Come over and have a cuppa with us at 5.30 and get the old Mooo outa bed. She is like a turtle in the mornings. Stays close to the ground and takes time to warm up.

New tyre on the R1 so i have to do a few miles b4 the Sunday. May have to ride it up to the half way house Taupo rd to get rid of the chicken stips. And meet the family there and put it back on the trailer.

So what happened to the rubber I saw on Monday? That tyre looked good to me. I might have to get your old tyres and wear them out for you.

Guess what.......I checked the forcast yesterday morning about 11 and didn't like the look of todays rain so I pulled the plug and sneaked down after lunch yesterday. The w/shop guys down at Anza are awesome:first: Thanks Stu...as always, top service..... second to none.Just turn up and even though the w/shop was full, they wheeled in a spare lift-table and fitted my new tire straight away. Got a bigger one this time....hopefully might get a few more Ks out of it;) certainly feels more planted than the previous type...even being new.Man, it sure was windy though...going through the gorge, nearly got blown off the bike a couple of times, sure glad I was astride a half ton of iron then mate  And yes I went for a test ride.....tell ya bout it when I see ya. Wont mention what here.....peeps might think I've turned gay or sumfing:crazy: Pleased I went yesterday when I looked out the window the morning. What ya up to today? is it raining up your way....hope to catch you later. cheers for now W

Rode good. Te Pohue to Bay View. Didn't get to play really but had a blast. Real smooth, had trouble keeping it at a steady 60mph though.

And yeh, one weekend we should go cruising on the next generation's bikes.

Well Rob Cindy takes some good photos, I took my camera and never took any stills, have a few video clips of Rob, John and me but just working on how I do the transfer got to do it from me lap top.
By the way it was an awesome day best bit of fun Ive had in a while, Meeke would have seen me smoke it up down the back straight I think there was a 30 meter skid mark at the end of the back straight when I locked up:niceone: got a bit worried. Certainly the right group for me slow and I dont no whare they get the slow I shot round heaps quicker this time, the old ace was a bit heavy 600 is nice and light. Again thanks guys you made it heaps good.

What a great day it was in Taupo on Sunday...... Oh yes........ Great to have such good company for the day. Go the Hawkes Bay KBers. Many thanks to BigG for the link to get the old Gixxer back on the track. Very lucky young man I recon. It could have ended in tears if the chain had not left the bike as cleanly as it did. I recon Speights_bud had a ball but learnt heaps. What a great day it was for him. Many of you won't know that as Speight_Bud sat in the car park waiting for Meekey to get ready to leave the Gixxer stopped dead. No power at all. I trailered it home and pulled it to bits yesterday. it has blown the main fuse. I know this sounds dum but it appears we lost a head light buld filament and the filament stems had touched and they are drawing a lota current and blowing the main fuse. I have disconnected that light and all is well. Strange but maybe that's why I don't do wheelies boyo.

BigG, MSTRS and Rob had a ball. You guys ride so well. So good to have people to cheer for.
Better than the old Ace aye G? Was great to have Meekey out in the field to keep a watch on the locals. Well done girl.
Thanks for the rubber Rob and so nice to meet Cindy and your boy. He was not going to leave Dads tyre with that strang man. Well done that boy.

Thanks for all the company to everyone that spent time with us. We had to stay ready to pick up bikes but it was good to have company at pit lane.

Big thanks to Tony for the day and all the marshals. Better go back to work. Took this long to post this cos SP has been home and on the computer at night longer than I can stay up. I hate being old.

Thanks W&D. You know why............. Cheers

Got the bits but SP is in town and the bike is here so it takes time. :argh: Hope to get it going this weekend and run it. I did note the front off the ground but it was a lot less scary than the ragged rear wheel lock ups with the front chattering in the first session. The road tyres just could not take the heat. I did see a very close dismount at one stage and it was only the fear of dropping Dads bike that kept him on. Still a great day aye. How did you like the ride home? Mooo loved the seat on the HD but found the ride very different to the Gixxer.

yungatart
30th October 2007, 19:14
It is very different to the Gixxer.
I guess I was spoiled with the 1100, because I just felt planted on her pillion seat, on the 750 I have never felt as relaxed or safe. I tend to slide around a fair bit, lose my feet off the pegs, etc not too mention , being buffeteed around by wind. prolly different for Moo as there is a bit of size difference between you and Mstrs..I mean height and weight, you lot!!
Anyway, I kind of have to work quite hard at pillioning on the gixxer, it is certainly not, sit back and relax stuff. Now Wasps Harley, well, you get that steady throaty burble from the pipes, the seat is sooooo comfy and there is not a huge amount of room between W's back and the back of the pillion seat. It was a wonderful, relaxing ride. I bloody near went to sleep along the plains, in fact I might have just caught a few zzzzz's anyway, either that or there was two cops incredibly close together!
I loved it TBH, and had enough energy left to perform some wifely duties when we got home....you know, ironing and that kind of thing!:innocent:

in summary, given the choice of the Harley or the Gixxer to pillion, no contest! Harley wins hands down!!

I have come to the conclusion that one should not ride a bike quite so hard on tires that are not up to track abuse, directly related to the Rg incident last weekend and one of many factors on sunday  Anywho... sunday was awsome, still got a whole heap to improve on, carrying more gas through corners instead of buttoning on then off again etc, the long left hander after turn 6 throught the A1 corner could be faster, and jeepers scary! apart from the usual braking late etc and stuff assosiated with track riding the strangest feeling was braking and turning at the same time into the back sweeper before the long straight, it's quite odd tipping in with the back wheel off the ground! I'm curious as to what speed would be carried into there, bit i'd imagine around the 150ish through the straight/kink after A1 at a guess?? i have no idea really.

Hope you all have a good week :)

I'm curious as to what speed would be carried into there, bit i'd imagine around the 150ish through the straight/kink after A1 at a guess?? i have no idea really.

Hope you all have a good week :)

Ive got some on board video of a 600 doing 184 going past the old pits. And that wasnt using the A1 corner but the old part of the track

Experienced the sportsbike swarm last night from a vehicle driver's viewpoint.
Was near home at Maraekakaho with a few cars on the road about 6ish on the way from work.
Saw fast approaching bike lights behind me. Next thing about 6 bikes swooped on us. It was the guys that ride on Thursdays, I recognised 2 of the bikes. They flew past us after sitting up our arses.
Great stuff for them.
But to the two guys who passed me on a double yellow on a bend with oncoming cars close...........you're fuckwits.
Enjoy your short life huh.

I can now see how someone might be unnerved by large loud bikes cutting across and flying in between them.

I have a set of front disks here from a TL. I had them on my other gixxer. One is bent but the other should be ok. You would need to get them tested to make sure they are straight. I am sure 5 star could test them for you and if one is ok you can have it. Let me know what you want to do.

Any consolation John I bent one on the track. Not on this bike but the red one. We can test the ones on your Gixxer by lifting the front and testing for run out. If you want. I hope to get this Gixxer going today and come in as I have a call to make then I could come around and have a look at your bike. You home today?

Yes, I agree. IMHO.. 'For this campaign to have any lasting effect we need support from the general public'

IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT THOSE RIDERS PARTICIPATING IN THIS OR ANY FUTURE PROTEST RIDES BEHAVE THEMSELVES AND RIDE SAFE!!!!!!!

A lot of people have put a lot of effort into this campaign to ensure it's success....unfortunately, as we all know it will only take the actions of one to destroy any credibility already established. This campaign will be ongoing and I hope as many riders as possible will be able to attend the Taupo event scheduled to coincide with a Government conference there. (I think its on Tuesday/Wednesday 4th & 5th Dec)

What a great day. Great work Cola and the speech was awesome and all the others that worked so hard to make this happen. Fantastic and roll on Taupo.
Well spoken Tart. You rock girl. To many to thanks but not having the barriers here has made us complacent. Riding among them today made me realise just how dangerous they are. Gota change the law and they gota go.

The hail storm was somthin else on the way home. Hail the size of big peas. No shit they actually stung the skin through the jacket and froze da boy bits as it socked in to the leathers. Thunder and lightning and all.

K time for ZZZZZs but thanks to W&D for the breaky. It set us up for the day. You are great you two. I recon the Bay Has some special people and I for one am honoured to know some of you. Ten points for the day.

Well done Janet for the words to the large crowd and to Col for your words and organizing everything. Even our lunch. Was good to chill out before our ride home.
Be fear to say that everyone couldnt wait to get home. I was the same as my bum wasnt feeling the same as when we left at 6 am. Damm shame that we had to ride thru one hell of a storm. Couldnt believe the hail, and the lightning. Still i thought that it wont last long and we would come out of it. Just about needed a boat thou.
But thats what we do. Thanks for the day guys and gals.

Well, Its hard to describe the feeling of being involved in such an event....It was a joy and an absolute privilege to support such a worthwhile cause and indeed such an awesome bunch of people. To you Col, and your team please accept our heartfelt thanks and admiration for your efforts in organising such a successful event....special mention should go to Nasty and Simon who organised and directed 'The Sandbar' group...you certainly contributed to what turned out to be a very memorable day for us. To you Janet...we're just so proud to say that your ours...in fact I can honestly say that about the whole KB mob:love: and also to you John (NZSarge)thanks for joining our ride..... As the big guy(G4E) mentioned...It really bought this issue home for us when we had to ride down those roads already equipped with these deadly barriers.....that's some scary shit. My fear is that riders that have to run that gauntlet every day will (heaven forbid) become complacent as to just how horrific these devices are:shit: I'm struggling to imagine the type of people that would install these barriers in the first place. We simply cannot let this die.....support this most worthwhile campaign, join the next protest ride in Taupo. To all those wonderful people that gave up their day and made the effort....it was a privilege to ride with you... Cheers W & D

Yeah! It was fantastic!
I had placed myself at the back of the bunch heading into Welly, what a sight...bikes as far as the eye could see, just stunning!
Col did a fantastic job of organising and delegating, for sure. Col, you may be a big kid and a party animal, but you have proved you can put in the hard yards.
The ride home was fun...my shoulder was so sore by the time I got to Dannevirke, I was on the verge of tears..(I know, HTFU) but had a good break in the servo there, got advised not to go HW 50, so headed off up 2.
It got blacker and blacker and balcker. The lightening was sure impressive tho, but I do wonder at the wisdom of riding along with a flagpole sticking up in that weather. Neither Zac or I had wets so we were cold, wet and tired when we finally got home.
I am no longer in the Wimpy Club after riding in that. I reckon I have graduated to real biker stuff now!

Last one to post a report....
Great ride down on Sat. A brilliant evening at Nasty & Grub's. Thanks for cooking Col, you are truly a man of many talents. A special thanks to The Clivoris's for their superb hospitality. The gathering at The Sandbar to begin our ride...great to be at the front bearing one of the flags. I got some video, but none of the ride itself unfortunately. Then Parliament - what can I say. It was truly a special thing to be so involved with all the passion against these evil things. And didn't YT do well - she is one special lady. The lunch in the park was lovely and an excellent time to just chill and reflect on the day. Thanks Col for that. The ride home was another thing altogether...We've ridden in rain before but that wasn't rain!!! Fuck those drops hurt, wasn't surprised to learn it was hail. Then the roadworks at Otane....
But home safe and all was right with the world.
Taupo next...we will not stop until the problem of cheesecutters is satisfactorily resolved.
Lastly, a big thanks to all you lot who made the effort. Give yourselves a cheer...

Nice to see you have settled in. Manage to empty da old Van? How did it run?
I hear you like R1's. Think I would to but don't tell da dog.

I'm sure someone will lend me a bike :sunny: if not, the Rg is still road legal, and it does need a few quiet trips to taupo to run it in from what W said.

I'm off sometime in the near future to meet up with Matt to give him his junk, although i needed his fan last night, coz the dryer right next to my room and it blows the hot air inside the house/hallway :weird: so the room was pretty hot, and the windows that open are pretty small. The van ran ok on the way up though, no problems :)

As for the Riding of R1's, yes very nice and smooth, doesn't have the crack the GSXR has with the headers/pipe/tuning etc, i found it was much more mellow in terms of cracking the throttle open, may have been the traction control system? i'm not sure if they run them or not but i have heard some of the litre bikes do. I do however like my license, and when you look down to find that what you thought was just 'cruising' at 100 turns out to be 2/3 that ontop again i can see how it'd be very easy for one to lose the bike and paperwork. But all in all a very nice ride. they even have a superbright white LED on the dash that blinds you at night when it's time to upshift! Therefore it should be duely noted that i will be requiring a worked R1 to ride in order to make sure i have a fair comparison to the GSXR

I guess this also means i need a 'relativley' stock 1999 GSXR SRAD for the testing of? Eh MSTRS?
