Murray
26th November 2014, 20:33
This will be changed to 5th or 6th December. Will let you know after Wednesday - more lightly 6th???

OK the 5th is quiet at the moment so super special rate for LOR group of only $30 per person buffet dinner and live band. Note the other nights are far busier so cannot offer special rates on these nights. 240+ on 12th.

We now have 8 from LOR attending so let me know if you want to come so I can book tables

What no takers?? Come on guys and girls get out a bit???

Donna's leaving us to take up a job in Blenheim so shes sort of said she would be down the clubrooms Wednesday if any one wants a farewell drink with her.

Boxing day 8 of us are heading off from the Kingsgate at 8.00pm to the Wanganui street races. We will be heading to Palmie after the races but if anyone wants some company on the way down please join us. It will be cruisey with coffee and morning tea on the way. Hopefully get there about the start of the first couple of races.

Big Fat Santa will be paying a visit and will be handing out 'Secret Santa' pressies to those bikers who have been nice......and doing rather unhygienic things to those that haven't been...

Make sure you bring a wrapped pressie to put in Santas Pink Wrinkly Sack, spend no more than $2 unless you can get a cheap deal at Madame Hussy's House of Leather and Glue

So, here's the deal.....

MEETING POINT 2 BP Ngaruawahia 11.00am rolling at 11.15am

VENUE The Raglan Hotel for eats and wagging of chins then to the beach to tan yer bits for those that want to

Thats it, nearly Crimbo so grab the bike and the family and lets have a day out doing stupid shit

Damnit! I missed out. I went over that way a couple weeks ago and had a mint as ride. Thought I was making good time when I had another guy catch me as I got stuck behind a car at that 1-way bridge near Whiritoa, he was so quick. I gave him room to pass at the top of the hill heading towards Whanga, he thanked me by poppin' up the front wheel as he passed, tried to keep up for all of about 5 corners and he was gone!

This saturday is looking good. I'd be keen to ride over those ways if anyone else is.

Weather is looking better for Sunday now too, should be a good ride with some laughs :D

I will be leaving from the Bombay start.....

I guess with my Daughter as pillion as she doesn't have enough road miles yet for a big ride, well she has no open road riding yet as she has been working he holiday job and plays in a pipe band so weekends she has been playing Christmas parades since she got her learners. I guess we need to do some local rides to make sure her bike is reliable first too :P

...apart from bees and rubbish...

This has to be one of the best rides you can do from Te Tron. About 230 k depending upon where in Te Tron you start from.

http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/Best-Waikato-Ride

You might have to watch out for certain random hazards though...f'rinstance:

Came up behind an SUfuckingV towing a trailer. Just as I pulled out to pass, the load on the trailer came adrift and fell onto the road right in font of me. Somehow, I got through the mess without contact and duly offered the driver the Chinese good luck sign...

Stopped off at Whakapapa for a coffee ( and to let my knee stop hurting...oh and to change the undies after the rubbish incident too... ).

Cleaned off half an inch of bug spooge from the visor, started south. And then ran into a swarm of bees. Like machine bullets off the visor - rattattattat etc. Which immediately turned the visor back to smegma. Somehow none got within stinging range.

All good from then on if you don't count the two dudes (in SUV's again) who turned across oncoming traffic (which included myself).

I'd recommend that ride to anyone. It's fucking great.

Is Happy Valley the one that runs along a stream/river at some point? Real cool roads around that area.

I was bloody gaging for a ride yesterday after the unexpected nice weather. Couldn't be assed doing much else. Instead firing the bike up every-so-often to make sure the battery was charging itself alright. After 4ish years of stuff all riding and just sitting for long periods, the battery only now needs charging back up when it sits for a few weeks. I'm quite impressed really, but it means I have to plan my spontaneous rides.

Also home again after same trip as Don, was a great 1258 K ride over 3 days, took in some pretty amazing roads and we encountered every conceivable weather type but never really got wet, even today coming over the Bombay's, a bit of drizzily stuff but never got wet. Tired and happy, got all the bucket list things sorted for my Ratbag and enjoyed the company of good mates.
Cheers Murray and Trina for another bloody great away do.
Wanganui racing was superb, heat impressive, Palmy Cossie the absolute best, Taihape Motel once again the top spot in the middle of the North Island.

You just need more imagination!

Yesterday:
Morrinsville to Auckland by car
Auckland to Blenheim by plane
Blenheim to Picton by new bike (My dual sport toy!) - but not by the shortest route, took Port Underwood Road.
Picton to Wellington by ferry
Wellington to Palmerston North by bike.

Today:
Palmerston North to Morrinsville by bike.
This took a while because I went by this route:
Palmerson North
Feilding
Kimbolton
Taihape
Napier
Taihape
Tokoroa
Matamata
Morrinsville

Yep, I went through the Gentle Annie road and enjoyed it so much I turned around and went through it again. I got back to Taihape with less than 2 litres of fuel in my tank, I had fueled up in Taihape before doing the Gentle Annie both ways.

I picked up the DR650 yesterday and I've already put a thousand kms on it.

By the way - Gentle Annie is fun as fuck!
The road from Kimbolton to Taihape is pretty fun too.
Port Underwood road is pretty good on a dual sport, wouldn't be keen on taking a road bike over the slippery dirt parts.

Well, at least your road bike isn't ~320kg. Damned if I'd be wanting to ride on dirt with my ST.
The biggest difference has been pushing the DR from the pump to a parking space in the service station - so light and easy to push compared to the ST.
My DR is tall & skinny and my ST is short and fat, but the fat one can move pretty fast.

Yup, da Waikato has plenty of fantsatic roads.
Pity that itty bit straight bit at Meremere can't be used on weekdays for general speed testing and reliability studies.
Well Don, a completed run in the am and a not so completed but still whole, albeit a bit sore in body, run a little latter was still worth the ride down mate.
Go hard or go home is what we used to say, just over the hill at the Dirt track.
Best day at the drags I've seen in a long time, plenty of good machines and lots of pretty damn close racing.
Will ride down to see you run again.

1. Short: About 120km. Tron to Raglan, back to Ohautira Rd, up to Waingaro Rd (SH22), back to Ngaruawahia, to Whatawhata and back to Te Tron.

2. Longer: About 230km. Tron to Kihikihi, Arapuni Road, over the dam, south on Old Taupo to Tokoroa, Maraetai Rd to Whakamaru dam, back up Waipapa Rd to Parawera, to Kihikihi and return to Tron. Or, even better, turn around at Whakapapa and come back the same way you went.

As it will be too hot to chop wood or mow lawns, and Judy will be at work on Wednesday, I'm going to take a ride down around the area between Atiamuri/ Orakei Orako/ Waikiti Valley. Will probably cross the Waikato river on the Tutakau rd, wobble my way across to Waikiti valley and re cross the river at the Ohakuri dam. Will probably be a couple of short stretch of gravel in there somewhere. May do SH1 up to Tokoroa then ride the Old Taupo rd/ Maungatautari route home.

The 29th is my next weekend off. I want to ride some of the roads in the Waiteti Valley area, between the Waikato river, SH30 (upper Atiamuri rd) and SH5. I intend to make my way over the Ohakuri dam via Whakamaru and meander my way up to Rotorua for some lunch and refuelling. Approx 158k from Te A. If anyone does want to come, they can choose to head back via the Mamaku's, or the Atiamuri road, or do what I hope to do, take in the Waiketi Valley road out to SH5 then on to Tutukau road. From there most likely, up SH1 to Tokoroa and the Old Taupo road. I have a couple of routes planned, one has some gravel roads, the other is all sealed.

I ride a 250 cruiser, so sit around the 90-100k mark.

Autumn morning rides can be the best. Air is cool, engines run better, you don't die of heat stroke, the tar hasn't melted and if you are early enough there is fuck all traffic to contend with.

Like today. Say what you like about Te Tron, there are some excellent morning rides to be had at this time of year and lots of top roads to ride.

Course, on the down side, all the local councils are resealing roads all over the place before the end of the financial year...

You already contacted the postal company (normally NZ Post). I was waiting for something that was "waiting on customs" and I ended up contacting NZ Post to sort shit quicker. Then ended up contacted Customs to finalise everything. I've since contacted Customs again because the valued my stuff more than what I paid, even though I gave them my invoice. So now they're reversing all the charges :)

Get onto the postal company if you haven't (use the website chat - it's faster), and watch the value Customs use to calculate everything. They're pretty hopeless with how long they take to get back to you.

Rode toward Kawhia yesterday, turn off at Harbour road and head around the south Kawhia harbour, you end up rolling in at Waitomo caves, the roads were in great condition apart from recently sealed road with a bit of loose stuff still to be swept off, one part of road was just perfect and encouraged some head down riding, would recommend a ride down there for sure, is about 250 K round trip from Pukete.

But I'll get lonely [emoji14] ...I generally prefer to ride in a group of 2-4, the guys I ride with have a fairly similar pace to me, so it keeps us on our toes

Cheers

Went through to Putaruru late afternoon, return trip was about 5 oclock. Fantastic scenery on the return. The late sun making long shadows across the green fields and rolling hills, and shining through the trees dropping the yellow, red, orange leaves of Autumn all making for sharp crisp colours. Yes they do need doing, but I need to go to Otorohanga and the bike is the only vehicle with gas in the tank.

Not quite ageless Caseye, going to be made redundant by xmas and with two years to go before retirement the bike may have to be flogged off. No likely hood of finding work that will support a car and a bike, so may as well enjoy the bike while I can.

Left Te A heading for Tauranga, all geared up for rain. I hit pieces of drizzle but that was all. The road was wet for most of the ride. Crossed the Karapiro dam, then onto Karapiro/Taotaoroa road. A bit of light rain here so no racing. I like to take the side roads as much as possible, so after Totmans, Langlands, Okoroire rd, I found Waiomou road. I was intending to get the Waikato tag and went looking for a new tag still over this side of the Waikato. Into Kakahu road and had a ball. Good sealed surface, narrow, unmarked but nice views and tight corners.
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/awa355/Kakahu%20rd.jpg

The Kaimai road was damp but little sign of diesel to concern me. Had this chap going like hell behind me trying desperately to get past. I finally relented and pulled the 23hp 250 over to let him go.
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/awa355/camaro.jpg

The rest of the trip was fairly mundane. A couple of roadworks down the Tga side. Coming home I got Jim's tag at Tepoi then returned through Taotaoroa road. I had hoped the sun might play ball and make for some late afternoon photos of the hillsides. It stayed behind clouds and this was as good as I got.
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w420/awa355/tao%20rd.jpg

The ride was never intended to be for a ride story but was still a interesting run. Staying off the main highways as much as possible helped.

I had thought of an alternative ride to Eden park on the Friday night before to watch the Highlanders have a practice run against the Blues.:lol: The friday night traffic sort of kills the attraction of that. Plus which, I'd probably get sat behind the Highlanders goalposts and have to watch the game through binoculars.

Agree. For me, it seems since I nearly (finally) finished the house, Brooke decided it would be a good time to start all over again by moving on a little fixer-upper. I suppose she's thinking I have to do it while my renovating skills are still fresh.

A wee way off yet, but I'm thinking of riding down to New Plymouth on Saturday 13 June to take in the Chiefs v Hurricaines game. I'll be riding back after the game. Should be a good day/night ride. Probably leave Te A about 2pm,

Is there off road parking at Yarrow stadium? I've zoomed in and there does not seem to be any obvious parking area.

It may be a very very quiet thread now days, no more "most bins wins" comments or many rides being planned, wonder what we can do to liven it up?

How about start up a street race in Hamilton?

Not a street race, how about a I.O.M. styled race. Say Wharepapa sth - Whakamaru. No officials, marshalls, would be done and dusted before the cops got there. :eek5::eek5:

Heading out tomorrow morning, over to Leamington, around Mangatautari to Arapuni. From there, down the Old Taupo rd to Whakamaru. Coffee and kai then onto the Bennydale road and home via Tekuiti.
Weather should be clear but going to be 'crisp'. ;);)
