View Full Version : Waikato: Laxed out rides

This is how I would also class a ride as technical. In my opinion it has nothing to do with speed but the complexity of the corners and how they flow in together (so to speak).
To me a technical ride is all corners that you can't take at a constant throttle.
Put it this way, the industrial section of the Frankton St circuit is very technical and the whole track and be class that way. Pukekoe is not. Not even remotely.
Does that help Muzza?
IMO
SH22 = technical
Kawhia road, hill section = technical
Arapuni Road = not technical
just a few...

In the calendar. I think most of the faster riders will be going (weather dependent) but they will look after you and you just need to ride at a pace you are comfortable with.

There's a guy in hamilton selling ex track sets of diablo supercorsa's for $300 they've done about 10 laps apparently, he lets you view them first.
I have his number if you are interested.
The supercorsa's are not great in the rain and they will wear out in about 4000km on your 600 (3000 on mine :s) but they are like superglue, stunning tires!

That's right, you had bugger all when I last rode with you.

Supers lasted 6000 on the Daytona so you'd get similar mileage to me, unless R6's aren't as nice on their tyres, which wouldn't surprise me.
From my 200 odd k's with the 2CT experience, I would have to say I prefer the 2CT on the Daytona 100%! I have better turn in and positive feel through the corner. I would have to say they suit my riding style more so it feels like I have more grip. Much more confidence inspiring. Great lean in. The bike feels more grounded when leaned over.
But different tyres suit different people and bikes. The problem is, it's an expensive "test" to do. I'll be sticking with the 2CT's from now on.
For what it's worth, I got my set fitted for $575 at Boyd's (bloody legends they are). So they gives you a price comparison when you start looking for rubber. And Spaz got nearly 10,000km out of his set!!!

Pretty good PUB meeting last night, about 14-15 people. Someone mentioned someone called Ian. Can't remember him myself, evidently he just stalks in the background now after his overseas training??? When will he come out to play again??
Ride looks good for Sunday with maybe 8 bikes pretty much confirmed. It sounds tho it will be pretty weather dependent and if it looks shitty in may be a "leytons run" (does anyone remember Claytons? or Logans run? sound similar!!) and follow the yellow brick road that leads away from the nasty clouds!
Waikato 10 day Regional Forecast
Sat 17 Cloudy with rain at times. Northwesterlies freshening.
Sun 18 Rain at times. Northwest turning fresh westerly.

My bike needs new chain and sprockets, re do the head bearings and front wheel bearings, new discs, and braided lines.
So may be off the road a couple of weeks
Which is all good - I have a new house to work on
For those who have offered to help with the shift (I can't remember everyone who offered) but we are moving next weekend, Friday and Saturday - any help would be appreciated, moving from 47 Clements Crescent to 14 Totara Drive.
Thanks for the offer guys

The reports and submissions by the government have been pointing the finger at motorcyclists and making us look like an unsafe bunch. I think they are expecting us to go all biker on them so the non-biking public agrees with them.
Public opinion is what will win this sort of battle, we don't need to be seen as idiots..
Burnouts on camera on the top of a building probably wont help :bleh:

Put em up I say, all for higher road tax on bikes. The younger riders who have a tendency to kill or hurt them selves may actually have to decide between keeping the car or the bike - can't afford both, and few will give up their bike or down size.
Too many older guys are buying a bike for a weekend buzz and hurting themselves, or killing them selves, hopefully making it more expensive will change their mind about owning one.
It may also mean cheaper larger motorbikes
So less people injuring or killing them selves, and cheaper bikes - All sounds good to me.

Very alternative view. And I agree with all points, however. And unrelaited to bikes, yet again the govenment trys to pass bollocks based on unreasonable numbers.
I heard today that it is quite the norm now for police officers during the shift change to wait around twiddling there thumbs whilst waiting for a car to go and do there night work in some parts of the country because the govenment ordered the police to cut down their fleat. Promises were that it would not be there frontline fleat, but it has happend.
The govenment can not keep covering up like this for bad mistakes, they need to listen to the other 4 million brains this country has to make an intelligent decissions for everyone.
I say raise the acc by %20, and bring in a $100 excess, it would offset the amount you had to pay for my round about accident :P
And yeah, I have thought about.. oh deer.. if it gets too expensive I might need to go down to a 250cc, Fuk that! hehe :)

I'm doing the loop tomorrow with a Auckland bunch (On the celander), so I might not be up for Sunday, will see how I feel, and how many KM's I got left before my next service! hehe
I would not advise the loop with a group unless you already know the group or you have been riding with groups for a while.
Should be a laxer but who knows :) I am still looping it anyways tomorrow.
If any of you experience laxy types who ride as slow as I do want to come along with me, give me a txt or something 021 025 25157 My guess the group will be around 10-15 bikes, majority from Auckland. Looks like it may be a sensible ride...

I attempted to go for a ride yesterday. Was down at Taupo in the weekend watching the father-in-law race so I thought I owed myself a ride. Starting charging out Pokura Rd and noticed there were people sitting on the side of the road. Nice of them to see me off.
Blat up the road then "holy shit what's all these cars?". Road was closed for a rally. Charged up a side road and bugger me they're here too. Oh well, thought I'd wait and watch some porsches blast around a bumpy intersection.
Got sick of that with all the leathers on so thought I'd see if I could go around them using another side road. Really getting into the twisties then..."these guys are just greedy". They had this road closed as well. Judging by what I could hear from their tyres protesting, I should have actually got off my bike and had a look at this corner.
Instead, I pissed off home and worked on the house. Stink. Didn't get my fix enough.
I don't think I'd like to be cramped up on an R6 - I'd have knee dents on my stomach after 502 ks
The r6 is like a cruiser for position compared to the Daytona :) They don't call 'em the "torture rack" for nothing. Which is kinda weird since I find it quite comfy and better than other bikes. Maybe I was into kinky shit in a past life ;)

They're good at mixing with semi-old twats - like me and Warr and Murray, and.............and............and..........yeah there's a few of us. The younger ones humor us a little.
The LOR have plenty of toilet breaks for those who need to change their pads, take a pill or straighten out before the adenosine triphosphate is depleted from our muscle fibers, gota watch out for the back at our age.

Protest gathering. No ride was involved. Personally I liked the way everyone was well behaved with no interrupting until Bennett decided he'd spew out about the bullshit stats. Boy, did he get buggered :bash: then the other dude got just as much but he seemed as though he was trying to fight back.
I have the feeling they're not listening if they're still crapping on about the proven-wrong stats.

Well, that depends how you ride. 250 on a track or road gets about the same. 600 + on the track :gob: It's actually amusing.

I never really checked things that often on the car. On the bike, if something goes wrong i.e. chain, tyres etc, you're in the shit big time. It's just not worth not paying attention too. But if you're only riding around town, I can see why people wouldn't really worry about it. 50km/hr and tyre blows compared with 100...

That's the part I don't undersatnd - why so many gay men want to do that.
Personally I know easier ways of seducing the opposite sex, than to dress like a gay man ponce around a dance floor
Do you shave your chest and wear those gay lookin outfits like they make the guys wear on that 'dancing with the queers' program on TV?

Actually, Smoky, I took it up because years ago, when I was a primary school teacher in Norfland, one of the local religious groups (Exclusive Brethren) objected to their kids participating in folk dance classes (part of the PE syllabus at the time). There argument was, and I quote..."folk dancing involves holding hands with the opposite sex and that leads to fornication".
At the time I dismissed it as loopy but I got to thinking eventually and decided "Fuck! I gotta try this out!!" And y'know what?

I know that the road works to Raglan include a fairly long patch of gravel that goes up a hill along a wide corner. Just saw it yesterday, but it's better than it was on Monday, less gravely more like driving over boulders.
It's the corner about a click before that right turn off towards Wainaro.

:niceone: to right. Why work when you can ride. It's a condition in my current contract...
17.1 "If a 'perfect riding day' (refer to 17.35) occurs during the employees normal work hours, the employer shall grant the employee temporary leave from work to fulfil his required duties as a two-wheel junkie"
It's very flexible. It covers mountain biking as well. Clause 17.2 refers to boarding i.e wakeboarding and snowboarding.
When I had fewer hobbies year ago, I had the same clause written into my contract for windsurfing. Works a treat.

I'd be real keen to get involved in anything local - not so sure about riding my wee machine all the way to Aux.
I think it would be good to do something as a region so the govt see that this is a nationwide action.

Couple of us went up thru the back road to Auckland and into the city to Deuce cafe - corner of Wellesely and Nelson Street http://www.deus.com.au/#/about/
Awesome show of classic and retro bikes, awesome food, I can recommend the french toast for breakfast
Then up to BarryPoint Road to check a couple of bike shops and try on a couple of bikes for size.
After that we headed up around the East Coast to Mangawhia heads for lunch, then Port Albert, a bit of back country gravel road to get onto 16 then down to Massey. After clearing Auckland we eventually headed back on some back roads between 22 and state 1 and into the back of Glen Afton, Glen Massey and back to Hamilton - a fair bit of riding, good roads, awesome day

pretty poor turn out at pub meeting last week and I spent 8 water sodden hours just to get there. Worse conditions ever in the desert road. Hope a few more turn up 2moro. Its getting to be good beer drinking weather.
Hopefully Elvis the Pelvis may get out in time to come for a few quiets tomorrow, sounds like he might enjoy a few.
Best wishes Cam!!
