its a funny looking bike.. engine at the rear eh? but looks quite short stilll...

Only LCRs I've seen up close and naked were Steve Bron's ones. They were much newer than this one I think which might explain the funny body work, but I know fuck all about it all. It's definitely a long chair though.

Ya cheeky coont! Actually I studied the pics and for the life of me I can't see the passengers seat? Ya wouldn't expect a 40 y/o too bloody kneel would ya?

Only briefly talked about it, both wanted to be swingers hahaa. There's really not enough going on to warrant having that outlay sitting around for me to be honest. And you know me mate..............first sign of pain or panic and I'd be selling everything again hahaaa, def not hard enough to mix with chair skidders hehee.

Not sure it did.
Chivo had a lot of sucess on it when it was new. Id guess its about 12 years old now.
Its a very clever chassis with great weight distribution.
I seriously pondered getting it for Tracey a while back, & we spent a morning going over it, but she loves her 600 too much to change.
It really needs a Gordy to tidy it right up.

Get fit? speedway races are over by the time we've only done about 3/4 a lap
One of our races at a club day is more time racing than an entire speedway meeting

It's a 1992 so it's 20 years old, Pete the Pirate and that other guy have the only LCRs later than 2000, I think the latest one in the country is about an 08

There's a 04 LCR on Steves Place at the moment for 19,000 GBP with an 06 engine and another similar one for 14,600 GBP so price wise they've come down quite a lot from what they were probably close to 50% on 5-6 years ago

You can buy an eighties or early nineties F2 for anywhere from 3000GBP upwards and it'd still be better than 90% of the short bikes in the country

On the old bike a low 1.49 and the best I could find was a 1.48 with Frilly onboard, Aaron Lovell on the sister bike with R1 power could do 1.45

We can now run flat 1.45 all day long with roughly 40 less HP and I'm guessing 50kg plus less weight and I think there's a bit more in it yet, I honestly still don't think we've quite got our heads around just how hard it can be pushed as the Lawrances, Adam/Stu and you and Steve are still another 2-3 seconds a lap faster

I think most of the gains are in better handling and less weight although the 1000 is a lot less brutal in the power delivery and doesn't just smoke up everywhere at a touch of the throttle

It's a 1992 so it's 20 years old.
Cheers for that Kick. I always thought Daves was much later than that. 3K GBP for a shorty!? Fark! That's cheap, and yes, would wipe out the field with a decent rider (oh, and passenger...)!! Why aren't more being imported? What does it cost to get it shipped over here?

See, and this is what I don't understand, why are people spending bigger dollars on flasher machines, when if you imported a shorty, for maybe $9K, you'd go faster than 1.45's also. As for the less weight etc, that's a given for racing, but our rig is pretty much the opposite. Ours doesn't handle (we've never even altered the suspension...), is heavier (by lots...), and the Busa is by all comparisons 'brutal'...
If I was starting out in our class, I'd import a later model, ultra light shorty as you've mentioned. You'd cane up!
They are also far more forgiving than long bikes - from what I've seen.

For me, it's gotta be value for money. We spend fark all, and always have fun.

Kai, if there were more people like you out there, then our class would be the best bar none!

This year has seen a few teams/and newbies up their game.
The farm boys, upgrading to a 600 weapon,
Des upgrading to a nice long bike from his shorty, (the long bike wasn't out there the previous 6 years),
Robbie Shorter re-powering Westies long chair with a GSXR1000, (the long bike wasn't out there the previous 12 years),
Rob Edwards and his wife buying the Blackbird Zimmerframe, (wasn't out there the previous 4 years - But unfortunately won't be ready for this season),

dunno if you can see this http://www.steveenglish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=42977 but it's a 1984 F2 bike for $2500GBP with a recent engine overhaul and some spares, as old as it is it'd still be better than most short chassis in this country
There's another one that sold for 2000GBP http://www.steveenglish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=42755[/B]
But when you get into the late nineties outfits you're up around 6000GBP

I thnk it's about what people want and what they like, I love the LCRs although I still think if one of the top Euro guys came over on one we'd all look like rank amatuers but we'd probably see that if a top F2 crew came over as well as I think they'd smoke most if not all the F1 bikes here

Given the choice I'd be equally as happy with either an LCR or something like the R1 powered Windle for sale down here

I had a chat about value for money a while ago, basically the more we spent and the closer up the ladder we got the less I found I was enjoying it, the dollar vs enjoyment got all out of kilter

What did Des end up getting? did he sell the short bike because that was very fast with Johnny B on it, high 1.44 at Ruapuna back in 02 with the original FZR in it

Is the bike Robbie bought the one Craig McDonald had with the Kawasaki in it that ran in AFR colours?

Those rigs are dirt cheap!!! You would spend $20K to build something like that. Unbelieveable!

As for value for money. As I've said before, Bob and I used to cap our entire season at $5,000 between us. ($2500 each) We were always up the pointy end, sometimes running on canvas (but still did a lap record at Levels as you mentioned previously), but we were the team out there having the most fun - you must agree with that. Just 'cause someone does a National race meeting, doesn't mean they want to be a National Champ - rather than have fun!

My shit stirring days are over, & id never get into a short bike long bike argument again.
But three weeks ago I was at manfield & caught up with an old racing chum that bought a long outfit a few years ago, after having a ball on a shorty for many years.
The long bike is for sale now & he remarked to me, these things are too complex to set up & I cant get on top of it, im slower, ive got too much money tied up & im not having fun anymore, I wish id kept the short bike.
Thats just a fact as he said it.

in one respect that is the case but on the other side of the coin at least if it's a 'brand' of bike (as opposed to a one off) then there's usually a benchmark setup to work from and with that you can compare with another bike that's as close as possible to yours so that helps some people as the whole sidecar set up for a lot of people is a dark art.

Short vs Long, I also don't think one or the other is inherently better than the other, they're just different, if anything though I think the short bikes are generally restricted by the F2 rules that run overseas and the type of front ends they can use

Here there's been other stuff tried like back in the eighties with the AGIP bike and Battletruck being front engined but hub centre steer and this lot latter oufit built in OZ

We had a bit of a struggle with the LCR handling like crap when Dave took delivery of it but with information readily available it was only a few meetings to get it handling a lot better, then a year back we had a guy out from the Uk who went over it with us as well

It too us longer to learn how to ride it than to set it up and I'd say the learning to ride bit hasn't finshed yet

That looks exactly what I raced with at the Creek! It was a weapon!! If I was to build a rig, it would be exactly the same as that one!! The Aussie rider reckoned it had cost him $70K AUD up to that point!! That's simply too much coin for me for a hobby. Our Busa wasn't any slower than it (but did weigh about 40kgs heavier), and we beat it 4 out of 4 races. Still it's a bloody nice example of a shorty! Respect!!

Its the only way Scrivy knows. I saw a u tube clip on how to swing, I think kick posted it a while back. It described ONE way of swinging for ONE style of riding.
Swinging for scrivy dosent involve any bullshit steering & balancing the outfit, he does all the steering himself with throttle & brute force, he dosent let you steer, because if you tried that shit, he would sit you on your arse quick smart.
All swinging for scrivy involves, is NOT FALLING OFF, to the point where toes are tucked under & you asshole is sucking the vinyl off the deck.
Conversely, scriv looks at a picture on our passage wall of Tracey at Eastern Creek, up on two wheels until the faring is dragging on the R/H side, on full opposite lock & shakes his head in disbelief at how "she just got away with that one" (lap after lap after lap)
Finesse & balance meets brute force & ignorance.

Exhausted after 3 slow laps?!?! Come on now, can't be that hard, right? :msn-wink:

I've never swung on a proper sidecar at a proper track, Hamster will be my first time, but 8 laps on the bucket chair round a kart track leaves me more crippled that a 30 lap race on the bucket. I can easily believe that I'm going to be crying like a girl after the first practice labour weekend.

Chur Bro, if you bring a box of Heineys, Ill let you swing all day while I work on them!!

Come back in after an out lap, flying lap, and the in lap because the front tyre was flat, (I didn't kick it hard enough as a pressure check Scriv), and Jimmy says. just as an after thought I'll put something sidecar racing related up

Michael Dunlop has just confirmed that in addition to his Solo entries in this weekend’s Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, he will be making his first competitive outing in a Sidecar outfit.

The current Southern 100 Solo Champion, had originally intended to compete at an earlier meeting at Oliver’s Mount this year, but this fell through due to his late solo commitments.

Race organiser, Peter Hillaby has confirmed that the sidecar outfit, owned by outright sidecar lap record holder around the 2.43-mile North Yorkshire course, since 2008, Nick Crowe will be preparing the machine for Michael to race on Saturday and Sunday.

Michael's passenger will be Dan Sayle.

so surely on your order sheet you wrote down the measurements or the signwriter did in front of you? how then can it go wrong and why did you even hand over said money?

cause i wanted to get bike done before it was picked up for barry sheene.

yes i wrote down measurements and he wrote them down too. how he got it wrong i dunno (edit we figured it out.. they did 140mm from top of T to bottom of g instead of from top to bottom of T (Team Agip)

anyway.. looks mint. photos coming..

handed over said money because thats how it works.. i ordered these tricky to make stickers on the condition i actually buy em or no one would have bothered trying. its tricker than one thinks to get these stickers done up. very few source images and no source image for Team Agip.. had to get it made up from scratch

Gotta ask, does Mo know you're doing this ? I've never, ever, heard him be complimentary about any of his old outfits. He seems to work on the basis that the current or most recent build is the last word and all the others are now shit.....and that one and it's owners gave him a fair amount of grief at the time. i'm curious to see his reaction to someone thinking one of his is worth restoring....

- Nah I doubt Mo knows I've done this/doing this.. I wouldn't know how to get a hold of him or anything, and like you say - he may not care at all haha! maybe he will see it one day or find out about it :)

Mo's still in Richmond, Nelson. He moved a while back so i don't have a number now but the pub at lunchime will find him...

The annual outing to the GP at Ruapuna seems to be his only trip outside Nelson now. I must come along on the Friday to see his reaction....

Maybe it should be a formal thing...all the guys who know him at an unveiling ?

Yeah, because you would only need one set then.
Eddie, Take another look at that old clip that ends with the Scrivy crash (I had nothing to do with it) & see the deck extension on the Agip outfit that extends behind the rear wheel. For some reason it has been removed over the years & I wonder if it should be re fitted.
It seemed to work quite well & I dont think you will find another passenger anywhere, that got as far right & as far left as Vince did, he was an extremely comitted passenger.
The thing is, that people buy a NZ title winner, as was the case with the Agip outfit, & then think they can make it faster with some hair brained mods, in their first ever year on sidecars.
I suspect it stems from people thinking that they should be faster than they are & blaming the equipment, before they even begin to grasp the basics of how it all works.
