Nice ride people. That is the longest diesel spill I have ever seen. Must be 15 km long. Couple that with the Weaner Heifers Turkeys Goats and rolled over ute, you have to say it is a road that challenges the senses. But still a nice ride. Hope everyone wears plenty of warm gear from now on.

How you feeling Chicky?

Missed you Mark. Maybe next week aye?

That was certainly one of the more 'interesting' ones we've had....don't normally come across rolled vehicles. Still...no-one hurt, weather good, company excellent. Bang on. Our latest HB member, Canarlee, is well confirmed as another regular.

Where was the diesel spill?
Did'nt notice it.

Nice bike Rob, awesome colour too.

yeah, great road that, sorry I didn't stop at the rubidy dub, but had some stuff to sort, like find my wallet! and yes I did! on the way back I caught up with the filth that had, I guess, been to the rolled ute. It wasn't a h.p. pig just a normal pig, no rear facing radar, maybe just as well:innocent: so was going to pass but thought better of it, so had to follow him and the car in front down through the twisty bits :zzzz: then on the flat, a bike hoves into view and the pig hits the radar, then another bike, same thing the pig hits the radar, moments latter an oldish b.m.w. two up rounds the corner towards us, not cranked over or anything near it, the pig hits the radar again and switches on the c**t lights, I'm saying to myself thats bullshit, but the pig does the u turn and pulls him over twat! was good for me though nailed it from there into town  sweet, sorry for the dude on the bimmer. 26 more sleeps before "you know what":scooter: Have to get a few more rides in, not riding so smooth at the mo.

Hey Dooly that was a big can on the Bandit and it was hot too, ouch! When I got home the Mrs was back from work, guess what she wanted to go for a ride so we had a bit of a night ride bit cool tho.

Did'nt notice it.!

Ummm did you smell the diesel at the top of the devils elbow? That line in the lane from there to almost the pub was diesel. When it rains it is going to be a major hazard. That's why MSTRS and I were riding funny lines. Trying not to cross over it too often or corner on it.

Hey all

It was great ride.
Great company and great road, even with the few obstacles we encountered along the way

I was grinning pretty much the whole time, being on the new bike and all.
It goes great on the tarseal

When did Harley Davidson release their new sports bike, because that one with us sure can move :bleh:

Look forward to the next ride
Anyone going out today?

Canarlee, is he a newbie to the province now, a resident?
Nice to see the new Bandit 1250, but what a massive can it's got!

As G4E said, it was one continuous black line in our lane for maybe 30kms or more. Bastard being confined to half of one lane or less manouevring room. didn't cause me issues when I had to cross it, but then, why risk it?
Canarlee said he felt his front step a couple of times and hadn't noticed the spill, Probably was the cause. What's with the powers of observation - thought we bikers never missed a thing? :Pokey:
He is indeed new to our place, in fact he only arrived in NZ 2 weeks ago. He wants to set up a biker-friendly cafe/bar http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=43767 . He is staying with us until his flat is available.
And yes, the Bandit can is the pits. Give him time - he's only had the bike for 10 days - there is a Micron or similar somewhere with his name on it.

Dooly
20th May 2007, 11:21
I remember that thread about the cafe now.

I think I saw Canarlee's front step out on the way home, as I was behind him, it was up the gorge bit, quite noticable.

Your house must be getting full now.
Where's the foreign student, you scared him off the back?

I saw you on my way to the airport thought I had missed out on another ride...Where were you two off to huh huh huh huh.

My parents brought me up to be a considerate person and from what I see you and Mary moo are great parents just like everyone else in the group. At the mo your kids may not show you how much they care as I know I sure didn;t but the older they get the more they realise how much their parents mean to them and now is my chance to show that

Lucky we never went up the Taupo rd last Saturday.

A mate was in earlier. Him and a couple on bikes went to Taupo to do a bike trade with someone and he said the plains and the start of the hills were infested with bacon.
He and another got pinged for 125km by a cop in a silver Honda Prelude who got him from behind.

He had a radar detector which detected the bacon, but he could'nt see it.
The cop said he saw them coming towards him then did a u turn then flicked on his radar which was fortunate as my mate was going about 200, and when the alarm went off he dropped his speed.
He saw several mufti cops sitting at the bottom of passing lanes too.

Yep the detector will not save you all the time. I am due to be pinged and will take it with out to much protest as it is well over due. But that is why I have the ear plugs cos as soon as the thing beeps I hit the brakes hard. Very hard. Below 100 kmh every time. I don't need to see the bacon just hear it. once I am down to speed I start to look for it. If you brake very hard it seems to stop the tickets. I wait a while before I speed up again. Once I am down to speed I put my hand over the back of the detector to determine where the bacon is.
Always use your eyes and look hard for them. But the truth is the Escort has saved me way way more than it cost me. But I will get a ticket some time in the future. it is only a matter of time. I would rather go down for 120 than 180.

The cheap Cobra I have has kept me clean but dont always fit it cos I need ear plugs for it. Word of warning dont follow to close to Gixxer when he detects cos you'll disapear up his exhuast pipe when he hits his achors.:dodge:

Yep you got that right. I always try and ride offset. The hard thing about having the detector is keeping the speed down. I like to ride out in the front but I do lead too fast and we are a slower riding group and must remember that.

All credit to MSTRS for keeping the speed at a good pace. Good self control MSTRS. It is good to have you out the front at the start of the rides cos it set's a good tone for the ride. Remember we need to train our newer riders. That's why Tart got this group together. And we have Chicky coming on so we need to get her up to speed. Ummmm I haven't seen Alice on a ride for a while. Still around? So Big G has a good point. Make room for other riders.

A point here. If one of us gets pulled over it is better for the rest of the riders to continue on. Maybe wait a few k's down the road or just head to our meeting place or home. How do you all feel about that?

Also pays to bunch up when the lights go on cos it is hard for the bacon to pick a bike out of a group than one on it's own. Again how do you feel about that

23rd May 2007, 19:23

Dunno correct response from the group to a ping. I know some groups work on lead rider takes the hit, while others shuffle their order to confuse the cop.

This is true. Mary Mooo and I got hit with instant on going past the lime works on SH1 8 months ago. We were around 150k. I braked very hard and we got the slow down finger from Mr Plod. That is the 5th time we have done that and got away with it. There are plenty of threads on here that explain why this works.

One other thing we do. if we get hit with instant on when car hopping I go across the lane to the very left of the road and try and brake the radar signal and brake to try and make sure the car behind me will not hit me. It has worked every time. But we seldom go more that 20-40 K over the limit when car hopping.

How do people ride with out one? I would be a nervous wreck.

I have seen you set a mean pace John. But I admire the way you lead this group. It is harder to lead at a slower speed for the group sake than blast away by yourself. The fact that this group rides together is why we have such a great time every week.

Yep, indeed.

I find it hard to tootle along at around the speed limit constantly and being behind John or Steve keeps me fine and makes me get used to it.
Not keen on leading as I tend to drift way over the limit without noticing quickly. Plus its good to follow the lines of different experienced riders and see how they do it and maybe use it to improve your own riding style.

It's good we keep our rides different each week otherwise the Feds would anticipate ware we are going and possibly look out for us. There are few live out Maraekakaho way, with the popularity of biking on the increase and the authorities wanting to keep the speeds down they are going to target bikes. So I beleive what has bin said by the Gixxer is very good, we just be sensible and go quick when it is safe to do so and for Dooly can go Very Quick when it is safe and clear. They are briliant rides.

Funnily enough the only time I've seen the cops who live out my way are on the way to work with the main one who lives by the monument, Quinn, the head of HWP here, who is a real CUNT. Has been known to drink at the Chook & Filly, go home 1km down the road, put on his uniform bring the car out and ping the locals for DIC leaving the bar he was just in! He also sits up the hills on HW50 taking pics of speeders and lane crossers.
The only other cop I know of near me is a dog handler.
They seem to be rampant down HW50 mainly during the working week, not so much during the weekend.

But as far as perks of the job go. A long time mate of mine who I'm trying to get to join us on our rides is a cop here in Hastings. He was pulled up on his K5 Gixxer a while back on the Taupo rd for a warp speed.

I had to follow him into work yesterday morn. It was 7am, no one on the road and the cunt was doing 90kph on HW50 all the way to Bridge Pa.

With this guy mate, for sure.

I've noticed when other cars are behind him in the morns, its a slow procession into town. No one passes him. All the locals only travel at 100-110 but he is always 90.

His house is directly opposite the monument, red roof, on the rise.
I often wonder, actually everytime when riding past....'I wonder if the cunt will take my pic', so I always button off past it. Just habit.

Good point. My mate's friend stopped just in front of him on Saturday and they gave him a ticket too, saying, you were close to him so you must of been doing the same, yet they never clocked him.

I would argue that one. Big time.

Yep. The group I rode with before this had a deal to compress if the lights come on and they turn around, and change the lead bike. Then no one stops until the bacon picks a bike out. Then the rest keep going to where ever they were going.

We could all put in for the fine but that's a bit tuff if the lead bike is way out the front playing. But if the hole group are doing 120 and one gets fined we are all guilty and spreading the load would work. Remember that a beginner is 50 k over at 120. No more licence.

Yes true but if you are riding with an L plate and you are seen by Mr Plod doing 100 k he will pull you over. no L plate and they do not know you should be doing 70 not 100. But then maybe you should stick to the 70 when learning. I don't know the answer but when Patrick and I past a Plod on the Taupo road at 100 kmh he got away with it cos he didn't have his L plate on. But if you get pulled over for somethin else and you don't have it on you pay the fine. No easy answer but I recon the 70 k thing is stupid. Best way to get killed. Drive at 70 k while the trucks are doing 110 around you. Stupid law this one.

They are good rides for sure.
This riding group is so you and others can enjoy the ride. We came together so beginners could get out and ride. So with that in mind you get on your bike and turn up. You would have kept up on the first half of the ride yesterday. If people want to speed up on the way home that is good as long as someone stays with the beginners and make sure everyone knows how to get home. It is a bit tuff when you are in the back country and have no idea how to get back to the main road and the other bikes have disappeared in to the abyss. I know it has happened to me. We will have Chicky on the rides in a months time. So just turn up on the bike and we will sort it out. I recon it is good for the faster riders to go off and we slower riders meet them there.

Stick to some rules.

Rule one. Nominate a sweeper. That person stays at the back till they get to the destination. Swap the sweeper to someone else for the ride home.

Rule two. The person who is riding second in line stops at the first intersection and directs the rest of the group. They know who the sweeper is and when the sweeper goes passed they can come along. Pass the sweeper so that person is still at the back. And so on for all intersections.

The sweeper will ride behind the slowest rider. That rider need not worry about holding them up cos they are there to help and it is their responsibility to look after the last rider. The sweeper should back off if the rider in front looks uncomfortable.

Simple. If the sweeper does not turn up in reasonable time to the intersection go back and look. If you see them coming turn around and go back to the intersection so the slower riders know where to go.

I don't want to spoil the rides with rules. Nor is it my place to ask for any. It just seems to make sense to me. We had problems on ANZAC day cos we didn't have a plan. But it was a great ride anyway.

Hope everyone got home ok. Sorry we took off but I needed to get home and I wanted to watch my boy ride.
Thanks everyone.
Cheers all for the good ride yestersday, havn't been on my bike much in the last couple years, doing the family thing, took it in for a WOF before Cold Duck and according to the WOF sheet its only done 2000k's in 18 months. Had fun with the pace that Lance set on the way home, touring tires on a sports bike not the best combination with the back wheel moving around a bit on a few corners, should prob check tire pressures too, been 18mths since I put tires on and that was the last time I checked tire pressure.
Speights_bud rides well for a little bike, got a bit worried when he wasn't still behind me at the end of one corner, turned round and went to look for him, he had stopped to check tires cos he thought he had a flat, it was a slippery corner under those trees.

It was a bit messy. When MSTRS pulled over to let us go at the intersection a few k's before the pub I took the lead. The second right hander had shingle on it and I was sure I was going to embarrass myself. I had set the corner and had the lean thing going by the time I realised it had shingle on it. I didn't have my good luck charm on the back this week. You might have to come back Stichchick to keep us safe.

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's ride. Good to see some new faces too.
Had a lovely 'pootle' up the Annie today with Canarlee.....HEADS UP.... the gravel warning sign is no longer there when the seal runs out. Not cool coming out of the sun, into the shadow and deep loose gravel at 90kph. A brown trouser moment!!!! Kept it together, although I really don't know how. Keeping OFF the brakes, closed throttle is probably how?? You're Game thats a long ride on the gravel to the Annie, doesnt that stuff your tyre's? cos its sharp stones on that bit of road. I took the dirt bike up there on the trailer to Robsons Lodge and nearly lost the trailer on that metal, it makes the loose gravel on the road on Sat a dream to be on.:dodge:

It was Absolutely Awesome!!!!! I have never seen my Dad emotional except when a young family friend took his own life. My Dad was a blubbering mess and it started the rest of us off hehehehe. He had his workmates there and also ALL his living brothers and sisters and uncles and aunties etc.

Stories were told, everyone had a good laugh and a great time. I stayed sober and mingled to get everyone talking to people they don't know etc.

Would you believe my Dad let his best friend do a "William Tell" with an apple on Dad's head using a Dart while intoxicated...Now thats what I call a great friendship...Lucky to say that Uncle John missed Dads head....he also missed the apple too

Went and saw my bike as well...Col is doing a fantastic job on it!!! He is da man:Punk:

Chilly out there folks today.

Just got home from a rather spirited blast into town.
Had to go into work and get something so thru a pack on the shoulders and took the Duc for a blast.
Lucky I was rugged up well, temp quite a bit lower than yesterday so far.

Stopped for gas in town, there was a guy and his woman, late 40s? on a fairly new Soft tail. I pulled up next to him, went to say gidday and the cunt ignored me! He looked away when we were paying for the gas too.
Shit like that rolls off me usually, but I really felt like putting one on his chin.
Ignorant bastard.
Yeah we all know not all Harley riders are as decent as Warwick, and some sprotsbikers can be wankers too, but man, for some reason it pissed me off.

Consolation tho, everyone at the gas station wanted to talk to me about the Duc, not his bike!
Maybe that was it........

Thats probably my lot for riding this weekend.
If you're out this way for a ride, we're here for a pitstop if you want, Warwick's got my number.

Yep, been out in my paddocks today feeding hay out to the horses.
The few cows we have have enough to munch, they're still fat.
Looks like I'll get the water truck in next week to fill the tanks up as the bore/aquifer is low now, not pumping enough to compensate for what we are using and the backup rain water tank is low.........funny that, whats rain?

But then again, look how many weekends we've had out riding in a row......double edged sword huh, but thats the way it goes, and I'm not complaining.

What pisses me off mate is if I tipped the Gixxer over no one would look at it. Every one looks at yours even when it is upside down.
If 200 people walked past the two, 190 would look at the H/D and 10 might see the Gixxer. Like in W/Puk. But if they were both upside down in the garden 200 would see the H/D and no one would see the Gixxer. So you can stop showing off............ .....................

Yea, What she said. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

We will make sure the note book goes on the rides so if the worst ever happened we would have contact details. We can also send out Emails for non planned rides. This list will stay private and only be used for emergency contacts and some ride details. We will always use Blind Carbon copies when spamming you with ride details. What details are you wanting Chicky?

You should also have a number in your Cell phone called I.C.E. Put your main contact details in that. Home phone partners (wife hubby ) cell etc. I.C.E stands for

In case of Emergency

Ummm Just a question to the others that filled with Fuel in Wairoa.....have any of you had problems with how your bike is running?
Mary and I had the bike missing when we got to Raupunga, on the way home on Monday, and after the down hill on the Napier side of Raupunga it died. As we were going down hill it came back to life. Went well after that till the down hill on the devils elbow. Good going up the hill but shity going down. Been out to night and it was fine except for one spot where it missed a few times but came back to life with a bit of right hand turning.
Could just be my bike. Well over due to have the plugs done etc but if other have had problems it could be the fuel.

I would think you can sit on da Gixxer. If you want. And it is going.
You will have to get up to speed with riding quickly. You will be a long way away in Hastings and might miss a ride or two.
How do you get to work at the moment?

Where I'm moving too I'm only ten minutes away from work. I currently get to work either by lift or bus. I have a plan for not missing the rides until Colapop gets my bike up here which we have finally got a definite date...21st July. So I have plenty of time to keep bugging you hehehe

I'll just stay at Auntys place on a friday night, as at the moment I have to do the same for Darts on a Tuesday too. As people keep telling me where there is a will there is a way.

Also moving away from where everyone is is also making me try harder to get on the road so I'm mobile and can visit without replying on someone. There was method in my madness.

I have to cos I end up empty with the bike at home. It is hard to justify the Gixxer as a work bike so can't us farm fuel. Wounder how it would go with a mub tyre on it? :innocent:

Cool all good. You will have to come out often to get the practise. You might have to talk to Janet and see if she will lend you her 250 so you can learn on the road out here once you have the basic's on the farm.

All you say is true. I can claim the fuel as a tax deductible item, for sure. Cost of running a business and all but we farmers are very special people and we can claim our road user charges back on fuel used on the farm in our bikes and ute etc. So I can't use that fuel in the bike cos it is wearing out da road and Aunty Helen needs every cent to maintain the roads to a very high standard to stop us from having accidents. Sure I could put it down as private use but that makes paper work. And Mary Mooo has too much of that already. So she said on the weekend. :dodge:

That explains alot.....thought the hassle I was having trying to buy a new bike was weird to say the least. Still go by my original statement that the dealings I have had with Lee of the Parts Dept were first rate...most obliging chap. He even tracked me down and rang me at home one night to tell me the gear I had ordered was no longer available through their normal sources but he had managed to get us a similar product elsewhere at a cheaper price. Can only hope the new owners get their act together.....sounds like that wont be too easy. Cheers W

Yep Lee is really good. He is in contact with Speights_Bud over a tyre that I ordered 4 weeks ago. He seems to be on to it.
