Thought some of us might be interested in following the current American (USA) presidential election so here is a thread to test the water!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2016
For no known reason my deep gut feeling has been growing that this years election is going to throw up some sensation like has never been seen before.
I have no idea what it might be but already there are some player and selection moves building that could suggest sensational outcomes might occur!
Only in America (as the saying goes) - what do you reckon?

Does it really matter who is voted in? Nothing will change for the better - it will be business as usual...just moreso if Cliton gets in. The president has minimal control over what goes on in the country these days....more a talking head to keep the masses placated.....or not!

If he wins, given his scottish adventure, and knowing of Bob Charles as he does.....We may have a lot more golf courses and become the world's #1 golf tourism destination...
And that's looking on the bright side.

The 2016 elections will be historic, whoever wins
We might get the first Woman president - Hilary Clinton
We might get the first USA Latino-descent president - Cruz/Rubio
We might get the first Jew - Sanders
We might get the first complete drop kick - Donald Trump
It is also interesting for the rest of the world as the prez has control over the USA nuclear arsenal ... does the rest of the world want Trump to have his finger on the big red button??

So Trump will build a wall along the Mexican border? I guess it's time to buy shares in any Mexican ladder making company.
I'm reminded of the 'impenetrable' Maginot Line that France built to keep the Germans out in the 1930s.

As Mexico is a member country of the TPPA, I doubt the wall will proceed and definitely not at Mexico's expense. Think of all the Mexican exporters who could sue for loss of earnings that a wall would almost certainly cause.

They (or their products) would go under the wall, in tunnels just as they do now.
If the wall was successful in keeping Mexican drugs out of the USA, that would upset a lot of the American distributors, t the point where they might do something about it.

A lot of it goes through in Chevrolets and Fords. If Mexico does construct it, the U.S distributors could also potentially seek remedy from the Mexicans under the TPPA. Fucking win!

True - (IMO) every president of the USA in my lifetime has seemingly been little more than a controlled puppet.
It would appear that JFK (and his brother) realised too late - tried to do something about it and paid the ultimate price
Historically presidents of the USA appear to have become weaker and weaker as time has progressed. https://www.google.co.nz/?gws_rd=ssl#q=past+us+presidents
Perhaps that suggests that the puppeteers have become bolder and bolder as their confidence grows? - overconfidence may become their Achilles heel eventually?
Of course this is only my personal interpretation of events as they have unravelled over my lifetime - I could even be wrong! :shit:

Every candidate from any political persuasion must first pass the litmus test of Israel or they will not receive any positive - even negative media coverage.
Donald Trump is extremely well qualified with respect to Israel: http://www.timesofisrael.com/when-it-comes-to-jewish-ties-no-gop-candidate-trumps-trump/
He may be financially independent and free from the shackles of dependence on some other financial dictatorial interest but he is still symbiotically linked to Israel.
It will be interesting should he gain the presidential laurels to see what happens when he realises that he is not really in control as he expects! :angry2::corn:
Post election Iran? - that could be interesting if not tragic for the whole world! - watch this space!

All true, but the corollary is that if trump is elected, change can be expected...personally, i'd like to see the system stagger along for a while yet before chaos arrives. I've probably got another 15 years left, I'd just as soon not be collateral damage before my time thanks.

Obama never had a chance.
The day of his inauguration the GOP movers and shakers met and resolved to obstruct everything he did.
They even went so far as to reverse their own positions if it meant blocking him.
The Senate Republican leader even said that keeping Obama to one term was their number one priority...nothing about governing or enacting legislation for the benefit of the American people.
Of course, they failed in that goal.

I like Hilary Clinton and think she is a very good candidate and will make an excellent President. She is smart and knows her policy and issues. She is familiar with heads of state from all over the world from her days as Secretary of State, as well as when she was First Lady. She also has a very strong character, stronger I think than Obama, and I think she will be able to get more done with a Republican Congress than he managed to do.
She lacks charisma, which is ironic considering her husband has so much. I wish this didn't matter as much, and that people would vote with their heads more, and less as if it is a school popularity contest. I am glad she is running again, and think she is very much the best choice.

New York, NY - Donald Trump lives in two worlds. The first consists of a skyline of impressive buildings, a world measured in dollars and deals. The second - his personal life - is a world fueled by fantasy and filled with dreams.
Trump is a salesman who knows how to sell the ultimate intangible - mystique.

Unless Donald does as he is told the real government will terminate him and tell the story whatever way they like - "we" will never know the difference!

I'm sorry - I don't have a 'cultural' marxist view - and I don't know what the fuck you mean by that - I'm not sure you do either.
While I might share Marx's social analysis - I certainly don't share his politics - I share my politics with Bakunin, Kropotkin and Proudhon (who Marx nicked a lot of his work from.

40-200 million is a more consistently used figure/s from what I have found on the subject. Bit rough to inflate his net worth and not his starting capital anyway :bleh:
And even if it was 'just' 1 million, it is still a fuck ton of money, and even more so when you consider it was over 30 years ago! Plus he was still clipping the large salary ticket etc. He's obviously not completely useless but he's not the business mastermind he claims to be.

Apparently USA presidential elections are not always all they appear to be according to some!
[quote of prediction from another source]
There seems to be a curse on political candidates that had some kind of business dealings with Goldman Sachs. Some scandal in their past kills their campaign, leaving an otherwise less viable candidate the last man standing in the race. I have in mind the unlikely win of Barack Obama to the US Senate from Illinois in 2004.
Blair Hull was a cinch to win the Democratic Party's nomination as candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2004. But then his campaign was rocked by scandal. Hull had sold Hull Trading Company to Goldman Sachs for $531,000,000.00USD. Hull's withdrawal from the race made way for Barack Obama's unlikely win in the Democratic Primary.
Then, amazingly, Republican Primary winner Jack Ryan, former partner at Goldman Sachs, dropped out of the race following a scandal. This made way for Barack Obama to win the general election, which paved his way to the Presidency as if on a golden carpet ride.
Now, we see Ted Cruz, whose wife works for Goldman Sachs, facing scandal for loans he took from Goldman Sachs. And Hillary Clinton is now mired in controversy for monies she received from Goldman Sachs for three speeches she gave.
But will the last man standing be Donald Trump, or Bernie Sanders, if these scandalous sparks catch fire? The press and Ted Cruz's dirty tricks favor commie Bernie, not Trump.
Cruz, as Trump points out, will lose to Sanders or Clinton, because Cruz cannot be President. He is NOT a natural born citizen of the USA, and so the Supreme Court will sack him, Obama's Supreme Court. Clinton has already pledged to appoint Obama to said court and further stack it with communists who favor Obama style dictatorial rule, Obama so favored by fate and the fortunes of Goldman Sachs.
Edward Mandell House published a book more than a hundred years ago, which spelled out these methods for turning democracy into oligarchy and overtaking the Senate, Presidency and the US Supreme Court, titled Philip Dru: Administrator: A Story of Tomorrow, 1920-1935.
It appears that the curse of Goldman Sachs will live on to doom the candidacy of Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton.
That would leave a communist and a billionaire standing.
House laid tremendous emphasis on the power of the press to control public opinion and political elections.
The press is the tell, and presently they are pressing for the communist Saunders. [end of quote]
Just thought some of you might be interested in the suggested intrigue within this prediction while Trump is currently making big waves - watch this space!
Note the prediction of Obama to the Supreme Court? - Is there a vacancy? - Apparently there is! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/02/13/the-death-of-a-supreme-court-justice-in-office-is-unusual/?tid=a_inl

Trump saying Cruz is ineligible doesn't make it so. From what i can see, he's at least as eligible as previous candidates and there should be no problem with any Supreme Court confirmation.
Trump has a habit of coming out with statements as fact when they're no such thing.
I'm assuming someone is keeping track of his mis statements, I just hope he's held to account for them at some time.
The fact so many find him credible beggars belief.
If he ever makes president, it'll be a massive shock when he finds that just because he says so, doesn't make it happen.

Some other gems his drumpfness has uttered (http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/blogs/550112/donald-trump-quotes.html)
1. “An ‘extremely credible source’ has called my office and told me that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud"
Trump was determined to “expose” President Obama’s birthplace back in 2012, and even claimed to have sent investigators to Hawaii in the hopes of proving Obama wasn’t born in the United States.
2. “Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again – just watch. He can do much better!”
Clearly Donald is a Team Edward kind of guy…
3. “Ariana Huffington is unattractive, both inside and out. I fully understand why her former husband left her for a man – he made a good decision.”
Trump always has charming things to say about successful, prominent women - but he stooped particularly low with this comment about Huffington Post founder.
4. “You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young, and beautiful, piece of ass.”
Trump proves (again) that he views a woman's looks over anything else...
6. “I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”
Oh for goodness sake.
7. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.”
Just another casually racial slur, then...
8. “Our great African-American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore.”
Don’t worry, his racist outbursts aren't just directed at Mexico.
9. “If I were running ‘The View’, I’d fire Rosie O’Donnell. I mean, I’d look at her right in that fat, ugly face of hers, I’d say ‘Rosie, you’re fired.’”
Trump has infamously hated on Rosie O'Donnell, making crude, sexist and misogynistic remarks about her on multiple occasions.
10. “All of the women on The Apprentice flirted with me – consciously or unconsciously. That’s to be expected.”
Because of course, no woman can resist Trump's charms. [Throws up on keyboard]
11. “One of they key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace. Good people don’t go into government.”
Well at least he's showing some self awareness.
12. “The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.”
And not that fabulous barnet of yours?
13. “It’s freezing and snowing in New York – we need global warming!”
Definitely not missing the point...
14. “I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”
Possibly (/definitely) one of the creepiest things we've ever heard...
15. “My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.”
Ew.
16. “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.”
We're glad he's so concerned about the obesity crisis.
17. “I think the only difference between me and the other candidates is that I’m more honest and my women are more beautiful.”
Women aren't possessions, Donald. They can't belong to you.
18. “You’re disgusting.”
To put this into context, Donald Trump said this to the opposing lawyer during a court case when she asked for a medical break to pump breast milk for her three-month-old daughter.
19. "The point is, you can never be too greedy."
Campaign slogan = sorted.
20. “Sorry, there is no STAR on the stage tonight!”
In his Twitter liveblogging of the Democratic debate, Trump seemed to think he was watching a talent show rather than looking for the next POTUS.
21. "My Twitter has become so powerful that I can actually make my enemies tell the truth.”
We think Donald may be overestimating the power of Twitter.
22. "My IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it! Please don't feel so stupid or insecure; it's not your fault."
Don’t worry, we won’t.
23. “I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”
What does that even mean?
24. “The other candidates — they went in, they didn’t know the air conditioning didn’t work. They sweated like dogs...How are they gonna beat ISIS? I don’t think it’s gonna happen.”
Because sweating = the inability to solve a political crisis. Gotcha.
25. "Look at those hands, are they small hands? And, [Republican rival Marco Rubio] referred to my hands: 'If they're small, something else must be small.' I guarantee you there's no problem. I guarantee."
Along with the petition to keep him out of the UK, can we also campaign for Trump to stop talking about his penis?

Donald Trump honoured by Native Americans
Donald Trump addressed a major gathering of the American Indian Nation.
He spoke for almost an hour about his plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living.
Though vague in detail, he spoke about his ideas for helping his "red sisters and brothers."
Afterwards, the Tribes presented him with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, "Walking Eagle", which he proudly accepted.
After Trump left, a news reporter asked the chiefs how they came to select this name.
They explained that "Walking Eagle" is the name given to a bird so full of shit that it can no longer fly.

Trump is either acting it up to get coverage, or he will start world war three.
Donald Drumpf has already threatened to nuke ISIS or whoever. His comment was to the effect that he was interested to see if the desert sand would glow in the dark.
Cinton is toxic. Too much baggage.
The pundits are writing Sanders off, but most of them are bought and paid for, just like the politicians. HRC has done well in the primaries so far but her strength was in the south. Most of the southern states have had their say, now it's the turn of the north where Sanders polls stronger.
Whatever, it would seem at this stage that the people who stay away from the polls in November may have the biggest say.

the Yanks do get to vote
Not all of them. Republican controlled states have introduced new ID laws "to prevent voter fraud". Never mind that there was negligible history of voter fraud.
Basically the idea is to stop voters unlikely to vote Republican from casting a ballot. Like f'rinstance black voters.
The mechanisms vary but they have very strict ID requirements. One state does not recognise their own welfare ID card, or student ID cards, but they do recognise hunting licences. When you consider who would be carrying each of those and how most people in that category are likely to vote the intent is apparent.
If I wasn't retired I wouldn't spend as much time following the process as I do, but it's a real circus and I have the time so...

Recent Clinton election trail news break:
Hillary Clinton and her driver were cruising home along a country road one evening
when an old cow loomed in front of the car.The driver tried to avoid it but couldn't.
The aged cow was struck and killed. Hillary told her driver to go up to the farmhouse
and explain to the owners what had happened.
She said that he should resist any request from the farmer to pay for the animal,
but she said, “you killed it, so if they have to have money, it will come out of your pocket”
She stayed in the car making phone calls.
About an hour later the driver staggered back to the car with his clothes in disarray.
He was holding a half-empty bottle of expensive wine in one hand, a huge Cuban cigar
in the other, and was smiling happily, smeared with lipstick.
"What happened to you," asked Hillary?
"Well, the farmer gave me the cigar, his wife gave me the wine, and their beautiful twin daughters
made love with me. I had just stepped inside the door and said, 'I'm Hillary Clinton's driver and I've just killed the old cow.'
the rest happened so fast I couldn't stop it."

Or alternatively :blip:, impeach Clinton and allow Sanders to run. Fighting either for 4 years will be profitable, whilst also giving the population enough hope/confidence to carry on spending. It will also provide time to groom the next preferred candidate, lessons learned etc... I should be a bad guy

Trump's getting all this attention - why aren't they flaming Hillary - she's a scarier, more corrupt piece of baggage than Donald - at least you can see what he's like out front.....perhaps that's the problem - he's a mirror to American society, and people are a bit troubled by what they see, whereas Hillary is just another regular slimy politician, so no one takes any real notice......

I'd have to disagree. Donald is unhinged, advocating war crimes on national TV, self centered and bigoted all up the fuck and ready to make policy based on that. Hilary is at least pragmatic.

Hilary is pragmatic, yes, based on observation first hand of just what is possible in US politics. Trump would be in major trouble if he got in and actually tried to put what he's preaching into effect. He has no idea.

I could see Trump withdrawing from the rest of the world until things started going badly at home whereupon he decides to bomb someone just as a distraction.
He's also very thin-skinned so all it would take would be for someone somewhere to laugh at his hair and it would be war.

So ? Trump knew this from day one. He talked about running as an independent then said no, he wouldn't....I'd bet that the thinking was "lets see how far we can go within the system..."
If the convention does not endorse him, he's probably got enough support through the primaries he's won to be able to claim a popular mandate - and run as an independent, citing "popular pressure" to go back on his decision not to do just that....
As i've said before, if he does succeed and gets in as pres, he's going to be severely hamstrung as literally no one in either house will want to work with him.
Every single thing including a budget will have to be traded for to get support.
