Just spent another hour fibreglassing up the catch tray, this stuff takes fucking ages, be another couple of hours work just to get it how I want, then another hour or two to tidy it up a bit
added 40mm to the width and glassed the side back on, raised the height on the outside to 170mm and started on the inside wall, weather turned to shit so it's not going off as quick today, just need to sort the hole in the front where the radiator hose goes, probably get some different hoses to lift it up and over the side instead of through

Highly unlikely that bikes will run at that one. The organisation that has taken it over is not bike friendly. I hope I'm wrong though... Quads maybe - they're good TV.

The cheating chum with the fast fingers on the key board was CORRECT, he did build them for me FACT! Probbally would not have said a thing if it was non complient Ohlin's parts used as that would not look good for the Ohlin's brand name and he has told me many a time that Ohlin's do read these threads and has asked me to modify posts in the past when I was refering to a different brand of shocks he is now the agent for which are a shit load cheaper than Ohlin's and he says as good if not better also. ( I am assuming of course this is whom you were reffering to)

I only said what I said to prove to the scene that you need to be very carefull what some people get over others, ie, more tech checks need taking place to get rid of the cheating that goes down out there big time.

As already said, I could provide photo's of other bikes that the illegalaties of the machine for the class and its rules stand out like dam dogs balls, but will not do that as this is my battle and not there's.

But it was myself and my mechanic that worked on the bike at all race meetings that season, and we both say they were never used in any of the races apart from Wanganui and as there was NO protests against me, there is NO PROOF!

Bingo Grumph- Silly, entertaining, full of shit I may be, stupid I am not! That is FACT by the way.

And by me starting the cheating thread, does not technically bring the sport into disrepute either, as this is the internet and NOT the real world, another fact provided by my Lawyer.

I asked the mods to lock the thread down, as it was gaining to much international attention for the wrong reasons, so once again I actually did the sport a favour.

He has already proven where his true ethics lay by admitting to building these forks that he believed were going to be used against other Ohlins's Race tech paying customers

So testimony from him is a total waste of time, again as there is NO PROOF they were ever actually raced with in the NZ championships.

Oh do tell  what happened and is she OK?

We were in 2nd tailing wazza having just snuck past alex and I lost her through turn 1/2.. transition was prob too quick for her plus I got on the gas hard and fast.. think it would have been all just too much too fast - she didn't even know what happened (and didn't know alex was about 5mm from running her over!)

She is happy and unhurt and looking forward to next race though! and supplying us beer... and coke

Pity Alex didn't have a camera on so we could all watch it

Mint day at Levels, pretty cold for a start

Had three good races against some fast pensioner and although I could get in front I couldn't quite beat him, pretty happy with the progress of the new swinger he's working things out pretty quickly and doesn't get bothered when shit gets out of shape or when we're getting up right up close to the other outfits

Goober managed to break his passenger once again by caving his ribs in and didn't do race 3 and Phil had a good time trying the riders seat on the Agip bike for a change

Fast Eddie

Yip must get more cameras- I know Goober had one onboard, so must try get that footage..

I have a camera which I forgot again, and Phil has one so thats three.. Wazza and AJ just need one each :)

I'll get more organized and bring laptop and cables next time so we can grab all the footage after the race and I can take it home and make decent videos out of it - right now im just putting them straigh up un-edited.. But I have an editing program so we could make some fairly decent/good videos to watch..

heres some onboard from yesterday Phil and I playing around as the windle wasn't on form at this point, we sussed it in race 3 though (but lost Ella)

I'm happy enough now though, didn't really think about the filter as it was brand new and the fuelmizer I had hooked up to it showed 42psi all the times we watched it.. Another early start and when we got there a fairly heavy frost which soon thawed as the day warmed up

Graeme/Colin were unable to make it after cooking a motor at the last round but Alex had his LCR back up and running with the later motor and had made the trip down so we could still put 5 on the grid

I tried Alex’s sidecar for fit and found it a bit on the small side with both shoulders jammed hard against the bodywork

Bit of a change around since last round with Phil who’d normally be on the Windle with Kai riding the AGIP bike and Ella swinging for Kai
Practice

We got a 12 minute practice session and sped up lap after lap, about lap 5 some padding had come adrift and we pulled back into the pits to put it back in place but didn’t make it back out before the chequered flag came out

I’d changed the handlebars before the event to bring them closer to me and it made the sidecar feel far better, we popped the fairing off and gave it a look over, topped up the gas and got ready to go

We were a bit surprised to find ourselves going off P1 with Alex/Andy P2 and Goober/Matt P3 all within about .5 sec of each other as it certainly didn’t feel like a good session but our best lap was slightly quicker than out best from last time

Race 1
I got caught out on the start when the lights went on and off a bit quicker than I expected and that was enough to give Alex/Andy the jump on me, Goober/Matt were also asleep on the line and Kai/Ella beat them through T1/T2 before they came through onto the back straight

Alex had said he thought he’d take it easy but there didn’t seem to be anything easy about it and Goober/Matt were only a metre or so behind us as well
Three laps in and I go for an inside pass off the end of the straight but don’t quite have the room, Alex/Andy seem to get better drive onto the straight and always pull a length or two on us which we make up by the time we go off the end, lap four and I think I’ve got it but Alex/Andy have a good line up the inside and I can’t make it stick

One lap to go and we’re running nose to tail as we hit the hairpin, I push it into the chicane a bit harder aiming to try and drive out faster before the line and have a bit of a moment where I think I’m not even going to make the turn into the chicane, I gather it back up but it gives Alex/Andy more than enough to beat us over the finish line

Race 2
My start is good but Alex/Andy is better, I pass them down the straight but Alex/Andy soon comes back past, it’s a carbon copy of race 1 and then as we follow Alex through T1/T2 he runs off the track, he later admits he was looking around to see where I was

He loses very little ground and gets back past at his favourite passing stop at the end of the back straight; although we’re right on him for the entire race distance we can’t get back in front before the flag and once again we’re getting very untidy into the chicane again on the last lap trying to catch him

Race 3
We’re into it from the start and Alex takes pity on me and lets me through, we lead him the next 3 laps inches apart

He goes for an outside pass through the two lefts before the hairpin and we run side by side through both of them and then I cut across his front through the right into the hairpin
I’m on the gas onto the straight thinking I might have him this time as the white flag comes out out and push it in a bit harder on the brakes off the end of the straight

Alex/Andy however push it in even harder to the point Alex later says it was getting fairly untidy and spectators report it weaving all over the place
We come up behind Phil/Matt to lap then at the hairpin and although we’re right on Alex/Andy once again they lead us to the line

One casualty for the day when Kai got a bit over excited when he fixed a problem and found his bike was going properly pushed it a bit hard and lost Ella off the back in her first race meeting so that’s drinks for the next round sorted

Overall a good day out with Will’s second meeting done, we’d pushed a bit harder than I’d planned trying to stick with Alex and getting close to our nationals times but it all felt good and next time we’ll try and dial it up a bit more as we’ve got a pensioner we want to beat

A DNF in race 1 with an electrical fault, bit better result in Race 2

A great start in race one with better lap times after changes to bike, picked up a position to 8th and close to challenging for 7th. Midway in the race developed an electrical fault causing us to have to pull off the track- we'll be attempting to get back in the game for race 2, we know the bike is now handling better and once we can sort the electrics we know we can hold and gain position in race 2:) both the lads are ok, and even more motivated for race 2- still happy with progress since picking up the bike a week ago!

Race 2/scheduled for 15 laps: A stunning start from the boys and the whole field entered turn one in a bunch- by lap ten we had battled with the Japanese for 8th, and set a new personal best of 1.43.271 when the race was called due to an unknown reason for a red flag- no restart due to laps completed, and we are excited to announce our first world championship race result of 8th place for race 2:) final results for standings due to our electrical fault in race one will follow shortly, and a detailed summary of the weekend as soon as possible. An epic race and experience!

Yea was a mint day at Ruapuna, fun wee track - missed having a blast around it.

Windle was great in practice and the first race, really pulled strong and gave no issues at all, good starts off the line and Ella had plenty of fun and didn't fall off :D or should I say I didn't throw her off.

2nd race was good, first lap but then the motor sort of went flat, like it was running out of fuel, remembering i hadn't put any in and we had done 2 sessions already so I nursed it home and got myself a DNF which is always great.
Checked fuel tank, still had a bit in it but thought maybe was too little for the pick up. Filled it to the brim and got ready for last race.

Last race, warm up lap was fine. Lined her up, Lights go out and she went flat straight away off the line, bizarre. Its a different issue to what it used to do, doesn't surge or misfire, just bascially bogs down/goes flat. We finished the race and still managed to beat Phil n Stephen on the Agip bike who were getting quicker every lap.

But yea, sadly Windle still appears to be hanging on to an issue.. I'm going to carry on looking at the fueling side of things. It is definitely better with the pre filter before the pump removed. And I thought it was sorted as the first 2 sessions it was flying.

final note the windle is very consistent with beiing good for 1 or 2 sessions and then runs like shit for the last 2 sessions.. done it like this for the last 3 meetings now..

just bizarre, but nevermind. I recon must be close to sorting it. Put a better fuel pump on next, check all the fuel lines for deterioration/blocks and will have a look at the fuel tank - allthough still bizarre that it can run mint for 2 complete sessions/races with no issues, and then decide to starve itself of fuel for the afternoon.. anyway - rambling on, recon we have it sorted pretty soon with just a few more trial and error attempts.

Still happy with how it went, chassis feels mint, brakes are mint, everything is mint except these niggling issues with the motor.. its never stalled, its never cut out completely, it always starts etc.. so hoping a bit more fiddling with fuel delivery and it will be all come together. We are starting to panel and paint it too now so hopefully that will be done for Wanganui.

Having worked through the Windle in question whilst it was in Dave's possession, I still believe the issues you are experiencing arise from either the pickup or the fuel return position. The issues you describe are EXACTLY what Dave had going on.

The pre-filter was put there as there was NO filter at all, so any crap introduced to the tank was going straight through the pump.
The filter used was a recommended by Steve/Bob so I'm certain he knew what to suggest (being a mechanic by trade and a very successful sidecar racer/mechanic). If you choose to use no filter, at least take a spare pump or ensure your fuel is filtered before going into the tank.

The return line enters the tank directly above the pickup, possibly causing aeration of the fuel. This was to be rectified but Dave sold the chair before we could look at it. As the tank was originally built/designed for a carburetted 600 (Yam YZF600 Thundercat), maybe the pickup is too restricted?

The fuel lines were checked for any blockages at the HAGD when the issues become most apparent. It ran mint for a fair bit of the morning, and then started playing up. The only parts that weren't fully tested were the regulator )as the correct tools to do so were not at the track) and the injectors (have no idea when these were checked for flow rates, had the filters replaced or cleaned).

The two best part number fuel filters for EFI sidecars are Repco EF120 or EF 135 depending on if you want straight through, or 90 degree.
They are the correct line size, can handle the pressure & are compact.
They should be mounted in foam to prevent the element breaking off inside them, causing a restriction & should be replaced before every season.

Having worked through the Windle in question whilst it was in Dave's possession...

Cheers - I'll let you know how we get on :) Yea, it was actually quite awful when I first got it from Dave, it would lurch violently on and off, like someone was snapping the gas from full throttle to completely shut constantly while in first gear.. it was so brutal - thought I was going to snap the chain or root the gear box.. we've come a long way since then.. with replacement injectors, looms, throttle bodies etc etc its a bit different now, just feels like a carb'd bike that is running out of fuel slowly in the floatbowls.. that sort of flat, dropping to 3 cyl feeling.. pretty much what Drews sounded like at Nats.
Tanks off for a look, new fuel pump in and will try a different setup up with filtration and regulation. Pity is I have another fuel tank here but it makes up the left kneeler and I'm too tall so I don't fit in the bike with that one fitted.

He should just sell it to me

The other tank is almost the same as the smaller one, that's the hi capacity IOM tank , so I'd say the pickup and return is more or less the same. You also can't fit that tank unless you've moved the battery, ECU, regulator and chopped off the side of the seat/kneeler.

Strange that you say it was lurching that bad, it never did that while I rode it at the HAGD, only the full throttle slow starvation, which it would correct if you rolled off from full throttle. On the Saturday of the HAGD, we fitted a spare pump (new one) and it partially solved the problem but it returned again, so we fitted the first pump again, and again it solved it only to return a little while later.

The Sunday racing, chair was fine for 3 laps then died as if completely out of fuel. Rode back to pits after the race had ended and it would rev cleanly and still appeared to have full power, although not able to run on track to check.
Next race we borrowed the pump from Pate's chair just to make sure (a known good pump from a thou injected) that the pumps we were using weren't the cause. Same issue, good for 3-4 laps, died as if total starvation of fuel (was a FULL tank).

The other tank is almost the same as the smaller one, that's the hi capacity IOM tank..

Sure is.. have chatted to the IOM riders who used to own it and ran it at the TT

Anyway - will update after the next weekend racing.

Still very odd that it is intermittant if it is fuel starvation.. It's run a practice session and a full race with no starvation at all.. then all of a sudden it decides its not getting enough fuel - never mind. Will keep trying with the trial and error. Bound to crack it soon.

And yea - that tank has been fine with a high horsepower FZR1000 motor sucking the fuel so a little bizarre now its too restrictive but the carbs have float bowls I guess and fuel injection is a bit more sensitive to the fuel supply - will fiddlge around some more

This probably could have been sorted a lot quicker if we had the dash cluster and could use the OBD.. or even run it on a rolling road/dyno but c'est la vie. Money has been a big hinderance as has living in Dunedin with no track close and too many annoying police policing the public roads haha

Our chair would run good and starve after a couple sessions, at the time I thought I was imagining it.

Bizarre eh? you'd think if it was restricted it would starve all the time..

What was yours in the end? just fuel pump or pickup/fuel tank as well? You've run it since then and its all sorted?

Pickup filter thingie was full of crap, never opened the pump up but I imagine it is too.

I'd check the pressure reg isn't blocked. Running rich presents the same as starving.
