What? Like someone that's riding for giggles, rather than treating it like a Moto GP audition.

Container from the uk for Wanaganui/tri s series Any contact for some one to talk with about potentuall space in for another race unit?
i'd start with Flea Willacy, you'll need a time machine though, the tri series hasn't run since 2012, it's been called the Suzuki Series for a couple of years and i think the container left the UK four days ago, but check with him.

King of Levels Rd 4, 12/09/15
Once again Pete and Matt from Independent line services came to the rescue and gave us a trailer to cart all the gear down there so were loaded and ready to go the night before
We didn’t have the -5 degree temps or the rain of we’d experienced at the two previous rounds when we arrived which made it a bit more pleasant at the track
Practice
We’d been looking at a couple of areas on the track to concentrate on with one being braking off the end of the back straight and started going in a little deeper each lap and trying to find a better way into the decreasing radius
It was all feeling pretty good but with Alex/Andy there we knew it’d be hard work for us to get a win
Race 1
Our starts have got pretty good and we make turn one in the lead, I can hear what I assume is Alex/Andy behind us and sure enough down the straight they poke a nose up the inside and then let us have the corner
Over the next few laps they torment us a bit by showing the nose on the inside, outside and pretty much anywhere they damn well please on the track to let us know they’re there
A lap to go and they pull the pin and pass us and start pulling away to take the win
We don’t have too much to do between races but give it a look over, check the gas and get ready for the next one
Alex suggests a handicap race so we promote new guys James/Hayley up to P1 with Goober/Matt alongside and we go off 3 with Alex/Andy off 4
Race 2
Goober/Matt and James/Hayley launch and we let them get out of sight before we leave the line
Alex/Andy gives us until half way around the sweeper onto the back straight before they go after us
Lap 2 and we catch and pass James/Hayley and set off after Goober/Matt and a lap later we pull alongside under brakes into turn 4 then let them back in front
A lap later I’m regretting giving it to them when I duff a corner and let them get more of a lead than I wanted but we close them back down over the rest of the lap and with the white flag out and a lap to go we’re running out of options to get by
We’re right on the back of their tray into T6 decreasing radius and looking to make a move when Alex/Andy blow past us around the outside blocking us in and pretty much cut Goober/Matt’s nose off into the next corner
I have a half arsed attempt into the hairpin but don’t really have the room to pull it off and we finish 3rd with Alex/Andy taking the win and Goober/Matt 2nd
Race 3
We run the same handicap, although Alex decides he’ll give us a slightly less as he was close to not making it to the front in the last one
Goober/Matt deicide to play about with James/ Hayley and we catch them both on lap 2
We come onto the straight and can see them a wee way ahead and are rapidly running them down but there doesn’t look to be enough room to get by while they’re running side by side
Just before the 200 metre mark they move slightly apart and there’s a gap through the middle we take and pass them both
I can’t hear Alex/Andy behind us and with the white flag out and a lap to go think we might have a chance
Off the end of the straight they still haven’t come past us but that soon changes as he goes down the outside and cuts across in front to take T5
We can’t hold the same speed through T6 and he pulls a couple of lengths on us, we gain a little back into the hairpin but not enough to make a challenge and we finish 2nd with Alex/Andy 1st , Goober/Matt 3rd and Hayley/James 4th
That gives us enough points to take the win for King of Levels which was run 3 rounds with Alex/Andy and James/Hayley taking the next two spots

don't think that's on the list, but at least get it on it's wheels, apart from the rear hub issue he lent his hot cylinder head to colin brewer who never returned it, so that's got to be sorted.

not entirely, it was the first rivetted monocoque in nz, andy had won three championships on it, it's dimensions were outdated not being long enough in the front and it's chassis was tired, so many other people had sold their rigs and people had chopped them around i don't think he wanted to see his baby suffer the same fate. he'd put a lot of time and money into it over the years.
he liver abroad and the effort to come back here and race was not want he wanted to put into it anymore.

zx10 actually, at one stage he brought a new zzr1100 motor but didn't use it. andy actually collects zx10's so has more motor stuff than cycle parts, the biggest thing is time, he only comes over occasionally and has other shit to do, there is no need to get it going, if there was an event where it would fit in then that might move it up the priority list...

Would be cool to see it out running against the Agip bike. Speaking of which Agip bike will be back in Auckland monday afternoon then start stripping it down to clean up chassis and repaint bodywork again [ looking a bit second hand again at the moment ] Vince also gave me the low down on how to make it a 6 speed gearbox again. Colin Buckley told me the original yamaha motor out of it was what he used when at Bathurst in 2000

If you pull the top off the motor, FFS mark where the cams are - it's not stock.
Also mark which cam bearing goes where as it's been f'd up previously - don't change them round as i'm pretty sure i had to hone them as sets cos it'd picked up in the journals.

Just spent a couple of hours pulling bits off the LCR, getting ready for an engine change and fixing a few little bits an pieces before we head up to HD
It's been a pig to start and hopefully the broken wire to the airbox sensor is the cause of that. I wont mention the water temp wasn't even plugged in
Need a helicoil in the rear hub where the sprocket bolts on, replace the rod end that cant be done unless the engine is out, new brake pads and change the fluids, new chain and change the gearing to suit the smaller OD Yokohamas
I also need to tidy up the catch tray a little bit and sort some exhaust leaks, get Pig to finish the new handlebars and maybe fit a longer pull throttle, pull the sidehub apart and replace the wheel bearings and the top rose joint there as well

don't think it will be out in the near future, being a rivetted bike and having down around six seasons at the front of the pack it's pretty tired chassis wise, it's alos andy's bike and he's got other things in his life to do but if we can get this rear end sorted, finding and mounting a new disc, repalce the cracked front one, a cylinder head then when he chooses to do something we a hole chunk closer

After not having enough of us for the first round this would be the first sidecar round Alex decides to stay in bed as the weather is a bit crap and Goober sounds none too keen to be going to it either
Regardless of the rain we head out and get set up and it is looking pretty dismal, Graeme turns up after not being out for a year which makes 4
Practice
It seems to start raining heavier as we line up and doesn’t get any better once we’re out there, it seems very slippery and we’re locking the rear brake when I try standing on it hard
James/Hayley go past us and I follow them down into T1 and we pass them under brakes, next lap they go past again and we go up the inside on the exit to T1 and pass them on the run down to pothole
Goober has newcomer Jessie out for a couple of laps before swapping back to Matt for another couple
Practice over and we’re pretty much cold wet and miserable but get the bike checked over and ready for race 1
James/Hayley have taken the top spot with me and Will on P2, Goober/Jessie on P3 and Graeme/ring in on P4
Race 1
We dial in about half the revs we normally would and get off the line fairly good and lead down into T1
The next few laps I can hear James/Hayley behind us, we’ve kept a bit in reserve and are running a fairly comfortable pace
I can see Goober/Jessie as we come around the hairpin slowly gaining on us but we have plenty of gap back to them
James/Hayley get a good run onto the straight and pass us, we chase them down into T1
They run out a bit wide on the exit and we pull past down into Pothole, we give the kerb a bit of a smack with the chair wheel and get loose on the exit and I just about expect James/Hayley to make it back in front and I can hear them right behind us at the hairpin but once we turn into the dipper I know we’ve got it in the bag and run home 1st with James/Hayley 2nd and Goober/Jessie 3rd
We’re checking the track and see it’s drying out so we swap back to slicks, Goober leaves his wets on because it takes him 2 ½ weeks to change the rear
Race 2
We get a good start and make T1 in front, the bikes developed a miss until the revs get up and it’s not long before Goober makes it past
The next few laps we run nose to tail, he drags out an extra few lengths off each corner while we make it back up under brakes
Down the straight he pulls away about 4 -5 lengths and we get right back behind him off the end and then lose another couple of lengths punching off T1 and then make it back up again into the hairpin and stick with him through the infield
We can’t quite get close enough to think about making a pass and he leads us over the line
Goober/Matt 1st, Warwick/Will 2nd, James/Hayley 3rd
We give the bike a look over and Will finds a loose plug cap and we check the plug which is looking a bit dodgy so we replace it
Race 3
Our best start for the day and we run down into T1 a bit hotter than usual, a lap later I can hear a bike behind us and as we exit Carousel Goober/Matt have the drive and move past us on the inside into the next right
We’re alongside but they have the line and we have to back out, we follow around through onto the straight and now with the bike running right we’re right behind them into T1
Goober/Matt like a wide line into it and we hold it a bit tighter, there’s a puff of smoke as Goober/Matt lock the chair wheel and then we’re on the brakes hard and making a move on the inside of them
We go in a bit deeper than I’d like and it cuts out exit speed, there’s a flash of red and White on the inside down to pothole but we don’t back out and are first through it, I take a defensive line into the hairpin so they have to go around us and as we’re turning in they’re trying to make an outside pass
We exit the hairpin and I’m gassing it up hard and the back breaks loose and flick sideways, I have to back out of the throttle for a fraction and that’s enough of a pause for Goober/Matt to outrun us into the next right
I start to go back up the inside and think better of it when Goober cuts across the nose, we’re on the last lap with not to many chances left, through the s bends and into Carousel , we run out a bit wide intending to turn in tighter and try and get back up the inside when it all turns to custard and we spin 270 degrees
A quick check to make sure Will is still on the side and we get turned around and set off again, we have a big enough gap back to third we don’t lose a spot but that give Goober/Matt a unchallenged run to the flag
Goober/Matt 1st, Warwick/Will 2nd, James/Hayley 3rd
Considering how cold and crap it is, a great days racing with some good close dicing between us
Now we’ve got a bit of a strip down, engine change, new brake pads, new chain and a few other bits to do before we head North for the Shorai at Labour weekend

Now we’ve got a bit of a strip down, engine change, new brake pads, new chain and a few other bits to do before we head North for the Shorai at Labour weekend

They are that worried about someone fucking it up & the whole event being canned forever as a result that he wouldn't get a look in.
Make sure he knows that, because I wouldn't be able to stand him snivelling about the place that he travelled all that way & nobody bent the rules for him.
Its not like he's some kind of ex multiple NZ champ, he's just a nobody that rides a sidecar, so why would they treat him special?

520 will not last as long as the 530, but will give you a HP or 3, and that is about it. I watched a 125 team in japan dyno a bike with a chain that had done 1 race only, then they threw on a new one, and gained 1.2 peak HP

wise choice. Small gain for massive cost of sprockets also to suit, is just not worth it. I am using a std 525 chain on my old 520 sprockets to save me from buying a new 520 currently. I will fit a new 520 come serious race days though, like the Suzuki Series.

no not the register just some one eyed individuals, who when asked for their opinion of new class rules for pre 72 (which included Japanese) basically all wrote rules which advantaged their own outfits.
I was basically told I was a retarded for suggesting we just use the aussie rules, with 2 amendments so current machinery is still eligible.
It seems you can have a remanufactured pom bomb made in 2015 to what ever specs you please, but if you want to run a std 41 year old jap motor it has to run the same oil it left the factory with.
One competitor even said "we don't want 3 or 4 cylinder engines as it will be too much like the 70's again", I kinda thought that was the point of historic racing.
Anyway it doesn't bother me, I've just ordered a remanufactured Konig engine which should be 160hp when run on methanol, just to fit in with the rules.

Ours has bushes, but it must be the only moving part on the chassis that we haven't rebuilt. Instead we had to make new bushes rather than chop the bottom off the fork legs.

Ours has bushes, but it must be the only moving part on the chassis that we haven't rebuilt. Instead we had to make new bushes rather than chop the bottom off the fork legs.

Curious, why would you do away with bearing pivot points, and what is better than a bearing acting as such then?

can anybody tell me why nobody uses bearings in the pivot point between the fork and front swinging arm?
Everybody seems to have a hardon for bushes (calm down Scrivy).
Well BMW always used bearings in their Earles forks...But bushes are more tolerant of misalignment (read that as, a damm good and rigid jig is needed to keep them in alignment when the fork is welded...) So for the average punter, bushes are easier.
That said, i've always been amazed at the Speedway chairs using bushes for the steering head...

I thought it may have had something to do with soaking up bumps or something, but I would have thought all the force is basically transferred from the axle straight up into the front shocks.
the windle front end I have in my shed has these funny urethane bushes that are all flogged out.

Had to be some thing logical like that. Bearings are made to go around ( Move) Bushes are made to fill in spaces

I don't - unless you have the budget to replace several times a season. If you're using them as a rotating bearing, they wear quick.
Remember the Britten front end ? Patter problems cos the rod ends wore bloody quick, and any wear there meant patter.
There's a car suspension trick of using the spherical bearing piece in a tube with wedge rings welded either side. Used for wishbone pivot shaft bearings on race stuff with a short life span. Useful if the chassis flexes as it'll self align.

The main reason behind the Britten front end patter, was due to the carbon girders being to rigid, but YES, the rod ends did take a hell of a hammering, and needed changing often.

I thought that would provoke a reply from you...Interesting answer. Is that the accepted reason now as last time i talked to anyone they still reckoned it was the rod ends...Never got an answer to the question of exactly when - at what point in the turn - it started to patter, either.

I am not 100% on the general opinion to be honest, but after my year on it, and testing many many different styles of build of them, the patter only ever got worse from the original designed one's. A big problem with the Britten program was, not enough notes were recorded from the many different riders to come to any real conclusions. As you would understand, there are theories, and then there is on track reality, which comes down to rider feel and the stop watch I guess. Patter with the original ones, would normally begin between tip in, and full lean, but then using the 2 different styles that I tested for them, it would cause head shakes and patter in a straight line even, to the point of being near on lethal, especially at the TT with the hammering a bike takes there. It was like a small rubber bush inside another rubber to try and absorb the shock, but this design only exaggerated the problem with the patter. All the boys involved in it were good, but I personally would listen to GUY re the Britten, over any one else involved with it.

No cush on the rear, chain line very wide, lateral thinking and some machining required to get it in far enough for a "normal" chain line.
Front has a big PCD for the single disc too, very limiting...
But, they are RS125 widths....

Couple of Aussie chums have invited us to the next running of the Townsville TT over the Barry shorai weekend.
https://www.facebook.com/events/996496687029890/
We have organised the loan of a P5 gsx1100 shorty for Tracey to ride & me to swing on.
They have a fancy dress lemans start sidecar race under lights & the whole thing is a bit of a hoot.
Any further takers? Plenty of time to get your shit together.
