One more day of racing tomorrow, so if you can pull a sicky pop over to manfield and have a look see.

Just going to fit up some tyre racks in the van to give us some more floorspace (providing Pig gets his A into G, so probably unlikely) and adding some interior lighting, Sidecar is prepped and ready to go except for putting the catch tray back on, we just have the bodywork to pick up Tuesday from the signwriter and we're good to go

Apparently so according to the e mail from the organisers yesterday, poor old Russell got a few choice replays from various aggrieved female sidecar competitors.
We're all loaded this morning, Jay's bike & pinky & all the crap that goes with them in the new XLWB Merc & we are at about 45 percent full compared with the Transit at about 80 percent with just pinky. Loaded the GSX at 45 degrees in the front & it takes up just over the first metre. Sweet as!

Its not an NZSRA condition. Its from the BSTT committee. Every competitor has to help out this year. These were the jobs required of us. We all have to do our bit. Or we could choose not to enter, and don't race. I choose to enter, and do my bit.....

Of course that may not affect you though.
It doesn't have to be the actual competitor, it could be a hitch hiker you picked up, as long as your team organised that person.

MNZ permitted meeting so I don't think they get that choice, I can't find the bit in the rulebook which says "If you don't man the gate or the BBQ or the T shirt stand you wont get points" I'd be picking less than 30% of competitors will do anything

Geez Warwick, I'm a bit surprised you think these things run themselves & are getting all rule booky about it. Have a think about it on your drive up & hopefully you will work out that all meetings that you Benefit from have a huge volunteer input. Maybe this is your chance to do an hours work to give a wee bit back.
It was run the same way last year, only Adam chose to refuse & everyone else did their bit.
It's not just sidecars, it's all classes that are helping out. As it is I suspect this will be the last bazza as a bunch of kiwis decided not to support the Aussie one earlier this year, preferring instead to run their national championship, it seems the Aussies picked up on the lack of support from our end & have returned the favour at this event with about one third entering this year compared to last year.
If you would rather stay home than do an hours work for the benefit of all, that is an option you should explore.
Here's a deal, I'm manning the barbecue, if you don't do your bit, don't ask me for a sausage.
Christ man, ask my mother in law to do your shift if you can't do it, just get off your arse & make something happen.

I realise it can't always be helped but he scheduling of the Oz meeting is shit if you want to run Nationals, I'd love to go and do it but we wont ever consider it if it means not supporting meeetings here

Reading the comments here about this is quite interesting from the SI...If the BSTT isn't financial enough to pay people to man the gate or cook the BBQ there's definitely something very wrong there. Go to the Burt to see how it can and should be done.

Theres about 936 marshalls that need to be payed for.
plus Robert Cockrane.
its all about giving back and helping run an event that is in reality quite bloody cheap to enter.
the points are what you get for placing in a race, its how they determine who to give the best in show rosette to.

You would think I'm exaggerating aye, but when they heard that you and your mates were coming up, MNZ stipulated 47 marshalls on each flag point, just incase they need to tip you fat cunts back on your wheels.

Motorbike racing is fast going out of fashion as a spectator sport. I had an ex WSBK winner at my dining room table a few weeks back, he rode in front of 350,000 plus spectators back in the day, these days we are lucky to have little more than our personal groupies watching, that's if we have any. That's where the money has gone.

what does the burt pay for track hire over the events?
leading question there....yes, I'd say much, much less than HD charges. But on the other hand they have to attract spectators from much further away too. When you see how much Venture Southland does to assist promotion of the events of the week you realise that it's done to generate income for the area - and it does.
Oh, and remember that the land Teretonga stands on is owned by the Southland Sports car club...who had the foresight to get in and secure it for the future when they could. Wyndham as a street circuit is costly to set up but the locals realise the benefits to the local economy. I'm told that more than one local township would be keen to step in if Wyndham ever drops out....
Paid marshalls ? Yep, we pay them here too. Petrol vouchers, lunches, often more. If HD management (track not club) have a pool of paid marshalls, do they insist on the club using them ?
Bob - yep, spectators are hard to attract these days, maybe harder in Auckland than elsewhere....what does that tell you about the location of the meeting ?

If I can just clarify that for you, It was the board at MNZ who refused to allow the sidecars to run part of their championship with the Suzuki series, Ensuring there were full grids for all rounds, Whilst allowing them to participate in Australia, How or why they thought that was better is beyond me, Their logic was just mindless and ruined a class at National level.

Truth is, the way it stands, clubs are loosing money. Period.
Or would you like to pay a minimum of $500 a meeting entry fee so clubs can break even??
Do we want to continue racing at any events/venues in the future?? I know what my answer is. So I'll help the clubs that require our input to run the meetings.

When's a shit time to travel and get time off work? The info I was provided with suggested that had the format put forward to the board been followed, Numbers would have been greatly increased for both the Suzuki series AND relevant NZSBK rounds, Win,win from where I sat, May have lost some from some areas but that would have been more than compensated for overall, Can't see how it was better for the clubs to be forced to run races for a reduced grid, Or the profile of the class, Pretty pathetic to watch 7 or 8 rigs on track at Taupo.

With the current resurgence of numbers in our class, things will improve.

December for most people working in retail
Numbers greatly increased? only because the NI Suzuki series which got good numbers last year all of a sudden gets called the "Nationals", not that sure it'd make any difference to the numbers that come south
Not that it'd really make that much difference but we'd be unlikely to make that trip for one day meetings but Alex probably would as I think he is going to this year
With the current resurgence of numbers in our class, things will improve.

Possibly some of you guys should be afforded an explanation on how the bazza is structured financially.
The event is run by three clubs, NZPCRA, NZSRA & CMCRR. These three clubs fund the event & if the event makes money the profit is split three ways. If the event loses money, the shortfall is split three ways, which means that by this time next week the NZSRA could be flat broke, (last year It broke virtually exactly even)
Your club, if you are a member of the NZSRA is involved in running the event, therefore you are responsible to help out, even if you are only ever used to being on the take while all the usual suspects pitch in & make it all magically happen for you.
If this is all too much to bear you should seriously consider wether you want to be a member or not.
In short, do your bit or fuck off.

Bypassing the fuel relay? Which relay? The electrical power supply one or the fuel pressure regulator?
The quick disconnect under the tank? That was added after the issues were found, It's a dual shut-off style out of a Triumph 1050i so shouldn't have caused an issue
Ditched that quick release at the tank - the valve inside it which closes when you disconnect, was opening and closing with the coupling connected and was allowing a mere 200ml of fuel flow per minute at best and at times the valve would close and allow no flow.. no need for it anyway, same with the fuel filter fitted, it would allow about 400mls fuel flow through it at best - ditched that, replaced all the fuel lines too.. with new set up - free flow is 2.5 litres per minute... freeee willy!
The fuel pump relay - to answer which relay question. It was turning the pump on an off... not because of the tip over switch tho, think it was just the relay had problems energizing/staying energized or something, call it fucked and then finally it gave up all together. Ditch that little sucker and run a direct power feed now with switch and fuse. Although I will buy another relay just in case I want to use it one day, one on ebay I shall bid on.
And finally, the fuel pump itself gave up - probably because it was trying to suck the fuel from the restricted fuel line, or because it was getting a shit power supply or whatever thats my guess anyway. So new pump fitted too..
Think thats all it was in the end, had the fuel tank out and looked it over with my boss at work - its design is fine, the return line position is fine, breather is fine and the outlet is actually quite good, it has a little sump to avoid any starvation/fuel supply loss during cornering g force.
As far as the rest of the bike goes its mint, bit uncomfortable so will fine tune the seat a bit, gear shifts are a bit tough for my weak chicken legs.. not sure if there is much I can do about it.. handles nicely though - I have really enjoyed riding it the last couple of sessions now that it runs good, makes great power, gets off the line and out of corners quickly. Just need to spend the time on the track with Ella so she can build up the skill and confidence - at the moment we are going 2 minute laps at Puna in the dry and... well.. I'm still being asked to slow down. So a bit of team building and work needed there :D but all in good fun.. I'm enjoying the seat time
Got a shit load of work to do now though, polish frame, fix the fairings which got all fucked up after Wazza decided to reverse into me at the hairpin, paint it, new battery, stripping the loom further, have got rid of most of the extra shit like the lights and instrument panel and stuff - will remove everything that isnt in use and will probably cut and add or remove length of wires to route it nicely. I have drawn some nice schematics and have unpinned all the wiring not cut anything.. so theoretically it could all be put back together.. but I plan to change the length of some of the wires so it sits better in the sidecar so probably a waste of time but meh.. better this way incase something happened and the bike doesnt run you can just put the wires back in the harness plugs.
Trying to get the trailer covered in as well for the long mish up north. And get the old tow car ready for its 1,000's of kms driving to get to Wangas and back and tour around the North Island a bit while we're up there.
So has the Agip bike gotten its steering problems sorted?
Yea man, a while a go I posted pics and stuff, I stripped it right down, replaced all bearings and bushes and tie rods, rebuilt all brake calipers and pistons, cleaned everying, brake lines etc and pulled the brake bias system apart to find it had fallen apart internally anyway.
After all that, and with the brake bias dialled in, she handles the same as before - its possible the broken brake bias setup was causing the steering issues (it fishtailed or swerved under braking)
That would be the tip over switch, factory fitting in the two wheeler that stops the pump should it end upside down. It ought to be glued /siliconed up inside (as in a sidecar the forces acting upon it are different).
Yea, someone had already done that? If it wasn't you guys then it must have been Speedway Grant down here when he first put the motor in..
I think Ella needs a tip over switch
I think she was one, everytime I flip her over she gets turned off...
If you're building a tube frame and worried about cracking, set it up with the appropriate valve etc to hold air pressure in the tubing. Makes cracks easy to find too.
Thats an awesome Idea.. if only it could be done in retro to the windle.. too much hassle for me.

Oh yea, Agip bike is being run down here by my old swinger Phil and his new swinger Stephen.. they look to be having a blast on it and are currently in negotiations with their respective wives about purchasing the outfit off me..
Hopefully they get that sorted before Nationals or something as then I would have the money to run Nats - if not then never mind, they are helping us out making up numbers at club days anyway

Early Molly bike for sale built in 1996 on IOM
At some point in its life I believe it had a Windle swing arm assembly fitted.
Comes Fitted with CBR 600 F-sport engine (tuned with cams) running a Power commander 3.
This is the PC35 engine with injection (predecessor to the 600rr motor)
Maxton shocks all round
NRP exhaust fitted beginning of this season
2013 Tony Baker front end
7 Wheels and a box full of spares
The chassis is very strong and has served us very well in the last two seasons and only reason for sale is we feel its time to progress and move on.
This bike would make an excellent starter Bike for anyone wishing to take up the sport and the Bike is ready to race.
The only fault is the main Fairing although still usable is worse for wear and could really do with replacing

This still leaves the hour from when security goes home at 7.00 am to fill.
Trace & I will be doing Friday morning as is sounds like a lot more fun than a sleep in, that just leaves us sat & sun one hour to fill. Means we won't have to round up a reluctant new gatekeeper every hour. Hopefully someone staying at the track can do the other two days.

He sits a jack under the kneeler to get the rear wheel up, a block of wood under the chair frame to get the chair wheel off and the front just uses the jack under the front of the frame.
It's easy to get under the chair, apart from the wheel tracks, there's only a couple of braces across the frame. Easy oil changes.

But, it's prolly for the best. If a solo rider comes off his bike, it's clear in the rules that they mustn't rejoin after all.
There was no damage to Al, but his helmet is scraped and clearly compromised. A big crash after that wee off, and who knows what that might have spelled.
We're in agreement that him coming off, is race retirement every time.

The short straight before the dipper he made ground on us, but we can't get full throttle before I hook third gear for fear of the bike going straight off the left hand side of the track. I think his and our bikes are pretty even in speed.

Seems like a long time watching it but the ambulance is there inside a couple of minutes
Can't really see how the oil was spread across the whole width of the track though?
I can, if you look at the 1.40 mark you will see a certain old chap do a u turn on his outfit & park it back where it was for some reason, directly after it had spent some time upside down. He either rode it exactly where a mysterious oil trail had already been, or dropped it himself.
Fucking annoying when people are completely oblivious to the obvious.
I was asked to re scrutineer said machine after structural repairs courtesy of gordies mig welder & it was still chock full of oil in the tray.

pretty simple, watch basil tip the bike back up and ride off not once but twice, almost looks the same line as the oil down? did anyone check the bike before he moved it?
Clearly not. He seemed far more interested in getting back to racing than anything else to be perfectly frank.
The oil trail went right back up pit lane to his pit.
Maybe there needs to be a compulsory trailer ride after a bike or sidecar Go down. That was just stupid.

Thanks to you all for the advice over weekend, I was feeling much more comfortable by Sunday. Bring on the Tri Series, I'm hanging to get out there again.:Punk:

Moving the motor is gonna have to wait. Our brakes need the time we have, to get some upgrades.

Cheryl and I went up to Waikato Hospital last night to see how Dave Dibben was getting on. He has to have a hip replacement op as he had broken his hip socket and the op had been deferred a couple of times due to work load, but was rescheduled for 7am this morning. Other than that he seems in high spirits although he was a bit pissed off about missing out on the trip to the Burt Munroe and Cams meetings in the South Island.
Mick Alton had picked up Steve Bonney's wife Michele at the airport and bought her down to Waikato and we caught up with them last night also. Steve is still in the High Dependency Ward and Michele will be staying with us for a while so she can visit him each day. At this stage I haven't got more details but it's likely to be a long recovery for him.

At the bazza at Eastern Creek earlier this year a couple of wheat farmers with an f2 from out west had a 8500km return trip.
They had a fairly new XR6 ute & carried heaps of gas cans so they could get through all the outback places without having to pay NZ prices for their petrol.
95kmh was the chosen speed for best fuel economy & the daily rest stop was half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunrise, otherwise they were almost guaranteed to nail a 'roo crossing the road.
They didn't have to catch an expensive boat ride in a substandard ferry however.

Here's some of the action from the weekend. I'd say none of this will be used to any degree in the documentary, but I think it makes for OK viewing. Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere on here.

Does anybody know what product the poms use on their unpainted f2 chassis to make them so clean & shiny?
Pinky is getting the full pre season strip & I'd like to get it cleaned up while it's apart.

I've heard "duck oil" which i've seen advertised but never seen here in NZ which would seem to be a water repellent used after the polish - and no Scrivy, I don't know if that's like Goat Oil...
Gun shops may have something similar to duck oil.

Cheers for that Grandad.
Money saving tip for those towing trailers.
Go & get brand new number plates for your trailer so it is registered as a 2014 model. You will be on a three year wof initially & then going back to a one year, never to be 6 month wof again, it soon pays for itself.
It wont however help you when you shit a wheel bearing an hour out from Manfield at 11pm on a Friday night.
So if you do it, keep an eye on stuff yourself.

Marketing Chemicals www.mchem.co.nz in AK make a product called Metalbrite. Transport operators like Bonneys who run tankers use it to keep their gear clean . It is a mild acid so you cant leave it on for long , & make sure you get it all off with a hose.
Don't know if that helps.
