Anyone want to ride with me down to Dannevirke and meet, for the big ride tommorrow with the Palmy/Well crew back up this way?
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=66240
Oh, and BigG, if you want a ride..........I'm on the Duc, so the Triumph's free tommorrow.
Hi
I am heading down that way, leaving Napier at 8am for a 10am start in Woodville, of course we ride regardless of weather :laugh:
I guess us adventure types prefer the "dirtier the better"
What time will you leave if you are heading down?
Cheers Scott

Waiting to hear back from Rob, but guessing about 9.15ish, dunno yet, got a few bits to do round the property before I leave.
Only takes me about 40 mins to Dannevirke from my place.

The Triumph HB group I am with have a monthly ride which is next Sunday. They meet at Breakers Napier at 9.30 for a brew etc and leave 10ish. Think this time its a north ride, so prob Wairoa?
It is open to all makes of bikes and the guys are all good, and the pace is your own pace, but its not nana pace, as its modern Triumphs.
Maybe some of you want to come on that if Saturday is out?
After talking to a few people on the ride today we wondered if we could cancel the Saturday ride to Wairoa and do the Sunday ride with the triumph group that Dooly is riding with? See quote above. What you recon people? How many people will this plan change affect?

I can't make Saturday now, so its only a ride on Sunday for me.
I'll ring the guy who organises the ride and see where we're heading and post back the details etc.

If the ride is (semi)legal, then the only reason it would or wouldn't keep up is rider skill.

Its just a matter of riding at your own pace. You'll always get to where the others are, just in your own time.
Last ride there were a few old guys on the cruiser Triumphs and they tootled along at the back no probs.

Just spoke to the guy, he's thinking of Taupo on Sunday.
Meet at Breakers Napier, park on the cobblestones, maybe have brekky there as I do about 9.15-9.30, head off about 10ish.
All welcome, its not a regimented ride, so dunno who, or how many will turn up.

There is no chequered flag at the end of a ride. Every one rides at their own pace. I have been tail end Charlie many a time. I tried to combine the fast and slow groups that ride in Hawkes Bay last year but the ride we had to Tarawera didn't go so well. It seems some of the slower riders were upset because the fast riders went ahead. However they stopped at the pub and had only gone in to order when the slower group arrived. We all sat around and had a chat for an hour and then left for home. A good ride in my opinion. However I got some Emails to ask me not to do it again. It is simple. We leave together and meet at a prearranged place. Maybe regroup on the road or at the end of the ride. I have never seen a rider left behind and not waited for on any of my rides. So you will arrive at the same end place and enjoy the company of the group. If you want to ride slower than some I don't see a problem. It is a great way to meet people and is great to hang out with people with similar ideas and likes. Mainly bikes. We had 27 bikes yesterday and no one got left behind. We had everything from very fast to slower riders. No problems at all and it was a great ride. So come along and enjoy the company.

But could fit a ride in in the middle of the day. So who is keen? The weather is going to be good. How about a loop around the Taihape road or similar? Or do you want to go to Wairoa? Anyone keen?

Aye Tony. What a great day mate. Thanks for the invitation to ride. It was a very pleasant pace. Not too fast and not slow. Spot on by my books. The company was great and the road was superb. Not a single goat or pheasant on it. A truly awesome day.
I got the learn from the R1 today. Again...... I wish I had the camera thingy on the bike. Rob powered past me on the sprint to the top of the devils elbow. the poor little Gixxer was working hard but no match for the power of the R1. I loved the black line you painted. The Pilot road 2 are a great tyre but I don't think I will get the mileage out of it you will MSTRS. It looks a bit raggy already and it has only done two rides. They stick like shit to a blanket and give good feel back to the rider. Still have the Pilot sport on the front. I like it.
 If Rob can give me the learn on the same tyre I recon I can live with it. Go the PR2
What a great day......................

I've done 4500+ miles now and still looks as good as the day it was fitted. No chicken strips either. Very faint signs of wear in the middle.

Pilot Road 2s are great sport touring tyres. I have them on Betty and they're working well, I was pleased with the way they went at the last MotoTT day. My rear's starting to show a little abrasion around the sides, but otherwise it's looking strong after 2,000km. Good thick tread on those things.
I wouldn't put them on a GSX-R, though. The PR2s aren't really suited to a light powerful sportbike, particularly one with mediocre stock suspension. They'll just slip and tear.
Steve, I'm not really surprised you're getting inferior performance from them; given what I've heard of your riding style, I'd suspect that you'd actually get better mileage from Pilot Powers on your bike, since they're sticky enough to put down the power from the 750 rather than just tearing themselves up.
I guess John's just avoiding that issue by sticking to the 'don't open the throttle' technique.

Plenty of bikes for all George, got 4 big road bikes in me shed now.
(Ok, I'm storing 2 for Lee, but still looks cool)
Thanks for the warning, was thinking of a tootle along there one night this week.
Am keen for a ride up Matapiro/Crownthorpe, maybe this weekend for those not going to Paeroa.
George, the Triumph is used to Yamahas, it sits next to my Yammy quad, so they get along fine.

:Oi: So what tales have you been telling Chicky..... You know what happens on the ride stays on the ride.....:jerry:.....
Part of the problem is tyre pressure. I have run my tyres at 38psi for years. This caters for the two up time and I don't have to adjust them. Hence the tyre is not getting hot enough when I am out playing like I was on Sunday. My tyres were notably colder than Wasps after a good fanging. So I will drop them to 36, as MSTRS and others have been telling me for years  and see how that goes. The harder centre of the tyre has cold tear for sure. The softer compound sides have noticeable wear on the edges of the tread. Again I think more heat would help this. The tread is deep and wide and that would allow cold tear to damage the tyre easily.
I have set the rear shock up for my riding and lifted it 18-20 mm. I had the same but worse problems with the Pilot roads a few years ago. But a lot worse. They literally fell to bits. Big lumps fell out.
Still I got this tyre for a very good price so I will wear it out and maybe go back to the pilot Power. I liked the one I have just taken off. Very nice tyre and it felt great to fang it on that Pilot power. Mind you the PR2 felt good yesterday and Rob gave his a harder time than I gave mine and it ran really well but did show scalloping on the softer areas when we got back here.
What are your thoughts Rob? Am I just a wimp and need to go harder? Maybe I should ride it like I stole it .....:2thumbsup

Yep yr a wimp and you need to go harder. But.........
I have been running 36psi on this tyre for some time and i seems to going really well. When i was at manfield i was power sliding out of Higgens and this was probably due to the very hot conditions on the day and also due to all the right hand corners. So in hindsight the tyre presure should of been a bit higher. I spent quite a bit of time on getting the suspension setup better so that it handles well and also dosnt cook the tyre. Remember if the suspension is to hard then the trye will do it for you.

Boy, I am real glad that our yunguns aren't so susceptible to testosterone filled, peer pressure rides...Pat takes his racing to the track, and Zac, well whenever I ride with him he is really sensible...
I reckon its a good thing that they are not easily influenced by the old greybeards talk of fanging it on the road!

Yea but they know shit when they read it........... I don't see any "peer pressure" here. Everyone rides the way they want to ride. If anyone crashes then it is their responsibility. I didn't see anything that was dangerous or too fast yesterday. We are discussing tyre pressure and wear pattens. Some bravado and some banter

I'm happy for my boy, my man and myself to ride with the HB crowd anytime, cos, just as you said, there is no peer pressure. Just support, encouragement, tips, and loads of fun and laughs...and a bit of BS at the end of the ride.

Was there some sort of biker rally in the Bay on Sunday? Heaps of bikes heading your way on the Napier/Taupo and about 30-odd at the Tarawera store mid morning?

Not that I'm aware of, but we did have our usual stunning weather, fantastic roads and awesome people. Maybe one of our visitors has been bragging about how great this little corner of the world is.
Next time you are here, you must call on us, rather than the incognito visit you made this weekend just gone.....

Saturday evening was a new strategy for us. Usually when we actually plan to come to the Bay, events and/or the weather seem to actively transpire against us. This time we snuck up on it. We started by conning it into thinking we were just doing a usual fang around the Rapa, starting with brunch at the Fush. To complete our ruse this time we didn't even pack anything, stopping at the Wharehouse in Napier for clean underwear and toiletries on our arrival.
Up via SH50 to the Lime Hill turn-off, then across to Waipawa, to Patangata and into Napier via the Elsthorpe road. Home on Sunday via Napier, Vinegar Hill, the Manawatu Gorge, Mangamaire, etc. Absolutely terrible roads and weather. We don't know how you locals can stand to live there. I mean, really...

Wouldn't you need to dino it again and remap if you getting more air in? you have a high flow filter in it at the moment? Hmm will read some more.

Report in tonight's paper...there is a public meeting tomorrow from 3pm to 6pm at the old (Massey Uni campus) Teachers Training college on Prebensen Drive (between Ford Rd and Mitre 10). This is to 'provide an opportunity for us to make suggestions'.
Apparently there are plans afoot to 4 lane Prebensen Dr and although I reckon the speed limit will remain at 70kph, I wonder whether Cheesecutter will be involved. Janet is going to attend, so make with the questions she can put, or go as well.

Okay, off I trotted to the Public Consultation meeting.
The speed limit will remain as it currently stands. The part of the road that Napier City Council is responsible for (basically the 70 k zone), will have a grass median barrier, similar to Taradale Rd and Kennedy Rd, the other part,(Transit's responsibility) where they propose a bridge over Hydrabad Road will unfortunately have an ugly barrier...of concrete!!!
Apparently, because the overbridge will be concrete Transit has agreed to a concrete median barrier. The guy from the council was adamant that there was no way he would be letting Transit renege on the deal!
Woohoo!

Aye Chicky it was great. You are looking fit and well. We walk around the bank in the avo looking for Tart and MSTRS and Busa Pete and co but never found you. We were getting the gear on to leave when we got your last TXT. Never mind we will catch up here some time soon.
It was a great weekend. We went to Hamilton for Saturday night and stayed in the Ibis. It is new to Hamilton. I would rate it as "good" in the end. We had a shaky start because they told W and I there was no parking and we would have to move our bikes down to the Casino. Yea right. <_< We found a space. The rooms were good, all be a bit small, but that's all you need for a night over. The breaky was good. Not as many choices as I might have liked but the rooms at $89.00 and $109.00 for the promo, it was good.
The day at the track was great. I would just like to say I herd Rob say the Suzuki word after the 3rd lap of race five but after a red flag and restart it was all Yamaha. A disappointing day for Suzuki. Bloody Yamahahahahaaa..............
Great ride home and Donna is so on to it. She rode at the same pace as the rest of us and the traffic was thick as. Well done that girl. No special favours from now on.
I had an issue with the Gixxer. Again. It blew a fuse as we stopped to pay at the gate on the way in to da track. Lucky it only took out the dash and the indicators and not the hole wiring system like last time. Replaced the fuse and all was well till we left for Napier from Taupo. I pulled out of the park to find no dash, that is Speedo, Tacko, dash lights etc not going. The head lights were going but I didn't try the dip switch incase it took out the lights. We headed off for home behind W Mrs W and Grumpy. I passed them and shot off in an attempt to get home before it got to dark, or as close to home as possible. Now I can say riding with out a dash is great. Ride to the conditions. It turned out to be a quick trip home. By the time we got to Eskdale it was black as so I tried the dip switch and it work fine. But with no indictors we had to stay in the line of traffic all the way down the Esk Valley to the Main road. So I will have another go at fixing it.
Still it was a 9/10 weekend. The edge taken off by the Gixxer. Other than that it was great to see you Chicky and Rob and Mark and all da others at the track and share a weekend away with W&D. Bring on the next one.

She does'nt know that I need some bits to do the major service on the Duc and the agents are in Welly.
Oh, and there will be shopping........Triumph dealer, Duc dealer there, might even take a look in Wellington Motorcycles at the HD dealership.

Was a blast alright...man, that wind was sumfing else, I think it was strongest on our way back from your place....going past the old Thunder Park site the wind was blowing us across the road. Arrr Robert  I thought I herd a squeak from over in the corner. Well actually I did have a peek.<_< It looks good from here. But it is interesting to note the older Gixxers are still out on the road doing it. I am pleased I don't have to replace it every year for fear of it being unreliable. :jerry: And the knowledge that I don't need too add "go faster bits" makes my life easier.

Yep, that was us.
Was a good ride too.
Rob has his bike set up perfectly now, looked like it was on rails.
His lines around corners was exceptional and effortless.
As we were talking about at the Patangata Rob, I took real note of the ride back and yeah I need to get my suspension dialed in to me.
The back end was skittery and bouncey a bit over some bumps and on hard lean.
Never really took much notice before, but from what you were saying you've done to yours, seems its well worth the effort to spend good time to sort.

Shot down to manfield this arvo to have a blast on Team Cudby's SV650, started out ok, taking a little bit to settle back into the bike after not riding anything for over a month, first lap was 1:28, but got down to 1:23's by the end of the session. the first session felt a bit off and only in the last 2 laps did i finally manage to hit ''Dunlop'' (the sweeper onto pit straight) correctly and carry some decent speed through the corner to the straight which really helped me to carry a smooth flow to the rest of the track.
The second session felt much better after quickly settling into the bike and i was able to get into a smoother groove as i started at the front of the fast group and had a clear track to play on. I was passed by a fzr1000 and two inline fours in this session but by the end myself and the other leaders had lapped about the back half dozen or so bikes. Averaged 1:21's in the session apart from the couple of laps near the end where lapping traffic started to hold me up.
The SV felt really positive, pulling evenly right through to the red, the tires were spot on for the day, and they gave plenty of feedback. They at least held well enough for me to kill another knee slider and remove a decent volume of material from both the right footpeg and the rear brake lever without coming to any harm :)
All in all a great day out, the new track surface has been ruined once again by those prats in their drift cars but none the less plenty of grip if ya keep the wheels in the right places :)
Now to get back out on the RG on some track days to do the last of the testing and setup for the Winter series :)

Arrrrr someone did start to organise a midweek ride but the thread got trashed

Yeah Rob, that one did cos it could have been confusing...all it needed was a title change to clarify. Never mind, it was replaced with this one http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=56593 aimed at those that couldn't do Wed evenings, or who could do weekdays. I note that it has been 'dead' for quite some time.

Dooly I'd ride with you but sadly i don't have a bike (yet), and you probly wouldn't want a 78kg pillion.

Can't take pillons, makes you responsible, and we can't have that!
Theres so many from HB on here I think.
Makes me wonder why ALL of us here can't co-ordinate a ride or meet up together one day, instead of just the usual few who do the KB rides that we have been over the last year or so.
Of course, wishfull thinking in this day and age of shift work, committments etc.
Should have another rider shortly, now the stepson has his full licence.
Have been looking for a bike to buy for him to use to get some skills and and road smarts as he has'nt ridden since the 250 months ago. But only with me (which dunno is a good thing) to teach him. (And to keep an eye on the bike)
So that when he no doubt buys the full size bike he does'nt die straight away.......
I keep going back to this on TM. Probably a bit of overkill for the lad but seems to good a deal, plus will be easy to sell when the times right........

Guys, an honest opion on the Suzuki dealer in the bay........worth the bother of dealing with, or best elsewhere?
Had enough of shit service from some places.
Made some serious enquiries about a 1098 Ducati this week.........no interest or response from a dealer, 4 days later.
Guess they don't need the cash.
I have a long memory in stuff like that.

The guy at 5 star suzuki took close on 3 weeks to get the correct replacement headlamp for the kat in. (given it was a bit of an oddball) I recommend underwood and wilkins in whakatane...... absolutely fantastic dealership.

Just had heads up.
Apparently a "gang" who shall remain nameless is a bit short of cash at the moment. To cover the shortfall they are following motorcyclists home, then returning at a later date to pick up the bike and move it on for some readies. I don't know how true this is, but it pays to be safe rather than sorry.
Lock them up folks!
