The reason international affairs have been run as they have for centuries now is because that way works - at least most of the time.

What an incredibly ill-informed opinion you have.

This isn't a paradigm shift - it's an ongoing fuckup. The reason international affairs have been run as they have for centuries now is because that way works - at least most of the time.

The US ambassador to the UN is reported as saying to US ALLIES, "We're watching to see who doesn't support us - and we're taking names"

That to your allies....Keep it up and you won't have many. Isolationist America is fast becoming a fact.
Look up ,or try and get a copy of your " living birth certificate"
There are 2, one , the one you have is written in capital letters
The other the living is written in lower case letters ....

This is how international world affairs is run.

PS , a friend of mine has just got his and I've just started the process.

It will be interesting to see how Trump's ban on Muslims pans out, and what exactly he's trying to achieve.

- Not a single American has been killed on U.S. soil by citizens of any of the countries banned, in statistics going as far back as 1975.

- Most US terrorist attacks are carried out by American born citizens.

- The largest proportion of actual foreign terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, a country not on the banned list - Trump is quite open about his Saudi business interests.

- Roughly ten times as many Americans are killed each year by toddlers with handguns, than by foreign terrorists.

I think that before Trump can figure out "what the hell is going on" with Muslims, he's first going to have to figure out "what the hell he's talking about".

I find it funny, in a kind of ha ha way, but also in a kind of facepalm way to think that the same shit still works. Powerful stuff lol. Gotta wonder, if Trump passes the relegislation of them thar pipelines that are on the table for passing, and 3 guys turn up at the dead of night to pass it, would it lead to the brutality of a large group of people protecting their ancestral right and protecting the water quality that they use for their day to day survival... and any other towns and future in the path of that pipeline n wildlife n shit for who knows how long, would happen. The last picture I saw was that of some form of smallish rocket launcher. Fake news or wouldn't put it past 'em lol. The term MSM has been abused of late, but including Breitbart under that umbrella is stretching the concept to breaking point.

Reuters news agency have issued an instruction to their staff. They are to ignore the news gathering practices previously used in the USA. They are to adopt the same techniques they use successfully in countries with authoritarian regimes.

Anybody who still hasn't acknowledged that Trump and his spokespeople are full of shit might wonder why Reuters would do that?

You have to give him credit, Trump is having enourmous success as a recruiter for Islamic militant groups. And OK, I understand about "the fog of war", but I can't really visualise how it is necessary for the SEALS to shoot and kill an eight year old US citizen. According to their own publicity the SEALS are very good at what they do. The US military may have to commission Hollywood to create another suitably heroic movie in an effort to convince people of their claims.

Why is Saudi Arabia not on the list?

Here's a list of the country of origin of fatal jihadist terrorist attacks on US soil

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, USA, (New York.)

Don't see any of those countries on the banned list - and these are not potential threats - these are actual attacks.

There have been non-fatal attacks from citizens of these countries:

Britain (ban them?) Afghanistan, Nigeria, Guinea, Iran and Somalia (the last two are on Trump's list).

If Trump wanted to ban citizens of the countries which have actually carried out the jihadi terrorist attacks on US soil, the list would be Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Britain, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Guinea, Iran and Somalia.

This ban looks a lot like posturing - and has bugger all to do with who actually carried out the attacks.

Of course. The countries listed in the ban are those in which Trump has no business interests. Which illustrates why the President is supposed to relinquish his business assets to avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest. Of course he says he has handed his business interests over to his adult sons.

According to the Constitution (which Trump has clearly not read) no President is permitted to accept emoluments (payments) from any overseas source. Legal action is being taken against Trump as he is believed to be receiving money from overseas sources. One defence offered is that he is not receiving the payments, his business is.

Talk about wanting to have your cake and eat too.

may be - where did he say that he would temporarily ban people from those countries on his list?

He did say he would put a temporary halt on Immigration - I can't remember if he specified the countries - but TBH - I think the ban is 90 days? This isn't like he is stopping it permenantly (although I think the Syrian ban is indefinite at this point)

I could accept if he had said he would temporarily ban citizens from the countries where their citizens have attacked the US.

I tend to think he is making an example of those countries, in an effort to persuade the so-called 'moderate muslim countries' to start taking the problem of Extremism seriously.

He also said the US should shut down theinetrnet until he could work outr what was going on - don't see any follow through on that

I think the Internet comment was in reference to specific areas - It's been taken out of Context - he didn't say he would cut off the internet entirely - but that he would need to talk with people like Bill Gates, to see what options there are, in terms of restricting criminals using the Internet to commit further criminal acts.

Coincidentally, it occurred to me a few days ago that USA is becoming more like North Korea. More isolationist, seeming not to care what others think, distrusting of outsiders, inward looking and with a nutter in charge of nuclear arms.

Why should Trump care much about what others think, specially when that thinking is counter productive and sometimes just retarded.

And badly internally divided. Small town USA distrusts the cities, the city dwellers don't believe what small town USA has elected.

Whoever thought up the campaign to make the population distrust the media was brilliant when you look at what has ensued from that.

Now comes the campaign to make sure that the heartland believes that the only saviour is Trump - all else are fake news.

It didn't work out well in the Muldoon era, but at least he had a sense of humour.
That said America isn't really an export nation esp now, unlike NZ.
America has also traditionally used subsidies to encourage production, as well as import trarifs and import levies all that resulted in is very inefficient farming,
likely the same happened to their car industry as well.
They just ended up building a lot of old fashioned inefficient basic cars that no one actually wanted.

Perhaps "anti globalist" would suit better. From what I see on other forums, if you declare yourself a globalist in the US now, the wrath of the good 'ol boys and the god botherers will descend upon you...Globalism is unpatriotic I have on good authority. And probably ungodly....

Bearing in mind that the US participation in the Vietnam war was started with a lie about an attack on US ships in the Tonkin Gulf, and that George W's war in Iraq was started with a lie about non-existent weapons of mass destruction. The efforts of the Trump administration to lie about a Houti rebel attack on a Saudi ship, and present it as "an attack by Iran on one of our ships" should ring a bell. An alarm bell. Any hopes that Trump would become "Presidential" have proved unfounded. He's the same ignorant, arrogant, fuckwit he always was, except that now he's being manipulated by a dangerous arsehole who is a lot smarter than he is.

It just gets more weird by the day. Kellyanne Conway when being asked on TV about the muslim ban pointed out that Obama had done a similar thing previously when two Iraqis became radicalised and organised the massacre at Bowling Green (Kentucky). What's wrong with that? Nothing, except that the "Bowling Green Massacre" exists entirely in her mind. No such event took place. Well, not yet anyway.

The Department of Defence had an Al Queda video clip on their website, apparently presented as captured during the recent botched raid. Unfortunately people recognised the clip as one that had been shown previously, closer examination showed the clip to be ten years old. The DOD have now removed the clip from their website. That clip is about as believable as the Pentagon statements about the raid.

Trump tweeted overnight about paid protesters. People are wondering how they might go about getting one of these paid protester positions. The "paid protesters" was fake news. The only person genuinely known to have paid people to attend a political meeting is Trump himself. Although the firm that he engaged to organise the casting call had to wait months for their money.

I've begun to wonder if that's a brilliant piece of misdirection.

The "massacre" was used as the claimed trigger for a 6 month ban on Iraqi refugees.

... but that ban also didn't happen. (Actual event was re-vetting of said refugees, after those two guys were arrested, and this caused delays. There was no outright ban).

Now, however, everyone who knows about the false claim talks about the massacre that didn't happen, and she apologised for it. Nobody seems to be talking about how the 6 month ban was also false. (I noticed this on network news, not just internet forums).

It's like their style is to use one outrageous falsehood to act as a "sacrificial fact" to mask another slightly more complex less outrageous falsehood. Bannon/Breitbart influence on style?

They were collecting weapons to send back to Iraq. There was no massacre, nobody was even injured. This was on our TV news last night.

Ocean's comment about Trump's unbelievable ignorance is on the mark. Overnight Trump tweeted about the "so called judge" that stopped his muslim ban executive order.

Trump is completely ignorant of the relationship between the executive and the courts, and how the courts are supposed be a safeguard against abuse of power by politicians.

Very few in his administration even know how government is supposed to work, the few who do appear to have a battle to educate the others. Trump doesn't understand that he is not a dictator. Yet.

Which is probably a bigger actual threat to it's perception as a democratic institution than the extra separation from its electorate caused by the use of electoral colleges.

I'm not sure if he is *that* successful. One theory is that he only stood as a candidate to increase his bargaining power for his "Apprentice" TV show. It all got rather out of hand as he never actually intended to be the Republican candidate let alone President.

It's to an electorate's advantage to separate state and church only if most of 'em aren't church members.

The US electorate self-identifies as 80% Christian. 60% of them believe the bible is historically somewhat accurate. 30% of them believe the bible is factually accurate.

Sorry without first changing the constitution, i can't see how that’s a viable theory
The pecking order works like this
1 Vice President... Mike Pence
2 Speaker of the House of Representatives..... Paul Ryan
3 President pro tempore of the Senate.... Orrin Hatch
4 Secretary of State ...Rex Tillerson
5 Secretary of the Treasury.. Adam Szubin
6 Secretary of Defense... James Mattis
None of those ran for the presidential nomination.
Interstingly number 5 is actually a Democrat while 6 is an independant.

Well, besides DC, I'm currently having problems with a religious zealot from Tucson Az on another forum...The Canadians are all baiting him and another Kiwi is currently arguing with him...Prior to the election he appeared to be a reasonably competent auto sparky. Now...I don't know if he's stopped his meds or it's a brain tumor...
I'm seriously thinking of putting him in touch with Yokel. The posts of both of them might get a bit more interesting.

Interesting how majority will slag off any other religion as totally crap but Judaism is strictly off limits for anything except support!

I think these guy's know who they are even if you don't!: http://www.jewfaq.org/whoisjew.htm You should try reading before ranting for a change! :weird:

• In the Bible, Jews were called Hebrews or Children of Israel
• The terms "Jew" and "Judaism" come from the tribe or kingdom of Judah
• "Jew" now refers to all physical and spiritual descendants of Jacob
• A person can be Jewish by birth or by conversion
• Traditionally, Jewish status passes through the mother, not the father

In the pre match hoo ra ra with one exception the pundits all predicted a Patriots win. That alone was almost enough to make me a Falcons fan, then I read that the Patriots' owner, their coach, and their quarteback are all Trump fans.

In the last day or so I saw a report that says there is agitation in Canada for a border wall there too. When the Trump voters find out they were sold a crock of shit they might start heading north 'cause they won't be able to live in the US - and Mexico won't want them.

On a slightly more worrying note Trump told US military personnel that there are frequent terrorist attacks occuring in Europe that aren't reported 'cause, you know, reasons.

Kellyanne Conway says that when she mentioned the Bowling Green massacre it was a mistake, she mispoke, she got one word wrong, she meant to say terrorists. Freezing works down the road has now got accommodation for Chinese managers to come and get accustomed to their works.

They are expanding accommodation to house Chinese workers next.

All of the buses at the pub down the road have complete Chinese crew and The tours are completely Chinese run.

No not anti Chinese, just an observation about different work attitudes.

when I visited China a few years back you could see why NZ looked so good in comparison and why they work the way they do. There are so many many people over there all competing for the same opportunities. There didn't seem to be a social backup like in NZ.
