I think Ive found the problem with the bike. Drive chain has a tight spot and when load is put on it it jumps makeing a clunking sound, so it looks like I have to put the x up flap back cos I have lost all bottom end power and it sounds like a Gixxer.:gob:

What about the oil light issues?
BigG
19th January 2009, 06:11
What about the oil light issues? That is another isue I think, I think I will give it an oil and change the fillter because it's an oil level isue I think, could be with all the high reving and the oil getting pushed through more quickly and the level being slightly down could be causing the light to come on. I didnt have a problem comeing home on Sunday but was not riding it hard.
When I first bought the bike simaler thing happened. Be off the road for a while cos I aint got the dosh to fix it yet and I'm off to the beach for a week next week.

Didn't NZSarge have an oil light issue with his ThunderAce? Perhaps they have a faulty pressure switch?

Aye Dooly, can’t make it this weekend as I have work. TB testing on Monday and have to get things sorted for that. Patrick will be down on Sunday for rounds 2. It is hard to get a shed down there so take a Pergola or similar if you don’t like the heat and sun. It is not like Taupo. Have a blast mate but stay upright.

Yep, full covered, with the normal higher excess for the day as per with the other brand TDs.

Hope theres not too many RH corners, damn I hate those at speed on the road.
Ahh well, learning curve.
Dale's been on that track before, I'll just follow him around eh...
Have stripped all the road bits, plate, indicators, mirrors, etc, off the Duc, might as well get some use out of it as a track bike.
But then again a Triumph 675 is veeeerry appealing..........:Punk:

Had a nice little pootle up to Wairoa this arvo. The road wasn't too bad, a little sticky just before Mohaka on the way up. Stopped at the top of Mohaka for a breather in the shade and chatted to a nice couple from Hastings. Passed a group of 4 bikes heading south just after that - anyone from here? We went and visited my brother up there then had afternoon tea - (posh accent here) at Cafe 2ate7 just south of town.
On the way back going up from Devils elbow proved interesting with the back end just slipping out a little on the melty bits. Had a far more testing moment after White Pine Bush on the first of the 35k corners heading south (don't know what that area is called - a ways before the Marae) when the front started to go and it was all I could do to haul the old girl back up! Got back in enough time to get along to see Crusty Demons and see how the crazies do it!!
All in all a great days riding!

Aye Col….. nice to hear you are out and about. You should drop in sometime. I can’t ride on Saturday avo’s so miss the local rides. I have work today but usually we can ride on a Sunday.
The Valley is the Tangoio valley you had the moment in, by the sound of it. Lots of melted tar. Patrick and some of the K/B clan are down at Manfield today slugging it out on the track.

A good day for sure, and bloody hot.
My Pilot Road2s are damn near shredded!
Dale & I went down early Sat, set up camp and had a blast.
Of course Paddy was there riding around everyone, great rider for sure.
Was a real learning curve.
We were in the medium group which had some fast guys plus some of the smaller race bikes.
Bit nervous as my first time ever on a track, and as they say huge difference between road and track riding!!!
First few sessions were hit or miss as I was learning the track, made lots of errors but in the third it all came together and I think I passed about 8 or so bikes, was an awesome buzz.
So out for the 4th session, was going real well, hard up the butt of a guy on a race bike into the first corner.
Left my braking too late, oh fuck......off the track at the end of the straight on the grass into the shingle, thinking.....here comes a drop.
Fortunately the shingle was so soft it bogged down and sunk so that when momentum was lost I managed to get my short legs down and stop a drop.....so all good!!!
Session before I'd bounced the rear end under braking there too, was a bit hairy.
Was having probs all day with that corner and getting my braking right for it, so went out for the last session trying to sort it which I did and got into the groove well.
So an awesome day, Ducati ran well cept for on the straights when the litre Jappas would eat me up of course........need more horsepower!!!!
Dale had a blast rode well, and his VTR was humming.
Have reg for Motto TT Taupo on 27th Feb, so the learn starts all over agin.
Anyone wanna come, room on the bike trailer.

Good stuff Tony. Gota hate the over cooking the corner thing aye. Hehehehe Well done that man.
I recon it might pay to get a set of slicks for the track day if you are going to do them. Change them on and off yourself.
What bike was Patrick riding yesterday?
Dooly
25th January 2009, 11:40
Will try the Duc at Taupo and if I find I want to keep doing TDs (which will prob happen) I will either get some real sticky rubber, and use the Duc only as a track bike, or flick one of my others and get a 675 Daytona for the track.
Patrick was on his RG once when he took me in the esses, then he rode Dan's GSX, when he took me again!!!
I followed him for a bit on his Zuki, watched him ride sweet. Real talent there.
Could catch him on the straights of course with my better top end with the more ccs, but no point trying to pass as the young fulla would just carve me up again round the bends and be gone. So best just let the experts go for it eh
Was a real learn alright, passed quite a few race 2 strokes but they would fly by round the bends leant right over if I had'nt got a good length on them before the corner.
I got a lot to learn and work on, but thats the fun eh.
Ahh ya gotta love it, all good!!!

There has been discussion recently that we may do some Sunday rides starting late morning and spending most of the day out, but nothing's set yet.

What a great day yesterday at Manfield! Was awesome to come in after the 3rd session and see Tony with a big smile on his face :2thumbsup.
The VTR went really well never mssing a beat. Was hitting 8000 RPMs (9500RPM redline) in 6th by the end of the back straight so almost maxed out. Scraped the footpegs a few times and when washing the bike this arvo noticed road rash on the side of the belly fairing so must have been getting her over a bit! Had a couple of moments, as you do, with the front tyre chirping under breaks at the end of the front straight, had the back slew out once when a bit to keen to get the power on coming out of a corner, and almost did a Tony at the end of the back straight when was pushing hard and deep to get past a Speed triple, managed to stay on the black stuff and hit the apex on the exit :2thumbsup.
As Tony has said, Patrick is a great rider, blasting past us through the S's etc, quite humbling!
Thanks Tony and Tina for the hospitality Friday nite and the picnic lunch Saturday. Was nice to have Tina there giving us both plenty of encouragement.

Guys.
Just talking to a bloke I know thru work, he's in the Classic Club, and they hold a ride every last Sat of month and he said they're riding this Sat.
Open to all bikes, and its mostly modern stuff including Japs etc.
Given the hit or miss situation we've been having about folk turning up to BP for our rides and with Rob & George's bikes out of action the numbers will be few or zilch I thought I might go on this ride this Sat.
So why don't any of you who can come too.
They meet or leave at Clive BP at 1.00 on Sat, go for a decent ride then end up at their clubrooms opposite the prison at Bridge Pa for beers etc.
Sounds good.
What ya reckon?

If so might have met you on the RAT rides once or twice, you got the Blade too right? As seen in your profile above?

The Trumpy group seems dead, hardly anyone turns up.
Usually Gerald and whoever. I've missed the Dec one and Jan one as I was at the Triumph day at Taupo.
I've reg for Taupo trackday Feb 27th, are you going to that?
Was gonna get a garage, so theres room to share with a few.
Room on the bike trailer too if Dale is'nt coming.
I like the idea of a track bike soley and a road bike as well.
Just learning the trackday thing atm and have'nt decided whether to keep my Duc as TD only or flick one of the others, well prob the blacky, as I love my Speed Triple for the road, and get a 955 Tona or 675.

:done:Yep i'm registered, would b great 2 share a garage so count me in. Trumpy grp must b hit & miss if u believe sprocket/gerald, he says its goin good & i did spy a good group of them one sunday maybe 4 or 5 months ago but I lost touch & only checked in with sprocket just before the taupo track day. Couldn't go to that one, would have been greedy ( & knackering) to do 3 days in a row, 2 was plenty! Have to say I prefer Kiwi Track Days, 3 groups beats 4.

Ok, I'll check in with ya closer to the time and sort it out, I'll book a garage tommorrow. Hopefully more off here might make it but being a Friday its a bastard. It will be only my 2nd TD and never been on Taupo, and I've booked for group 3, spose you'll be in the fast lot eh.:2thumbsup

Can't make Dale, staying out up Kereru tonight on this piss, so wont get home in time tommorrow.
Interesting ride today.
About 50 bikes, old and new.
Went to Waimarama, but lots of traffic, so slow going. Came back to the Classic Club clubrooms, very nice in the country, yakked to folk I knew, bar and food provided.
Only bad thing on the way back a bbq fell off a ute in the hills just out of Waimarama and a guy on a Vrod ploughed into it.
Think he was hurt, came around corner just after it happened.

Only if you promise to ride at over 100kph !
Went on the Classic ride today. Not my cuppa tea.
Too many bikes going too slowly, then noisy sports bikes passing the queue.
Too dangerous (eg. the poor V-Rod dude) and boring.
Am not into large processional groups so split off at the Waimarama turnoff, rode to Patangata for a cold beer or two.
Would be great if I had a classic, mind... so no disrespect to the Classic Club.

Yeah was a bit dangerous when all the front bikes were slow and bikes ended up grouping up. Two much difference in speed between some bikes.
I think I ended up passing most purely because it was just too slow. I got into first gear at one point!
But a day out none the less.
From my point of view a small group of up to 10 with riders of the same speed and ability is where its at!!!!

Great ride today to Palmy.
Dale & TonyW were going to Wairoa but a change of plan saw them pick me up and we headed to Palmy to the Bikes Unleashed expo.
Tony led us the back way to Danne via Takapau/Ormondville and some other hick towns, then a back way right up to the windmills behind Ashurst, thru Ashurst and onto Palmy.
The bike thingy was very good, very professional, some real classics. Pick for me was Ivan Mauger's bike, immaculate.
Had a good ride home, hit HW50 and gave it a bit of a nudge, cept for some fuckwit dropping lumps of timber off his trailer causing us following to nearly crash. On the brakes, bikes, cars swerving braking hard. I ran over a 4''2 timber, and dunno how a guy on a compressor right behind the trailer never came off.
Dale showed me how to ride his VTR motoX style earlier:niceone: good save dude.

Who is going to Paeroa for da racing? Can’t decide what to do this year. Might take the cage  and take the boys. Hate the car but I think Martin would like to go as he is about to start bucket racing. I think he has worked on our race bike often enough to earn a ride to Paeroa. So what are you all doing? :chase:

Met up with Xan and did the HW50/Patanagata loop yesterday. Met Dave/Morepower at the pub. Quite a few bikes on the road.
Watch for the gold Toyota Aurion mufti bacon. Was parked on the side of the road. Flicked his radar on when I was within 100 metres of him and over 130. Must of not got a good reading as plenty of cars coming towards us too.
Lucky escape, but he still followed us for a bit, then turned around.

Beats trying to send a message thru here if no one is online to see.

Hey ya Dooly .. I created a phone list for the manawatu rider a while ago & also had phone numbers of other kbers from around the country (if your travelling & run into issues - could contact someone)
Some ppl who were happy to be contacted if in need but wanted their numbers to be kept private .. so a master list was created & held by three ppl .. has come in useful several times so far .. even when I was on holiday I was contacted by a kber who had broken down .. could contact someone who actually happened to be in the pub several hundred yards away & went & had a look ...
tis a good idea .. but dunno about having everyone number on internet .. you might get some dodgy ppl having it :devil2 ..... ohh yeah I already have yours  :done:

If you put your phone no/s in your Contact Details (under User CP) then anyone on your Friends list can see it.

I created a KB list for you lot when I was there. Think Wasp27 may have it now but if someone else wants to have it I still have a copy. However, as Chanceyy says some of the people wanted their numbers kept private. So should you want someone's number you get hold of the administrator of the list, and they will contact that person and pass on your number etc.
However, the Administrator needs to be someone that is contactable at all times really.

Well I was, everyone had my mobile number should they need to contact anyone else. However, it didn't work for one instance has I wasn't given the details.
Mind you my mobile is constantly with me, my ma used to say they would one day have to surgically remove it.

The problem with the Kb friends system is that as I said some people are wanting to keep their details private. You may have friends all over New Zealand but only want a selective few knowing your contact details for some reason only known to yourself etc.

Why would you add people to your friends list then?
You also have the option of putting your contact details in there, or not.

Why would you add people to your friends list then?
Some people have different definitions of the word "friends".
You also have the option of putting your contact details in there, or not.
Hence the problem of not being able to get hold of people and that's when the list works well. It's also good for ICE should anything happen on a ride too.

Yes. But what other use is the 'Friends' list on KB. Or Facebook. Or Bebo. Etc.
If it's not for extra 'privileges', what use is it? Bragging - look how many friends I've got? Maybe. For 10 year olds.

No George I am not.
But we had a great ride to Gisy. Bloody hot on the way home. Waved Good bye to Paul in Gisy and headed for home. Really great ride home with just enough traffic to play in. To much at the top of the devils elbow with absolute kayos at the top, end of the passing lane, so W and I slipped up da outside  and then picked the last 3 cars off going down the other side. The heat behind the line of traffic was unreal. Hence we had to consider our own safety and pass all the cars in the line and get some clear air.
Was great to meet up with Paul. Hope the rest of your ride went well mate. how far did you go on the Sunday?

How about this for a ride Sat?
Meet, say Clive BP 1.00 or so, (cant see point of me riding to Napier BP if no one turns up)
Thru Clive/Haumoana/Tuki/Kahuranaki/Patangata for cold one/back road to Waipawa/main road to Te Onepu rd/Raukawa Rd to Bridge Pa/Mangaroa Rd (prison) for stop at Classic Club for cold ones, then home.
Think I'll do that if anyone's interested.

More then likely NOT !!!!! Seat height would be fine tho!
Last & ONLY time I road a 1000 was down Middle Rd back in 1980. Hit a ton & the bike went into a tank slap. Bent frame from Steve's last Production Race off. Thank god for off road & esp Himitangi Beach sand riding!! SORT OF PUT ME OFF!!! But the little Jappa Sportzbike suggested in the Bike Personality Quizz would be awesome! :Punk:
What are you doing on KB when you are meant to be hard slaving then?

What was the prob? It's along story, I dont no wether I've solved it or not but the engine sprocket was a shade loose and with a tight spot in the chain could have been causing the problem, but when I took the chain off and run the gears up and down I think I could still hear a slite knock. However I took it for a short blast and all seemed to be good. So Ive have given it a oil and filter change ready to trade in on something else, but give it a run to Manfeild first make sure it's ok.:niceone:
