that's with fluffing around and stops. Maybe a couple of hundy k's. The group goes sub-sonic speeds, Murray is the fastest. He usually goes so fast he rides the whole trip and ends up behind everyone again so no one gets lost
It really is your own pace. And if you seem to be going beyond your own pace...:Pokey:. There's so many varied speeds going on that you can always find someone to ride with at a speed you're comfortable with. Bloody good way to meet people.
I haven't been on a ride for AGES, but I think the super fast riders do their own thing now.

And saying its a testosterone decision as all u fellas have 600cc+ bikes. Well I have a 250 hyosung which is just maybe a step up from the gn250, very much still a learner and one hell of an ugly middle aged male. So unless Murray likes the hyo or me (or both) then maybe the guys warped, emotionally charged post is correct.
Also, there is no point in trying to catch up to the lead pack as there is a TEC that will make sure 1. you dont get lost, 2. can give u feedback if u ride like crap, 3. saves money on tickets

I am back on here out of curiosity mainly and to stir a bit haha, signed in to ask if there was a KB for victoria - turns out there are 4 similar sites and all of them are like google plus - empty and rarely used :/
Anyways. People gotta get riding :) i just had a 45min city ride on the 1000 - it was awesome!
Suppose thats a reasonable excuse :) Hey, I like G+...all 10 of us have great conversations haha (Red Bull has some cool shit too)

Fingers crossed the weather is reasonable, finally got the old man to decide to come for a ride. I think it was the fact he had to buy a new battery tender because the bike was flat from lack of use. Hell I think he's only put 300km's on it since owning it for 3 years!

I had to look up that place to find out where it is! Still don't know if I've been there (place not cafe - definitely haven't been there).
Might have to get to Kingsgate at 8:45(ish) to give me time to go through all the hash browns :) It's been a while and I'm out of practice a bit.

Actually it was Jamican Blue:
"A multipurpose product that is suitable for any occasion. The right mix of moisture content means it is suitable for baking as well as direct combustion. Mild in flavour and yet also delivers a sustainable sensation"
At least that's what it says on the box.

It was a good ride. Good to finally see the new faces. The old man enjoyed himself too and says thanks to all, especially Murray for being his "buddy". He's now more than doubled the k's that he's done on the bike! Dunno if he enjoyed breakfast or the ride more though :)

Nice wee pootle on Sunday - looked a bit yucky at 9.30 but rain held off and roads were dry. Nice to see some new faces (and some of the older crew) in our first ride for a wee while. First time ride with us for Ron, Don and Nev (hope your bikes OK and it was just an oil overfill?) and 14 bikes in total. Cruisey roads and not to much twisty stuff on this ride but pretty hard to find any going to Thames. Excellent cafe, excellent food, excellent people - thanks Shona and leader of the pack Milan for an enjoyable ride! Where to and when Next???

...someone was going around checking the regos. I'm all for paying regos because if I have to pay then so should everyone else but what business is it of someone else besides law enforcement to do the checks...

Again, not a problem for me as I am a tax paying sucker as I am too tired and too old to "fight the system" - but hey, at least there will be more parks now at Christmas time at Te Awa

mmm yes, I was reading this this mourning. I do like the line "it's about road safety". Well checking rego actually has nothing to do with road safety per se. Yes it's meant to "fund" safer roads in a way but not paying doesn't directly make the roads unsafe. So that argument is crap straight off. WOF is kind of another matter BUT as everyone knows having a WOF doesn't mean your vehicle is safe.
If they really were doing it for road safety they would be checking car condition first, i.e. tyres. If they look dodgy then they check WOF. No WOF = ticket. But this is why only the cops can ticket for unsafe motor vehicles, because only a trained person knows what is unsafe.
I do think tickets should be handed out for not having the minimum depth of tread on tyres especially during these winter months. Everything else is money gathering - pure and simple.

Had a coffee with Nigel (sorrelboy) yesterday and although today doesnt look to hot Sunday should be good for a wee pootle.
Tomorrow
Saturday 16
Fine, with frosts in sheltered places. Southerlies dying out.
Sunday 17
Increasing high cloud. Light winds.
Thought lunch might be in order so plan is to leave Ham at 10.30 from Kingsgate Hotel Hamilton head up backroad to Huntly, do Heatherington road to SH22 south from there to Waingaro and through to Raglan for lunch in the beer garden of the big white hotel on the main street then back to Hams - Not a huge ride but a fun one.
See ya Sunday if your keen.

Will see if Marie wants to head out. She hasn't ridden for months though so might not be the best idea to send her on SH22!
