I happen to have a couple of Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa's in my shed. Im aware that that they have considerable amount of grip. At what stage of wear would these be deemed to be unsafe to use. They would only be used in the dry.

Send Bill, (Sinfill) a PM, I think he's used them quite a bit on trackdays and knows how they work or dont.
Or you can wait till Saturday as the garage we're sharing he's with us.

Thought i might try them now. I found a shed full of them so i might give them a whirl. A gentil whirl that is.

I have checked on the link here http://pacclub.co.nz/press/53/ and the date for racing is “
Round 3 5th April 2009 Track 1 Taupo

I have heard talk referring to Saturday. But it is Sunday. The last round of the summer series. SP holds the lead for the 150 street stock to date. He has a good chance of taking it if he has a good day. That will complete the challenges we set 15 months ago as a team. I will post a round up and summary after the event. At this stage we hope to run the bike in the winter with Garry, SPs current mentor, as the rider. Then take a break. So bring on Sunday. Lets hope the little bike can do it once more.

Again a reminder that FiveStar have helped a great deal in this challenge and worked along side us to keep the parts up to the bike and helping with gear. A huge thank you to Wasp27. With out you we would have fallen apart mid winter. Seems a long time ago now mate. Thanks for the chance to finish the dream. The rest will follow after the last day of racing. Fingers crossed. I feel the nerves kicking in as we get the bike and van sorted. Whooo whooooo bring it on.

It is the preparing and the nerves that go with it.

A good day, got 6 sessions in.
Lots of race bikes.

3 groups, Rob & I were in the middle one.
Rob was cruising. Followed him around a bit getting the learn.
The pace seemed a lot quicker than the MotoTT day, and our group was fairly evenly matched for pace.

A few bins, mainly in our group which started the day with 42 in it!!!
All due to cold tyres on the first and second lap and going too fast. I dunno why guys give it heaps like that in the first lap. Rob and I took it easy for the first few and had hotshots flying past, then we'd get up to speed and pass them back.

2 new R1s there including the one from last week with all the bling. Tony Rees? was riding that for the owner and was carving the fast group up with ease, it was amazing to watch, and its got a weird sound to it, kinda a cross between a triple and a V4, totally does'nt sound like an inline 4.

Brake prob all sorted on the new bike, but did run out of braking once in the final session on pit straight, got the wobble and slide but managed to pull up right on the edge of the tarmac ok, then get going again.

Passed a Hayabusa on the back straight drag race........thought those Zookis were meant to be fast...:buggerd::lol::lol::lol:

Track was in good nick despite all the talk about the patches, got a few slides but mostly early, and on the same corner, think its turn 4?

A good day overall, but any day at the track is eh........

Might go for a ride today, maybe Kahuranaki/Patangata?
Anyone want to?

Just fixing a water leak first which I noticed dripping on the trailer when I got home.
Taken the fairings off and found all the hoses very loose. Dunno whether they should of been checked on its first service which had just been done when I got it. I imagine so.
Not too mention the wire off the oil pressure switch not being on, which I discovered. Not sending a good message to the ECU....hmm.

Well Dooly said he will pick me up just before 6.00am. I thought bugger it he can wait so i set the alarm for 5.45am. After loading up we were off and off to Bp Bayview for gas and a Latte. Good trip up the main drag and it was very icey on the side of the raod heading on to the plains.
Trackday was another sell out and there were a lot of racers for the next days racing.
I had it in my own mind that i was going to take it easy until later in the day. After reading KB all week and the talk about the slippery track. It was getting into my head. So away we went only to find bikes going down within the first couple of laps and only in the morning sessions. Something to said about cold tyres, cold track. Afternoon session were good all round and after a few adjustments on the bike, i found that it was going really well. As usally the pace was getting up there in the arvo. What a great day. Kiwitrack days know how to put on a good day. And they had 7 sessions for the fast/med group. Although we only did 6. That was enough as i had clocked 150kms and had gone on to reserve. Good day i reckon for for a couple of slow and old fellas.

We packed the van for the last time as the Doohan Racing team as it stands now. Patrick hitched a ride to the track and got there before us. Things were slow in our house as I had goats to tend to and cows to check. Mary Mooo had food and muffins to make. We hit the road around 6.45. The old van has lasted to the end . She has clocked up 411000km now but is still going strong. Just another thing to worry about. Bike out and the pit area was set-up. We checked the bike over and adjusted the chain and fueled the bike for a warm up lap and qualifying. Rider briefing made a big deal about the sand on the track and how dangerous it was going to be for the riders. We sent Patrick out on the bike on the sighting laps with a degree of trepidation. He was fine and came in and said the sand was no big deal.

We sat around and waited for the qualifying laps. Out he went and we had great expectations as he came around the first time. Thumbs up from the bike but we noted a missfire as he disappeared down the pit straight. To our horror it was worse as he came around again and he gave us the hand shake that indicated things were not good. We watched him disappear around the track and out of sight. I noted he had his hand raised and pulled in to pit lane. The bike had been running so well for the last few race days and we ran it on Saturday and it was on song. But not today. We splashed more fuel in to the bike incase we had miscalculated and sent Patrick out again. This left him one lap to qualify in but the bike was still running badly. He came in and we all resigned ourselves to the fact that we had a problem.

We didn’t look at the qualifying time but started work on the bike. Pulling the spark plug told us we had a fouled plug. This could be due to all sorts of things so we replaced it and checked the fuel. Decided this would fix the problem and sat back to watch some of the other racing. And good racing it was too. The call went up for lunch and we had not gone out on the track yet. Due to an accident we were now 1 and a half hours behind schedule. We lined up for the start of the first race and had hoped the bike was back on song. Patrick ran around the track and took his place at the front of the street stocks. He qualified first. With only one lap to speak of we were amazed. But we will take it thanks. The flags dropped and Patrick had one of the best starts for the whole of the last 15 months. He lead the 250 out and around the first corner. We watched and started to count down the laps. The RG sounded terrible as he passed us on pit straight but Patrick was riding around the short comings of the bike and started to play with the clubmen’s bike. He had left his own field well behind and was having a ball passing the bigger bikes in the corners and being, in turn, passed down the back and front straight. Patrick won the race easily and had a great time out on the track with the bigger bikes.

We pulled the plug to find the bike was running seriously lean. It sounded lean to the point of not enough fuel to feed it up at the top end. Out came the carb and we pulled it to bits. It was as clean as, in that carb so it was not fouled or dirty in the jets that we could see. Put it all back together and decided we could not do anything else. Where to from here? No time or options to do much so we sat it out. Refueled the bike from the info we have from previous race days. The first call went up for Street stocks and Clubmens as they were being run together. We did a last minute panic and poured more fuel in to the bike incase she was too rich and we could run out in the last race of the meeting. Had a long delay on the dummy grid as bikes from the previous race were picked up from out on the track. Seemed to be a few bikes spread around. Finally they headed off but the RG was running badly. As they gathered on the grid I had a feeling of disappointment. We had this bike running so well and to end on this note was hard to stomach. But that’s motor sport Aye? The flag dropped and Patrick was eaten up by the field of riders around him. The clubmans had cleared off to a clean start. By turn 5 Patrick had taken the lead of the Street stock bikes and was after the clubmans. Again we counted down the laps and Patrick did his best on a bike that was running as badly now as it was in the middle of the winter season. Patrick ran a great race on a bike that was not up to the challenge. Well done Son.

So we stayed for the prize giving. We knew Patrick had won the championship for the season as he had won every race in the summer season for his class. It was nice to see him receive the trophy he so rightly worked hard for and won.
However there was a really nice twist to the prize giving. A memorial trophy was presented to Patrick as the winner of the street stock class. The trophy is to honor Tony Burrell. Tony Burrell took his place at the back of the grid in the sixth Onekawa grand prix on a little blue Suzuki AC50 that had been modified to compete in the Ultra Light TT class. Bikes up to 125cc. Tony took out that race and won the title for this event. Tony suffered from a crippling Muscular disease. He never let this slow him down but he sadly drowned in a yacht accident some time later. So it is that this trophy has been gifted to the Street stock class in memory of Tony and what street stocks are all about. I think it is fitting that Patrick holds this trophy for a year as recognition of his achievements in the last 15 months.

Well done Patrick In 15 months you have won the Vic club winter series. You have won the Pacific club summer series. You have come second in both the 2008 & 2009 Taupo Spectacular events and to finish off you now hold the Tony Burrell Memorial.

Thank you for putting so much in to this little team.

To FiveStar… So many thanks for your on going support and having faith in this little team. Your support has been noted and talked about and appreciated. You guys rock and thanks for being part of this fantastic ride.

Mr W Smith… With out you this would not have happened. Thank you mate. Thank you very much. So much of the success goes to you and your ability to keep this bike going strong. Well done for putting up with me for so long.

Gary Pywell for being Patrick’s mentor and our spanner man. You put in long hours to be at the track and keep Patrick focused. For your time on the spanners and great support around the pit. You too rock.

John and Janet and ISG signs. For all the art work on the bike helmet and pit board. Also for your regular support in the pits and interest on and off the track. Thanks heaps

Martin Doohan for all the great timekeeping and math for working out the fuel, oil and parts needed to keep us on track. You stayed focused and allowed the rest of us to keep things ticking along. You have put a lot more in to this team than you have been credited with. Well done.

And to Mary and Steve Doohan for providing a platform for all this to happen on.
And to all our supporters and friends that came to the track and helped out in everyway friends do. Thanks heaps.

What a great ride it has been.

I'm sitting here struggling to find the words to describe the feat that you as a family have achieved over the last 18 months......from those initial thoughts that were thrown around that eventually became reality and indeed the determination to carry on and overcome the problems that seemed never ending at the start of this campaign. To Steve and Mary....your faith in all things has been an inspiration to me and in spite of your endless praise of things that came easy to me at the end of the day I know the learn was in fact mine to receive and for that alone I will be forever grateful. Now is a good time for you and the family to relax and enjoy the fruits......you certainly deserve all the accolades that come your way:first: To you Paddy...your a young man with an extraordinary talent that hopefully with a lucky break will go a long way in motorsport...I wish you all the luck in the world. Dont forget to occasionally glance over your shoulder...:msn-wink:

Ive taken a hit in the bank account been spending up on new bits for the bike and 2 new helmets (an AGV and a shoei). Luckily the MRS paid for the tickets, shes got the next few years sorted for Birthday pressies so im happy lol.

Just been cacting up on this thread and has proven to be a real crack up

Hey v8s&2wheels, we sometimes may ride a bit spirited but always look after the younger riders, whether they be on small bikes or not. There is always some of us ready to tail behind the less experienced and then we all catch up at points of interest. Come for a ride with us sometime and then make you own mind up. Last long ride we went on (Dooly will remember the one around lake Taupo ) was around 500k and we had one guy on a 150 and Donna on her 250 and everyone (Dooly excepted of course - fuk I crak me up) was fine!

Ok guys, enough of the bullchit, where and when is the ride this weekend!!!!!

... the older ones of us are still young at heart ...
Ohhhh, we luffs you long time...

Dont mind riding with older guys. But trying to get more of a young thing going on. Just more relative people to talk to etc. Not bagging the older guys, would happily ride with them. But ya must know where im coming from.
We (mostly) survived being young, with or without help. Help (if you want it) is easier.

Most of us are old cunts if you call over 40 old.
But we dont ride like old cunts if you know what I mean..........
Its just the way it seems to have panned out for some reason in our group.

But age is irrelevant I reckon when we're on our bikes.
Come for a ride with us, we're nearly all on sports bikes and ride as such.Over 40? Well - yeah...;)

Totally law abiding, 100 kph all the time.
Maybe 105 with a tail wind.:wacko:Of course. Was that the new k's or the old?

You should always buy a NEW helmet, and make sure it fits properly before you buy it. You only get one haed, and presumably you keep your brains there, so you'd best be looking after it!

Its all good can get different cheek pads i rang fivestar on my lunch break. Theyve got a medium cheek set coming for me next week to try in my helmet.

I stuffed tissues into the cheekpads to see what itll be like when its tighter, and so long as the cheek pads are a good fit the helmet in general will be a perfect fit for me. No movement and nice and comfy.

Good brisk ride today.
Met some new folk, all good.

3 out of 4 days on the bikes, can't get much better than that, and on the fourth I rode my dirt bike!!!:wari: (not for long as it fucked out, lack of use I guess)

Won't be riding next weekend, and possibly the following.:crybaby::bye:

Chap binned his duke down middle Rd yesterday arvo after leaving the Patangata
Dude I know on his Shadow tended him as they waited for the paras to turn up
He was apparantly riding in a group of 3 and he was last !
Concused and that so got off lightly

Also this afternoon/midday a mate of mine droped his shadow 1300, got flowen to hospital with suspected neck and back. He is ok by the looks of it but had me real worryed for a few hours.

For what its worth he was the one that picked my sorry arse up off the side of the road last year when i fucked the 250.

So over all not a good weekend for bikes....

If you thought the ride there was brisk then im not sure of the word to use for the ride home.

MSTRS and the TartyOne have returned safe from our travels. Few bacon about. One followed her ladyship from Benneydale to Whakamaru (about 50kms). Maybe he thought that she would lead him to me? Haha. Every one I saw had a client or was rushing to meet one. Corner of HW30 and Kopaki Rd to Taupo is 106kms...59 mins is behaving, isn't it?

Went for blast up to Gisy today via Tinoroto and back main coastal Hwy
Fabulous weather and real neat twisties on the Tinoroto Rd
Bits of unmarked new seal in parts of this rd but not to bad all the same :scooter:
Not a wiff of hwy patrol to be seen
Few bikers out and about with groups heading down from the East Cape
This is a good run - 488ks for me so you can take 50 off that for city folk
Vehicles were considerate and that includes trucks :gob:

Hillclimb tomorrow? Might be my reading skills (or lack there-of) but I don't know about any hillclimb event... I've heard it bandied about a bit, but it sounded more like a catch phraze to me. What, Who, Where, How Much?
