Hi. Is this ride on an invite/mates basis only? And if not, is it suited to a DR600 commuter? Best I ask instead of rocking up looking like Osama at GW's birthday party. Cheers

Thanks for that. I might rock on over for a looksee. Even though I'm a little on the shy side (manly version of the concept - thankyou very much !!!) when it comes to meeting people.... maybe I can leave my helmet on and just pretent that I sent my drone out for the social communication aspect.

All's welcome mate.
As long as we all know the route end, its all good.
So if you get left behind or surge ahead of all, no worries.
No chequered flag at end of ride.

Bit naughty being 5 kph over the limit, but you gotta live on the edge a bit now and again.:lol:

Was a good ride, and Te Onepu rd is very sweet to partake in.
Checked out a 09 Daytona 675 at the Classic clubrooms too.

Yep. Got home. Found it hard to stop riding though... I kind of wanted to attempt the 'energizer' meets 'Ride On soundtrack' trick. But needed food, shower and to look at some dirty pictures of near naked Suzkuki's (even though I'm turned on by a fully dressed one at the mo)

And... oh yes, I'm keen on tomorow !!! Sadly, at this point in my riding life I might still be a bit of an anchor - tempo wise - but am eager to learn the ropes.

Will need to practice using equipment below my knee's with those heavyduty boots on. Brakes and gears vs boots hehehe.

Cheers for a great ride today people... sorry for the hold up, but...... I loved it :niceone:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind offer from Tony W to borrow his 400 for yesterday. Only prob as I told him, I would be going so carefully on it that I would be faster on my 200!!!
A great & v hot day last Sat doing 42 Trav & Fishers Track.

Good ride today me and Dale.
Went HW50 down to Onga Onga, thru there to Ypawa, a nice stretch of road.
Back to Patangata.
Saw a hot chick on a GSXR600, full leathers.:niceone:
Back Middle rd to Havelock for a coffee, thru Tuki rd to Clive, back home.

I think that stretch of Onga rd has some kind of magnetic field as it played havoc with our speedos. Took them right to the end:niceone:
Must get it seen to.

Wow! What a weekend at the Nats! We marshalled on point 7 so had an awesome view of the whole track, esp the hairpin and the sweeper.
A lot of argy bargy, elbow shoving going on in the superbikes, but the racing was so exciting. I can't believe the speeds those guys reach, and how close together they ride.
Sketchy racer was superb...really nice to see him give Glen Williams the learn. He had to work bloody hard for it tho.
Didn't catch up with many of you guys, but glad you enjoyed your day.

Yes, indeed. It was a mint weekend. Point 7 at the end of the back straight, with it's brilliant view of the esses and hairpin, is a great spot to spend an hour or 6...
Superbikes display scary amounts of tyre slippage and shock bounce (with front off the tarmac) when they lay on the power out of the hairpin.
Glenn Skatchell is definitely one to watch. How he managed to win on his F3 450 and then go straight back out on his 600 S.Sport...and still do well...I don't know.
And what about that young lady, Avalon, on the GP125. A new track record....

Sold blacky today.

Escorted the buyer from my house to BP Bayview via Puketapu about 5ish. Off to Tauranga he was
Tooted out to ya Warwick.
Pissed down whole way back home, torrential in some parts.
Wind blew my whisper kit out of my fucked helmet, lost forever down Swamp rd.
Have to buy a new helmet, had enough!!!

Did'nt mind the rain, keeps me on my toes and a chance to use my limited wet skills.
Ducati ran well in the wet.

Everytime I've been there the service, in parts dept, has been good.

Who should I see there decked out in all the gear and a new acqusition, our newest HB rider to the group Schado.
Lets just say he won't be holding us up now, not that he did anyway last weekend, rode that dirty well in the twisties.
He'll prob pass most of us now.

IMHO you'd be better to go in the opposite direction first and get that shitty bit for Weber to Wimbledon out of the way earlier, then you can enjoy the rest of those outstanding southern-central HB roads on the way home.

There are a few stopover points and quite a variation of contours
Gas is easy as you can get either end etc - Ypuk or Danevegas or even Pahiatua - the road thru to Nth Wairarapa is all sealed now as well
Could even have a graze at Akitio beach at the local

:woohoo:Well I couldn't get there for the racing but went one better & did the track day with Brian Bernard & Gareth Jones yesterday. Rain threatened & finally arrived about 2pm but by that stage everyone was knackered & happy to call it quits. Not my best day personally, think my rear tyre's a bit out of shape, kept letting go & one time quite spectacularly when Brian was following me, coming out of Dunlop. How I stayed on I have no idea!:gob: New set of tyres on the way but I think I've got some suspension adjustments required too, kept wanting to run really wide if I tried any decent corner speed. Anyone know someone around here who might be able to help?

Dooly, sorry to be a piker but looks at this stage that I might have to miss Taupo next Friday:shit:, wife is away for a few days & my youngest goes off on cub camp same day so I need to be at home to despatch him unless some miracle happens (like he decides he doesn't want to go, could still happen!!:msn-wink:)

So just in case, I've registered with Kiwi Track Days on the Sunday as a fallback plan. Kiwi are better anyway, only 3 groups so more riding time so make a weekend of it Dooly & anyone else!:Punk:

Have fun with your weekend ride this weekend, Paeroa or otherwise. I've got a mate down from Akld, Saturday will be a day in Napier for Art Deco but Sunday arvo could be the go if anyone's around.:scooter:

I might check the ride from Burger Fuel out this Sunday.

Copy & paste from email...

BurgerFuel Napier & Five Star Suzuki

BurgerFuel and Five Star Suzuki invite you to

"BIKE CLUB"

Sick of being a lone rider in the big wide world. Its much more fun doing it as a group. You usually pay more for that type of action.

On the last Sunday of every month we will be having a ride from Burgerfuel Napier. This event will start at 11am and go for as long as your fun pass allows.

Riders will get a discount for their lunch and cool spot prizes will be supplied by the sponsors. That's Burgerfuel and Five Star Suzuki for the slower ones among us.

So put on your chaps (pants compolsary people) and leathers and we will see you there.

Where: BurgerFuel Napier

70 Carlyle St Napier

When: Last Sunday of every month

Next Ride: Sunday 22nd February

Time: 11am

Congratulations Brent.

Now I need some help from you guys here.
I was sure I did a much faster time than that, years ago in my car.
I referred to the HB Car Club history book and sure enough, on 17 October 1992, my time was 52.50 (FTD)

If the bike is pushing / understeering it could be too low in the rear , probably a bit more rear preload will help . here is a good site on the subject of suspension set up.

Can't make Paeroa, have to go to a do on Sat night which will make the next morn pretty bad for an early start, especially when needing to concentrate on the bike.

Me to! I will do the Burger Fuel trip on Sunday 2 up. They seem to get quite a reasonable turnout with some nice bikes. The franchise owner rides a duc and is a pretty good guy from the dealings I have had with him.

How was yesterdays ride Tony? I should have taken the offer up had a shit arvo and then some wanker clipped my car mirror trying to squeeze past me in his car on the inside while I was waiting to make a right turn and blammed me!

Oh, took a deep breath, decided what ever happens re another bike for me (i.e. Daytona 675 on the wish list), as I will keep the VTR ordered in a Ohlins rear shock yesterday

BTW Thanks Morepower for the advice, have been reading up a bit & working on a few ideas for the running wide problem, gotta be something to do with the front end coming up a bit too quick on the exit, probably underdamped on rebound but also some rear end adjustments in play too. I'd so love to go for a nice long 'out of town' ride, but am not up for staying away overnight at this stage.

(for those who are... give it heaps - but be sure to make it back to HB in good shape... I need good people to ride with !!!)

E N J O Y

This is a day trip, not over night. It is only 3 and a half hours away.

I don’t know how your bike is set-up but I lifted the rear shock by 10mm. That made a lot of difference. I believe one turn on the preload ( rear )equals 3mm on the front with the GSX-R. So my advise is, you take the bike and some tools and find a piece of road, like the Taihape road just out of Fern Hill and ride the same piece of road and corners for a few hours. Small adjustments on each end of the bike at a time and you will find the sweet spot. It can take a few hours but you will get it. Also remember to look to the vanishing point and keep your eyes lifted. A lot of riders try and look at the road in front of them and it leads to all sorts of cornering problems. Look a long way down the road and to the vanishing point in a corner and the corners will feel like silk. That’s a nice feeling….. Happy playing

However in saying this I have a mate, Jan, who could not get his RF sorted. Turns out the shock needed re gassing and stuff. It came right as soon as the shock was reconditioned. Could be the problem.

Have a great weekend

BigG. What you talkin bout Willis?... you were no more than 30 seconds behind at the longest... and most of the time you looked pretty good in my rear-view mirror (I mean your bike, helmet and gear aye). Yourself and the other two dots in the forward distance are 'ok' hehehe (whew, cos I was a little worried I'd be outta my zone - whatever that is). As Schado said, your pace was only half a click off ours as you were never more than a few corners behind. Besides, you know the rules, you have to pick up any stragglers eh Dooly

Schado and I had a latte and wedges at the Gin Trap after the ride. Nice way to kick back and relax, we should invest more time in those type of after rides activities guys!

Naa, great ride, quite a technical road that, especially with a bit of shingle and speed. Must admit when leading had a few little issues on blind exit corners as only been on it twice before. But all good.

Its a much better ride on the return leg for some reason, maybe you give it a bit more respect than earlier?

Had a neat ride to Waipatiki first, then Tutira, and then we decided to head to Wairoa today. Had a munch at Cafe 287.
About 7 or 8 of us from the Burger Fuel place.
Good to meet new folk, hopefully they'll join our crew.

One of the best rides to Wairoa for me, no traffic, had the road to myself, got in the groove, was all good.

Way back was a different story, lots of traffic, bacon galore, cunning one flicked his radar on me as I exited a corner rather fast. Fortunately I saw him and backed off quick before the lock got me, ear piece going nuts.

Just got home from a great day out. The racing was stunning and the eye candy was unbelievable. Ouch…. Moooooo just hit me. Aye Dale could you post the pic of the Playboy girls? Mooo wants to check out the competition.

Was a 9/10 day. Only spoilt by the interview one of our bikes had with the tax man. Not for me to say who or how much but I can say it wasn’t Alvin or myself cos we don’t speed. As it would appear.

The racing was stunning and so bloody fast. Well done to everyone that competes at this level.

As long as you take plenty of water, sunscreen and a umbrella you feel fresh and ready to ride. I saw some people so sun burnt they will be sick for days. Thanks for the stand plate you made me after last year W. Was fantastic. So many people had to look for bits of wood and I saw dozens of gloves under side stands to stop them digging in to the ground.

Our ride up was dry but most of the roads were wet. Our trip home was premo. We stopped for dinner in Taupo and meet up with Rob, Cindy and Dave. Picked up another 4 bikes as we left Taupo and had a safe ride home.

Time for sleep but that was a great day. Hope everyone got home safe. Thinking of you DR girl. Heal fast.

Still didn’t catch you at the track Tart. Did see plenty of others but you must have been avoiding me…….. again…………. Did see Chicky in the pits. Hope she got the hat? When I saw her she was waging a campaign to out do the playboy girls. How did it go Chicky ? :2thumbsup

I tell ya my leg was bloody sore by the time I got home though. Didn't manage to walk around too much due to that so wasn't able to catch up with the rest of you which was a bugger. Only I could be so clumsy. However, the day was absolutely awesome once again!!:woohoo:

You are welcome Sticky! It was great to sit and catch up!

DR girl..heal up mate!

Racing was awesome, and the weather was fine...I even got a touch of sunburn!! Had an eventful trip home...Paeroa must think that if you come to racing you MUST be from Auckland..they kept lots of the roads closed and directed us to the Auckland road..in the end (after about half an hour) we just drove thru the barriers!

Got caught on the Taupo Rd, again for about half an hour, due to an accident. Three bikes lost it in a diesel/oil slick. Bits of bikes spread all over the place. Oil on both lanes
Didn't look good for the riders..I hope they are going to be alright.

Edit: Just learned that one of the riders has died.
RIP

We were told at the scene that there was oil all over the road. Couldn't quite believe it....why there, of all places? The 75k right-hander just over the top of the climb after the cafe on the left at the end of the plains. The road is banked so anything on the Napier-bound side just runs down and across the Taupo-bound lane.
Today I learn that a 4litre oil pack appears to have been 'lost' off a trailer or something. Great skills to the fucken knob :angry2: that allowed that to happen.
Poor buggers that hit that never had a chance.
We talked to 2 uninvolved riders at the scene. One on a lovely old 1100 Slabby and the other on an RF. Both from Hastings. The RF rider walked his bike through the slick (!!) and well down the road to try and clean the tyres and his boots. Once he got riding again we sat behind him all the way to the summit cafe, just so's he could be sure of immediate assistance should he have missed a bit on his tyres. But all good, so left him to it. A very nervous/tense rider...terrible lines etc. But after seeing the prang/oil etc, would any of us be any different?

Well here I am sitting over at the Hastings Hopspital with my laptop killing time. My 18yr old son (who joined us at burger fuel after yest ride but not feeling the best) ended up in ED last nite and in surgery as I type having his appendix out.

Mixed feelings over yesterdays ride. Great ride out and up to wairoa but struggled to find the groove on the way back. Never felt entirely comfortable on the trip home, just one of those things I guess. Managed to scrape the underbelly fairing on a tight right hander so getting over but never quite comfortable. Thats the way it goes some days I guess.

Dooly, decided to go back to burger fuel after the ride as that is what they normally do so thought as it is their organised ride, to go with the plan and support the Franchise owner. Andrew seems a nice guy who just wants to get out and have some fun on his Duc when he gets some time out. We just chilled out for a while, cold drinks on the house and then brough BF for tea.

** Just reading about the motorcyclist deaths in the Dom and having also looked at the threads posted on here, condolances to the families. **

Probably wont be riding this coming weekend as have a Japanese student staying with me from today iuntil sometime next Sunday.

Bad luck with your boy mate, but he'll be fine, young uns bounce back quick.

Know what you mean about the ride back, was a bit up and down eh?
Bacon tends to make me lose my stride a bit, and lots more traffic, but somedays you're on, some not. At least we got out.

Andrew seems a good bloke, keen and friendly.
Got a job out of him, he's giving me his Duc for a week to do belts, servicing, and a few other bits and pieces, so thats all good.

Prob only do the Classic ride from BP Clive on Sat as doing the Taupo trackday on Friday.

Oh. Your boy wasn't hungry for a free (dad pays) burger which normally isn't a good sign is it. But you know, these surgeries are common place. Surgeons perform these more than we do oil changes. So you can rest assured that your son will be just fine.

Still, I know what it's like sitting around at the hospital... bloody place is full of sick people dagnamital. However, I also know what it's like to be in hospital pre and post surgery without having someone there with me, and so am more than sure that your waiting room sufferage is for a good cause.

As for the Taupo fatality... wtf can anyone really say about such things? These random unpredictable accidents totally bum me out, almost as though I know the victims personally... and I immediately put myself in their place. Oil on road + corner + motorcycle = bad things. All I can do is hope that the family of the lost biker is strong enough to get through what will be hard times for them.

So, after all that, I won't complain that my bike failed to even have ignition lights this morning :( ... either the battery was flat (why? might be some dodgy parklight shanangans) or yesterdays after-ride wash got in somewhere where it shouldn't have. So, it's on charge... time will tell.

As for the oil on the tyres of the bike that was pushed through the oil, a good spin up in the shingle and dirt off the side of the road will clean the tread, and the working area of the tyre.

After a journey like mentioned in the paper below, what bad, bad, luck.:eek5:

Lead: Biker dies in freak oil spill

23.02.2009
Roger Moroney
One of motorcycling's true characters, Napier's Jeremy "Kanga" Crate, 45, died last night after his motorcycle crashed in a freak oil spill on SH5 near Rangataiki.

Mr Crate died after his BMW motorcycle hit oil which spilled from a container, which had fallen from a vehicle that police were today trying to trace.

Two other riders also fell after striking the oil, with one being airlifted to Rotorua Hospital with serious internal injuries.

Mr Crate was one of three motorcyclists among the six people killed on the country's roads at the weekend - bringing the road toll for the year to 60.

A skilled engineer and a dedicated motorcyclist, he and partner Julie Ashton had only recently returned home after an epic 160,000km motorcycle journey all over the world.
"All that riding and all he did ... and for this to happen," close friend Wayne Moult said.

He said Mr Crate had gone to Paeroa for the annual street races with three mates, and he spotted him up there.

"He was having a conversation with Tony Rees (a former national superbike champion) so I just patted him on the shoulder as I went by. Then I get to work this morning and heard the news. It's just terrible."

Another long-time friend, Craig Guy, said everyone knew Mr Crate as "Kanga".

"He came in only last week and we were having smoko. He wandered in and made himself a brew and sat down for a chat. He is going to be so sadly missed. He was a great guy and a real character ... this has stunned everyone."

Like a truck in the slow lane going slow. Like last night. Or oil, or wood or……. but it is just part of life for us to push it some times. We were made to have adrenalin rushes from time to time and we need somthin in life to provide that. Bikes do it. With out it we are only half of what we should be.

Age and 25 years of motor racing have blunted my desire for speeding excessively on the open road....jeez I ride a BMW tourer, that should say something !
