The drama over the Signal group chat between Trump Cabinet members continues. During the chat Pete Kegbreath posted,“We are currently clean on OPSEC.”
Clean on OPSEC except for the presence of a journalist on the call?

Almost unbelievably one group member was in Moscow during the call. The correct procedure would have been for him to visit the embassy and use their SCIF. Not only did he not do that, it's not certain he even used a secure phone.

Tulsi Gabbard stated in the Congressional hearing that no classified matters were discussed. She also stated that she cannot answer questions regarding the call because it is classified.

As a retired general said, if a group of military officers had done this they would all have been suspended immediately and be facing Courts Martial.

Interesting. Charges have been brought against all of the participants in the Signal group chat under the Federal Records Act. The judge assigned is Judge Boesberg. He who Trump loves to hate.

The Federal Records Act requires that copies are kept of all official government communications. The group were presumably using Signal so there would be no record.
Anyhoo they now have a chance to prove that their motives were as pure as the driven snow.

Trump has introduced a 25% tariff on motor vehicles. Prices have risen sharply in recent years and the yards are full with nothing moving. To fully understand the likely result of the tariff it would be necessary to know which cars are assembled in the US and which aren't.
I don't suppose it's just a favour to his biggest donor to make Tesla more competitive against Chinese imports?

While there currently are no Chinese branded cars sold in America, some models of other brands that are made in China are, like the Polestar 1 and 2, Volvo S90 and a couple 'American' models. A few Doug Demuro vids brought this to my attention when he's reviewed them or spoken about them but I did need to look up which ones they were.

How did these guys get in power?

That is a very good question. There was more information about who and what Trump is than any previous president. Yet enough people voted for a criminal conman with an IQ barely above handicapped level to get him elected.

Then there is Project 2025 which mentioned Trump by name over 300 times yet some suggested that didn't mean he knew about it. Of course he immediately started implementing the policies in P2025 and appointed the authors to high positions in his administration.

The gullibility of some people is beyond comprehension.

Yes, thank you for posting the press release of the Democratic Party.

How'd that work out with the voters?

Oh yes, Popular Vote, House, Senate, Presidency - all Republican.

And that is where the Rubber hits the road. Biden, on multiple fronts, was an abject disaster. The American people soundly rejected him and his Parties ideas and his annointed successor Kamala.

At some point the Left has to see where it has gone wrong. I doubt it will, or we will see a situation like in the UK where Keir Starmer got elected.

Pete Kegbreath Secretary of Defence and town drunk, has been claiming that the US military is now a meritocracy. DEI is dead. That will be why he was appointed to Trump's cabinet from a weekend talking head position on FOX. That'll also be why his younger brother has been appointed to a senior advisor position at the Pentagon despite having no relevant qualifications or experience. Kegbreath the younger's entire career to date has been involved with podcasting.

Pete has also been towing his wife around a series of high level international meetings. In case you are wondering that is not normal. Not even close.

What does our resident US Constitution expert have to say about trump claiming he can have a third presidential term?

onearmedbandit
1st April 2025, 11:28
To be fair, he's not claiming he can yet (from what I've seen), just looking into whether he could. I was reading yesterday that there are a couple ways he could, have maybe Vance run for office and then have him step down and hand the presidency to Trump or change to the constitution (which then support numbers wouldn't be there for him).

No - this potential loophole is invalidated by the 12th Amendment redefining the procedure to elect the president and vice president, experts said. This earlier amendment, ratified in 1804, states that “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” This means that, because he would have already served two terms, Trump would be barred from running as president and thus also barred from being vice president.

or change to the constitution (which then support numbers wouldn't be there for him)

Agree, unlikely as amending the Constitution to abolish the two-term limit would be exceedingly difficult, requiring either a two-thirds vote of Congress or two-thirds of the states agreeing to call a constitutional convention to propose changes. Either route would then require ratification from three-quarters of the states.

A third method would involve just riding roughshod over the Constitution , with the S/C as backup, and that might just lead to a civil war

Yes this was mentioned in the article I read but they had a counter to that which I'll quote from another source -

Other legal experts, however, point to the last sentence of the 12th Amendment, which covers the Electoral College, as a roadblock for any twice-elected president attempting to return to the White House through the vice presidency. It says that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

Still, in court, a lawyer could try to argue that being a "natural born" citizen, at least 35 years old and a resident within the U.S. for at least 14 years are the only presidential eligibility requirements specified in the Constitution, says Stephen Gillers, a professor emeritus at New York University School of Law, who proposed in 2004 that Clinton run for vice president.

Typically, all down to interpretations, the devil is in the detail. This article does cite another way he could though -

The federal government-sanctioned record of interpretations of the Constitution also points to the possibility of a former two-term president serving as speaker of the House of Representatives or as another federal officer who could become president through the Presidential Succession Act of 1947.

Interpretations again.

Trump has presented his US Liberation Day speech and I made myself sit through it. Mostly waffle, lots of denigrating Biden, lots of whinging about how unfairly treated the US is. Versions of the phrase, "like nobody has ever seen before" appeared at intervals. Australia received specific mention though, they export beef to the US but won't import US beef, 'to protect their farmers'. Not true. Very few countries will accept US beef because of the chemical growth hormones.

Motorcycles received specific mention. The US has a low tariff on imported motorbikes. Many countries, particularly those in Asia, have a very high tariff on imported bikes. It's hard to imagine the scooter riders in Vietnam or India swapping their mounts for Harleys because of tariff changes.

At one point he produced a chart showing the tariffs other countries put on US goods and the tariffs US put, or will put, on theirs. It did seem the lowest tariff anyone could expect would be 10%. NZ wasn't on the list that I could see so we have to wait.

Computer hardware companies, chip makers etc, were listed. Many are to return to US production to the value of about half a trillion annually. So too cars. Another half trillion.

Apparently most imports from the US are tariff free here. Newstalk ZB News reports that the US govt figures incorrectly indicate that NZ has a 20% tariff on US imports. It seems the US civil servants can't distinguish between a tariff and a GST.

My retail business is largely US based, with most orders going to USA individuals. How will I be effected? Who the fuck knows as there is zero details on how all this is going to be administered. The whole thing could be totally performative and trump is waiting for countries to come and bend the knee granting concessions. They say the tariffs are being implemented Thursday, but it appears there is no plan in place or details of what that actually looks like and works admin wise. Also, I noticed how the seemingly disproportionately tarrifed poorer countries just happen to also be mineral rich - inflating my already high suspicion that this is all performative.

He’s basically charging half of whatever the other country is charging. Sounded pretty reasonable.
Yes we call it gst but essentially it’s a 15% sales tax whether it’s on imported goods or not. Thanks Adern.

But if anyone suggested boycotting Israeli products you'd be screaming like a stuck pig.
Free free to suggest a boycott of all Israeli pork products ,some things will never be kosher.
I seems you are confused though. What I object to is not the free exchange of political ideas, I object to your obvious rampant racism about anything Jewish. Ranging from your denial of the Holocaust. Your denial of the existence of gas chambers, Plus all sorts of other stuff you claim about Jews. Including but not limited to being behind 911 or some sort of Jewish conspiracy to take over the world. Also your continued posting of crackpot conspiracy ideas in general.
I feel this is because you can't tell the difference between spreading racially motivated hate speech and free speech.
I don't blame you for your ignorance, I solely blame your lack of intelligence.

Yes we call it gst but essentially it’s a 15% sales tax whether it’s on imported goods or not. Thanks Adern.

You clearly alacking some insight, its a 10% tariff on goods sold into the USA by NZ, VS GST which s an internal tax paid on all goods so there is no advantage or disadvantage on it being imported or not. so its not half of what nz charges When a person with anything over child like intellect looks at this. they should be able understand how the US is not disadvantaged from GST. If anything a lot of goods come into NZ from direct purchases without having the GST added.

I saw it at the time but didn't take notice. Trump went walkabout again. If it was Biden the press would be trumpeting it from the tree tops. At the end of his speech Trump wandered off past the desk with executive orders on it awaiting his signature. Not for the first time a staff member had to stop him and redirect him back to where he was supposed to be. He didn't even know where he was.

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/04/03/economy/reciprocal-tariff-math/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc

Interestingly the president does not normally have the power to introduce tariffs. So it seems Trump signed two executive orders. The first declared an emergency which then, in theory, gave him the power to create the tariffs.

It's not impossible that Congress could yet stall the tariffs. It depends on how concerned Republicans are at the possibility of losing their seats because of the impending recession.

One analyst has said the crash may be deliberate. During times of market stress funds seek the safety of US govt bonds. The amount of money flowing into bonds right now is apparently forcing the rates down. The govt uses bonds to repay debt and right now the govt is getting a 10% discount on that tool which ads up quite nicely for them.

Anyone who’s losing money right now including myself is only there due to a lack of risk management. We all knew this volatility was coming. Once the dust settles it will be like a briscoes 50-60% of everything sale and the cycle begins again.

Funny how people hate on billionaires then hate on the man who who slashes their profit margins….

Somewhat interesting goings on in the US - of course. As time passes there seems to be a lengthening list of people who were shipped to prison in El Salvador in error.
One was a refugee with court ordered protected status. The Judge told the government to fix it. The government replied thatt it couldn't. The judge said they have until 11.59PM Monday.

While I admire the judge's optimism I can't help feeling this will not end well for the prisoner.

Yes watched that over the weekend, some NZ politicians have been using Singapore as the yardstick for economic success we should be aspiring to for decades and that seems to demonstrate why.

Meanwhile President Trump could declare "my beautiful trade war is over and we won so big" tomorrow and everything goes back to normal. Or not, and after a couple of months China invades Taiwan using the economic stress created by the trade war as an excuse. I wouldn't rule out anything at all at this point, which does make it difficult for our average politicians to judge their responses.

So, this video has been doing the rounds - and I am going to post it here for a number of reasons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBF73bCYg5A

This is Nancy Pelosi, in 1996 talking about China-US Trade.

Firstly I want you to do a little bit of a thought experiment - close your eyes - and pretend it is Donald Trump's voice - does the messaging sound any different?

I have been saying for years that MAGA is essentially disenfranchised 90's era Democrats - and here we have the Arch-Democrat herself, from the 90s - saying what Trump is saying now.

Next, I want to re-iterate another of my favourite talking points - Every president of both flavors, with the exception of Trump has allowed this problem to get worse and worse over the last 30+ years.

Finally - linked to the above point - is I want to outline just how far the Democrats have shifted Left. The above speech would be considered today as 'Far Right extremism' and 'Fascist Nationalism' and other such buzzwords that I am loathed to use. Back then, it was a reasonable left-wing position.

Couldn't agree with her more. I think I heard Novarro ran (unsuccessfully) for office a few times as a Democrat?

But this isn't China's fault (or before them Japan's or Germany's, or more recently Vietnam's), however. Blaming them is pure misdirection. It's 100% the fault of the US government AND US corporations embracing globalisation as their preferred economic (and political) strategy, and as you say, it's taken 30+ years to get where we are today.

President Trump seems intent on blowing the whole system up overnight. And in the process, goad China into...what, exactly? Authoritarian regimes are not known for backing down when challenged internationally.

Yep - in the 90s he tried to run as a Democrat (anyone starting to notice a pattern here?)

Blame and fault are too harsh a word IMO.

From the Chinese side - their disregard for Copyright is definitely a key factor and more generally the theory that Economic prosperity would turn a Communist country into a liberal western democracy abjectly failed.

The US Government are more culpable than most as it was their trade policy that allowed this to happen. I don't think you can judge the US Corporations for what they did. Afterall, if you can reduce your costs by a significant percentage - why wouldn't you?

One group not mentioned is Us, that is the Consumer - we constantly demand more for less and we, too, have our part to play. How many of us would spend more for an item that does the same thing, based purely on where it was made?

As for the final part - Well, this is where it gets interesting. If we look at Russia and how well they are or are not doing in the Ukraine, We see a numerically superior force being held at bay mostly by better equipment. Quick Aside - the defenders always have an advantage of sorts and the Ukrainians are putting up one hell of a fight.

One very clear conclusion to be drawn is that the West's military equipment is simply better than anything that the old Communist Bloc has. China has not been battle-tested, they do not have a blue water navy that can hold a candle to the US.

They are, quite simply, not in the position yet to throw weight around. Give them another 10-20 years if nothing changes - and I would agree that they would spoil for a fight.

Hence why I believe that it is critical that something be done now.

He was advised that it would cost over a hundred million dollars and given a variety of other reasons including that DC is built on a swamp and tanks travelling down Pennsylvania Avenue was not an option.

Trump has now surrounded himself with more compliant minions and he has apparently announced a big military parade to be held on his birthday. Kim Jong Trump? It would be interesting to see a breakdown on those numbers. If you google Independence Day costs you’ll see it’s typically cheaper by a factor of ten at least and that’s with complaints about spending last time.
American citizens spend some 9.4 Billion celebrating July 4, an average of $28 each so I do r think people will be concerned at celebrating Americas success and national pride.
Apparently a lot of military costs come out of their budgeted training hours for flying or logistics in transporting tanks etc.

Well this aged badly, seems you managed to get everything wrong. As you say though tariffs are complicated which is why Trump's calculations have nothing to do with tariffs at all. Far too complicated for his cretins.

WTF did Ardern have to do with GST?

I was actually looking for another of your posts where I seem to recall you thought that some people would be making a killing on the markets due to the volatility introduced by Trump's erratic behaviour.. I thought so too. I did wonder about insider trading though. There is an opinion that US politicians of all stripes play that game if possible. This time the focus is on Marjorie Taylor Green who has been making quite a large number of particularly advantageous trades the timing of which is suspicious. It'll be interesting to watch developments if the spotlight shines on her.

I'm sure you will all recall the plight of the immigrant with protected status and an America wife who was shipped off to El Salvador. A judge ruled that he be returned by midnight the following Monday. The Trump Justice Department refused. That ruling was appealed to the Supreme Court who put it on hold for a week or so. The Justices have now decided, they have ruled 9 - 0 that he is to be returned to the USA.

This may still end badly though. I don't think Trump wants him running around telling the world about what is happening in El Salvador.

Ever the gentleman Pete Kegbreath stepped up and took the heat off Kristi. It seems he had another text message group, more in the nature of friends and family, on which he posted war plans prior to the attack on Yemen. This is strike 2 for Pete but he may be out anyway.

And why.

The website autismspeaks can answer that for you.

https://www.autismspeaks.org/what-causes-autism

Why is autism on the rise?

Autism prevalence has risen due to increased awareness of autism, broader diagnostic criteria for autism, improved screening tools and standardized screening processes. These factors have led to earlier detection and more diagnoses.

Changes in diagnostic criteria: Diagnostic guidelines have evolved from the DSM-III to the current DSM-5, broadening the definition of autism. The modern autism diagnosis now includes people with lower support needs who previously got a different diagnosis or were overlooked entirely.
Improved screening tools and procedures: The development and widespread use of more effective screening tools, such as the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) published in 2001, have enabled earlier and more accurate identification of autism in all young children.
Increased awareness: Greater autism awareness in the public as well as among medical professionals has led to an increase in diagnoses. In 2007, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) formally recommended that pediatricians begin incorporating standardized autism screening at 18- and 24-month well-child visits, leading to a rise in autism diagnosis and improved access to early intervention.

While the impact of other genetic and environmental factors on prevalence is still being studied, they likely account for only a small part of the increase.

Oh they also have information on the link between vaccines and autism too.

Do vaccines cause autism?

There is no connection between vaccines and autism. Autism is often diagnosed around the same time children receive routine vaccinations, which has led to concerns about a connection—but decades of scientific research have confirmed that vaccines do not cause autism. In fact, vaccines play a crucial role in protecting children from serious diseases like measles. Explore the research on vaccines and autism.

A few more epic own goals are emerging from the rather bluntly implemented tariffs coupled with chinas war material restrictions.
The new F47 stealth fighter was announced with lines like the enemy will never see it coming. Well even America won’t see it as Boeing is now named on Chinas do not export critical materials to list.
On top of that one of Boeings critical suppliers of aerospace spec fasteners has announced it’s not going to import them anymore due to tariff costs.
This is all on top of Boeing being way behind schedule and ability to deliver even passenger plane contracts.
Meanwhile China plane builder Comac is rapidly scaling up and going to be the next big or only global player as airbus and Boeing keep getting crippled by own western govt policies.
Never mind accepting Chinese made motorbikes, your next big holiday may be flying out on made in China whether you like it or not.

I don't rate an invitation to such occasions, but the Official Vatican Invitations specified that attendees wear black!

"The Vatican, as it typically does, had a strict dress code for attendees.
For men, it dictated dark suits with white shirts and long black ties.
Shoes, long socks, coats, and umbrellas were also asked to be black to mark the occasion."

Obviously... this does not apply to trump and other egotistical, vain, self-centered, self-absorbed, ego-maniacal, and conceited 'royals'!

Trump has surreptitiously raised a very large red flag. He has authorised the US military to operate in an area across three southern border states. The whole area has been redefined as a military installation. The assigned duties include search, arrest, and crowd control. US law prohibits the US military from operating in the US and against its own citizens. This is an attempt to get around the law, a low key introduction. Not unlike the boiling of the frog?

Pete is at least nominally against waste, fraud, and abuse, and his priority is maximising the effectiveness of the "war fighters." To these ends he has installed a make up room in the Pentagon.

Beyond the grave. There’s a lot of debate about using AI to complete dead authors unfinished books.
But I just got chaTGPT to do a Hunter S Thompson spiel on Trump and I’m not disappointed. Think you’ll all enjoy

By the late Hunter S. Thompson (not really, but damned close)

Somewhere near the flaming edge of the American Dream

There’s something grotesque about waking up in the year of our Lord 2016 and finding that the President of the United States is a bloated real estate huckster from Queens who made his name slapping gold on skyscrapers and peddling snake oil to rubes on late-night TV. And yet, there he is—Donald J. Trump—grinning like a jackal in a red power tie, waving his tiny fists while the republic burns behind him like a derailed oil train.

I’ve seen some bad acts in American politics—Nixon slinking around the White House like a vampire in a windbreaker, Reagan playing cowboy while his brain turned to pudding, the Bush dynasty treating the Constitution like a bar tab they could stick someone else with—but Trump... Trump is something new. Not a politician. Not even a man, really. More like a weaponized symptom of the disease we’ve all been pretending we didn’t have for the last 50 years. Late-stage capitalism given flesh and spray tan.

Make no mistake: this isn’t politics. This is reality porn for the chronically online. The elevation of a man with the attention span of a concussed ferret and the moral code of a slot machine into the most powerful seat on the planet. The Beast has breached the gate, and it’s tweeting at 3 a.m. about toilet pressure and celebrity grudges.

People say he’s a genius because he “tells it like it is.” No—what he tells is the lie so enormous, so cartoonishly vile, that it short-circuits the critical faculties of half the electorate. He’s the chaos candidate, a foghorn in a library, a carnival barker who accidentally got elected King and then tried to run the country like one of his failed casinos—loud, gaudy, bankrupt in six months, and reeking of unpaid contractors.

And the people love it. Christ, they love it. Because Trump didn’t hijack America—he is America, or at least the ugly, bloated, steroid-fed caricature we’ve been selling to the world for decades. He’s the logical endpoint of our obsession with celebrity, with wealth, with dominance without dignity. He’s everything we warned about when we said the center couldn’t hold—but we laughed too hard at the warning, thinking the joke was on someone else.

It wasn’t.

Now we’re all in it—neck-deep in the swamp he promised to drain, watching him install family members and golf buddies while the grifters gorge themselves and the news becomes indistinguishable from satire. The country is a sideshow, the world is on fire, and the president is angry because someone didn’t like his tie.

The American Dream? That’s long dead. Trump just dug up the corpse, slapped a wig on it, and sold tickets to the freak show.

God help us all.

Qatar is in the process of making a gift to Trump of a Boeing "whorehouse in the sky" worth some $400,000.00. Well it will officially be donated to the government because for Trump to accept it would be cause for impeachment. When he leaves office the plan is that ownership would transfer to the Trump library. A cruel joke because the Trump library would fit in the map pocket behind your car seat. In reality the ownership would transfer to Trump.

The plan is to spend big bucks adding the extra comms gear, inflight refuelling capability and anti missile defences etc needed to bring it up to Air Force 1 standard.

There is a slight inconvenience though, the US Constitution which states in the foreign emolument clause as follows:
"Nor shall any person holding any office of profit or trust under the United States, or any of them, accept any present, emolument, office or title of any kind whatever from any King, Prince or foreign State; nor shall the United States in Congress assembled, or any of them, grant any title of nobility."

King, Prince or foreign state? Trump scored a hat trick there.

The Justice Dept has OK'd the arrangement. That'd be the DoJ headed by Attorney General Pam Bondi, formerly paid over a million dollars a year to act as registered foreign agent for the state of Qatar. No conflict of interest there then.

If the Democrats don't strive to throw an outsize spanner in the works they might as well give up.

This guy isn’t a politician — he’s a game show host who wandered onto the wrong set and decided to start bombing the script. And America, bless its chemically-addled soul, cheered him on like he was the second coming of Thomas Jefferson in a Brioni suit.

But let’s not get confused here. Trump didn’t ruin America. Oh no. He’s the natural byproduct of a country that worships money, bullies, and big shiny things. He’s the orange zit on the face of a bloated culture that thinks fast food is a food group and billionaires are messiahs.

You wanted a straight-talker? You got a guy who lies with the confidence of a televangelist on meth. You wanted an outsider? You got a real estate huckster who’s been neck-deep in the system his entire life — just on the side that buys the politicians instead of pretending to be one.

This guy speaks to the “forgotten man,” sure — but only if the forgotten man is a loudmouth uncle who gets banned from Applebee’s for screaming about windmills and Hillary Clinton.

But hey, let’s not make this just about Trump. He’s not the disease — he’s the rash. The itchy, inflamed, loud-mouthed rash that pops up after decades of American stupidity, greed, and willful ignorance. And half the country scratched it raw and called it patriotism.

So yeah, Trump’s a clown — but the circus has been in town a long, long time. He just ran off with the megaphone and the keys to the Ferris wheel.

And you know what the real joke is?

He didn’t lie to the American people — he told them exactly what they wanted to hear. Over and over. Loudly. With hand gestures. And a red hat.

Closing Note (Carlin-style):
“Trump isn’t the end of the world. He’s just what it looks like when the empire starts using its outside voice.”

Qatar is in the process of making a gift to Trump of a Boeing "whorehouse in the sky" worth some $400,000.00.

Jeez I’d buy one for that…who am I kidding.

It’s 400 million though, obviously, I mean President Trump wouldn’t be seen dead in a jet worth $400,000.

Coincidentally I saw not one, but two Rolls Royces this afternoon, the SUV one (yikes, also fixed wheel hubs with the logo on them, what’s that about? How gauche) and the more typical sedan. He likes Rolls Royces also, no tariffs on them, because of course you can’t build them anywhere else but in Britain…except for all the BMW componentry.

Omaha Nebraska has its first ever black mayor in a 20 point swing against the incumbent Republican. The incumbent ran on banning trans people from public restrooms, the successful challenger ran on fixing potholes.

This result will blow a chill wind through Congress. Republicans will note the result and contemplate the effect that a twenty point swing would have in their district.

Ah well, it seems we only have an impeachment vote coming up. Nothing serious then.

So, I have been seeing this a lot on Left-Wing Content, which I find hilarious.

Consider a video or a post screaming about how terrible and Fascistic the Trump Government is.

Someone will reply or comment on it "We have had enough! When are we going to start FIGHTING BACK! and not protesting!"

And then something magical happens:

"So, I guess you'll be supporting the 2nd Amendment now"

Followed by screeching from the Left.

I have seen this multiple times and it constantly amuses me.

Tourists not so much, so many countries are issuing travel advisory notices as they have had a large up tick in overzealous border agents detaining and strip searching then deporting tourists for the crime of having anti trump sentiments on their phones. - this includes the nz government saying beware btw.

Trump hasn’t suspended the constitution or declared himself king
Not in words, but in actions, trying to get rid of birthrights, and rights to due process under the flimsiest of reasons, and lets not forget his team fighting to get a him a 3rd term, Steve Bannon and Steven "Dracula" Miller. And there is the small matter of defying a direct unanimous ruling from the supreme court. Sounds like the actions of a wannabe king to me.

He hasn’t engaged in retaliatory style lawfare against political opponents.
Political opponents, no - but media and law firms, absolutely yes - lawfare galore there.

What about the many people who have lost their jobs due to the tariff uncertainties, some large car manufacturers have closed down plants since trump started his stupid tariff wars. It is not all about just the stock markets.
Because his tariffs potentially effect my business I have been keeping an eye on what he says. I carefully watched his state of the nation speech and liberation day speech and he listed a wide range of "feel good" policies that were going to be financed by these tariffs. He also said manufacturing will come back to the USA. I mean would you have the confidence to build a plant when the guy in charge changes his mind by the hour? Lets take the China tariffs. China kinda just sat back, issued a few tariff hikes of their own and not much more, in the mean time trump spits out crazy shit for weeks, with no end of big noting, then ultimately capitulates and declares a win. China gave up nothing.
So how is trump going to finance these policies without this big tariff windfalls?

!00% factually incorrect.

People have been rounded up and sent to camps in the US. These are "black sites" the people cannot be contacted by lawyers or anybody else. American citizens are not safe, US citizens have been deported. Also immigrants who have served in the military, and thus qualify for citizenship, have also been deported.

Trump is ignoring the Constitution and the Supreme Court. So saying he hasn't suspended the Constitution (yet) is playing with semantics.

A judge was arrested for doing her job. Trump's FBI Director has said he will prosecute people he perceives as enemies of Trump. It seems though that currently he's more interested in night clubs than work. In his case that's a good thing.

Following storms in the mid west leaving twenty eight dead and dozens injured, people in Kentucky are waiting in vain for relief to arrive from the federal government. FEMA, the federal government relief agency, was gutted by DOGE. They have neither the staff nor the funding to provide assistance. Similarly the meteorological services were reduced and after hours coverage was cut completely resulting in some of the storms arriving without warning.

Officials in Kentucky say they have had no contact from central government at all. Trump who has said that the states should look after their own problems, recently made a rambling speech but made no mention of the disaster at all. Almost as if it hasn't happened.

Kentucky, Missouri, and Texas will not yet have had time to ponder the thought that elections have consequences.

Over the last five years, weather-related deaths are up 20% from 2019 and injuries have increased 120%, while the number of weather events have increased 11%. In 2023, 75,104 weather events resulted in 877 deaths and 3,857 injuries. Heat, wildfires, and tornadoes were responsible for the most deaths during 2023. The largest number of reported injuries resulted from heat, tornadoes, and winter weather. The deadliest weather events in the United States over the past five years include winter weather in 2021, drought and heat wave in 2023, and drought and heat wave in 2021.

It's not the job of FEMA to be 'at every bad event'. It's their job to be there immediately after the event to assist the potentially thousands of people who have no water, food, or shelter.

Since DOGE gutted the staff FEMA currently lack sufficient people with the technical knowledge to do the job. We have all seen how Trump performs in an emergency situation. He's as much use as the proverbial chocolate tea pot.

It seems Trump is not pleased with his new name TACO. Trump Always Chickens Out. He said he had never heard that. I'm not surprised, any staff member telling him about that would be looking for a job.

In a very long Truth Social post he had a good whinge about judges among other things. The judges finding against him in court on an almost daily basis are not the left wing nutters he seems to think. Some were appointed by Republican presidents including Trump himself. He explains that he just appointed names put forward to him by the Federalist Society. We knew that but now he is unhappy about it. He calls Leonard Leo a sleazebag. That might be biting the hand that feeds you though. Leonard Leo, he who has bought and paid for a couple of Supreme Court justices, is a billionaire donator to right wing US causes.

In conclusion a little Schadenfreude? Stephen Miller, the architect of Trump's immigration policies and an all round arsehole, was married a while back to the surprise of many. It seems the relationship may have struck rocks. His bride has left the White House to work for Elon Musk. It's thought by many that the new arrangement is not entirely employment related.

Interesting. Farming operations in red states rely on undocumented immigrants in the thousands. So ICE is raiding court houses in LA, arresting people who are endeavouring to obtain legal status by the proper means. Hardly the hardened criminals famed cuckold Stephen Miller keeps ranting about. Naturally the citizens of LA have protested. Trump has ordered the National Guard to deploy. The power to deploy the Guard belongs with the Governor of California, not the president. There is an act of Congress specifically forbidding this exact situation. Pete Kegbreath reportedly wants to deploy the US Marines in LA. Again unlawfull.

Apparently we now have a race between the courts ordering the troops withdrawn and Trump declaring Martial Law. Even if he can't spell it.

It seemed to me that the Democrats were always unduly optimistic about the mid term elections. If martial law is declared, King Trump can probably postpone the elections.

I'll have to start listening to stateside constitutional experts again to fully understand the ramifications. Meanwhile we await developments with bated breath.

Trying to do it by the proper means would mean leaving the USA, going back to where they are a Citizen or Legal Resident, then applying for the correct residency Visa.

As for LA - well, California has the highest proportion of Illegal Migrants - so it stands to reason that this is why ICE would be targetting California.

I think as an Immigrant to another country, I might know a thing or two about the Immigration process.

If they are already in the country with a valid temporary Visa, going for their Green Card (Permanent Residency Visa) - then they have nothing to fear.

In almost all cases - One has to apply for a temporary Visa before entering the country.

There is a Change of Status process - but this more for exceptional circumstances - e.g. I was lawfully in the USA on Holiday (not an Illegal Migrant) and I was headhunted by a US Company for a job that was too good to pass up and they needed a start ASAP.

And no, I do not believe that they are all valid Asylum seekers.

Sauce (https://www.newsweek.com/map-shows-states-illegal-immigration-2010192#:~:text=You%20can%20contact%20Billal%20at% 20b.rahman%40newsweek.com.&text=California%20and%20Texas%20remained%20the,whi le%20Texas%20had%202.1%20million.)

California and Texas remained the leading states for undocumented immigrant populations in 2022, accounting for 42 percent of the 10.99 million U.S. total, a Newsweek map shows.

California had 2.6 million unauthorized immigrants, while Texas had 2.1 million.

So correct on the second one - which means there is very much an intellectual reason for this being done - namely you go to where the problem is the most prevalent.

I will grant that since California is a Demorat state and opposes this, there is an element of Political Theatre - But that opens up a whole load of other questions.

Not so. Even citizens are being trafficked. The word deported is not appropriate in the circumstances.

Notwithstanding that even you don't believe much of what you post. There is no path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the US. You confused that with legal status. Illegal immigrants may become legal immigrants which is why they would be attending court hearings.

Don't try and intellectualise any of this Stephen Miller just hates brown people. It's just that simple. He is especially angry at the moment because it seems his bride has left him for Elon Musk. Katie evidently has abysmal taste in blokes.

Trump simply wants vengeance against Democrats. He recently threatened to cut federal funding to California. Ironic because most federal funding comes from the likes of California and New York. The red states mostly exist on federal welfare.

Some states would likely have a higher proportion of illegal immigrants. Their major industries rely on them. Intensive farming and meat packing plants are almost entirely staffed by undocumented immigrants. It would be easy to round them up but catastrophic to the local economy. Even Trump's golf courses rely on immigrant labour to a large extent.

Anyhoo you will believe what you choose as will I.

Eh.... The most recent case I can think of where a so-called 'Citizen' was Deported... Turns out they were not a Citizen at all. And had gone through 2 court processes that ordered Deportation.

Of course, there are dependents - but they aren't being 'Deported' as such, they are remaining with their legal guardian (who is being deported)

There is no path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the US.

Yes there is, Leave the country and then apply properly.... Like everyone else.

You confused that with legal status. Illegal immigrants may become legal immigrants which is why they would be attending court hearings.

Which would be a Change of Status. Most often this is via Asylum - but very rarely successful. Most of them know they do not meet the Legal requirements to be a Legal Immigrant - that's why they entered Illegally in the first place.

Don't try and intellectualise any of this Stephen Miller just hates brown people.

I disagree. Putting aside various Economic and Social arguments - the key crux that I hear from many Republicans is this: They broke the Law and should not be here - removing them from the US and returning them to where they came from is Justice - it is the right thing to do.

The fact that we have come to the point in Western Politics where we no longer have a consensus around Legal vs Illegal Migration is absurd to me - even more so that there are many elements where an actual discussion could be had.

Trump simply wants vengeance against Democrats. He recently threatened to cut federal funding to California. Ironic because most federal funding comes from the likes of California and New York. The red states mostly exist on federal welfare.

Tragedy upon the American people bought to you by GREEEEEEEED & CORRUPTION.

I am confused how a protest of the other side of the USA is a danger to democracy, and yet a insurrection attacking the seat of Govt in Washington was just a peaceful protest..

I bet there’s a lot of people out there forgetting what they had to say about the beehive protestors….

Suddenly “free speech” is fashionable again. I wonder what the fire and fury doco makers would have to say about all this.
Every now and then something happens that illustrates a new level of dumbness. Some of the protesters have decided to ram the police lines while riding small motorbikes with a probability of success being zero. Multiple federal crimes are involved, asssukt on police and with a weapon, prob deadly weapon, anyhow jail terms are looking around 40 year mark. At least in jail they will spend time with many former undocumented migrants….

On a side note if you thought MI6/CIA/SBU drones launching out of trucks was clever( blatant tipoff of the world in conflict game franchise from 20 years ago) the California protestors have taken guerilla warfare/insurgency to a new level. They’ve been summoning driverless Waymo cars spray painting their propoganda on them then setting g them on fire as barricades.
Guess you could call it dial a bonfire.

True. Trump is now referring to what is happening in LA as an insurrection. That's total bollox of course but observers think that he is preparing to invoke the Insurrection Act. Sadly that is probably correct, it was the plan all along.

Cockwomble trump has 500 marines on the way to LA now to "protect" government property.
He is testing how complient and loyal the armed forces are to him. And I fear they will be.

Again, a fantastic distraction at worst, and a accelerated time line to a dictatorship at best for trump. This was always the plan.

Not cheap, those cars ($100,000+ US). Doubtful if they’re comprehensively insured either, given the nature of the business. Ouch.

Thought for the day. If this is how people (protestors) who legitimately belong in America behave, you couldn’t have a better illustration of why it’s important to check who you let in the country.

My moneys on the other states making Californians apply for a visa to cross state lines next.

I think people trying to get to work on rock covered freeways will care.

I think people with jobs whose taxes will pay for all the damage will care.

I think the critically ill elderly or cancer patients who couldn’t get to hospital due to protests will care.

Trump is sending even more troops.
Get used to this, as this new found trump distraction method is a doozy.
So expect him to ignite and inflame mini wars every time he fucks something else up or screws the middle/lower classes - which is all the time.

Just wait to see what he does when the mid terms don't go the republicans way.

I dunno - the Mexican President is telling me that the 'protesters' are Patriotic Mexicans.

The pictures show people waving Mexican flags, wearing Keffiyehs, chanting anti-American and revolutionary slogans.

The 'Protesters' who seem to have a remarkable access to bricks and breeze blocks, Riot shields that are clearly made, professionally printed placards etc.

But all the curious trail of coincidences aside - I think there is one overarching point: If they hate the USA so much, then why are they there? This is where the protests are doing the Lords Work when it comes to anti-Illegal Immigration sentiment - because even the regular people are asking that question.

Also - I am loving the 'leadership' that Gavin Newsom is providing. Very Presidential.:lol::lol:

Exactly.

And the funniest thing is - a lot of Lefties have been going:

"Where is the 2nd Amendment advocates now, LOL!!!"

To which All the Republicans make the following points:

"Yes, if you genuinely believe the US Government is Tyrannical, go grab your Rifle and overthrow the Government"
and
"Good luck doing that in California"

Nailed it.

Hundreds of millions of dollars of damage both physical and unseen (loss of productivity, opportunity etc) all absorbed by the rate payers (the middle class) whether direct or indirect. The claims will start rolling in.

Heyya Dean, nice to note your concern for the middle class.
With that in mind, what do you think of trumps "Big Beautiful Bill" adding trillions in national debt to largely pay for tax cuts for the rich?
And is adding national debt what republicans nauseatingly and insistently whined about all through the last 4 years?
From where I stand I can only see it being a big beautiful bill for the rich, and a big fucking ugly tax bill for the middle class to pay for years to come.
What say you?

Seems to me the circumstances in California are exactly those anticipated by the second amendment
I feel I have found the perfect instrument for 2nd amendment aficionados.

Yes it is impracticable and not really fit for purpose, much like the second amendment itself.

Your thought for the day is confused. No surprises there. From memory California is the world's fourth biggest economy. A large chunk of their taxes goes to support the inbred Trump voters in the raggedy arsed states. They would love the federal government to give them an excuse to leave the US. California could become a province of Canada?
