I'd check the pressure reg isn't blocked. Running rich presents the same as starving.

Binned my solo while leading the open post classic championship at
Taupo today, broke it in half & loaded it on to the trailer in two large bits.
Should be ok for the next meeting.
, I have plenty of spares.
Fortunately the guy that was directly behind me in points had two dnf's also, but not in such a dramatic way.
Enduring memory will be Wendy in the pickup van getting on the radio & saying "Its pretty bad, I think we're going to need a couple more people to load it on the trailer" it was a strangely pmsl situation.

King of Ruapuna Rd1

The weather was looking a bit dodgy on the way to the track alternating between clear and cold and light showers but the forecast for the day wasn’t too bad
At the track and set up and Goober mentions they’ll probably want us up first to dry the track and sure enough the Clerk of the course comes over to see if we’re happy being first up
When he mentions the race order at riders briefing Alex immediately asks why we’re first up and gets the reply “You didn’t drop any oil last time so we’ll make you first up”

Practice

Half the track is wet with some puddles and damp spots, we’re getting bugger all traction and some good slides and a few laps in Alex/Andy do a 720 degree spin through one of the lefts before the dipper Andy stays on and avoids a beer shout and with the session over find Goober/Matt on pole with Alex/Andy on 2, Me and Will on 3, Phil/Stephen on 4 and Kai/Ella on 5

Race 1

The sidecar is lighting up big time but Goober/Matt in front of me are asleep on the line and Alex can’t get the power down either

We lead off into T1 and half expecting one of the others to come past, unknown to me Kai/Ella had got the hell launch and come from P5 to right behind me

Kai/Ella slow up out of pothole and Goober/Matt show off by passing them half sideways and nearly filling their pants in the process

We’re lighting up and sliding sideways out of T1 every lap and at a couple of other spots on the track but it’s starting to dry out

Alex/Andy come past Goober/Matt exiting pothole about lap 3 and have the hammer down after us and he has a bit of a look around the outside into the dipper and then up the inside onto the straight

We get the white flag and then as we come into the hairpin Alex/Andy finally go around the outside of us, we chase them through the next few corners but he beats us over the line by about 3 bike lengths

Race 2

Goober/Matt don’t cock this one up and he’s into it hard from lights out with Kai/Ella getting another brilliant start from the back of the grid but heading through to the hairpin it’s Goober/matt, Me and Will and Alex/Andy Me, Alex/Andy go right around the outside of us at the hairpin and set off after Goober/Andy

Goober/Matt are using all the track plus a bit of the grass and as they come along from the infield sweeper into the next right get a bit untidy under brakes, get a bit loose and flick sideways before it and end up half spinning

Alex/Andy go around the front of them and Me and Will go across the back while they’re going from the left ripple strip to the right ripple strip

We chase Alex/Andy for a couple of laps then get a good run onto the straight and pull past them. I’m expecting them to come back into T1 but it’s not until the left before the infield sweeper they go around us, we close them back down but can’t get back in front before the flag

Race 3

Goober/Matt are taking it a bit easy off the line and Alex/Andy lead into T1

Tracks drying out and we’re trying a bit harder, I’ve got a bit more speed down the straight and catch right up on Alex/Andy into T1 and the hairpin, I try up the inside of the next right hander and just about get the front knocked off when Alex/Andy cut across the front with a few mm to spare

Alex/Andy let me though and then next lap do an outside pass through the left before the infield sweeper, Will is looking across and later says he’s sure Andy was sliding down our bodywork as they go through

We get back in front again and Alex/later said he wasn’t sure he’d get us back but they manage another pass at the hairpin, were right on the back of them up out of the dipper but I push it into the sweeper a bit hard and end up out too wide and Alex/Andy take another win with Me and Will a few bike lengths back

All in all a pretty good meeting for everyone with the new rider/passenger combinations working out good

Busy couple of weekends coming up with Levels next weekend and then Ruapuna the weekend after

I haven't ran it past Neil yet though.
I know the cylinders are good for over 45hp each at 125cc.
Sidecars do of course have plenty of room for pipes so the cylinders can be a little bigger.

A jbb is one of these a flying web set up I actually thought of it myself based on the DKW triple bearing seals set up but the clever Frog beat me by only 30 years or so.

I think they've just put them in the easiest place to mount them

The beemer has a plain big end under pressure in there.
It is also where the beemer stores its oil (unless it has been dry sumped)
Oil and petrol has a habit of mixing it would end up removing the oil from the bearings.
Ok with a ball or roller they only need a mist.

Boxer design is ok Velocette did a nice one with reed valve induction in the 50's

King of Levels Rd3 13/09/14

The weather wasn’t looking too flash on the way down and arriving at the and at rider briefing the meeting was declared wet but from standing in the pissing rain we already knew that
We put the wets on in a couple of minutes then spent 15 minutes laughing at Goober, Matt and Pig doing theirs

Practice
We take it a bit easy, there’s quite a bit of aquaplaning going on and although in a few places traction isn’t too much of a problem there’s also quite a few areas where we’re lighting up the rear and sliding quite a bit

For some reason our qualifying times aren’t put up so we decide Goober/Matt can have pole, Goober being a bit of a pussy says that’s not going to happen so we relegate him to grid 2 and I take Grid 1 with Phil/Steve and Alex/Andy running in a motor on the row behind us

Kai has decided not to play in the wet due to not having any wet tyres fitted up and drags his camera out to take a few photos instead

Alex tells us he’ll be taking it easy running his motor in but as it turns out his idea of taking it easy seems to be different than everyone else in the world

Race 1
No traction and still spinning the rear as we click into second and then third, Goober/Matt are on the outside and trying to go around us but we hold them out and lead onto the back straight

The next few laps we’re pushing as hard as we can, onto the back straight traction is good but down the straight we hit the odd puddle and aquaplane or the rear spins up and we’re getting a lot of little slides before it hooks up

I can hear Goober/Matt right behind us the whole race but the white flag is out and they haven’t made it past or even got a nose up alongside until I run wide out of the left after the hairpin and they out drag us into the chicane and they take the win by .2 of a second

Just before race 2 starts we swap back over to slick tyres much to the disgust of Goober/Matt as it takes them 15-20 minutes to swap their rear wheel

Race 2
I thought it’d be a bit wetter than it is but the grid up lap shows it’s pretty much dry with a few puddles in various places

I get off the line ok but it’s lighting up and we’re going sideways across into Goober and then Alex/Andy go past both us before Turn 1, they’ve decided to put the hammer down and start pulling away down the back straight, we haul them in under brakes and have a look up the inside off the end but can’t quite do it

Running wide exiting the hairpin Goober/Matt pull alongside and then get better drive off the left and pull in front into the chicane, we’re right behind them going into it looking to get a better run into turn 1 when Matt doesn’t get out enough for the left in the middle and they get fairly untidy when it picks up the chair wheel

We go around the outside with the chair wheel on the edge of the track and the rear sliding sideways and they nearly t-bone us as we go past

We start hauling Alex/Andy in and get a bit closer but they’ve still got good 4-5 bike lengths on us when the flag comes out

Looking at Goobers wet tyres afterwards they were on the point of tearing to shreds from getting to hot and that was with him looking for puddles to ride through on each lap

Race 3
Alex/Andy line up right off the back plus a bit more and when the lights go out we lead into turn 1 again, Goober/Matt are pulling out to pass us just about immediately
We’re neck and neck down the straight and I run it in a bit deeper and go around the outside to go back into the lead

Alex/Andy go around the outside of the both of us in the next two corners and then pull over to let us both back past before the chicane
Goober/Matt try having another go at us off the end of the straight but we’re carrying enough speed that he can’t make the pass

Alex/Andy leave it until the same point he pulled over last time then pulls out and passes us both around the outside before the chicane
When the flag comes out it’s Alex/Andy, Warwick/Will and Goober/Matt

A fantastic day down there despite the dodgy weather first thing and some good racing between us

Spent most of this weekend,working on the sidecar transporter, it's had a roof leak so I needed to put a new vent in as the old one was cracked and had a couple of tubes of silicone used on it by the previous owner, that all turned to crap as the new vent is slightly bigger so had to do a bit of modifying, now I need to get a bit of 25mm ply to make a new frame for it all to bolt to and that'll be all done

While I was doing that I started to fix the cargo guard in place so all our gear in the back wont kill us in an accident, got one off TM for $50 and it's just been sitting in place since Wangas last year so I just worked out what I needed to bolt in in place then got a couple of sheets of plywood to cover it which should let the heater warm the cabin area a bit better and give us a bit of protection is stuff goes wrong

I also worked out how I'll mount some tyre racks off the side of the body about half way up to give us some more floor space although I'm not sure if that'll get done by the BSTT

Just looking at doing some LEd lighting, it's got fittings in the back for small fluro tubes and it looks like there's an LED bulb that fits and works if you take the starter out

Couple of times loading up at night with no lights in the rear has been a real prick
