The billions recently released through quantitative easing were funnelled directly into the stockmarket to keep it artificially inflated. The economy might be showing warning signs, but as long as the stockmarket looks good Trump is happy.
In other words proof positive that banking is just an official "Ponzi Scheme". - :msn-wink: ............. :Police: (Look way officer nothing to see here?)

Well, it's hard to argue with that in this particular instance.
The Fed is supposed to work independently of the government but Trump has been bullying them into submission. As members leave he replaces them with people whose main qualification is that they will do what he wants. That could go pear shaped in a big way.

So despite the best efforts of Trump and Barr, Trump's buddy Roger Stone has been sentenced to forty months in the big house. That's less than the sentencing guidelines suggested, even so it might be possible to use an egg timer to check his actual time served.
There is some interesting discussion about the implications of a pardon, should one be forthcoming. If pardoned you are automatically adjudjed guilty of the crime but the penalty is removed. There is no possibility of an appeal if pardoned, as Sherrif Arpaio discovered live on TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRKzSW_CtuE&fbclid=IwAR3D4VRQNvgl9Oiammqy8CmX6EoqPB74PdO2T_hWS UWHMvUZ6Ai74bRNaxw
That clip is long but the relevant section starts about 4'40". Ari Melber, the MSNBC host on that clip, is a qualified lawyer.
There is also thought that someone convicted and subsequently pardoned, and therefore guilty, cannot plead the fifth under cross examination (the right not to incriminate themselves). So if Stone is called as a witness in future he will have to answer all questions.

The Fed is a private banking company that uses (costless) limitless otherwise public credit to shape and control public thinking and behaviour - that is where Rothschild's, Soros et al get their money from!
That is behind the true meaning when Rothschild stated:- "Give me control of a nations finance I care not who makes the rules" - He who holds the money holds the power - "Totally" and they do - because the world lets them!
Any bullying by Trump is done so at their bidding - not his! - Politicians are totally compromised people - puppets that do the bidding of the banking cartel etc - proof is all around us every day! Take a proper look! :msn-wink:

The five eyes. A way for every country to get around its domestic spying laws. Also a spiffing way for every other country to have access to information to meddle in the elections of other countries... or at the very least provide information for such things to take place. Political "infiltration" is not a new thing. As such, all populations have already had an entire lifetime of being bombarded with external "propaganda".

Quick, Clint Eastwood is interfering in the election.
Countries will not be affected by whoever is the President of the United States, just "locals"? Given the myriad of governments that have been, and are in the process of being, overthrown by the United States in the name of securing their future, I'd say that anyone buying into the bullshit that some country or other is meddling in elections that have no effect on them has completely lost their rational mind and really has paid zero attention to what has happened throughout history.
Oh look, Trump is doing exactly what the Dems did, and the rest before them. What? they didn't pad the justice department their way? they didn't pad their security organisations their way? they didn't start needless war using both arms and economics etc...? they didn't sell ambassador positions to the highest bidder? they didn't employ their mates? they didn't overthrow governments?.......... and so on.

I disagree - look at the shifts in the UK - Labour has abandoned the Working Class in favor of University educated Middle Class Socialists. The Working Classes don't want Socialism and so they voted Tory - in some cases for the first time ever.
IMO it comes down to a number of key principles and so long as either party doesn't violate them, then the Party faithful will keep voting for them.

Some are, Some aren't.
Cases in point are Brexit and Trump.
Both of which can be seen as a revolt against the typical political dynamics.
Now, I'll agree that the Right Wing of recent times looks eerily similar to the left wing of 30 years ago and that there aren't many principled conservatives left, but that is not to say they don't exist.
However, I'll agree that the functionaries of Government (aka the Civil Service) have cultivated a particular viewpoint and atmosphere which has had a direct impact on some of the Policy changes, however a look to what is happening in the UK with Priti Patel vs the Civil Service and the discussion about the TV licence shows that people are fed-up with the 'interchangeability' of the Policies as you put it.

That the Democratic party is having a crisis of conscious, between it's blue-collar roots, it's radical middle-class, university educated activist wing and the Entrepreneurial Millionaires/Billionaires that tend to end up as Candidates.
It holds multiple, fundamentally contradictory views and cannot reconcile them. You've got Bernie who was all 'Millionaires and Billionaires are bad!' - until it was pointed out that he was a Millionaire, now it's 'Billionaires are bad!'.
You've got Bloomberg who quite literally bought himself a seat at the table.
And if you could also just point out for me where is this "well of far left nonsense" (so that I don't accidentally trip and fall down it), that would be appreciated.
Thanks.
When the author states:
Today’s pro-One Percent media – CNN, MSNBC and The New York Times
All of which have a demonstrable left-leaning bias, that means the Author is so-far-left that he considers a left-lean to be 'right wing'
You've got rants about the Bourgeoisie (or in this case 'the one-five%'), declarations of 'Challenging the Economy's Structure' - which sounds awfully like calling for some form of significant change, one might even say a Revolution....
Further down, you've got the old slight-of-hand regarding Economics trying to conflate Social Democracies with a wholly Capitalist Economy with Socialism - that's when the hint of Marxism becomes and veritable stench. It's not only factually incorrect but in this case (given the Authors credentials), a deliberate deception.

I don't think it does contain an element of Chance.
In fact, I think it's almost an inevitable conclusion of the Human Nature, when faced with a life absent of privation and predation. To quote the Matrix:
"Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed that we lacked the programming language to describe your "perfect world". But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. So the perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from."
The end part I believe contains a Kernel of truth - as we get more and more comfy, so we start to focus on smaller and smaller 'issues' to 'overcome' - the same hardwiring that drives "Me and my Tribe are Hungry, we must therefore find something to eat" has nothing to attach itself to, there is no adversity to deal with.
Some choose to overcome this by creating artificial adversity (Sports, Mental challenges, outdoors lifestyle) - you see this with high-power Execs who do things like Ultra-Marathon running or similar pursuits.
Whereas others instead try to fix every little inequality in society, perceived or real - this leads to the rise of SJWs - when you have an infinite number of 'issues' that are intractable and in some cases the 'solution' for one makes another even worse - eventually you get to the point where the endless pursuit of perfection ends up destroying the Society until it can arise annew.

Trump has given a speech on the Corona virus and US plans to deal with it. Although use of the word 'plan' in this context is a misnomer.
Trump has put Mike Pence, an anti-science religious nut with a record of presiding over an unnecessary AIDS epidemic and writing articles denying a link between tobacco and cancer, in overall charge of the US response. If thoughts and prayers are what's needed that'll be good, 'cause that's what they'll get.
From the Washington Post:
"He (Trump) also said the United States is “rapidly developing a vaccine,” but did not provide any more details. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, contradicted the president, saying a vaccine won’t be ready for more than a year."

The biggest factor that will get Trump re-elected outside of all the things that Trump is doing, is the lack of serious opposition in the DNC.
This is not to say that I don't think that 'Muh Russia' claim is entirely without Merit - it's more a case that in the list of things that will influence the election, the Russian meddling is not in the top 3 or even top 10 - it's so far down the list that it should be considered as inconsequential.

And that is the Acid test. If you think a few spicy tweets and or posts on Facebook are really what is getting Trump re-elected, then you're in for a bad time*.

Poor Tony. Somebody should have told him, contradict Trump and you're out on your arse.

Looks to me he is doing mostly all the right things. What else do you think he should be doing?
Certain other countries simply give you a pamphlet at the airport and ask you to 'do the right thing'.

Well, Putin did say that your browsing history made for interesting reading...
However - The problem is you have to put it against what we do know:
1: Trump has a populist base - 'Make America Great Again', he's been holding what are effectively campaign rallies since getting elected and he is getting massive turn-out at these events.
2: The Democrats are a house divided between 3 factions: The Middle-class Communists (AKA Bernie Bros), The traditional Blue-collar voting base and the Entrepreneurial types. One look at what has happened in the UK should give a clear example of what will happen if they put up Bernie against Trump and Bernie continues to trot out his impossible Socialist policies.
3: The Economy - When even the Left-wing outlets are begrudgingly acknowledging that Unemployment is at record lows, the Economy is doing well.
4: The culture war rebellion against radical left-wing identity Politics
etc.
etc.
To make me take the 'Muh Russia' seriously - the threshold would be show that bots on Twitter and Facebook have more influence on public opinion than the above. Then one also would have to factor that in such a way as to why the relentless assault on the God Emperor by the Media, the DNC, The Universities, Antifa etc. did not work.

Normally I don't see TDL's stuff but you quoted it. TDL has absolutely no understanding of what happened last time and he has learned nothing since. I hope he doesn't work in IT, because IT people should at least be interested enough to find out what's been happening because it could affect them.
The Democrat servers were hacked by Russians and information was released to embarrass the Democrats. This is part of what got Roger Stone in trouble. The Republican servers were likely hacked too, but Putin was taking it easy on them.
The IT guy responsible for maintaining the Democrat server was contacted by the FBI and told that the server had been compromised but he decided that it was one of his mates having him on - and he did nothing. Some IT guys are definitely not very bright.
One false flag operation was run by Russian military intelligence officers out of Moscow. The staff of the office were named in the Mueller report and thirteen were charged although they'll never appear in court.
There was also the Internet Research agency in St Petersburg.
There were pro Trump public meetings held in the USA which were organised from Russia unbeknown to anyone in the USA.
The electronic voting machines are easily hacked, but the electorate laptop which contains all of the results is likely also possibly compromised. The integrity of the election voting systems is typically protected by local body employees and it may well be that Cletus got the job because his uncle is the mayor. Their opponents are professional Russian military intelligence hackers. TDL might be sanguine, but I don't like the odds.
Additionally there are reports around about the techniques used by Facebook. It's actually amazing what they do and how specifically the ads are targeted. They offered both the Democrats and the Republicans the opportunity to use their services, the Republicans accepted, the Democrats thought they could handle their own social media. No they couldn't. Like TDL they had simply no idea. I hope they learned their lesson and I hope they have new IT staff.

What happened last time was 'blame everything except ourselves' on the part of the DNC. Just like Labour in the UK are currently doing.
The Democrat servers were hacked by Russians and information was released to embarrass the Democrats. This is part of what got Roger Stone in trouble. The Republican servers were likely hacked too, but Putin was taking it easy on them.
To confirm, we are talking about the Email Server incident, yes?
The same one where Private servers that they shouldn't have been operating that existed outside the Auspices of the official Security policy, which is causal to what made them vulnerable to be hacked.
Yes - you were saying how I don't know what I'm talking about?
The IT guy responsible for maintaining the Democrat server was contacted by the FBI and told that the server had been compromised but he decided that it was one of his mates having him on - and he did nothing. Some IT guys are definitely not very bright.
Again, when you are doing something that you shouldn't be - responding to official requests (and implicitly acknowledging that you are doing something you shouldn't be) - is also not a bright idea.
The person in question probably knew they were Boned eitherway and the best option was to do nothing and wait for it to blow over.

That's quite the bold claim - since you are alleging in effect and unproven mass campaign of Voting Fraud. Doubly tenuous when the DNC themselves have had some rather dubious encounters with busing Voters from state-to-state, using dead people to enroll to vote and need I bring up the Caucus voting scandal for the current DNC Primary?
Me thinks this is the Pot accusing the Fridge of being black....

It's not Amazing when you understand how it works.
From an individuals preferences in content you can infer certain things about them - for example, my YT history has things like Forgotten Weapons, various Gaming channels, Motocycling content etc. From that you can infer I'm a Male, my approximate Age bracket, what my likely earning bracket is, and from those initial vectors what other things I'm more inclined to like. From those initial generalizations, by promoting content to me and seeing what I react to, you can further refine your profile of my Likes/Dislikes and more importantly, what my underlying temperament is likely to be. With each iteration this is further refined.
But even then, what you are arguing (in essence) is a Marketing Campaign was the decisive factor. Whereas the fact that Hillary was Awful was more of a factor, the fact that Trump targetted Swing voters, the fact that the voter base saw through the entitled Arrogance of Hillary and the DNC.
To quote JBP when asked on this: "I'd have gone into the booth with the intention of voting for Hillary and then at the last second decided 'screw it' and voted for Trump"

I never said I knew what the Russians were doing, I said that assuming they are doing everything that you claim they are doing, the IMPACT compared to other known factors is minimal.
The burden of proof is to demonstrate that a deliberate online marketing campaign (which is essentially what this can be thought of as) would have a significant impact on Voting behavior.
We know it did not - as with every other US election since way back when ~50% of the voters voted Trump and ~50% of the voters voted Hillary. The difference was in where those Votes were cast - Hillary had most of hers in Democrat strongholds, whereas Trump had a significant proportion in Swing States.

That was the royal usage of You again, and yes, I should have labelled it as such. Perhaps a Gentlemans agreement, I'll try to be clearly when I am referring to you yourself and you the generalized form and in return you yourself will read it with a charitable interpretation.
The over-arching point I'm making is, assuming they are doing everything that is being claimed of them, the influence is negligible.
OAB's vid, on the otherhand, was quite interesting - I'm not sure the numbers given are accurate (2 million additional votes out of 129 million votes though is less then 2%, I'd like to know how that number was derived and how it was controlled for) - but none-the-less it fits in with a general theme of soft-censorship by Large Tech companies against Conservatives.
And before there are calls of 'Hypocrite' - even if the numbers are accurate, the fact that Trump still won shows that the overall election process is more robust than Russian or Silicon Valley Meddling. On top of that - Exterior influence (AKA Hacking) is not nearly as effective as Internal Influence (AKA Corporate Policy)

Not only that there was a serries of suspicious information releases from hacks at times that were highly beneficial to Trump
"The bombshell dropped on the Washington Post’s website just after 4 p.m.: a video of Donald Trump, in 2005, using extremely vulgar language to describe women, detailing his attempt to bed a married woman and bragging that he can grope women because he is a celebrity. Less than an hour later, Wikileaks published more than 2,000 emails from what appeared to be the personal account of the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign."

It's funny - cause I've never claimed that, and considering Husaberg's memory on what I've actually said is poor at best.
The actual statement was that in every Organization I've worked at (Corporate or otherwise) - Deliberately bypassing the Security Policy is grounds for Instant Dismissal.
No Ifs, Buts or Maybes. Gone.
Then there was a discussion about the difference between Cloud-based providers being default Secure (such as O365 as an example) vs a locally setup Server.
I then said that the US Government will have something in it's internal policies (so not 'law') around bypassing of IT Security, which Hillary clearly is in violation of. And given the above, at the very least she should have been drummed out of the Government and at worst, she should be brought up on charges (whether they be of Negligence or simply compromising US security)
The other stuff is because Husa can't distinguish between someone crossing a border illegal to permanently live in a country and crossing the border illegally, with no intention of living or working there. It is not to condone crossing a border illegally, but simply to state that there is a difference.
But I digress - I'm sure both of you will have a big, congratulatory circle jerk, whilst loudly (and often) proclaiming that 'I don't see TDL's posts' (whilst referencing the content of them repeatedly) and further affirm how good and noble you all are in your respective Echo Chamber.

Thinking of the US response to a potential pandemic, and the less than confidence inspiring response of the Health Department here, I was talking to my Doctor this morning. He said GP practices are trying to obtain some masks but all the usual sources of masks are sold out. He did find some at an unusual source. He said the Health Department are holding stocks of protective clothing to be released to GPs if the shit hits the fan.
He also told me that the plan is, in the event you get sick, you'll go to specially designated reporting centres. You don't go to your GP, they don't want all the GPs laid low.
At least it's comforting that someone has actually been thinking about it.
Casting my mind back to when there was pandemic training at work last time there was a threat, the plan was for everybody to go to work as normal. That struck me as a bit off. I'd have thought run the office with a skeleton staff and send people out on jobs from their homes as necessary rather than bring everybody into contact with everybody else.
I see that Trump didn't hand Tony the arse card for contradicting him, but Tony must clear all future public comments with Mike Pence. That basically means that unless it's good news it will lie stillborn on Pence's desk.
Trump is running scared, he has crippled the disaster response organisations in the US, and if the virus becomes a pandemic he will be responsible for the result. That may be why he put Pence, who is absolutely unqualified, in charge of it. If it is a disaster he'll blame Pence.

On the very subject of election vote tampering.
The radio started it, ban radio! The US has an interesting history when it comes to vote tampering. I remember watching a doco on the ways that voting machines could be "rigged" and how votes could be shaved to swing a result ones way without alerting anyone... until it was pointed out that these things were happening. No Russians getting their bots out, just some entity with the capacity to shift election results at will no matter who or what other entities interfere. As such, the only place to land the blame for anything is everywhere but where the blame is clearly evidenced to lie. "All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.".

Epstein is a senior research psychologist at the American Institute for Behavioral Research, but other than a technologist who doesn’t appear to help with the studies, Epstein is the organization’s only staff member
That was the study Epstein described in his Senate committee testimony, where he didn’t mention that his huge claim is based on monitoring the search results of just 21 undecided voters out of 95 voters for a 2017 white paper. In his submitted testimony, Epstein did provide seven pages of citations—but all of them are papers or op-eds he wrote or co-wrote himself. Only one of them—a 2015 paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, about how biased results produced by search engines could have the ability to sway undecided voters—was peer-reviewed. Even that study didn’t demonstrate that this has actually happened.

The Epstein meme typifies this dynamic. A pop psychologist and cable-news regular, he regularly publishes op-eds in conservative outlets like the Epoch Times and the Daily Caller, as well as the occasional piece in Politico or USA Today. He once appeared on The O’Reilly Factor to explain why he thinks teens should be treated as adults (in a book on that topic, he argued in favor of corporal punishment), and on a Fox News morning show in 2008, he argued in favor of teens getting married, pointing out that “Mary was 12 or 13 when she had Jesus, was she not?”

Google directed visitors not to go to his page until the malicious code was removed—and kept the warning up even after Epstein tried, apparently unsuccessfully, to clean up his security and begged Google to remove the label. Epstein threatened to sue the company for not removing the warning, explaining to the Times that he felt like he was yelling at a brick wall. Later that year, he published a series of articles in the Huffington Post about why Google should be regulated. For the next few years, he began to publish more regularly about how easily Google could throw an election,

That's right, I was posting as the devils advocate. But you won't want to admit that because of the hole you dug for yourself.
Now I'll make this real simple for you. Calling me out over something that I've stated I care nothing about is ridiculous but I guess all you can go with as you've dug that hole too deep already. I've stated many times previously both here and elsewhere that I have no political interest in either the Democrats or Republicans. Maybe I should as America's politics do have an effect on the world stage. But I don't. However I do have an interest in human behaviour and the election of Trump has made for some very interesting observations. I've seen friends fall out with each other over their 'facts' that each of them can disprove of the other. Facts they got from new sources that spins stories to suit agendas.
Want my opinion on Trump? His hair is crazy. That's as far as it goes, because that's what I can see with my own eyes. The rest of it I'm being told by someone with an agenda, good or bad.

You were the one caught out, you claimed it was a mater of perspective to what the truth of the situation in the video you solely choose to portray was, Yet the reason you refuse to answer the questions, i have put to you, is you were clearly did not check the video first. if your claims had any validity, you could provide an unbiased account of both sides and weigh up the facts. The facts will stand for themselves, beliefs are different

Ok I'm trying to understand what you wrote there but there are a few syntax and spelling errors there.
You're making up a reason for me not answering a question that I've already explained to you has no relevance. If I cared enough to be involved in this argument for one side or the other I would make a claim when putting up a video like that. Instead I didn't, I asked pritch what his take was on it. Why? Because I wanted to see his response.
You make too many assumptions, and when people refute these assumptions you refuse to accept that and make even more assumptions. Relax a little, take your time before posting (it might help with making more coherent posts) and just realise some things might not be the way you perceive them to be.

By all means can this thread. I'll open one on the 2020 US elections. In which we can discuss Russia's ongoing interference in elections worldwide, the Republicans gerrymandering and why the world would be a better place without Trump...
OAB says he has no interest in politics, fair enough - but you should. What happens in the US affects NZ directly and indirectly. The abortion row happening at present in the US has it's echoes here now. Talk to your wives and daughters to see how they feel about losing basic rights hard fought for.
The right wing nutters here have been emboldened - not a term I like but it's accurate - by Trump. The next shooting victim could be you or yours. Are you happy with that ? The mosque shootings here can be directly linked to the rise of Trump. QED.
Polluted ? Only by some of the nutters who post in it.

Pritch I’m interested in your opinion on the video I posted. What say you on the accusations that google were involved in tampering with the 2016 election?
I'd seen that back when it came out. I don't much like Rafael (call me Ted) Cruz, a latino who got himself elected as a white supremacist senator in Texas which, to give him credit, is a good trick. He is very flexible though, Trump said Cruz's wife was ugly, and that his father worked for Castro against the US, but Cruz is happy now to kiss Trump's arse.
Having said all that, I know nothing against his witness so have to assume he is telling the truth. Cambridge Analytica*, Facebook, and Google too, they're all at it and there are no controls on what they are doing and that's even before you get to the Russians. And the Bulgarian kids?
I listened to a podcast detailing of how Facebook operated and it really is amazing the precision of their targeting and how they press people's buttons.
It's scary shit.
* Cambridge Analytica has gone now but the same people are doing the same things for Emerdata.

What say you on the accusations that google were involved in tampering with the 2016 election?
Which was to point out that each side has its beliefs, and each opposing side has its reasons to tear down those beliefs. We’re all fed information from sites/camps/journalists etc that fit our views but no one (at least here) has any first hand info, only info they’ve been fed. .
So its only a belief of mine that the facts are the guy has it seems, based all his claims without apparently any scientific or statistical or even credible basis, rather than a logical assessment of the facts of the situation?
How about you debunk what i posted. If its an opinion that's' only "a belief". it will be easily debunked..

So your claims to be an example of people on both sides being fooled by just choosing to believe information proved that complies with their conformation bias was utterly pathetic.

just to prove my point OAB shows his utter hypocracy a week later
A survey of 737 beer drinkers doesn't really represent America. No doubt some of those 737 voted Trump, no doubt some of them voted Clinton. But still only 737 people isn't indicative of anything.

The more you proclaim your Facts, Evidence and Righteousness, the more you prove the point that OAB was making.
OAB is under no obligation to answer any questions because his point was about the character of the people making the Argument, not the veracity of the facts in the debate.
What makes this hilarious is that OAB has outright stated what his point was, why he posted what he did and how your reaction to it is proof of said point. And yet you continue to argue against it, not realising the more you argue against it, the more you vindicate his initial premise.

The Husa doth protest too much....
I've gotta say - It's been a while since I've seen such a masterful troll - well played OAB.
Thanks but I can not take the credit by myself, none of this would have been possible without the effort put in by husa himself, the research he did, the googling, the furiously tapped out responses. Which is even more amazing when you consider the original post wasn't even directed at him. But he picked up that ball and took it under his arm and started sprinting full steam towards the goal line. Unfortunately in all his excitement he didn't realise it was his own goal line despite me blowing the whistle numerous times.

There are a couple of Trump towers in Istanbul. Apparently Trump has a significant portfolio of other real estate investments there, as well as the obvious conflicts of interest. Although there's not much conflict, Trump is Erdogan's bitch.

It's still part of the same Bait and Switch tactic.
Either the author does not believe that Denmark is a Socialist country, in which case who is the comment directed towards? Those that believe Denmark to be a Socialist state (which happens to be the same group of people desperate to find a model of 'Socialism' that works)
or
The Authoe does believe that Denmark is a Socialist country and belongs in said group above towards which the comment is marketed.
Eitherway - it's a clear indicator that whatever follows is going to be piss-weak Socialist apologia - which it was.

You pays your money and you makes your choice. In the current situation, if a band came here that I liked I'd consider attending the show.
Going to large gatherings in the US is a bit fraught currently, nobody knows how advanced the spread of the virus is. Testing is so limited as to be almost non-existent, a large percentage of the population will never be tested because of cost. There is no national system of sick pay so many people can't afford to take a day off work. Of all developed countries the US is worst situated to deal with a pandemic, and that's before you factor in Trump's incompetence.
As has been mentioned elsewhere, the SXSW festival has been cancelled and that's a big deal.
About Trump's rallies specifically, I had read that there weren't any planned in the near future anyway. He must be running out of places to hold the events because he hasn't been paying costs associated with holding the rallies, and by now must owe millions around the country.

Like pritch said, you made your choice. In my mind, yes public gatherings should be curtailed until more is known. The death rate has crept up to 3 in 100 now. When that 50 mill was up for grabs last week, most would think the odds would be pretty fucking amazing if you had a 3 in 100 chance of winning. So if it is OK with you Steve, I will make up my own mind on what is safe and what is not.

Yes have done that one, not sealed at all, great road though.
The one that peels to the left about 15 km's out of Kawhia will take you (with correct turn offs) all the way to State highway 3 not far out Awakino/New Plymouth - about 10 km's of very good dirt road in there. Personal choice is fine, and it is not about the sky falling on ones head and being forever fearful.
For me it is about making smart decisions. I stand by my statement that public gatherings are not a good idea right now until more is learned. A 57% rise in deaths in Italy might be worth taking notice of for instance.

I agree that large gatherings probably aren't the smartest idea, but given how fast it has moved and that carriers don't necessarily show symptoms etc... and that it is being spread through the air and, according to some research done in Germany, is able to survive hours/days outside of the body on surfaces, and where the temps are right it can last 28 days. Whilst the smartest idea is to shut things down to help prevent spread, are such moves just kicking the can down the road?

For sure, as mentioned in my Trump rant, I feel this virus is basically unstoppable for just the reasons you list. Clearly the elderly and people with pre-existing respiratory issues need to be protected.
If the rate of it spreading can be slowed down, they best have a chance of some sort of vaccine being developed in time, or even some more effective way to help these people survive it.
I feel peoples cavalier attitude to it will do nothing except accelerate it and end up killing people that otherwise may have survived. That is why I was so scathing about Trump down playing the whole mess.

To be honest I haven't heard what Trump has said... albeit a couple of friends who had and had said they were taken aback by his common sense.
The trouble with a vaccine is that, well, where are the SARS and MERS vaccines? Same family. Likely the same result i.e. promise. Cavalier and Trump in the same sentence.... say it ain't so lol. They're all gonna react differently given the perceived risk. At the moment the risk of death is relatively low compared to its family members, but there is most definitely time and scope for that to change... and quite possibly as that happens Trumps rhetoric will change. Damned is ya do.....

I find it quite interesting how someone on one hand can be so hot on road safety, many times stating motorcyclists not just putting themselves in danger but others too. Yet, there appears to be a disconnect applying similar principles (common sense, think of other people yadda, yadda) to this virus. Looking at Italy overall road toll for 2016 has an average of 9.13 deaths a day. That means in the last 24 hours, around 14 times more people died in Italy from the virus, than road crashes. And my feeling is the Virus is just getting started.
So why the flippant disconnect man?

People who study epidemics professionally have said that in the early stages of a pandemic the number of cases will double every six days. It doesn't take very many days until the numbers are huge.
The authorities in most countries are trying to stop or slow the spread. On the other hand the USA is doing nothing but block any news but good news - not that there is much of that. Even a doctor who believes he has the symptoms including a fever can't get tested. If people can't get tested there can't be confirmed cases. That seems to be Trump's policy. Which amounts to the adult (more or less) equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears and singing lalalalalalalalala.
Generals controlling US forces overseas have been ordered not to do anything that would contradict anything Trump has said. Brilliant!
Previously when I suggested we ban all travel from the US I was not serious. Now though I believe that would be a really good idea.

If hes not careful he will Jeffery Archer himself as if hes suing they get the right to call him as a witness/witless
Hammered by White and her deputies, Trump ultimately had to admit 30 times that he had lied over the years about all sorts of stuff: how much of a big Manhattan real estate project he owned; the price of one of his golf club memberships; the size of the Trump Organization; his wealth; his speaking fees; how many condos he had sold; his debts, and whether he borrowed money from his family to avoid going personally bankrupt. He also lied during the deposition about his business dealings with career criminals.
Trump's poor performance stemmed in part from the fact that he was being interrogated by shrewd attorneys wielding his own business and financial records against him. But there were lots of other things that went wrong as well.
