I'm bored like you can't imagine! I've already been accredited for 3 unit papers here at the block course so i don't have to go to the classes, is there no one on this thread who has nothing better to do at work??    :pinch:

Hey if you are bored during the day let me know, I don;t have any work to do and I can rant and rave at you and give Dan's ears a break for a while:girlfight:

Go for a run on your legs.......... This will inspire you to save for a road bike. You could be out riding all around the big city :niceone: You could go and test ride bikes from bike shops and do reports for us all. Try an SV 1000 :)

You might be able to get out of there early if you have done enough papers?

Four bikers passed me this morning on HW50 at 6.50, looked to be on a mission, one was a VTR1000, and 2 were VFR800s I think, did'nt recognise the other.
Anyone expecting company?

OOohhh yes, i thought about that, but the useless buggers only have high-speed steel for turning here, no carbides :( and i doubt with that in mind that they'll have any stainless i can use either :( i do however have access to a cylindrical grinder atm.

If i go for a run here i will get stabbed. end of story.
as for test rides, i would looove to go test riding bikes :2thumbsup however i'm not so sure if they'd let me just test ride one :( i think i may have a zxr250 lined up to go for a little ride on, today while tightening a chain on a VFR for one of the guys in tech 3 bikes zoomed through the campus, gave me that i better go for a ride soon nador else feeling inside. I'm actually getting riding withdrawl :(

Howdy all

Do we have any friendly Auto Electricians and/or engineers amongst us?

I am entered into the Dusty Butt Endurance Challenge in Jan 08 :2thumbsup
It is a 24 hour ride with most of it on gravel in the upper South Island

What I need is to install a set of aux lights to my bike for the event (so I can see on the gravel at night)
Is there anyone keen to help a novice

I also need to make some mounts out of alloy (I have the plans, just need someone with a few clues, cause I dont have many :buggerd:)

Cheers Scott

Thanks Warwick, but we have one.
Its probably a combination of the car sitting unused for about 6 mths and the battery being close to its use by date...if it has a decent run it should be fine, I hope

What a glorious day for a ride.

A mate and I went for a blast to Anza in Palmy.
Pretty sedate pace on the way down, but made it back here from the shop in Palmy in just over an hour on the return trip:eek:
Lots and lots of bikes on the road, and they all must of been in good moods as it was waves for Africa!

Kudos to Anza, always professional, and the amount of people there!
They had about 14? demo Buells and Harleys that people were taking out in a group it seemed about every half hour.
The thing I noticed was that nearly all the people there, and those that pulled in and went......were almost without exception aged 40 plus. I guess the classic born again biker???
Good to see tho.
Hard to tell if I recognised anyone as it was like a giant blowfly walking around, a mass swarm of black! (Myself included)
Only saw about 3 Jap sprotsbikes parked along the road which was completely taken over both sides with bikes.
Quite a few Jap cruisers too, and saw my first Suzy M109 in the flesh, what a monster!

Anyway, it was the first time I've taken the Duc out of town as such, and lack of riding recently, made me wish I'd pillioned my chiropractor there by the time I arrived. Damn arthritic broken bones I have ached like hell.
Bad time to see the selection of cool naked bikes there eh........:msn-wink::niceone:

Nice to see you had a nice ride Tony, I went for a spin to the summit caffe one of my mates rang me and said they had stoped at TePohue so I said I would blast back to see them. Silly thought got pinged comeing down the hill into TePohue managed to slow up enough to get off with 134k, cheeky bloke was hidden off the road around the corner at the bottom.:buggerd: Just got a glimse of the side of his car and hit the anchors. Cheeky Mr Policeman said it's my lucky day cos I'd braked enough before his radar had locked on and he told me I should be walking home, not bleedin likely I thought.

Close call George, how much did that cost?

I saw 2 bacon, fortunately both were in the middle of packs of cars coming towards me, and at the time I was only doing 120, but the road was clear on HW50 so the horses were'nt spared.

On Friday, in the cage, we went from my place over the Taihape road thru the Desert road to Taupo and home, and saw NO cops at all!

George, that is just silly!
Like a dog who gets hit by a car, and won't cross the road in that particular spot anymore, like it is the roads fault!
See you should all ride behind me.. then you would be really safe from the plod...usually anyway...cheaper than a radar detector too!

BigG, how hard did you get on the brakes when you eyeballed the fuzz?

I've personally found that in such situations I have to overcome a natural urge to ride on past without heavy braking, whistling innocently into my helmet as though nothing's happened.

Unfortunately, that instinct can stop one from braking sufficiently to avoid a ticket. If you stand the bike on its nose the moment you glimpse the cop, you should be able to slow down fast enough so that they can't lock on to a ticket-worthy speed. Remember, if they can see you, you can see them. Keep those Mk I eyeballs peeled, and use those brakes for all they're worth!

(If you're travelling above the ton, though, I'd say that slowing down sufficiently probably wouldn't be doable, so... just have somewhere to run to eh?)

Eternal vigilance!

I have a plan.......we do breaky at W & Ds....say 6.15am - 6.45am...then off to Palmy North....eta 9.00am easy. Meet up with all the Southern cuzzies going to the Protest Ride and ride up the Desert Road to Taupo...eta Taupo 11.30am. Do the Protest Ride through Taupo...then grab some lunch followed by a nice leisurely run back home to Napier and maybe a BBQ tea somewhere real close to where we started ( thats if ya dont mind having tea where ya had ya breaky:niceone:) and that way all the ladies and others that couldnt make da ride cause of work and dat could come round for da BBQ as well....now, dats a plan. I realise it's gunna be on a Tuesday...but what the heck, it's close enough to xmas so might as well make it our Christmas get together as well...what you all reckon....Cheers W

Media Studies on Thursday.
English on Friday.

Media: 2 essays. 1st = 2 codes and conventions of the genre we studied. Our genre is TV comedy, and the codes and conventions are satire and surrealism. You need to give a description of them both, then an example and explain what they do. To get me an excellence, you have to take it out of context and relate it to society in general.

And the 2nd is a development within that genre, and the issues surrounding it. Ours was alternative comedy in the UK in the 1970's and '80's. You have to explain how it came about (Thatcher's government wasn't doing anything for the working class and people were striking etc. To show their anger, they made comedy making fun of society, in an attempt to change.) and then relate it to the present day comedy movement in the USA (Southpark, The Daily Show etc).

Simple mate.

And for English, don't worry about Macbeth, I pulled out of that. You just got to do poetry (Robert Frost - "Out, Out", "The Road Not Taken" and/or "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening") and have to pick two of these.

And the second is a film essay. Our studied film was Little Miss Sunshine. The character question is the easiest, and Dwayne is the easiest. Good luck mate.

Funny tho, a lot were young and rode sports types.........for some reason I have this vision of Ulyssess being oldies with cruisers.

Kev Higg he employs people over the Xmas period. You might get to spend 2 weeks welding or somethin........

Do you want me to get one of the Pistons out of the RG ( brakes ) and get W to send you the measurements? I am going to the sale tomorrow and I could pick it up in the Ute

If you wouldn't mind then that would be awesome :D also W would be able to tell us if they actually need replacing in that case, or whether a clean up on the finish is all they need. I am pretty sure that the Pistons are both the same sizes, although it wouldn't hurt to check.

I'm assuming that i can make then from any grade Stainless from what W told me but I'm not sure on whether they need to be hardened or not either, if they do, i have case hardening available to me here at the Tech, or Just Heat to desired color and then quenched. W will know what is best, he's our man with the know how:niceone:

As for Kev Higg, i was thinking he must be who you meant, i dont believe i know any other Kev's, I may look for a weeks work, only thing is the boss hasnt told us what the happenings with time off this year, whether we are even closing the shop or what

If any of you are planning riding down HW50 in the next few days....dont bother

Seal repairs everywhere and in particular the road between Fernhill and Maraetotara :shit:
It is very loose seal and with the heat during the day is verrry soft
Past the road to Dooly's there are a number of corners where the tar has melted and they have patched it up with loose chip (that wont last)

Just a heads up

More shingle and loose chip spread all the way from the monument at Maraekakaho to past the Chook & Filly, right thru the decent short twisties where its good for a blast.
Can't understand why the cunts would do it, no digging or anything, just a shingle spread.

Saw in last nights paper, they said there was going to be 50 buses on the Taupo rd tommorrow during the day transferring lycra fags to an event and the cops will be out in force making sure everyone was behaving..........so that road does'nt look good for a blast, and with HW50 being shingle bound etc........

There are road works everywhere at this time of the year
I was up there on Monday, and at a guess with this hot weather since then, there will be repairs to fix melting tar everywhere

There was a big section of gravel about 5 kms South of Wairoa (realigning a bend in the road), it maybe sealed now though.

Well, that was a nice ride. Sorry if I seemed a little disjointed along the top of Raukawa Rd...had some fueling issues which were delaying throttle response. Makes life interesting when you wind it on out of a corner and nothing happens, then when you think "bugger this" it comes on in a rush, snaps crap out of the chain and kicks you in the arse....then you back off and the thing behaves like it's on a 'half-throttle'
Thank goodness it cleared. Could it have been a little water in the fuel? I've never had this happen before.

Thanks for last night, it really meant a lot to me that you guys were there. I'm gonna miss you guys soooooooo much its not funny. Starting to think that maybe I haven't made the right decision. But as Steve says, life moves forward and I think I'm just nervous about leaving to the unknown...again.

Grumpy and Leanne, it was so great to see you last night, your daughter is so cute and I would hope that you post some pics for me to keep me in the loop of how she is doing.

Big G, Dooly, Team cudby, Delta Bravo, I hope to catch up with you guys before I go. I still have two weeks in the Bay but if not, I will be back again, can't get rid of me that easily, you are all family to me and my family is never forgotten.

When I came here I knew no one, now I have a new family and I'm sure that not everyone can say that. Just don't forget me and keep in touch, if you want my email address Steve and Warrick have it.

Sticky, you'll go well in the big smoke. The friends that you've made in the Bay (and elsewhere) will be with you wherever you go. Hopefully we'll see ya riding down on your own bike before too long... ;)

That was a great ride today. Thanks Al, Scott and Warrick. I could do that again. That road is so nice. I thought it was Dan on the road and I did wave. hope you had a good trip home man.

I love the Pilot Power Rob. Nice tyre. Think I will try the Pilot road 2 next.

Nice to see you Col. I will go and have a look at the Ute with W in the near future. Pleased you had a good flight home mate. Was good to see you up here. I didn't see the waitress standing around out side waiting for you this morning. Maybe she was scarred of you.

We have a plan for the Taupo ride and we will post it here and the Taupo thread in a day or two. I will call you Tart and see what you think. I have spoken to Meekey today and she is happy with all we have planned. She is going to sweep the corner and or get the Taupo City Council to clear the chip of the corner of SHW 5 and Kiddle drive. Let us know what is happening in the next few days Meekey.

Other than that all is well.

Did I mention it was a great ride up and back? Did I ? sorry but it was. Cheers all.

Love yer bike, wish mine would go that fast!

On a sour note....just seen a guy drop his bike.
He came out of Hastings Honda, gave it gas and spun it right round and over she went, he did a rolly into the gutter.
Dunno whether he just had a new rear tyre fitted as a few have done that there afterwards.
A yellow VFR800 and the guy was mid 50s?
I was walking towards him when he did it, was like slow motion.

I have a slight problem with the EL. When I'm riding I have quite bad vibration through the foot pegs. It feels like when you are sitting and you flex your feet and then your legs start to shake after a while. I thought it may have been the position of my feet on the pegs but it still happens when I move my footing position. Anyone able to help me as to why this is happening as it is highly uncomfortable.

Great day for a ride.

Went for a ride with the local Triumph RAT group, but none turned up except for the main guy who runs it. They meet at Breakers at 9.30 on certain Sundays and leave at 10ish, so time for a coffee or brekky there etc.
The rides are open to all makes, not just Trumpies.

Anyway, we headed to Wairoa. Heaps of loose metal on the road after the Waikare pub. Saw no bacon.
Stopped at the cafe just out of Wairoa.
On the way back ran into about 8 or so bikers, including some from the Triumph group at Waikare. Dunno why they missed us at Breakers.
Rode back, went thru Seafield road to the Puketapu for a brew, then home.
Good ride, and I did'nt feel like I needed a chiropractor to get off, like on the Duc!

Heaps and heaps of bikes on the road.
I'm pretty sure I saw Alice who used to ride with us, on a controlled red light at roadworks before Wairoa. She was on her VTR and with a guy on a black Aprilia. Her bloke had one of them eh, thats what made me click on it being her.

Hi Guys.....I'm Back on line....only took Telecom 7 days to find a fault we told them we had 18 months ago when we first switched over to broadband:mad:
I'd like to take this opportunity to list the many ways that our IP (Paradise/Telstra Clear) has helped us during this most stressful time....listed below are some examples;

and then today they came down to look at the afore mentioned box at the end of our street....and bingo...they found a fault  no shit sherlock...amazing powers of deduction these Telecom techies....still shouldn't complain....could have been worse....I think. Yep was me. I have to say it was an experience. It is one fantastic bike. It really makes my 1999 GSX-R 750 feel old heavy and sluggish. ;) I will concede that it is something special. It handles like a rocket ship and has great throttle response. Well this is my last night in the Bay. It has been an awesome 6 months here. I orginally moved here to sort myself out and I have made some amazing friends that have been willing to help me in anyway possible. I have come a long way since first arriving here as the quiet, shy, uncertain and fragile person. All of you helped me with that in one way or another. I'm doing things I never would have done if I stayed in Wellington i.e. my riding. My parents are forever grateful for the way I have been looked after up here and are hoping I can find myself another group of people in Auckland that will treat me the same. They have seen a huge change in me since being here also and that is great to hear. I'm gonna try and see a few of you guys tomorrow before i leave but unfortunately I can't guarantee it. But this is not goodbye, this is, See ya soon. I will be back for visits, no one can get rid of me that easily. But I will miss you all and you have played a huge part in who I have become so thank you.

Everyone have a safe Christmas and a great New Year.:love::love:
