Your thought for the day is confused. No surprises there. From memory California is the world's fourth biggest economy. A large chunk of their taxes goes to support the inbred Trump voters in the raggedy arsed states. They would love the federal government to give them an excuse to leave the US. California could become a province of Canada?

Love it, they could rename the new Country as Calanda :shifty:

Love it, they could rename the new Country as Calanda :shifty:

the aftermath of the upcoming civil war might look like Canada aligned with the western states (currently Washington State, Oregon, California - that gives them all of the western seaboard and borders with Canadia and Mehico... if they draw the line at (say) the top of the Rockies then they have to work out what to do with ARizona, Nevada, Utah. Colorado spans the Rockies too. Lot of nukes in bunkers in the flat bits. It is a fairly defensible land border but of course that is the least of your worries really. When California secedes from the Union, that will be the trigger.

pritch
11th June 2025, 15:39
There has been from time to time talk of secession. Marjorie Taylor Greene was keen on the idea of the southern states seceding. An approiately idiotic idea for her, the southern states are only kept afloat by money from the big cities which are all Democrat. The southern states on their own would be broke in weeks.

Recently I was watching a series on YouTube. A guy drives across the USA filming what he sees and citing the relevant statistics and history. In Texas many towns deliberately create an entirely false impression. The Main Street is sealed. The side streets are sealed for precisely one block. The rest is dirt roads. If you drive straight through it looks great.

Trump recently threatened to withhold federal funding from California. He must be about about as bright as MTG. The Governor of California replied that California would withhold all federal taxes. Difficult to do these days since most of the tax take is automated but hopefully he has somebody working on how it could be done.

Since I posted that previous post YouTube has served me up a Los Angeles resident passionately suggesting secession. From little acorns giant oak trees grow.

Trump has been referring to paid protestors again. There is no evidence to suggest this has ever been true but Trump has occasionally paid people to attend events.

His latest effort is paying people to attend his DC military birthday bash. Some of the language is interesting. They want people for 'space maximisation and attendance perception' as well as 'maximum perception control'. And for this the attendees get $1,000 paid in Trump's crypto currency, a lunch of fast food and a soda.

The ad particularly requires people of colour and ethnic groups who as a bonus are likely to be arrested by ICE after the conclusion of the day's events?

Read some history, son. It'll do you good.

Start here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_United_States

There is a really good book I read years ago about the Constitutional congress. I cannot remember the title or author now. If I do I will send it on. Fun fact though: most of the delegates were atheists and it was really important to them that the machinery of government be free of the yoke of religion - bearing in mind they had just beaten the English who were ruled by a constitutional monarch who was apparently ordained by god to rule. Again - hazy memory but I am pretty sure Ben Franklin was a leading light.

Far cry from the christofascist theocracy now in charge, no?

I strongly advise the American people who actually value democracy - they need to give this cockwomble (and the armed forces at the same) a valuable lesson. And the best way they can achieve that is to go in their hundreds of thousands to trumps birthday parade in Washington, D.C this Saturday US time - and sit on the road "peacefully" in front of the tanks ensuring his parade goes nowhere. They aren't doing that but there are a series of "No kings" protests all over the country. Well, in blue states anyway.

I just hope it rains on Trump's parade. The forecast did mention rain but currently the forecast is for sun and temperatures close to 100f. Nice for any troops marching.

One piece of good news: a federal court has restored control of the California National Guard to the governor. Governor Newsom says that tomorrow the Guard will go back to what they were doing before Trump interfered.

It seems Trump missed the bit where if you want to show you are powerful.
A gaudy show of force is not power. Just as a gaudy show of gold and flashy crap like gold taps and watches is not a sign of true wealth.
Superficial displays tend to come from very insecure personalities.
True power is shown through the use of restraint when faced with provocation and measured carefully considered response to aggressive acts.
True wealth is shown by understated class and willingness to help the less fortunate.
Maybe he's solely playing to the less sophisticated of all audiences. (Trump voters)

Well I sat right through Trump's parade waiting for the good part. It never came. First up were historic vehicles similar to any historic military vehicle gathering in this country. Then they moved on to Sherman tanks from WW2. Various Army units marched (shuffled) - in their fatigues. They didn't even get dressed for it.
Some of the crews of the armoured vehicles smiled and waved to the modest crowd. The crowd was not large, perhaps Trump should have paid out some crypto to seat fillers.
Putin will have had a good laugh.

Most appropriate comment I have seen so far? "Whoever organised this parade has never seen a parade."

Judging by their bored expressions we can assume that the wives of the dignitaries will do their best to ensure there is no more of this silliness.

So I went over to fox to check out the other sides footage expecting to see something different. But OMG, Foxs footage also showed the same completely boring and uncompelling footage. The soldiers mostly looked like they did not want to be there and were just going through the motions. There were the usual maga desperadoes in the comments raving about it, but there was just no hiding the super low energy. I did not bother watching any of the no kings protest footage for comparison.

This has been a pattern. First go round he referred to "my generals". He also referred to 'my lawyers' and was taken aback when eventually told that the White House Counsel did not work for him but for the institution of the presidency, for the people, not the president. He had been discussing matters with the White House Counsel that he should not have.

Recently he has referred to "my army". That might seem quaint but it's actually dangerous.

As for the marching in his parade. US Army marching is always lame but one unit was particularly bad. The suggestion has been made that it was a form of protest.

The standard of drill reached by Guards regiments is extreme. This clip shows Legionaires in working kit similar to the troops in Trump's parade but the effect is just so much better.

That could only make sense if you were blissfully unaware that he had just visited troops and the troops on view were selected by their political views and their weight. There were to be no fat soldiers visible.

Now, I don't know about their Political Views - but in regards to their weight:

USMC has the Body Composition Standard (https://www.fitness.marines.mil/BCP_Standards/)

The Army has AR600-9 (https://www.army.mil/e2/downloads/rv7/r2/policydocs/r600_9.pdf)

I CBF checking Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force - but I feel reasonably certain that they will have similar regulations.

If there is a Parade and a service member was not adhering to the regulations on Uniform or Appearance - would they still be allowed to partake in the Parade?

That is a far simpler and reasonable explanation than a very stretched attempt to have a dig at Trump.

Do you know what other organization has a long and storied history about having Uniform Appearance, Standards, Physical Fitness etc?

In all seriousness - For the sake of a Hypothetical, Remove all traces of Trump from the equation.

A Military is doing a Parade.

Do they:

A) Pick the best people who conform to the standards who give off an Aura of Physical prowess, Battle readiness, Discipline etc. or
B) A bunch of scruffy and overweight Soldiers

Trying to argue that any Military would pick anything other than Option A is wild. Hell - There is videos from the likes of Senegal - where the Soldiers can barely march in step - yet all the people they picked still have the Aesthetic we would commonly associate with a Soldier.

You don't have to go to Senegal to find soldiers that can barely march in step. Marching in step was clearly beyond some of the soldiers in Trump's parade. Either that or it was a form of protest?
In fairness to the troops they had no music. A big parade in the west would normally have bands at intervals. In North Korea it seems to blast out over the PA system.

This morning YouTube thought I needed to see this. It covers Trump's visit to Fort Bragg which was the event I was referring to when I mentioned political views and weight because that had been reported. Trump has long controlled who sits behind him at rallies, or who sits in the front rows if they will appear on camera..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5uazGAS0Yg&t=1s

This also appeared on my screen. Not entirely relevant but... Drill such as that performed by Guards regiments requires an inordinate amount of time. Time that some would consider could be better spent.

The American video came off as just more Trump Bashing - however, I did enjoy the British one (shock!) - but it does raise a very good point. Even as a Trump fan - the snippets of the Parade (I haven't watched the whole thing) was a shambles. The closing line 'If you are going to do it, do it well'

Although one does wonder - perhaps it was intentional. If they marched properly - everyone would be making the comparison to NK or Russia - so Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.

Finally...

God I miss Field Gun.

It did, however, disprove your arguments entirely. The troops were selected by weight and their political views. Additionally they were not permitted to drink water. They were to be fully hydrated, which probably meant they were all bursting for a piss by the time it was over.

The American army never looks good marching, it's like they are into energy conservation, minimal movement of arms and legs. Trump's parade though was particularly bad at times. The person who said that whoever organised this parade had never seen one had a point.

Now - on the first point selected by Weight - absolutely, the Memo says "Are to be fit and not look fat" - again, I say that this is easily in line general Military Aesthetic.

Not drinking during official duties? Again, this is not uncommon - It was national news a few years ago when the then Queens Guard needed water whilst on-duty because of the British Heat wave.

But on selected based on Political position? Hold up... Let's just review exactly what was shown on the news article shall we?

If any soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak to their leadership to get swapped out. Basically they don't want soldiers in the audience rolling their eyes or shaking their heads in disagreement

That's quite a world away from what you lead us to believe. They were not 'selected' as in "Oh you are a Democrat, you can't sit behind Trump" it is: "If you don't want to be there or you are going to break Military Bearing - let us know and you don't have to go"

And I use the phrase 'Military Bearing' because there is a very long history of Soldiers not cracking a smile, laughing, looking away, being distracted etc. whilst in an official capacity.

So no - they were not selected on Political Views, they were asked if they can't maintain bearing, not to go. BIG difference.

The American army never looks good marching, it's like they are into energy conservation, minimal movement of arms and legs. Trump's parade though was particularly bad at times. The person who said that whoever organised this parade had never seen one had a point.

I dunno - the USMC silent drill teams are pretty damn impressive, Sentinels of the Tomb of the unknown warrior are fantastic.

Narcissistic trolling in internet forums typically involves individuals who use online spaces to feed their need for attention and validation while displaying classic narcissistic traits:
Common behaviours include:
Attention-seeking through provocative posts designed to generate maximum responses, even if negative. These users often derail conversations to make themselves the center of discussion. They frequently engage in grandiose self-promotion, claiming superior knowledge or experience while dismissing others' contributions.
Manipulation tactics are common - they may use emotional manipulation, play victim when confronted, or create drama between other users. They often lack genuine empathy for other forum members and view interactions as opportunities to demonstrate their perceived superiority.

Also the weapon fuses only when stops moving so it is possible to over penetrate like a battleship round going straight through a destroyer.

Well its clear you are not one of the experts
You have confused a Moab and a MOP
Moab is a massive ordnance air blast ie it Blast in mid air to maximize the damage over a large area
a MOP is a Massive Ordnance Penetrator ie (bunker buster)
ie a GBU-57 series MOP
The first versions of a MOP were created in the first desert war using howitzer barrels as a penerator.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJTq9yb_Zow

There has as far as I know one use of a MOAB (in Afghanistan) it was airdropped from a C130. in a narrow valley.

I actually thought the MOAb was potentially made out of a Navual barrel but alas no. Which is a shame.

They reveal that the weapon pictured was filled with around 4,590 pounds of AFX-757 and about 752 pounds of PBXN-114 for a total of around 5,342 pounds of high-explosive filler. The markings also note the total nominal weight of the MOP as being 27,125 pounds.

I will give two answers - the first is that it is not worse than Biden (not a high bar)

But the second: I have been somewhat disapointed here. Not so much on the Ukraine front - but more on what is happening with Iran.

It is giving me very much 2003/GWB/Iraq vibes - and I don't like it.

I am also not the only one who otherwise likes Trump but isn't happy about the current turn of events - on Polls where it is clearly for a Right-Wing audience, questions that used to get responses in the high 90%, when asked about Iran and the current events - I am seeing closer to 70-30.

With that in mind, what do you think of trumps "Big Beautiful Bill" adding trillions in national debt to largely pay for tax cuts for the rich?
And is adding national debt what republicans nauseatingly and insistently whined about all through the last 4 years?
From where I stand I can only see it being a big beautiful bill for the rich, and a big fucking ugly tax bill for the middle class to pay for years to come.
What say you?

Excuse the late reply.

Rich people generally don’t pay tax or they significantly minimise it anyway. They pay interest and/or run at a loss etc. So I don’t see much changing with this bill.

If anything they may actually end up paying MORE tax because the reduction has brought it closer to compete with the skyrocketing interest rates.

And the time and effort for writing off etc vs reward ratio has now reduced, rich humans value their time, they may end up paying the government instead of the banks.

What I’m getting at is it’s the middle class who benefit the most - justifiable in my eyes.

Israel is reported to have at least 80 nuclear weapons , which it consistently denies. If Iran did in fact develop even one, they would know that the country would be turned to glass if ever it was used, so why would they even bother? Triggernometry channel has done some great interviews on this recently with experts about how we don’t understand Iran or Russia and we keep making mistake of applying our way of thinking to their cultures.

On a side note the whole nucluer thing is more about restricting access to cheap energy. If the nutters in North Korea have t nuked anyone then we can pretty much trust anyone else with them. Restrictions on nucluer materials are about restriction to cheap energy.

Heyya, thanks for the answer.
Your words go against every reputable economists analyses on the subject.
It will add more than 2 trillion to their national debt, and the payback is coming out of middle class income earners pockets.

Your claim makes zero sense especially as the tech for reactors was freely shared by French and the USA.
Atoms for peace......
They only restrict the tech for the fuel and the enriching of fuel to in order to try to restrict nuclear weapons proliferation.

Also claiming anything based on the thus far non use by North Korea makes no sense especially as North Korea has lacked a long range delivery system.

North Korea is also more a threat and is it seems more afraid of its its own citizens.

Presidents are forbidden to conduct business, it's in the Constitution.

Does it?

I think you are referring to:

Article II, Section 1, Clause 7:

The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be encreased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.

or

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8:

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

This has a good breakdown of it (https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/artI-S9-C8-3/ALDE_00013206/)

TL;DR - No, the Constitution doesn't say that. This was a view that lower courts adopted and was subsequently overruled

Something I have noticed that I find interesting on this subject.

Now - for the record, I have no particularly strong feelings on the Epstein Case, the list etc. but there are many that do.

There are many popular Right-wing commentary sites (not just small/niche ones) that have been excoriating the Trump administration over this.

"That is not particularly interesting" I hear you say.

Well, the interesting part is the comparison to Left-Wing commentary sites when Biden the president - the amount of Wagon Circling from the Left vs the amount of disagreement happening within the Right.

I mean - the highest profile instance atm is Elon.

Why do I raise this - well, people often accuse the Right/MAGA of being a Cult - and yet, there is more open disagreement about Policy happening publicly (with all the replete mud slinging) than I have ever seen from the Left.

Now, I will grant, there are Fringe left-wing commentators whose entire spiel could be summed up as 'We aren't in a Cashless, Stateless, Classless society (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_society)' - but amongst the main Left-wing commentary, there is not the amount of spirited disagreement that I have seen.

I find this comparison interesting.

The cult believes in the scenario that had Hillary Clinton indulging in child sex and cannibalism in a basement under a pizza place They have continuously been sold fantasies of Democrats committing child sex crimes and they were expecting the Epstein list, or his 'home movies', to feature many Democrat politicians. Trump and Epstein were besties for fifteen years and Trump will surely star in any records. Most Democrat supporters that I've seen comment have said that anybody listed should be prosecuted regardless of party.

Spirited disagreement? Perhaps not. Some seventy million people voted for a criminal conman who got elected because ninety million people thought Kamala Harris was not quite good enough to be president and didn't vote at all.

With all the money in Washington politics you can bet it’s not just politicians that might be on that list. Will be interesting to see what happens. Trump in 2023

NEW YORK (AP) — As his supporters erupt over the Justice Department’s failure to release much-hyped records in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking investigation, President Donald Trump’s strategy has been to downplay the issue.
The political crisis is especially challenging for Trump because it’s one of his own making. The president has spent years stoking dark theories and embracing QAnon-tinged propaganda that casts him as the only savior who can demolish the “deep state."

Now that he's running the federal government, the community he helped build is coming back to haunt him. It's demanding answers he either isn’t able to or doesn't want to provide.“I don't understand what the interest or what the fascination is,” Trump told reporters Tuesday.

Last week, Trump quickly defended Attorney General Pam Bondi and chided a reporter for daring to ask about the documents.

The online reaction was swift, with followers calling the Republican president “out of touch” and demanding transparency.

“I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody.” Trump said.

Over the weekend, Trump used his Truth Social platform to attempt to call supporters off the Epstein trail amid reports of infighting between Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino over the issue. He suggested the turmoil was undermining his administration — “all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein.”

Asked Tuesday whether Bondi had told him his name was in the Epstein files, Trump said no. He praised her handling of the case and said she should release “whatever she thinks is credible." But he also claimed there were credibility issues with the documents, suggesting without citing evidence they were “made up” by former FBI Director James Comey and former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, both Democrats. Bondi declined to discuss the Epstein files Tuesday during a press briefing about drug trafficking.

“The faulty assumption Trump and others make is they can peddle conspiracy theories without any blowback,” said Matt Dallek, a political scientist at George Washington University. “The Epstein case is a neat encapsulation that it is hard to put the genie back in the bottle.”

A problem that’s not going away
Last week’s two-page statement from the Justice Department and the FBI saying they had concluded Epstein didn't possess a client list roiled Trump’s supporters, who pointed to past statements from several administration officials that the list ought to be revealed.

Bondi had suggested in February such a document was sitting on her desk waiting for review.
Conservative influencers have since demanded to see all the files related to Epstein’s crimes, even as Trump has tried to put the issue to bed.

That seems counter intuitive. If she's on the staff they can control her to an extent. As a free agent she can talk.

Update: I don't realise it at the time but it is mentioned. The lawyer in question is Maureen Comey, daughter of James Comey, former head of the FBI. Trump has instructed the DoJ to investigate James Comey. Not in the expectation of finding anything but just to bugger him about and cause him to spend potentially large sums on lawyers.

Currently many DoJ lawyers are resigning. Nobody wants to defend Trump. Representing Trump in court usually proves expensive for his legal counsel. It definitely doesn't eanhance career prospects.

It would appear that trump has ordered the release of the epstein evidence curiously from the point of view it is specifically the grand jury evidence. Well, curious no more. I will let Brian and Glen explain that particular evidence will never be released due to special protections grand jury evidence gets, but allows trump to say "but I tried".

The dems should be shouting this from every vantage point - watch them fail to do so miserably because they are an incompetent rabble of halfwits.

And if course, under the heading of "Not suspicious at all" Trump orders 1000 FBI agents to scrub his name from the epstein files.

The people at Paramount apparently thought that if you give the school bully your lunch money he'll go away and never bother you again. When Trump sued them in a bullshit case they settled for $16 million. Paramount need government approval for a proposed merger so evidently they figured the $16 million was just a business expense. If you give your lunch money to the school bully he doesn't go away he comes back. CBS have announced the end of the Stephen Colbert late night show. The business expenses are rising. Colbert will be fine, he probably never needs to work another day in his life. The writers and producers though, not so much.

Obama didn't like Fox, with good reason. He never tried to control their content though. This latest Trump move is not very authoritarian. Much.

Yeah not sure I’d agree this is politically motivated, although pleasing the President might be seen as a bonus, it’s hard to see much of a future in existing linear television formats. Plus Colbert’s salary is bound to represent a significant saving all by itself, he’ll probably end up with a podcast on Youtube. Hopefully the staff haven’t spent a lifetime learning and developing skills which AI can easily mimic…oh wait.

I know it’s small beer by comparison, but Stuff recently stopped publishing 15 Community Newspapers in Auckland, which makes me sad also. The world is moving on and frankly I’m not so sure I want to go with it.

But when you consider what else is at stake.

But Shari Redstone, the chair and controlling shareholder of Paramount, told her board that she favored exploring a settlement with Mr. Trump. Some executives at the company viewed the president’s lawsuit as a potential hurdle to completing a multibillion-dollar sale of the company to the Hollywood studio Skydance, which requires the Trump administration’s approval.
https://www.nbcnews.com/business/media/david-ellison-fcc-chairman-paramount-deal-cbs-rcna219687

David Ellison, Skydance’s CEO, met with Federal Communications Chairman Brendan Carr to seek approval for his firm’s long-in-the-making merger with Paramount, according to a letter from a Skydance lawyer included in a federal filing. The transaction has roiled Paramount subsidiary CBS News and its longtime crown jewel, “60 Minutes,” amid fights over its editorial independence. Ellison is the son of tech billionaire Larry Ellison, a major supporter of President Donald Trump.

How Trump could repeat a previous presidents move to tackle debt that would really screw us over in NZ.

What if I told you that the US government has a secret plan to revalue gold at $15,000 an ounce and it will wipe out the current year's deficit and reduce the US government debt and it won't cost you a single penny.
We're talking about a potential revaluation of the US government's gold holdings from the statutory price of $42 to $15,000 an ounce
. Today, I'm going to break down how this could happen, who gets rich, why the whispers about this plan are getting louder in the highest circles of power, and how you can know when it's about to happen and prepare yourself.Let's start with a simple fact.
The United States government owns a lot of gold. It's about 261 12 million ounces to be exact. But here's the crazy part. On the official books of the government, this gold is valued at just $42 an ounce. That's the statutory price of gold set in 1972. The gold thus has a book value of only 11 billion US. But at today's market price of about $3,300, that same gold is actually worth over $862 billion. And if gold were to be revalued to $15,000 an ounce, that gold would be worth over four or nearly $4 trillion.
But let's go back in history a little bit. Where did this gold come from in the first place? Currently, it's held by the US Treasury, which is a branch of the US government. But it wasn't always theirs. Back in 1934, in the middle of the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Gold Reserve Act. This law forced the Federal Reserve, who held the gold, to hand over all of its physical gold to the US Treasury. And in return, the Federal Reserve got a piece of paper, an IOU called a gold certificate. If you look at the Fed's balance sheet today, it's the very first asset listed on the balance sheet. It's called gold certificate account and it's valued at that same $11 billion. But it's just an accounting receipt. It's not a claim to get their gold back ever
. The Federal Reserve cannot and may not convert that certificate into gold. And it's and it has no right to ask for redemption of the certificate. So the only way it can be redeemed is if the Treasury so decides and if they redeem it, they'll redeem it at the statutory price of gold, i.e. at $4222 an ounce, uh, which is 11 billion. So that gold certificate is on the books as 11 billion. It's only worth 11 billion and it never will be worth anymore and it can't even be cashed in, at least not at the holders be behest. So we go back to 1934. All that gold was transferred from the Federal Reserve to the Treasury as a result of the Gold Reserve Act.
But Roosevelt wasn't done on that day. The next day, he devalued the US dollar by over 40%. He did this by changing the official price of gold from $20.67 an ounce to $35 an ounce. Or more precisely, as it was worded um in his proclamation, he reduced the gold weight of the dollar from 25.8 8 grains of gold, 9/10 fine, to 15.715 grains of gold, 9/10 fine. Obviously, we know it today as an increase in the price of gold from 20 to to $35. Now, this move, this genius move at the time created a 2.8 billion paper profit out of thin air. And Roosevelt made absolutely sure that that profit went straight to the Treasury, not to the Fed. He said, and I quote, "We believe that all profits should revert to the Treasury of the United States for the benefit of the country as a whole." And with that, the Fed was left with a bit of paper and nothing more. Obviously, their real gold was now gone.
The move shocked bankers in London, Paris, and Zurich. The mighty US dollar that they held had suddenly lost 41% of its value overnight. Foreign bankers saw it as an aggressive, unfair trade tactic. It was a clear signal that the old rules of money no longer applied. So why am I talking about something which happened 90 years ago? Because today the USA is facing a similar crisis. The national debt is spiraling out of control. The interest payments alone are becoming one of the biggest expenses of the entire federal budget. and worse is to come. The government has to refinance about 9 trillion of its debt over the next four years. That's roughly one/ird of its debt. This debt was issued when interest rates were low about 1 and a.5% to 2%. Today, interest rates or yields on bonds are closer to 5%. That refinancing cost, which is coming over the next few years, is going to cause the government's interest costs to explode. Something has to be done. And that's where the 1934 playbook comes into focus. The idea gaining traction is to repeat Roosevelt's move, but on a much grander scale. A revaluation of gold to $15,000 would generate $3.9 trillion of windfall for the Treasury. It would wipe out the entire budget deficit for 2025 or 2026 when they do it. and it would allow the government to pay down a huge chunk of the national debt. So, how would this work technically? Because it's a kind of monetary slight of hand, but it can be done in four simple steps which I'm going to outline and I'm not asking for any Nobel Prize for explaining this. First, the Treasury would buy back the gold certificates held by the Fed, paying the value, $11 billion. Secondly, the president would issue an order raising the official statutory price of gold to $15,000 an ounce. Thirdly, the Treasury now sell all of its gold to the Federal Reserve at the new price, the new statutory price, receiving in exchange $3.9 trillion of newly created digital cash. And finally, the government would repeat the 1934 trick, which is to pass a new law, forcing the Federal Reserve to hand over that gold back to the Treasury in exchange for, you've guessed it, another gold certificate. The end result, the Treasuryy's got its gold back. Plus, it's got $3.9 trillion in cash created out of thin air. $3.9 trillion in cash created out of thin air by the Fed. And since the gold certificates aren't counted as government debt, the national debt could be drastically reduced. And of course in the current year there would be a huge profit made by the Treasury uh resulting in a budget surplus instead of the huge deficit that everyone's expecting. So who wins in this scenario and who loses? Well, the biggest winner by far is the US government. But the other beneficiaries would be anyone who owns gold or anything related to gold such as gold mining stocks. Central banks in countries like Russia and China would see their assets sore. Individuals who own gold coins or bars would see their wealth multiply. And of course, gold mining companies would become incredibly profitable overnight. Now, probably you're thinking this just benefits the rich and at first you're absolutely right. I mean, let's consider Scott Bessant. He's the Secretary to the Treasury, one of the most important positions in the country. He has a say in what will happen. But before he was secretary of the treasure treasury, he was the founder of a major hedge fund called Keys Square Group, which had exposure to gold mining stocks. And before that, uh, he was part of George Soros's team, the man who broke the Bank of England by betting against the pound. So taking big bets is something that he will know all about. Now whilst he's probably divested himself of these private interests probably as a requirement of becoming uh taking office uh of as secretary of the treasury. His public statements are what are most interesting and this is where I get the information to say that remonetization of gold probably at $15,000 is under consideration as I speak. So what Scott Bessett has said, he has talked about the need to monetize and I using words he used monetize the asset side of the US balance sheet. Now if you're a financial insider, you know that's a clear code phrase for revaluing gold. Whilst he didn't use the exact phrase revalue gold in the context of the US balance sheet, the single most undervalued and readily monetizable asset on the balance sheet is the nation's gold reserve. It's crystal clear that when he says monetize the treasury's assets, he must be talking about gold. There is nothing else that can be monetized. about an insider. And perhaps today we have insiders who will be finding a way to secretly trade on the back of information they know is coming and you don't. And that's why I think before we have this move to $15,000 gold, you'll see the price moving up rapidly. you'll see the dollar moving down rapidly and that will be your warning sign that it's imminent. So, will gold be revalued to $15,000? We don't have any official confirmation of that, at least not yet. It could be more. It could be less. I think that would be a sensible price to move it to. All we know is that Scott Bessant has advocated monetizing the Treasury's balance sheet. And as far as I can see, the only asset and the obvious asset which could be monetized is the gold. So the only questions I've got are when and at what price. I think $15,000 makes sense, but maybe he'll pick another one. We'll see. If we have such a revaluation, it will send shock waves through the global economy. It could trigger a massive surge in the prices of other assets like stocks or Bitcoin as trillions of dollars of that new wealth in gold looks for a home.

Not quite the same wall of text as R666 but I'm getting there.

“I watched in disbelief as businessmen voted for a repeat bankrupt, laborers for a boss infamous for stiffing his workers, evangelicals for a serial adulterer, women for an admitted sexual assaulter, patriots for a draft dodger who would sell his country’s secrets for trivial gain, educated men for an ignoramus. But they did so with fierce gladness in their hearts. Because what their chosen one had done was open Pandora’s box—yes, the old one, filled with the ancient calamities of race hatred and rage and cruelty and bloodlust and infinite greed—and tell them that these things were the remedy for all their grievances, that all their anger was justified, and most important: None of what ailed them was their own fault—or ever had been.”
― Greg Iles, Southern Man

and another , although his prediction was out - just hope it doesn't go all the way

“My vision. In 2027, Israel’s leader will become convinced that Iran is fielding its nuclear arsenal. Israel will ask us to destroy that arsenal for them, using our submarines and ASW aircraft. If we refuse, Israel will attempt to do it alone. There our scenario becomes a true three-body problem. China—wishing to be seen as taking the moral high ground—announces that if we attack Iran, it will seize and hold Taiwan, arguing that Iran has just as much right to self-defense as the Israelis. At that point, the best predictions of our experts are that, if we fulfill the Israelis’ wish, we will set ourselves on the road to global nuclear war. At the very least, the U.S. president will have to disappoint our closest ally and religious cousin in the Middle East—Israel—while at worst, we might actually have to attack Israel to prevent them initiating Armageddon out of paranoia.”

Was listening to a US media commentator. He was discussing the ending of Colbert's contract. He didn't think it was entirely motivated by Trump's desire for vengeance. Although he did think that might well be a factor. The various US late shows are competing for the under 40s market but the viewer numbers are way down. The under 40s don't watch as much TV these days. That Colbert is payed some US$15 million pa to perform for a diminishing audience is likely also a factor.

Next year when Colbert finishes, the other shows may get a temporary boost from a share of his audience numbers but long term the situation is likely to deteriorate.

Trump's official residence is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC. The WSJ address is presumably in New York. All of which would suggest the case be heard in DC or NY. Blanche was Trump's defence lawyer in the New York fraud trial which resulted in 34 fraud convictions for Trump. As such lawyer/client privilege existed between Trump and Blanche - and still does. It's permanent. Blanche who has that legal relationship with Trump should not be speaking with Maxwell about the Epstein case under any circumstances. That comprises a major conflict of interest since she could say something that implicates trump.

Trump has never been one to worry about ethics. It seems that Blanche isn't much bothered either.

Multimillionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein will receive a bail decision on Thursday over allegations that he sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls. Dershowitz helped negotiate the sweetheart plea deal that allowed him a work release provision throughout his 13 months in Palm Beach County Jail.

Epstein accusers Sarah Ransome, Maria Farmer and Virginia Giuffre have also leveled allegations against Dershowitz in court filings and defamation lawsuits. Dershowitz denies the accusations.

He wants Obama done for treason (ridiculous), he wants Kamala, Beyonce and Opara done for election fraud and he wants tv pundit Al Shipton done as well. I'm sure the fact that they are all black is purely a coincidence as our resident trump apologist swears trump is not racist

It is a similar theme with the list of countries whose citizens are barred entry to the WSA, opps I mean USA. Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela and that hot bed of crime - Tonga
Once again, the fact that none these countries are full of white people is just another coincidence from the orange cockwomble.

The orange vomit bag has admitted that epstein stole his staff consisting of underage girls from trumps maralargo "spa" .

Trump is planning to build a $200 million ball room at the White House. Another monument to tastelessness. During his first sojourn in the White House Melania (remember her?) had tennis courts and a pavillion constructed. Melania also had Jackie Kennedy's rose garden removed and replaced it with something more appropriate to a funeral home. Last photo I saw made it look as if the site of the former rose garden was disappearing under cement. Maybe that's where the ball room is to be built?

Economists and others have been questioning the statistics provided by the US government. The data does not seem to match what is happening in reality and the presumption is that the figures are being 'massaged'.

In case anyone doubts that could happen, the latest job numbers are disappointing and in response Trump has just fired the person in charge of labour statistics. I guess the numbers will be more cheerful in future.

Oh, and it's reported that Ghislaine Maxwell is not currently in prison. She would be well advised to avoid stairs.

Update: Maxwell is still in prison, a different prison. A "Club Fed" prison with tennis courts and a putting green? Whatever, it's the cozyest prison possible for a woman in the US.
There may be people who think this is all entirely coincidental and that a deal hasn't been done. Those people are worthy of your sympathy.

As our Trade Minister packs his bags to head to the US to talk a trade deal I hope he realises that these deals are not "deals" in the usual sense of the word. They are subject to change on a Trump whim. Brazil are prosecuting a former leader for fomenting an insurrection. Trump is uncomfortable with former leaders being prosecuted for fomenting insurrection so he increased tariffs on goods originating in Brazil to 50%.

The US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick (Nutlick?) says that the US will not now be able to have a trade deal with Canada because the Canadian Government has recognised Palestine. It'll be interesting to see whether this US stance alters NZs position on Palestine. We currently support recognition.

Trump is using tariffs to achieve political ends. Of course if we give Trump a gift of say half a billion US dollars, which seems to be the going rate, the path to lower tariffs may be smoothed.

The current US tariff system is legally doubtful, the power to set tariffs resides with Congress not the president. Currently the challenges are working their way up through the courts, with this Supreme Court though anything is possible.

Well he seems so legit... but but hunter biden...

On May 27, 2025, TMTG announced it would create a "bitcoin Treasury" by selling company stock and convertible bonds and buying $2.5 billion of bitcoin. If TMTG's purchase were to go through, TMTG would become the third-largest corporate holder of bitcoin. Two months earlier, Trump had signed an executive order for the United States to create a strategic bitcoin reserve.

The Guardian reported in March 2023 that in 2022 the SDNY expanded its criminal investigation to include whether TMTG engaged in money laundering. Beginning in December 2021, when the company was in danger of collapsing because its merger with DWAC had been delayed, it received a loan in two payments totaling $8 million. This included $2 million from Paxum Bank, which is part-owned by Anton Postolnikov, a relation of Aleksandr Smirnov, a former Russian government official who now runs the Russian maritime company Rosmorport.

In February 2024, United Atlantic Ventures (UAV), the partnership of TMTG co-founders Andy Litinsky and Wes Moss, sued TMTG for attempting to dilute their ownership stake by increasing the authorized stock from 120 million to 1 billion shares, thus lowering the value of UAV's shares from 8.6 percent to less than 1 percent. The lawsuit mentions that Trump attempted to pressure Litinsky into giving his shares to Melania Trump and then, when he refused, tried to oust Litinsky. The next day, Arc Capital sued the DWAC for trying to strip them of their shares. The judge granted summary judgment to Atlantic Ventures LLC

A few years back there was a storm in a tea cup when it was discovered that then Congressman Nunes had listed his occupation as farmer. He had no farm. One dude on Twitter started an account "Devin Nunes' Cow." Nunes wanted to sue him sooo bad. He tried defamation actions against Twitter and the "cow." He lost both.

He also tried to sue the account known as "Devin Nunes Mum." She had said the Devin would have liked to join the Proud Boys but he didn't like their no masturbation rule. He lost that one too.

Your'e so full of crap....

Well we all should have seen this coming...

While western media has championed international mercenaries going to fight for Ukraine it seems Russia is going to play that card too... we all know what they will be called...
Quite ironic that western security will be threatened by a mechanism they helped build....
The resulting lawless bloodbath will prob see Russia welcomed in as peacekeepers...
After all this blows over Eastern Europe will end up as a haven for unemployed terrorists like Afghanistan.... maybe Putin has done his homework after all...4Dchess????
The plot thickens....

Many people don't understand the Russian military doctrine. They are very smart and don't play the same gameplan as the west.

is all about defence, they have seen the economic and military disaster that the Americans have created for themselves, heaps of expensive overseas bases with resupply issues.

will never invade anyone, they will provide very rapid support for chosen allies in a massive no nonsense manner.
They have spent over 400 billion in last ten years modernising their armed forces. Stories of decay are same propaganda plants as the ones about usa F35 being a lemon etc.....
Watch ISIS turn and run, no CIA paycheck is big enough for them to face the Russian war machine, they will quickly fall apart with out American resupply. Guess they'll be a whole lot of Toyota hilux's going cheap soon....

That was a fairly massive demolition job. I particularly like this,
"Many people don't understand the Russian military doctrine. They are very smart and don't play the same gameplan as the west."

Many people do understand Russian military doctrine and how mistaken it is. Ukraine understood and ditched the Russian system for the system used by the west. In Russia a general issues the orders and nobody can change that order. If the situation changes and the plan isn't working the general has to go right to where the action is to see for himself before he changes his plan. Right to where a sniper can see him. Which explains the high casualty rate among Russian generals in Ukraine in the early days of the war. In the west leaders at all levels are taught to adapt to changing circumstances.

Anyhoo we can all see how smart the Russians are with over a million casualties and counting. With that and an economy on the brink there are a lot of unhappy Russians who would be happy to see major change.
