View Full Version : The American (USA) 2016 presidential elections thread?

Okay, fair point - so let us both not ascribe things to each other then?
Let me try a different tack, perhaps I wasn't clear in what I meant - Not liking Trump is fine, that's your right.
Groovy. I appreciate your reasonable discussion.
Using a dislike of Trump to then spur multiple spurious attempts to get him removed from office simply because you don't like him and can't accept the election result - is not fine.
I can agree with that.
The thing is, I don't think that's what's going on.
From what I see, they get evidence of possible wrong-doing ... and investigate. As they should.
If after the Impeachment process (if he Wins), you maintain a Dislike of Trump, that's completely okay - but will you accept that he is the Legitimate President and oppose further tactics and politicing to remove him from office? Will you denounce the reports of him that are full of half-truths deliberately omitted, to make him look bad?
If you will not vindicate him if he wins, then what point is there?
If the impeachment investigation fails to provide evidence worthy of impeachment *, I will happily say he should not be impeached.
Heck, I can even agree right now he's (technically **) the legitimate president of the U.S.
But ... that does not mean that further evidence of other possible crimes should not be investigated.
Being innocent of one crime ... or even if one were universally "liked" ... does not make one innocent of all potential crimes.
(* Of course, even if it does, actions could by stymied by the Republicans, as they seem to love power and Trump more than their country.)
(** There was interference, so his presidency is at the very least tainted. It's a big issue for Democracy in the current World.)

No Austin, he is not saying that at all. You are putting words in his mouth.
I guarantee you, if it were flipped, and the democrats were asking Ukraine to investigate and get dirt on Trump, you would be singing Vindmans praises and hailing him as a true patriot. You not being able to get past the left is wrong, right is correct in every instance is blinding you to the truth.
I saw a great comment in the forum I just linked ( http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6 ).
Someone was wondering how people could see/hear what Trump says/does and still come out in support.
It was then compared to wrestling. Everybody knows it's fake, but they sort of make themselves believe because they want to.
(I think the Venn diagram of wrestling fans and Trump supporters would have a pretty good overlap too!)

Did you see the clown world vid I posted in the other thread. Some of the next generation are a real worry imo. Not all though.
The problem with "looking after the place better" is that its going to be rooted in communist idealogies and its not going to go how the people like extinction rebellion, Antifa and Greta thumberg think its going to go.
The cocks dancing around and getting their comeuppance on those trains in britain is a good example of what will really happen.
Because most people realize survival is not necessarily tied to "looking after the place better". Which means groups like extinction rebellion and people following Greta will always be the 1% (just like the supposed elite actually but way less influential) and probably some of them even mean well but they will be used as playthings by those that dont.

I can agree with that.
The thing is, I don't think that's what's going on.
From what I see, they get evidence of possible wrong-doing ... and investigate. As they should.
My personal take, is that suppose everything they say is true, that Trump asked a foreign country to look into Biden's son for dodgy dealings in that Foreign country and in return would release promised aid - I don't see a whole lot wrong here, it's no different from what most countries do, it may be a bit more explicit, but again, I don't find it anymore or less wrong that what happens.
I'll freely admit that this probably makes me more of a jaded cynic than anything else.
Then there is the secondary issue, it seems to me that they are grasping at straws and trying to find anything (no matter how trivial) that they can (ab)use to try and get their way.
Being innocent of one crime ... or even if one were universally "liked" ... does not make one innocent of all potential crimes.
For sure, there's no disagreement there, I've cut this out of line because I think the key point is the one that follows:
If the impeachment investigation fails to provide evidence worthy of impeachment *, I will happily say he should not be impeached.
Heck, I can even agree right now he's (technically **) the legitimate president of the U.S.
But ... that does not mean that further evidence of other possible crimes should not be investigated.
That's fair. But consider this - if you were driving around and everytime you drove your car, there was immediately a Police car on your tail that would pull you over the for slightest of mistakes (didn't indicate at a roundabout, didn't indicate for at least 3 seconds etc.) - you would say that it was harassment and not the proper conduct of the Police.
I'll accept that as the leader of the US there is an increased level of Oversight that is warranted, but this inquisitorial desperation to find any and every little thing that could be used to try and usurp him is much like the example above.
(* Of course, even if it does, actions could by stymied by the Republicans, as they seem to love power and Trump more than their country.)
Listening to some Conservative Commentators (Ben Shapiro is a good example of this), I don't think that's a fair characterization of them - a lot of them are only too happy to be Critical of Trump when he does something stupid (the aforementioned Ben is a great example of this), but conversely, they are also prepared to accept when Trump has done something good (or at least they think is good) - it's this last bit that's lacking. Consider the TPPA, the various activist groups were all up in arms about it. Trump came in, pulled the deal and it died - not one of them could even acknowledge that he did something they liked.
(** There was interference, so his presidency is at the very least tainted. It's a big issue for Democracy in the current World.)
I disagree - there must be a number of questions asked (and for the record, I don't agree there was interference):
1: Was the (supposed) interference more or less than previous elections?
2: Was the (supposed) interference causal to the election of Trump as opposed to corelating?
3: Did the (supposed) interference cause a massive demographic shift in Voters?
On the first point - if there was interference (and I don't think there was to any noticeable degree), then I put it to you it was no more or less than any other interference and at any point in time (case in point - the Soviet's funding of Socialist political groups in the US)
On the second point - You can point to a number of factors that would appear to be more causal than any interference - Trumps fundamental message, Hilary's disdain for the working class American (the basket of Deplorables), discontent at certain policies that appear to benefit the city-dwelling masses vs the heartland of the US etc.
The last point is perhaps the most key - in the Election, same as every other election ~50% voted Republican, ~50% voted Democrat, there was no fundamental shift in voting behavior. What we did see, is that Trump focused a huge amount of energy on Swing states, much more than Hilary, add into that how the Electoral College works - Trump effectively played the game to win. He went after people in the areas where he would need people to vote for him, compared to Hilary who (comparatively) only campaigned in areas were people will vote for her.
That there wasn't a sizeable shift in Voting behavior means that any interference had a negligible effect, whereas Trump's campaign strategy seems to have been much more causal to his success.

Interesting if longish read in The Independent.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry-latest-russia-mueller-ukraine-zelensky-a9181641.html
In all of that the following paragraph struck me as the most interesting.
And the information being requested has left allies astonished. One British official with knowledge of Barr’s wish list presented to London commented that “it is like nothing we have come across before, they are basically asking, in quite robust terms, for help in doing a hatchet job on their own intelligence services”.
Also completely unrelated to that, Trump has announced that henceforth he will be resident in Florida. This has people guessing as to what the motivation of the life long New Yorker might be. One suggestion concerns bankruptcy. Most US states exclude the primary dwelling from bankruptcy proceedings but limit the value, typically to around three to four hundred thousand. Florida has no limit. And Trump does have a history of bankruptcies.

You may be right, but my personal feelings are it also points to why he is so desperate to keep his tax records secret, never mind they will very likely show a lot of loans from Russian oligarchs. Which is a bad look for a US President to owe Russians money due to leverage yadda yadda.

Kudos to the man who has scooped this story. Apparently he uncovered all this weeks ago.
His name is Greg Rubini.
https://twitter.com/GregRubini?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp% 7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
On October 18th, 2016 there was a 1pm luncheon honoring (then) Prime Minister of Italy... Matteo Renzi.
Here is a list of some attendees of that meal:
1. John Brennan
2. Susan Rice
3. Joe Biden
4. Nancy Pelosi
5. John Kerry
6. Loretta Lynch
7. John Podesta
8. Tony Podesta
9. Valerie Jarrett
10. James Clapper
11. James Comey
12. Charles Kupchan
13. Eric Ciaramella
So... you probably don't know who the 12th and 13th men are on this list even if you follow politics.
The thirteenth person is the "Whistleblower" that approached Adam Schiff. The 12th person is his boss. Anybody thats vaguely followed US politics will know who the first eleven are.
Rubini has also pointed out the connections via Ukraine which are all totally undeniable.
So the MSM is avoiding all this sort of stuff like the plague which is why those like sugilite on this forum are going to get hit by a ton of bricks once all the really juicy stuff comes out and the MSM cant control the narrative anymore.
For the people that are slow.
We have an ongoing and undeniable COUP attempt on a duly elected president of the USA and most people in the world are still clueless.
Cliffs: on Eric
-Started at CIA
-Registered Democrat held over on Trump Admin from Obama White House, was Ukraine director for Obama Admin
-Worked for Biden/Brennan and traveled with Biden to Ukraine - was Biden's Ukraine "point man"
-Ties to Biden, Brennan, Clapper, Schiff, Rice prior to whistleblowing
-Worked with Dems and Brennan to help the Russia Hoax - he was cited in the Muller Report
-Invited DNC anti-Trump Russia hoax operatives to the Trump White House
-Fired from Trump's White House in 2017 for leaking - then went back to working at the CIA (wtf?)
-Among others, was the "anonymous source" for false media narrative Putin ordered President Trump to fire James Comey (LOL!)
-After hearing from somebody else about Trump's Ukraine call, he met with Schiff's team (filled w/ past co-workers he's close with) for "guidance" weeks before officially whistleblowing
-He's how this whole impeachment process began
This whole thing is a massive joke. Never forget the lunacy on how this impeachment process started.
After being fired for leaking, how was this guy allowed back in the CIA? He needs to brought in for testimony ASAP. No wonder Democrats have been hiding him and using all their powers to shield this from Republicans.

Yeah. MAGAts are truly insane, they'll believe any nonsense. Hillary Clinton is a mass murderer, she ran a child sex ring in the basement of a pizza place, arrests are imminent in a huge international child sex conspiracy. Although that story having been running for a couple of years now they are rather misusing the word 'imminent'. NASA are kidnapping children and sending them to Mars where their organs are harvested. Then there's Benghazi, Uranium One, and a conspiracy theory about a missing DNC server in Ukraine. If all else fails, there's always (gasp!) her emails.
(Trump supporters do seem to have an unhealthy interest in child sex though.)
Yet they've got a criminal mental case in the White House and they think he's a Christian.

If you look into the backgrounds of half the journos at CNN (and all the rest but the ones at CNN are particularly blatantly obvious) there heaps of them that have done stints at the CIA. Its a common theme.
And its not a coincidence.

So heaps of half the journalists at CNN have worked at the cia? What percentage is heaps?

Its inconsequential weather they worked there OR are handled by the CIA.
What you will find is some of them have previously worked at the CIA and thats not difficult to find info on its all online and easy to find proof of like Cooper. The more difficult ones to prove are obviously the ones that are directly handled by the CIA.
Obviously upper management and ceo's would be the more obvious ones taking orders like the one currently at CNN.
So heaps or half whatever the number is there are a shit load of them.
They were doing this back in the 60's under an operation called operation mockingbird. This stuff is not new and its even more pervasive and obvious since obama and co changed the law in 2012 to allow the media to propagandize the US people.

I dont care about Alex jones either way I just think the guy is hilarious.
He's a performance actor and is good for a laugh but he also does say some legit shit... its just a shame he has to act like a raving lunatic to get his message across. The fact of the matter is he's "possibly" been wrong about one thing and theres really no evidence either way.
The whole sandy hook thing was a concerted effort by the deepstate to shut him up because the stuff he is saying hurts them alot.

Trump just finished a rally where he stood in front of thousands of people and pointed out exactly the bullshit behind this "whistleblower" who is just another TDS lunatic like yourself. Here's his lawyer in 2017 plotting the coup.
The Democratic operative attorney representing the anti-Trump whistleblower vowed to "get rid of Trump", and said that the "#coup has started" in 2017 tweets.
Mark Zaid, the John Podesta, Clinton and Schumer-linked attorney who founded the anti-Trump nonprofit 'Whistleblower Aid' in 2017, tweeted "It's very scary. We will get rid of him, and this country is strong enough to survive even him and his supporters. We have to."
He also tweeted "#coup has started" after former AG Sally Yates was fired for "refusing to enforce a legal order" from Trump.

Um - why is Eric Ciaramella's name in the congressional
Impeachment testimony?
Dems said they would redact the name of the
"whistleblower."
2 explanations:
1. Ciaramella is not the whistleblower
2. Dems messed up BIG TIME & printed the name of the
leaker in their own document

I've been having a few days away from all the insanity in the news. Back to reality now though.
I see Gym Jordan has got himself onto the Congressional Intelligence Committee. I wouldn't have considered him to be particularly intelligent but at least he isn't taking legal action against an imaginary cow like the guy he's replacing. By way of mitigation, Nunes' suing an imaginary cow is entirely consistent with his owning an imaginary farm.
Gym is a good choice to orchestrate a cover up. He covered up the sexual abuse of school boys under his charge for years. Last time there was a court case he slid out from under. Next time? Perhaps justice will finally be served. The Republicans will just have to find someone else of sufficiently low moral character for the Intelligence Committee. That shouldn't pose a problem.
Parts of that may read a bit weird to some of you, but under the 'very stable genius' weird is the new normal.
Oh! Then there's also the whistleblower. Trump and his sycophants (and the MAGAts) rant endlessly about the whistle blower. It's no good trying to explain it to them, from Trump down they're too dim to get it. For the brighter KB audience, the whistleblower is irrelevent now. He brought the crime to light. Since then career diplomats, a distinguished military officer, and others, have confirmed his details. Trump is clearly guilty of extortion.
Recent polls suggest that 50% of the US population now want Trump impeached and removed from office. There might be some interesting TV coming up as the hearings are televised? If the Democrats don't fuck it up.

The problem with that statement, is that Trump has been running multiple businesses successfully, since the 1970s.
Kinds runs contrary to the 'if he were a CEO...' point.
Furthermore, to the excerpt you quoted (CBF reading the thing), by what right do those that are resisting the President get to do so? This is much the same attitude as is happening with Brexit - that the great unwashed masses must be saved from themselves by the enlightened intelligencia.

My Honest answer is probably around the same ball park as every other President in US history, although things like the Invasion of Iraq, the 5 Eyes surveillance setup etc. I'd even go so far to say probably LESS than every other president in recent US history....
We are talking about a man whose companies have been sued more than 3000 times. There is that saying where there is smoke their is fire. :msn-wink:
3000 times, for 500 companies some of which have been around for 30 years - that's nothing!
I once did IT for a Real Estate/rental company who said words to the effect of 'If we don't have a current lawsuit, we aren't doing things properly' (although I should point out that the context of this comment was to do with evicting shitty tenants)

I know of people like that, some people who look at a contract and reason that it is cheaper to sue in court, than pay for the item. However, I feel it is fair to point out that I doubt that Trump runs Accounts Receivable directly. The most you could levy at him would be turning a blind-eye to underhanded (but legal) business practices.

Even his hardcore lefty audience laughed their asses off at that one.

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-administration-epa-science-medical-research-public-health-pollution-a9199416.html%3famp
I feel like I've read 3 separate articles:
The Headline.
What the new EPA policy is.
What the Interpretation by Advocacy groups is.
First point to make is that any statement made by an interest group must be treated with healthy skepticism. This applies to all Interest groups, including the ones I'm a part of. I've got my agenda and it's almost always about making things better for me, in reference to what I believe.
Next we have to discuss that certain scientific fields have suffered from a large Ideological tilt. Climate is the obvious one, the Medical field to a lesser degree. Some 'research' is being done to purely to prove a political end, than it is to answer questions about the world as we know it.
An example that stuck in my mind was a published scientific article claiming that Abattoir workers had high levels of PTSD, what was interesting was the large amount of Marxist theory stated, referenced and cited in the article that was used to backup certain claims. Now, it's not secret that I'm not a fan of Marxism - that said, the historical record of anytime Marxist doctrines have been implemented should be enough to automatically refute any article that references them.
And yet, the Article was published. Now, to be really fair, we have to consider the above article, that maybe the constant killing of Animals does take some form of toll on a person and maybe there are those that cannot handle it.
The problem is, when the Author of a paper has a clear a priori political agenda that they are seeking only to validate, we aren't doing proper science.
This also applies to various 'studies' that are funded by Lobby groups etc. so I don't want to make out that this critique is only in one direction, it's not.
Back to the EPA - it seems that they want to have full transparency of any study used for Policy making. The spirit of this (assuming good faith) is to allow independent bodies full access to all data (including patient data) to verify any and all claims.
This seems to be a good idea in part, since if everything is out in the open, it can be checked.
Now, the info in the article on the Policy from the EPA doesn't specify to what degree Raw Data needs to be presented - certainly if my Full Name, D.o.B, Address and Medical history was made publicly available, I'd be more than a little upset - as would anyone else.
However, if it was anonymous data, then I don't see a problem with it.
I do have some concerns over the retroactive nature of the Policy, as I'm not a fan of retrospective changes.
Last comment is to do with the Article itself - and the Advocacy group comments - The anti-Trump bias is clear. If the Headline said 'New rules require increased Transparency for Policy making' - there'd be no furor, no uproar etc. but we don't see that, they are taking the worst possible, uncharitable view, the Headline barely matches what the changes are.
To Sum up: If we take the new policy on Good Faith, then it has a kernel of a good idea. There needs to be clarification as to what degree of transparency they are after (there may be in the full policy, but CBF). This rule would apply equally to both sets of Lobby/Advocacy groups doing 'science' on both sides of the issue - which seems to me to be a good thing as if proper science is done, then the truth will out. If we are using Truth to determine Policy, ultimately we should get better policy.
So that's my take on it.

This is not a first.
When Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin he really didn't do much with it. When WW2 was looking imminent though the Brits decided penicillin would be a good thing to have in industrial quanities, but who to turn to that would have the facilities and the expertise to do the work? Ultimately it was decided that the best people in the world to undertake the task would be the scientists at the US Dept of Agriculture.
Scientists and samples crossed the Atlantic and the staff at the USDA figured out how to churn the stuff out by the 44 gallon drum.
Trump has gutted the US Dept of Agriculture.
One option might be a rambling dissertation - or you could just understand that the ignorant fucker does not like science.

He's had a successful Reality TV Series (You're Fired!)

For those who struggle with simple things, and it does seem we have a few, my statement above contains quotation marks. The comment is not mine, it is attributed to the then US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.
Similarly, I believe it was the then US Secretary of Defence, General Mattis, who described Trump as having the emotional development of a toddler.
I can't recall anybody who has ever implied that Trump was at all bright. Other than, of course, Trump himself. Trump has allegedly threatened all of the educational institutions with which he was involved that he would sue if they released any of his records. Hardly the actions of a "very stable genius".

Doesn't matter who it's attributed to.
Could be attributed to God for all I care.
The Simple fact is, he's been successful. To do that requires Intelligence. If you were to look at any one of his Careers, that would be more than enough for a single person to be considered successful, except he's done them all.
There have been plenty of people who have inferred that Trump must have a high IQ of some degree (estimates around the 150-170 mark), but, you'd need to step out of your Echo Chamber to hear them.
I'll simply repeat - denying reality is the mark of a cult believer, and to state he's neither smart nor successful is definitely denying reality.

Also, at least one of those is disputed (only being attributed to him by a 3rd party), others are out of Context. Still doesn't outweigh his other achievements.

"Adam Schiff Associate Arrested By LAPD On Pedophilia Charges
Dr. Bruce Hensel, a long-term associate of Rep. Adam Schiff, has been arrested in Los Angeles on pedophilia related charges after he asked a 9-year-old girl to send him sexually suggestive pictures, according to prosecutors and law enforcement.
Rep. Adam Schiff and Dr. Hensel have been closely linked for years, with the LA Times describing the doctor as a “special guest” at Schiff’s 50th birthday party in 2010. Schiff also handpicked Dr. Hensel to work with him on health care townhalls in California and has been the recipient of big dollar donations from the 71-year-old throughout his political career.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Dr. Hensel was arrested Wednesday morning in Beverly Hills and charged with contact with a minor for sexual purposes.
The arrest came after a child sexual exploitation investigation involving the 9-year-old after inappropriate messages and photographs were shared between the child and Dr. Hensel. The 71-year-old was booked for contact with a minor with the purpose of committing sexual acts"

Yeah. "Deep state" is one of those give aways, there is no such thing, it's a nutjob conspiracy theory.
Trump accused yesterday's witnesses of being "never Trumpers" which is also absurd. Both had served under multiple presidents from both parties, and Taylor was brought out of retirement and appointed Ambassador to Ukraine by the idiot-in-chief hmself.
The process is interesting. Trump is guilty as charged: he has admitted it, his Chief of Staff also admitted it live on TV. The question is whether the inquiry can convince enough voters of that fact - and that it matters. If it can, he's gone. If not, when it gets to the Senate for the "trial" phase, the Republicans will continue to stand by him.
Whether they stand by him to the extent he is the candidate in 2020 is another thing.

“It was not my intention to doubt that, the Doctrines of the Illuminati, and principles of Jacobinism had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more truly satisfied of this fact than I am. The idea that I meant to convey, was, that I did not believe that the Lodges of Free Masons in this Country had, as Societies, endeavoured to propagate the diabolical tenets of the first, or pernicious principles of the latter (if they are susceptible of seperation). That Individuals of them may… actually had a seperation [sic] of the People from their Government in view, is too evident to be questioned.” – George Washington, 1st President of the United States (1789–1797), from a letter that Washington wrote on October 24, 1798, which can be found in the Library of Congress.

Seth Rich (one of the DNC's own staffers) leaked all the data to wikileaks and then was killed for it.

Harold Bornstein, Mr Trump's longtime personal doctor, said he made up the glowing bill of health on the president's orders.
"He dictated that whole letter. I didn't write that letter," Dr Bornstein told CNN.
At the time Dr Bornstein was widely ridiculed for the assessment, with sceptics pointing out it was eerily similar to Mr Trump's manner of speaking,
Dr Bornstein, who was Mr Trump's personal doctor for more than 30 years, also claimed the president's bodyguard later took possession of his medical records in an episode that felt like a "raid."
Dr Bornstein said that Mr Schiller and another "large man" were in his office for about 30 minutes and "created a lot of chaos".
The February 2017 incident left him feeling "raped, frightened and sad", he told NBC News.
It turns out trump as well as lying about his health is lying about his height and weight also.
Hes overstating his height by at least 2-3 inches and his weight by at least 20 pounds.

Are you sure that they were real "war criminals" ? It's not like the
Pentagon to be opposing pardon of "war criminals". Especially when
the people involved are members of the "home team".
But you did raise an interesting point: Presidential Pardons.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_pardoned_or_granted_clemency_by_the _president_of_the_United_States
Makes interesting reading. Especially in light of your comment about
Don granting pardons to three US military personnel:
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/11/15/politics/trump-war-crimes-intervenes/index.html
But if Don keeps this pace up, he'll soon eclipse Bill Clinton.
Ukraine
On a separate note, Don's current spot of bother re the Ukraine puzzles me.
I can still recall the 1981 Iran Contra saga, where Ronny Reagan's team sold
some arms to Iran (something to do with release of US hostages), and then
proceeded to use the proceeds from the arms sale to supply the Contras
(fighting the Nicaraguan government). You can read about it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Contra_affair
It seems like the current Ukrainian scandal is just another one of those
"weapons-for-weapons" scandals, though in Don's case, one "weapon" is
simply the supply of information on his likely Democrat rival, Joe Biden.
The interesting part about the Iran Contra affair is that it was facilitated
by Marc Rich, who were pardoned in 2001 by Bill Clinton - after a suitable
sized donation to the Democrats and the Clinton Foundation (listed in the
first link above).
You'd have thought that would have set some sort of legal precedent, and
that Don could claim immunity from impeachment (on that point, anyway).
It's also a little rich (sorry, not pun intended) in irony, in that during the
Obama reign, Biden was really keen to send weapons (Javelins) to Ukraine
in order to wind up the Russians. But Obama resisted that request, despite
Biden's objections.
And what does Don do ? He releases some money for the purchase and supply
of Javelins to Ukraine (just as the Democrats had wanted) - and now, what
thanks does he get ? Talk about ungrateful.
The other point which made me smile was announcement of the appointment
of the new Ambassador to Ukraine (William Taylor, Jnr).
It seems (reading his bio) that after William left the US State Department, he
went to work for the US Peace Institute. An oxymoron, if ever there was one.
And once having joined, he then actively campaigned for a more robust policy
towards Russia in Ukraine.
Apparently, Taylor was all for preserving "rules based order" in Ukraine. Though
I couldn't quite work out "whose rules and whose orders".
But Don, I'd be a little bit worried about this week's coup (in Bolivia).
I know that the CIA made a mess of the Ukrainian one back in 2014, and the
Venezuelan one was an absolute shambles, but they might have gotten their
game back together in more recent months.
It might be time to consider "early retirement" and "spending more time with
the family" (or on the golf course).
But, should you decide to remain - and the other crowd do actually decide
(and manage) to impeach you - then offer you a face saving pardon after
the fact, I'd just make damn sure to get a receipt for any donation made.
It's bound to be tax deductible.

Quote from "Iran Hostage Crisis" Wiki
The Iran hostage crisis negotiations were negotiations in 1980
and 1981 between the United States Government and the Iranian
Government to end the Iranian hostage crisis. The 52 American
hostages, seized from the US Embassy in Tehran in November
1979, were finally released on 20 January 1981.
Part of the US hostage crisis resolution reached involved an
(unauthorised) supply of weapons to Iran. Then involved in a
war with Iraq (1980-1988), a war in which the US supplied
weapons to both Iran and Iraq.
This was followed by the Boland Amendment in 1982.

You can disgree as much and as often as you like it will not change the facts the major problem with what you are saying is that's not the hostages the contra deal was about, they were hostages from Lebanon
not Iran. you are thinking iranian hostages means the iranian embassy hostages it does not.
https://www.nytimes.com/1991/12/08/world/iran-pipeline-hidden-chapter-special-report-us-said-have-allowed-israel-sell.html
The official justification for the arms shipments was that they were part of an operation to free seven American hostages being held in Lebanon by Hezbollah, a paramilitary group with Iranian ties connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The plan was for Israel to ship weapons to Iran, for the United States to resupply Israel, and for Israel to pay the United States. The Iranian recipients promised to do everything in their power to achieve the release of the hostages. However, as documented by a congressional investigation, the first Reagan-sponsored secret arms sales to Iran began in 1981 before any of the American hostages had been taken in Lebanon. This fact ruled out the "arms for hostages" explanation by which the Reagan administration sought to excuse its behavior
