what do you do when your coming upto intersections and roundabouts?

Change down before the intersection, so that you are in a rev range where you can accelerate/brake easily.
That sounds clumsy...I know what I mean...perhaps you should avail yourself of a mentor.

That sounds like a good idea, we talk about all sort of BS on here but when it comes to knowing what and how, find a mentor and work with them otherwise we will end up with pages and pages on this thread trying to teach you how to ride. Any offers?

There is also a Wannabe & Newbie Bikers forum on here which is probably a better place to post for advise?

There is a KB mentor in HB...you just need to look for the little green "Me" beside the user name!

Middle road. Starts at havelock and goes to patangata pub. About 50ish kms long. Then take all the back roads from there back to haumoana area. I love that route. Would call it a loop perhaps.

Have you moved to the Bay? Or just keen to come and sample some bike nirvana?

There's a few 'loops' about the place, but also some brilliant 'up'n'back' jobs as well.

Behind Havelock North is Kahurunaki Rd to Elsthorpe/Patangata to Middle Rd return to HN. 120kms?
Or from Patangata, go to Waipawa, then to Tikokino/HW50 back to Fernhill. 180kms
Or from Waipawa, go to Waipukarau, then to Porangahau/longest place name/Wimbleton/Dannevirke and catch HW back to Fernhill. 380kms
No exit roads (that do have links to other similar roads) are Taihape Rd from Fernhill/Omahu, Puketitiri Rd, Emerald Hills.
Round the block is the name sometimes given to Napier/Taupo/ Manawatu Gorge/Dannevirke/Napier). Vinegar Hill to Feilding is the way to go. 650kms.
Over to Taupo then around the lake and back to Napier. 500ish kms
Or there is always Wairoa and back, or on to Gisborne (Tiniroto Rd makes a good loop section). 250 to 500kms
If you are really keen, then from Gisborne take the Waioeka Gorge to Opotiki, then round East Cape and back to Napier (good idea to overnight in Opotiki). 900kms.

Getting the picture?

I don't suppose it was you guys who went through dannevirke today, was it? A big group of tourers, a couple gsx14's and a vfr? And of those roads run through Ormondville by the way? Just driving around some of the roads around here in particular seem quite nice, if you can avoid the strange combo of overloaded farm utes and elderly drivers in sportscars?

MSTRS

Just moved.
Any of those roads run through Ormondville by the way?

You'll have to introduce yourself face-like. Unless you're one of those loner-types...
There's some great roads in that part. Easy to get lost though...eh, Wickle?
RDJase is the maestro for directions in there.

Quick question mate. Wheres a good place to get a bike wof? Not going to a vtnz dont want those clowns touching my bike.

I don't think any of the bike shops do Wofs. Get in touch with Dooly. VTNZ are the only other place with bike cert.

Ummm... yer what? You must be joking surely..

MSTRS
13th September 2010, 09:03
Nope. WOF issuer must be certified on vehicle-types and The Napier shops, at least, can't be bothered with the expense - so they just take the bike to VTNZ anyway.

NZsarge
13th September 2010, 09:09
Hmm I see the issue, but i've never been to a bike shop that could'nt issue a warrant but then again then again it's not high on my list of questions when walking into a new/strange bike shop so..

I dont mind VTNZ. I pull up, they ask is it ok. I say ummmmm yea its sweet. They look for anything that may be loose. Then they ask me to ride it so they can see me use the brakes. Then they issue the WOF.

That bloody Dooly. I take the the bike to him. He says he has to ride it to make sure its ok. Away he goes spinning up the rear with the front in the air. All i can hear is a bike screaming. Then when he comes back and tries out the front brakes with the rear wheel in the air. At least i get the WOF.:innocent:

Shit id be well keen. How does it go? Go for a ride on a defined route, and then back to the bluewater for drinks and poker after?

What pace is the ride at? Do all 500 people play poker?

We got a poker run on Saterday leaving Ikanui Road in Hastings at 2pm $10 entry gets you a bbq at finish and maybe a bar of choclate its a fun afternoon.

Nah. You ride a pre-arranged route to certain stop points, where you get a card. At the end, back at the Bluewater, you collate the 5 cards you have as your 'poker hand' with everyone else, and the best hand wins $500, next best $250, next best $150. Then you just mingle, have a drink, get a feed and wait for the ticket number draws for a heap of good stuff, including those major prizes.

Buying a ticket gets you in all the draws except the cash. You don't have to do the ride.

Yep Taradale road Mobil , 1.00pm . Over the winter months rides have been infrequent due to all the wet Saturdays , but pm me a contact number and I will text a reminder ( when I remember ) . Despite the urban legends its a moderate ride these days.
Possibility if there is support to do thursday night rides at 5.30pm from same location starting after labour weekend .

Hi all

Have been reading your posts. I work and HDC and have a handle on where road works are happening. Each week I can give you a heads up for the Hastings rural district, so you can get out and back home safely. Road patches with new chip on:
- Taihape above Crownthorpe
- Puketitiri Rd beyond Patoka
- Matahoura Rd
- Swamp Rd

Resealing starting this week in the urban areas and continuing for the next few weeks into the rural. Watch for signs and speed restrictions.

Take care

Here's a heads up for you lot in the Bay area.

I have posted a ride in the Manawatu w/end rides for this Sunday meeting at the Dannevirke BP at 10:00 am. Ride out 10:30 toward Wimbledon etc..
This is planned to be a ride at your own pace, there will be numerous stops for regathering so slower riders are welcome. I haven't traveled this road in some time so I this it'd be prudent to exercise some caution given the weather bomb we've been having recently.
Lunch hopefully at the Porangahau pub if it's not too busy then onto Waipukurau and so on... All round not going to be a rushed day, hope some of you can make it down.

We are currentlky right in the middle of the annual sealing season, plus plenty of other maintenance activities are happening.

Points of most note :-
SH2 north of Napier - Maintenance works around Devils Elbow, Capital project at Matahorua Gorge. Quite a lot of clean up work (slip clearance etc) from the recent storm event
SH5 - Drainage Works, pre-seal repairs
SH2 south of Napier - Sealing around Clive way, plus several sites programmed Waipawa to Pukeora. Seal widening along the Takapau Straights
SH50 - Several sealing sites down the full length

Meh, its all about how fast you can ride your bike on that road on that day. There is always loose gravel at the street sprints, its just usually we cause it.

Hi guys. Sorry, this is not a w/e ride. I put this up as a HB ride but got smacked on my fingers as I had already started the whole White Ribbon Ride as a separate thread. Suppose you could consider that a violation against netiquette if you were wanting to...

Anyhow, would love to see some HB riders participating here. Join in at any stage, ride for as long as you want. The HB leg goes from Waipukurau to Wairoa on 23 November.

Prior to Christmas around the Hasting District, there will be a tidy up of any outstanding road failures. So look out for repair sites and speed restrictions on:
- Taihape Rd from Pukehaumoamoa to the forestry headquarters
- Crownthorpe Settlement Rd at the Crownthorpe end
- Waitara Rd sealed section from the SH to Glen Falls
- Middle Rd in isolated sections
- Seafield in isolated sections
- Puketitiri Rd in isolated sections

Also as you are aware we have experienced bleeding seals. Where ever grit has been placed, there will be signs. Again Taihape Rd at Crownthorpe School and up near the foresty Headquarters has been identified as problem areas.

Apologies for the inconveniences , take care out there all.

Thanks for the update/s

On the issue of bleed, repairs and signs...
The Taupo Eastern Arterial has been open, what? 2 months? Great swathes of it have no chip and tar bleed is evident all over the place. Nothing to do with here, of course, but if new roads are so poor....
Also, on SH5, contractors are spreading grit/chip on tar bleed areas, without signage.

We are currently right in the middle of the annual reseals, with work programmed up SH2 around Morere and Nuhaka with some niggly areas still around Devils Elbow. Reseals up SH5 around the Te Pohue/Te Harato/Tarawera areas.

As always, maintenance repair patches are a routine occurence, no specific areas to mention. Also, just about to start the annual road renewal work (pavement recycling), will post the areas to be dug up when the programme is confirmed but first areas likely to be around the Mohaka area up SH5 and just south of the new southern ettension roadworks on the way to Paki Paki on SH50a.

I found the same thing with my NSR frame i used for the bucket, it appears Mr honda is a fan of making up his own non-standard seals and/or bearings:facepalm: i ended up machining everything so that its much cheaper from now on, rear wheel bearings X3 +2 seals $20.:woohoo:

My son picked up an RGV 250 a few weeks back which needed new tyres. Brought a set at 'the usual place'. Then they wanted $90.00 on top of the price to fit them, or $50.00 if I took the wheels off.:gob: Took the wheels off and went to Beaurepaires, $10.00 a wheel while you wait.
Might head to Taupo Sunday, although looks like could be wet again.

Went out to bulls clearing on sunday was a nice ride. a bit of tarmelt around but nothing bad. by the way back i started getting into a rhythm and started feeling at home on the bike.

I'm pretty sure the next bike i get will be a v twin, or torquey 4 that i don't have to rev the shit out of lol.

Even though it won't happen in ages i like the 750 shiver, dorsoduro, mana, gsx1400. I'd say all those bikes would be too big as a second bike but i can dream lol.

Dad is dead keen on a 2004 sv1000 he found on trademe hope like hell he buys it cause all he does atm is sit on trademe droolling over bikes he could buy.

has a good list of parts on it and is only 6k, done 44000. he wants to stick lower fairings on which i agree with.

Came back from Auckland today and was on the Taupo-Napier road from approx 2 - 3.30. Heaps of police and flashing lights. A bunch of riders came the other way. They were moving fast. Some strugglers dripfeeding after. Felt sorry for the guy with a black Bonny (I think it was) as he clearly was last of them. And the one the police managed to catch. lol.

We were on the road around that time. HP  were parked up just before glengary and we saw the large group of riders not long after. Maybe they should of been cruising like we were enjoying the HB weather. 

It was nice in HB. I got wet between Hammy and Taupo thou. And we all know what happens at the end of the month, so yes, they got it wrong.

Not too sure, but was a bit of a surprise!:innocent:At least one of them had the window down, just as well we have nice quiet 'zorsts, so didn't hear us comming:woohoo: I "flashed" that group of bikes, they were obviously too staunch to take heed. I'm still recovering from the "big brekkie" at "pub and grub"

Wayne Moult is organising a ride up to East Cape Opotiki thru Gorge and home Via Gisborne, will be an overnight stop some were I think. When I get more details I will post up and if any one is interested ya can tag along. This will not be a fast ride but gentle and quick in some places, what I meen is it will be at a good pace.
Unfortunately I will not be able to make it unless somebody pays me this week.

The Turangi crowd may once again be coming over on Sunday to sample our roads :niceone: and weather :sunny:
And as per usual, I've been asked to play tour guide. But...
I haven't been out for a while, and don't know what the weather bomb a few weeks back did to the likes of Middle Rd/Kahuranaki Rd etc. I thought that maybe Puketitiri Rd to Balls Clearing would be OK. Can anyone confirm?
