After leaving at 9am and getting home closer to 6pm, I had better spend the weekend doing 'husband' stuff.

Had a fantastic day cruising the Waiuku Manukau Heads area. Somewhere between Tuakau and Waiuku, I was got directionally challenged. However being a real man, I simply rode around in circles for 1/2 hr until I got there. ( wife would've had to ask someone).

The roads were brilliant. Sweeping curves, tight bends, good surface's Lovely countryside. Very picturesque.

The answer to above question would appear to be "kiwibiker".

I posted that yesterday morning after running into impenetrable fog on my early morning run and look what was presented this morning? :woohoo: - sunshine, dry (mostly anyway) roads and the chance to rack up over 100km before work. That run comprising over the hill to Raglan and back via Ohautira Road, Waingaro Road and SH39 as far as Whatawhata and thence back into Dinsdiddle.

Noice roide.

I know the feeling. The bike is just coming off it's 3 month exemption and we'll only be able to afford 6 months since we have the car rego next month and until Brooke starts earning some decent money selling her body! She's not gonna have many parts left after today's bike spend...the puncture that was "repaired" on Saturday missed the glass that was still in there and the 2nd hole, and the "check engine" light that we needed checking out after it was serviced last week meant stones in the exhaust!

Another $150. If I knew it was bloody stones I would have sorted it myself. Ass!

On the bright side, I'm glad I don't have a diesel as well as the bike. Rego will be killing me.

Did you not know that?? :) That's why everyone bitches on here haha. My little blat over to Matamata on Saturday night in the freezing rain was actually good fun too. Didn't even know it was cold...or raining (until I lifted the visor). I just thought the roads were damp from an earlier rain.

I had to give Brooke and "what the hell is this?" the other day 'cause the bike looked like it had gone through a swamp. Even the bike shop gave her stick. No respect. Wouldn't have that problem if it was tucked up in the garage under it's blankie.

very good pricing at Boyds at the moment for these ($895) they thrown in the tinted visor ($130) & these come standard with the pinlock & anti fog set-up which I tested more than once on my last outing & swear this IS the best anti-fog set-up $$$ can buy....... haha Brooke's Shoei Raid is still in immaculate condition so she doesn't really need another helmet. She's also just forked over a good chuck of cash for some winter gloves and winter jacket. In saying that, I did tell her that since we were looking at getting a pinlock visor for her helmet, she could just spend the extra $700 and get the visor free. It makes perfect sense :)

We're looking at getting a Kriega pack as well instead of a Ventura pack rack but GOD they're pricey. Since she's riding the bike everyday might as well try and make it as comfy as possible.

Road and Sport have the Shoei Qwest with the pinlock in at a good price IIRC. It is the replacement for the RaidII. I am going to get one as my RaidII is F*&ked.

i got mine from boyds for $700, and i recently got a tinted visor for $89, but then had to pay like $50 for the insert as it didnt come with it. its anti fog is awsome. only ever had this helmet so i was shocked when i rode with my tinted visor before getting an insert, couldnt believe how quick it fogged up. dont think id ever get a helmet without one.

wait have to edit lol, just clicked you got a graphic, mines a solid colour thats why it was cheaper.

I paid $900 for mine when they first came out and they through in an iridium visor. Those bloody things are $200! I got sick of the iridium one fogging on misty days on got an insert for that as well. They really are awesome. Now I just need 2 little ones to stop my bloody glasses fogging up! haha

If anyone is interrested, it might be a good ride, considering forcast is for Sun on Sunday:Punk:

Yes it was a fine ride, even though it was wee bit frosty that early in the morning and the Zed's rear end was bit loose on few corners on the way to Ragatown.

Was gonna ask where the building with the deck was. Looks like a kinda cool location. And the food?

It's the Nikau Cafe on Waikaretu Valley Road - a road I'd not ridden before.

I can't vouch for the food nor the coffee since the queue was so long I abandoned the wait and pushed on to Tuakau. The place itself, on a sunny day like yesterday, was idyllic. I will most definitely ride there again.

Interesting experience on the way home. Heading south from Ngaruawahia to Whatawhata via SH39. Just out of town there's quite a tight right hander. As I approach I see three bikes coming the other way - quite quickly - into the corner. Which set off the warning bell - it's not the best laid out corner in the world. Sure enough, squid No 1 in the lead over estimates his ability and runs wide - crossing the centre line. Which I kinda expected. He was lucky I wasn't his equivalent coming the other way...

That'd be a right pain in the arse, eh - getting taken out by a loon on the way home after safely negotiating 300km of twisty roads.

Had no interest in my proposed ride last Sunday. so I went with the Ulysses to Aratiatia dam. Quite neat watching the gates opened and the water coming thru. Almost as much water as fell from the sky for most of the ride. We went via the sth Waikato, returning via Pohipi rd and up the Dam country.

The wet ride reminded me that rain need not interfere with having an enjoyable day out on the bike. It was my first decent run on this bike in the wet. I did have a couple of hairy moments on the cruiser though, went a 'wee' tad wide on one or two corners. The feedback isn't as responsive as a sportsbike.

Also, trying to mix it with the big 1000cc sportsbikes in the wet isn't the done thing on a midsized cruiser.

"What?"
"It's called scorched yellow, not yellow. Yellow would be like a canary. If you ride a Triumph you have to learn the colours. We have to sit a course and everything"

Apparently the SY's are an asshole if the paint gets damaged because no one can match exactly. They have to respray everything. That's only what I've been told though.

I would be almost willing to bet that the poor bastard hit grovel or other shit on the road. That road is known for not being exactly nice and clean at best of times.

A while ago mate of mine came around corner on the Ngaruawahia - Waignaro road, and came to grief on a corner, where there was grovel strawn after road works but no roadworks signage was placed to warn traffic. He spent few mnths in hospital then successfully sued the local council and roading company for not indicating that there were roadworks present. They paid for his bike and his loss of wages. Though nothing could fully fix his badly brocken leg.

Had that around there a few times. One of the reasons I barely ride around that area. Which is a shame since it's a nice road apart from that crap.

Surely, they must have a legal "duty of care" and negligence would have to come into it. It wouldn't be hard to prove. I wonder if this should happen more (the suing part) to get them to sort out the bullshit road laying. They don't need to keep those stupid 30km/h signs up (which they seem to do for far too long. Just keep the "new seal" signs up or sweep the damn road.

Came through Maungatautari Road this morning. Quite a lot of loose metal on that one too. Oh and no signs of course...

Had that there too. Every time I ride that road they have lose gravel with no signs.

When I did my defensive driving course (for me bike :) ) there was a guy there that worked for Fulton Hogan or one of the other big roading companies. There were 2 bikers in the class and so we told him what the deal is when they forget to put the gravel signs out or take them down too early. Especially on a corner. He didn't actually think about the shit it causes bikes. He was a young guy and generally in charge of the signs so said he'll make sure on all his sites, they stay out until clear.

I thought it would be common sense. Interesting how you look at things differently when they can kill you.

FFS dont blame the road, if there is shit on the road, ride around it, and if you cant because your going to fast then why are you?
What if there was a tractor driving super slow on the corner? a log of firewood, a dead freckin Possum, a giant rock fallen from a cliff, a bottle, anything !

if you cant see the corner is clear and smooth and free of hazards then you should be riding in readiness to stop !

And if you choose to ride fast through a corner you havent or dont check and crash ,boo bloody hoo, you are the road user not the council, its your body that you need to protect not the councils body so take some ownership of it and ride to protect it !

Simple

The council has NO responsibility to provide a race track to plonker bikers to race on, its a public road get over it. shit happens and anything can and will happen be ready for it

I do agree with you there, but no matter how slow you ride, if there is grovel right on the corner and you have nowhere to go then you still going to loose it even at 30kms. Couple of times on my adv bike I was riding through Gentle Annie, the Taihepy end where there was seal, blind corner, I was doing 35kms because of a hairpin, suddenly there was loose grovel on both lanes, I ended up nearly dropping the bike at that speed because the front end went. Yes you should ride to your ability and prepare that every cage is going to hit you and that every corner will have a nasty surprise, BUT if the councli took their responsibility more seriously then roadworks would not be left unmarked etc.

bla bla bla bla Q rant goes here ;)

The council has NO responsibility to provide a race track to plonker bikers to race on, its a public road get over it. shit happens and anything can and will happen be ready for it

Don't you worry, I ride VERY much within the confines of the corner. Personally, I wasn't talking about me ever coming off from gravel. I'm talking not knowing whats beyond the corner, riding slower than my granny road pace, and slipping on gravel at low speeds. Hell, even sliding on cow shit a few times. I could see all through the corner, but smelt something so slowed down.

My concern is if you have a 1m deep pothole, not signed, around a 45km/h corner and you are doing 30km/h, the shit is still gonna hit the fan one way or another. Extreme example yes, but even gravel on the road can catch you out doing under the proposed corner speed.

BUT if the councli took their responsibility more seriously then roadworks would not be left unmarked etc.

And this is also my point. It's got nothing to do with racing or what not. If my industry, if you fail to label something potentially dangerous, YOU are responsible. It's not passing the blame, it's being responsible for your job and providing a duty of care to those that use your "service".

Don't get me wrong, I hate all that shit when people whine that someone else should have protected them or did something else, when it was them that failed to take responsibility first.

May be a few of us heading to Kawhia for a coffee on Sunday. Leaving Kingsgate Hotel at 10.30 a.m. sharp. There and back then to the clubrooms to watch the end of Bathurst and rugger knock out games!!! What a way to spend a Sunday:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Will put in calendar to see if anyone interested!!

And you call yaself a beer swinging kiwi male?! Pfft. Only 3 things get done this Sunday, watching, eating, and drinking. If food or drink run out then mother gets sent out to replenish stock (wifey will be watching, eating and drinking as well).

If children are capable of replenishing stock, they can be substituted for mother.

So whats more kiwi male than going for a bike ride, watching the racing (Bathhurst and the Gee gees) at the pub, then watching the rugby at the pub while chugging back on jugs of beer!!! Riding, Racing, Racing and Rugby

While you: you sit in a lazy chair for the day and sip on your little stubbies and watch an aussie race then fall asleep before the rugby because you have finished your six pack.

It's about the commitment. True men, watch the whole race, including build up. You can be excused from build up if you are rebuilding any type of engine.

True men, will ride earlier in the mourning to demonstrate there commitment.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'm going to take a run over to the Mount and see for myself the ship and the beach.

Yes, I know it is 'rubbernecking' but if I stay out of the way of the operation, I would like to see 1st hand, the disaster. I'll grab a bite at Macca's for tea.

Will leave Te Awamutu about 3-4pm. I need to be back home for work by 9pm. If anyone wants to come for an evening ride we could meet up at Cambridge.

no ride planned this weekend and it looks like its going to be wet. Nigel (sorrelboy) is looking at planning a ride shortly up to the lighthouse at the Manukau heads and Nov 6th looking at joining the local ulysses group for a secret run to Taumaranui. (Meeting 10.00 am Caltex Te Awamutu) Start dusting those bikes off. And if anyone interested a 2 nighter to Palmerston North 18th & 19th November. And then JMK's charity run end of Nov?? Nah, Decided that the fuel wasn't worth using up on a short run ( time wise) so will head over there somewhere next Weds/Thursday. (days off).

What day would Nigel be looking at for the run to Manukau heads? Went up there a few weeks ago. Lovely scenery and roads.

You told us how fast Lou and Alan are. That is well known to me and most people in the Ulysses club know better than to even think about taking either of them on. I think that you should answer my question which was posed to you as a bit of a joke, before you pose questions to me. In short I am not encouraging anything. I simply asked you a question. In this context I don't know what you mean by one of your questions to me. What are you implying? I don't think that I have raised any questions about your ability as a rider but you appear to be questioning mine. I am very thick skinned and I am only very slightly offended.

:killingme:killingme spoken like a true lawyer !!! Ohh well them's the brakes........... In reply to your question yes I can keep up with them & have done many a time but that was back when Lou was on his trusty FJR or Motard & Alan on his VFR, I dont remember having ever ridden with Lou when he had his Tuono & have not be out with Alan since he brought his Trump So now things would be a little differant but still entertaning to say the least

Well done I enjoyed the answer. It was as I thought it would be. And yes I can stay upright most of the time.

I prefer to do the Coro loop on a weekday - to avoid the Weekend Warriors...
Less car traffic on the weekdays as well. Tried doing it on a weekend once (on the Saturday before the Paeroa racing) lots of campervans and boat trailers, made it to Whiritoa before giving up and going back to Paeroa.

I'd like to confirm coming, but as I'm working Saturday night-sunday morning, I will have to wait and see how fresh I am, that morning.

I would start off with a hiss and a roar, but come mid afternoon, if it is hot, I might be struggling to stay awake. No point being a problem to others, and yes, it is possible to fall asleep while riding a bike.

Sunday

Fine spells, with isolated showers becoming scattered in the evening. Westerly winds.

Don't no whats happened to the registraions but spankme is having some problems with the site so obviously this has affected them 8-10 pax indicating they are coming at the moment and then Ulysses on top of that. Should be a good ride. feel like a ride in the countryside!!

Due to a major fuckup affecting me at present I have cancelled my registration for this event. Should things sort out in time I might turn up anyway but don't bother waiting if I'm not there.

Have a nice ride everyone.

Went to a Hmcc meeting a few years ago. It all seemed to be about off road riding, MX, Trials etc. Do they have a strong road riding section?

Yep, real strong. Also monthly meetings are themed, ie last month was show casing Italian bikes including St4, St3, 620 Multstrada, M900, SS900 bevel, 1098, RSV4 fact, RSV mille, V11 Breva.

Last Thursday had an evening ride to Raggers with 20 odd bikes including Hondas new Crossrunner.

Worth checking out, first Thurs every month.

Tell me about it. Brooke and I decided to go to the city. Last minute change of clothing from jeans since it was drizzling but holy heck, on the way home it pissed down. Was a good ride to hamilton though.

I reckon !!! So much for the forecasted drizzles, it was fairly consistent from TK all the way home..... I had to light a fire once home to dry all my gear out :wait::wait: followed by a nice hot shower & copious amounts of bourbon :drinknsin still a good ride apart from that !!

If the pillion had a pink mohawk and jacket that would have been us :)

haha same here. Brooke made a joke of putting the fire on and I thought bugger it. The bourbon would have been nice but I polished that off on the last cold day.
