Glad you all enjoyed the race meeting. We were certainly blessed with some incredible weather and how cool was it to see Andrew Stroud, Hayden Fitzgerald and NZ's fastest plumber Craig Shirrifs banging fairings at a club meeting? Mind you there was some great racing in all the classes.

What an awesome ride today Ashurst/Pahiatua/Mangatainoka/Pongaroa.
Left at 11, home at 5.45, good day.
Hope the team that stay at Pourere have a good night and us 3 who came home had a good ride back via HW50
I think it was barely 30 mins from Dannevirke to my house.
And all without exceeding 100.
Bloody Yanis leading us astray!!!!

What you talkin bout Willis?
I was in :second: place
:slap:
Maybe you could have your watch re-calibrated :baby:

Tyre warmers???Hope youre not using them on a classic bike.Back in my day we didn't have tyre warmers, blah, blah. We were tough. We got one warm up lap and then took it easy for the first lap or 2, then go nuts. Or run em at low pressure for a 5 lap race and hope they heat up quick, as they slide after 8 or 10 laps. Have a good day racing.

no tyre warmers for me grant ,thats what the sun is for lol, just got to keep moving the bike tho:banana: my mates run in pre 89 on a fzr600 and zxr400 they have tyre warmers.

Same deal with the warm up lap, try and get some heat in at 25psi and 5 or 6 laps is good or they start sliding , you get that with 18 by 1.85 wheels with 100/90 18(suposed to be a 90 but cant them in sport demon) front and 110/80 18 rear and 32mm forks aye mate. had a good day , not many pre82s (4) there tho ,heaps of pre89, had 35 in the feild . all the other classes were full to, heaps of crashes :( ambo out a few times and seemed to 2 bikes down or more each race. My team mate/sponser has broken some bones in his wrist:(
My engine coming out tomorro, was bogging and flat as out of corners , have new pistons and a few other bits for it, but will do the crank as well, done ALOT of work the poor thrashed old girl. just wanted to get one more meeting out of it lol. I will do a test day (manfeild on most fridays, for competion vehicles, 20 minutes cars, 20 minutes bikes) when the engine is done to run it in and try and get the handling on sweepers better, the left hander on the extended part of the track coming on to Dunlop ius a mongrel, not helped by the rough drain repair right across it, talk about shake its head:eek: tank slapper when heading into the concrete wall on the inside on Dunlop (if doing short track) is exciting:Pokey: Next meeting for me is the Post classic GP October 31st at Taupo, It has seperate Pre 72,Pre 82 and pre 89 classes and has a big turn out

Cheers for the video George, i watch it tomorro at work, Dail up at my place

Cheers for the company today guys. Excellent ride. That trip home was a ripper though there seemed to be a bit of a head wind for some reason. With no fairing I was having to hang on to them there bars. Managed to pry my hands off the grips when I got home but still having trouble wiping the grin off.

Bike seemed to be running a bit rich on the way back. I needed to duck into Hastings to fill up to get me home. Strange that .....:whistle:

I noted the wind as well. If I had the Gixxer it would not have mattered but that’s in the past. :(

I got home with the fuel light on hard. It started to blink at the end of Links roads and went hard North of Bay View. Maybe we didn’t fill em up to the top when we left the track? :devil2:

It was a great trip and thanks to W for the lead. Go the Gixxer man.
Nice to be out and about with you again Mark

Yep what he said. What a great ride down. Followed by a good days racing. However a few bikes got dropped. Gary had a first place qualifier. Well done that man. Followed by a lowside drop in the first race that ended with a third. Again a good result considering things. Then a win to end the day. Just great. He still leads the street stock class. Bring on the two daya on da 26th September.

Now back to da ride home. It was a cracker. Nice to have someone else take the lead on 50. Good pace Mr W. Was the first run for the SV that challenged it. Seems to like it but the suspension is crap and makes for a wild ride down hill in the lumpy bits at speed. I do miss the Gixxer for that riding.

Aye G You are a very lucky man :( to have got that tyre home mate. It was a good thing we set a moderate pace and prevented you from doing any harm to yourself. You need to thank Mr W for looking after your Yamahahaha bits and not just blasting away in to the distance. Send the tyre back and see if you can get a discount or replacement on it. The wear is not even for one. One side looks well worn but not down to the canvas and the other is shagged. You do not ride “Soft” by any means mate.

Thanks for a great day everyone.:apint: Cheers

Thanks everyone for an awesome day and to Stewarts Electrical for their hospitality:niceone: I think most of us had a fuel and tyre consumption problem yesterday for some reason:rolleyes:....can't think of a more pleasant way to set fire to 20 odd litres of parts wash though.....ride home was sumfing else alright.......were your knuckles dragging on da ground when you got home Mark.... bloody nakeds:laugh: I'm pleased you got your suspension sorted Al, nice to know that RT fixed your problem....what were his thoughts as to the strange tyre wear on the rear:scratch:. By the look of your rear tyre George.... I think it was divine guidance that got you safely home mate:msn-wink:.... I'm sure suspension plays a much bigger part in excessive tyre wear than most riders realize........ Thanks again big guy....another memorable day eh:yes:

Spend the extra and get a Pilot Road 2 next time Big G, worth every cent and in the end very good value for money.Yep I was thinking the same.

Like wise Gary.

Was a nice gathering of bikes in the pits. Anyone get a photo? Yep the only ones to come out were at the the track.

Looks like you all had a good day Dale. Nice to catch up this morning. Even though your one is better quality I feel happy having my own back. Don't have to worry about damaging it. Sorry about the dirt on yours. The sheep go in the garden this morning and knocked all the Mooos pots over so I have to hide the damage as I left the house and I was in my riding gear. Think I have got away with it  Cheers mate

Yeah we had a great day! Rode over some awesome roads, and one that could have been one of the best roads yet, plenty of sweeping corners etc but for the stripped seal, loose gravel and bloody lichen.

Was an awesome "tootle" down SH50 on the way home Dooly, thanks for leading the way :niceone:. Sounds like everyone had a great day all round yesterday.

Well I think my Pilot Road 2 on the rear is well and truely scrubbed in, strange to read a few posts on abnormal tyre wear tho!

Steve, you might have to take a trip to see Robert at CKT sometime and get your suspension sorted and see you right for the rest of all time on that twin of yours!

Speaking of tyres.
I had 3 good slides on the rear yesterday on my Pilot Power 2s.
Can't explain it, but know that I dont get them on my Road 2s on the Speedy & Ducati.
Anyone else have that on Powers?
I know Rob has them, and Al has, or did?

There are so many things that can effect the tyres performance. I know you have plenty of motor sport in your blood and know this but we have learnt that 1psi can make a very big difference to how your tyre works. Specially on a road bike as they have so many different road types and times to cool and over heat. Could be down to your tyre pressure. Suspension set-up etc. A tyre that works on one bike will not work on another. You just gota keep checking tyre pressure and make sure you are making 3psi from cold to hot. When you have that sorted you can make a judgment on the tyres performance on that individual bike. I run 34 in the front and 35 in the rear in the cold. Then up it to 36 in the front and 37 in the rear for warmer weather.

If you are sliding on a PP2 you will find the PR2 worse. I would think.........

Welcome. There is usually at least one ride a weekend. Saturdays leaving Mobil Tadarale Road usually at 1.30pm unless something special organised. Then there is the Classic Club Ride (all welcome) and then the Burger Fuel Ride last Sunday of the month leaving BF napier at 11am (from memory). Age group? Mostly mature riders  Just keep an eye on the posts in this thread to find when and where.
Thanks for the heads up

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire ride, including the rough, gravel, moss and other slippery surfaces as they helped me push through some psychological riding barriers (they usually give me the total shits). Hanging up the front with Todd was a load of fun fo sho !!!:headbang:

The Highway 50 run home was awesome too. It all got a little spooky :sweatdrop about 5 minutes into it though, because I had my tinted visor on so I couldn’t see diddly... when Dooly’s tail light disappeared around some corners/bends I found myself riding in brail  ... not entirely comfy whilst doing the full 100km/h following someone who has ridden that stretch of road a thousand times. But, here I am – still alive hehehe.

I think that I will be getting myself one of those ‘Pilot Road-2’ tyres this coming week – seeing that I totally destroyed what was left of my ‘Pilot Road’ yesterday. Can’t wait for that New Tyre feel... I love how it feels like a totally new bike.

Anyway, thanks guys for letting me ride along with your big-ride-out yesterday !!!:2thumbsup

Ps: sorry again about the brake-light thing hehehe. :dodge: I will get used to these boots sometime I’m sure.

I am sure Alvin had as good a ride as us. I noted the policeman spotter on the front of the bike. That bike is just getting better and better Alvin and I was inpressed with the installation of the H/grips. Very nice.

Most likely after a week of rain, that shit and slippery stuff has moved around and washed to a different part of the road. Had a couple myself yesterday on well known parts of the road where you would lest expect it, getting on the gas almost upright and breaking traction. Good fun though when you get away with it.

Hmm, yeah could be.

But on the run up to Tarawera the other week I got a couple too for no real reason.
Its a bit weird as I've never had it on the Speedy, and only once on the Ducati, mind you, as said, both on Road 2s.

I've been having about 37-8 in the rear, and 35-6 in the fronts.
The handbook recommends 42R & I think 36F.
I run those pressures in the Speedy as well as the Daytona and have no probs on Road2s on Speedy.

Might try a little pressure experiments then eh.

Whoa, they pretty high pressures, run 34 rear and 32 front on the Duke and when they are that high feels like you are running on wooden tyres, prefer 30 rear, 28 front but can get a bit squirmey when real hot like a trackday or summers day. Running Pilot Powers. Don't know what manual youre reading , but know mates VTR1000 manual says tyres should be 44? rear, 40-42 front which is based on OEM standard plastic rim protectors, which are not really tyres. Continentals run pressures in the 40's which is way above most other brands recomendations. Suspension set up is to be considered as well. I like my bikes like my woman, firm ,not too hard but still with a bit of a wiggle in the back end.

yep works on the track. Start at 36 rear and front 35. Get it out and ride a while and then test the pressure. Get a good gage and stick to it. Make 3 psi when warm and you are spot on. Then you can judge the tyre preformance. If it is more than 3psi when hot add 1 psi if it is less drop it by 1psi. And so on.

My handbook recommends 42R and 36F - and after the slides I had on Saturday with lower pressure in the rear due to nail, I definitely prefer the 42R. The apprentice at bike shop was gonna put 36 in the rear, but that was if I was a slower rider, when he was told about my riding style, he put it up to 42.

Useless info for you really. But that's what I do.:)

I run the same as CH, checked with the Continental importers when I changed brands and that was also his recomendation. Drop down to mid 30's (R) and low 30's (F) for track days)

Interesting comments on tyre pressures eh. Great discussion

What works for some, does'nt for others.

The pressures I quoted I use on the Daytona are what I use on the Speed Triple and all is well on that. And the manual is the factory Triumph handbook that comes with the bikes.
But the Tona has more hp and obviously more aggressive riding style, but same weight and similar suspension setup.
First time use of Power 2s for me as I've always had Road 2s, so I guess a bit of sorting???
But this weekend the Tona will be resting so will play with the pressures the following weekend.

I find the Ducati works well at 32F, 34R.
Have a new Power 2 on the front of that so will run that in on the Classic Club run this Sat.

I first bought a Shinko a while back and I got just over 10 thou off that one, no good for the track tho. Freaking tyres mind u I do have a spare tyre so some say

I find the Ducati works well at 32F, 34R.
Have a new Power 2 on the front of that so will run that in on the Classic Club run this Sat.

The key to getting the tyre to work as it should, is in what heat you get in to it while at working speeds. The optimum is 3psi. So if you start at 36 r and make 39 hot you have it right. If you start at 36 and make 42 hot it is too soft cold and will over heat and slide when it is over heated and in extreme cases melt and fall to bits. You see a lot of tyres that the owner is so proud of cos they are such good riders they can melt the rubber. Guess what……. They are running them too soft and anyone can do that to a tyre. Even worse when you have the pressures too high, because the tyre can not heat and it will not grip. Ask Rob. He found this at Taupo on the track. Anyway what ever works for you is good.

If you have watched us at the track we take the tyre pressure every time the bikes goes out and comes in. Have a look at the tyre surface and you can see if it has over heated or not. If it does you will note a second a lap will go on as Gary can not corner as well. If it is to cold ( too much pressure ) Gary will drop up to 2 seconds a lap and risk a bin. You really need to sort the pressure out before you can recommend or bag a tyre type. All tyres work differently. Ie amount of sidewall movement, case construction etc, etc etc relates directly to temperature generated. This could be why you have problems on some day and not others. Ie the temperature of the day and road surface and how hard you push the tyre around etc.

You can limit the uncertainty by starting at optimum and that reduces the extreme at both ends of a road ride.

The numbers on the wall of the tyre are important. You will note an oval patch with number like this “2509” This is the date stamp. This tyre was made in the 25 week of 2009. All tyres should have this stamp. Even your car and van etc.

Hey jase how'd it go for you in the weekend?

Ok(ish) had trouble getting used to the long track, theres a left hand sweeper with a horrible rough repair in it that leads into Dunlop, bike was shaking its head big time thru there, softened up the rear and mucked around with tyre pressures and got it better. Im just in from the shed, I have got the engine out and striped now, was getting really slow and didnt have any mid range out of the corners, I knew it was getting tired but the bores are worn heaps and have ugly marks around the exhaust ports and the pistons are down on size as well, they are still standard tho, 29years old and so well cared for.........NOT, I should contact Yamaha about a warranty claim:laugh: I have already got some 1.5mm pistons and some RZ reed blocks(heaps bigger and the same part as TZ750 so legal for pre82) and abit of mild porting, dont want a grenade lol. Also the double row input shaft bearing behind the clutch had a good 0.5 movement in it, had nice shiny gearbox oil lol. I just susing the parts for the crank rebuild, You can use TZ parts but there dear and a bit harded to get, standard RD parts are strong any way, i may use TZ big ends as they have a different bearing cage, doing reasearch on www.tz350.net
I will do a test day and get it run in and sort the handling at Manfeild when its up and running again

Ive got my road engine to do as well, its done 16years work and been ultra reliable. only ever replaced 1 clutch cable, tyres, plugs , front brake pads, 2 sets fork seals(1st set were after market and leaked in less than a year) and Gearbox oil and brake fliud. its even got the original brake shoes in it,
She will back on the road soon:wari: It will be great doing middle road again on my old 2stroke  I should be home sometime in the weekend , drop around mate, just doing the classic club ride on saturday, getting the 61 tiger out for that, hasnt had a run in ages

Out the front on the roadside did they leave it?
We get couriers in here sometimes before 7am. Fortunately I'm always here, but thats poor form by the courier.

Getting a Pilot Power 2 fitted to the rear of the Duc tommorrow to match the PP2 I got on the front last week which has 0 miles on it due to the shit weather last weekend, so Yanis has got himself a decent Road 2 for the weekend now.:scooter::sunny:
I'm kinda funny with tyres, always get both done at the same time, whether one is needed or not.

Hello again folks. I have a specific query to pose to you all. Which of our ‘101km/h group’ thinks that I am ‘a bit dodgy’? I know that it’s a strange question to ask, but please know that it is even stranger to learn that there are some people that think you are ‘a bit dodgy’ !!!

Last week I learned that there was ‘talk’ that I was on home detention. Why on earth anyone would be talking about me in the first instance is beyond me, but, seeing that I have a pretty good sense of humour, I saw the funny side of this error of judgement and of facts.

However, my sense of humour has limitations, and those were reached when I learned that a couple of people were proactively investigating me by questioning my friend & landlord about me. What gives?

One of these people makes mention that I was ‘flashing around $100 bills’ WTF? I recall having 3 $100 bills in my wallet and pulling one of them out to buy a $3 drink (not a $16 snack) on one occasion and the following weekend I had to use one of the remaining two $100 bills to buy another $3 drink whilst out on a nice ride. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS is not ‘flashing’ anything around. That’s far king dodgy? (Oh, and this was 4 or 5 months ago !!! wow)

There is also question on my income. Again... WTF? Even stranger is that I was already asked, and I answered as to ‘what I do’.

I was asked what the pills were that I am often seen taking and why I was taking them, so I answered openly and honestly that three years ago I had major lung surgery which has left me with permanent chronic pain syndrome. I did not go on to stating that I had to survive off of a sickness benefit immediately after surgery. Yes, I was very grateful for that backstop. And I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it again if ever I had reason and cause. I’m not ashamed and nor should I be. How much of my past must I really present to a casual riding group?

Look, I don’t pretend to be better than anyone, I don’t ask for anything, I don’t invite myself to peoples homes, I don’t ask questions about people in ‘our group’ and I don’t talk about people in ‘our group’ I don’t even involve myself in conversations about things that don’t concern me within the group. I don’t do drugs, I don’t drink alcohol (except for one handle of Tui last weekend) I don’t do crime and I don’t harm people.

Dale, Elvin and Tony have been actively friendly towards me. Tony is even helping me out by giving me a rear tyre:niceone: . Making it actually feel like a somewhat social group. Which for me is a definite bonus :yeah: because I was content with just having people to ride with.

So, one could imagine that my bubble was burst when I learned that people were snooping and spreading rumours about me. ME!!!

I was so looking forward to riding (both rides) this weekend. Now I'm wondering - am I too ‘dodgy’ to attend?

If anyone really does feel that they need to know something about me, please just ask me. I refuse to be cast into Desperate Housewives. I don’t appreciate gossip !!! :ar15: :psst:

Hi Stickchich. Thanks for your 2c worth. Please, by no stretch am I accusing the HB crew of anything. If I believed that I wouldn't be riding with the HB crew... cos nobody is forcing me to ride with the crew. However, sadly I have learned for a fact that a rumour was created... and then questions about me were directed to my friend/landlord who attended a ride last weekend... along with the "a bit dodgy' part. Not by 'the crew', but rather... by a couple of people within the crew. I'm not parinoid nor jumping to conclusions. This is fact. Do they mean harm? I doubt it, but I'm sure that you'd agree that I do need to put the brakes on any spinning when it involves me. Cheers

This would be a new low for this thread.

I have just been down to the workshop John and found a Pilot road2 that I took off the gixxer a while back. It is a 190. I ran the gage over it. In the middle at the worst wear point it show 2-21/2 mm and gets better as it goes out. You would get a warrant with it. Also have a pilot sport, the same for the front. Do you want me to send them in with Patrick over the weekend? I took them off after a few track days as Mary and I went to Auckland and wanted new rubber for the trip. Yours if you want them.

And some can Crazyhorse.

Nice day for a ride guys - minus the farkin wind. Got up tihs morning and thought sweet as beauty day for a ride. Now the winds picked up big time i dont want to leave the house.

This wind could pick up one of those heavy bikes - harleys i think they call them.

best way to improve the bike is the rider lol :Pokey: :first:

I rode back from school (napier boys') to taradale. I don't think you would enjoy an open road ride, but because my scooter is so slow it added a bit of the old fun factor

All the very best. So far, no wind. Hope it stays away long enough for you.

There was a weather warning out for yesterday, advising motorcyclists to stay off the roads. There is wind, and there is WIND - yesterday was gale force, so personally, unless you want to encourage accidents, you won't catch me riding in those conditions. However, I do agree, the more riding you do in wind, rain or on gravel, the better rider you will become. :2thumbsup

Last years Cold Kiwi was the last time I've been over the Annie, road works on the other side, there was 15k of gravel this side, 30k of gravel the other side, less what has been sealed in the last year, but is usually pretty sweet apart from ruts. It's little more than 2 hours non stop to to the Oasis.
