C'mon man, riding ya bike out to feilding is hardly a ride mate!
I was thinking maybe I could get to and leave Palmy by 10am, no need to be too hardcore about it but i'm giving you a heads up right now that if it starts raining i'm gone, after the scare I got yesterday on the Napier-Taupo road i'm not that keen to repeat, I need to sort things on my bike a bit I think, something we could have a natter about maybe.
I think I might ring Meanie tonight to see what's up not to mention check their route home on the ride thread.

If I don't end up doing the manfield thing - would be nice to watch some bike racing after going to the V8's on Saturday. For some reason I prefer the bikes...
What time you leaving Danniverke? I can check in here in the AM and let you know for sure what I'm up to.

Nice looking boots, should have kept the bandit, then money would be no problem.:doh:Agree with the waterproof claims made by manufacturers',my boots whilst cheap($150 or) so seem to be ok,mind you that's in mild squalls not full on rain, won't last as long but value for $$$ seem ok,even wear them to work on saturday morning and are comfy, good support, keep the smell in lol.
The cheapest part of the mini ride is the entry fee and accomodation, the actual part of gear required(top boxs),servicing etc required to do the trip is the expense, but a bloody good ride i'll bet.

Yeah, they're not cheap these Rusty rides, but are great fun. Add in ferry tickets, 5-6,000km worth of fuel, accomodation & tucker, servicing & tyres and you're generally looking at around the 2 grand+ mark! Generally only the Southern X is on this scale and it's only every 2nd year but the Mini's Return is something a bit special and would be a shame to miss out - really looking forward to it. GC in October & Southern X next year too...

Nattered for a bit then headed home. Overcast most of the day and a small shower but that was about it. Good time to test out the Dryrider kit I got last weekend. Find it slides around a bit on the seat.

fairing off, tank off, airbox off, starter motor out, generator out
sounds easy
it wasnt
i now have a gaping hole in the top of the tranny as i also took the starter/generator drive bay off the top of the trans as well. the generator is gear driven off the trans and this gearset is also turned over by the starter. the generator drive has a cog with a bush around it so the 'shock' of the starter doesnt root the generator (by the looks). it's this bush that appears to be rooted
will take it to PTs tomorrow and get a 2nd opinion, it may not be THE problem but it certainly looks farked
pic 1 shows it still in the generator drive
pic 3 shows it taken out, you can see the surface of the bush is a mess
tis good to pull your bike apart every now and then

no, sounds like you are looking at it right....that whole thing drives the generator via that small cog but i think it may be failing to drive it cos the bush is worn out
im probably not explaining it very well
i believe the bush itself is simply to absorb the shock of startup

29th February 2008, 22:47
Just adding... you will probably find it has been on its way out for ages. Not terribly schooled on rf900 alternator but there should be a couple or 3 diodes and 1 or 2 failing could still give you enough power to charge the battery if ridden long enough without drawing too much power. Basically its job is to produce too much power to run the bike and the remainder charges the battery so being as it doesnt take a shitload of power to run the bike it wouldnt take too much to have some in reserve for battery charging. Have you found on short trips before it can be a little hard to start?
Like I say, more than happy to be proved wrong if it saves you some $$ and gets you back on the road.

Stuffed about for a couple of hours deciding whether or not to take the bike out or not, no insurance, no full leathers, 3 hrs late, tired etc. Decided not too. Watched Gary clean up in the S's and ended up popping over the track. Nearly binned it 3 times on gravel and cats eye's so decided to put it away for the day. the drive parts should be here in about a week - probably about $150 including fitting
BUT
the drive also needs the bearing replaced - another $100 including fitting but it's ex-japan so at least 2 weeks
$250 all-up to get it sorted is ok but having to wait possibly 3 weeks is a bit of an arse
I will now dedicate myself to the mighty VFR's cause

Went for a ride with the Napier crew on Saturday, phew that was a pretty fast paced ride I have to say, R-Dog and a young fulla who's handle i'm not sure of rode a pretty mean pace but they were doing it easy, paid particular attention to R-Dog on a section when we were on the return trip when I got the chance to get near them (only coz they would get caught up behind the odd car) and it looked to me like he was just phoning it in!:gob:
But my point is we did the road to Wairoa and R-Dog was videoing it but it kept turning off on him so I don't think he got too much footage which is a shame.
I think you should set aside a day (maybe Easter weekend?) go up there and video on that road coz it's absolutely premium as i'm sure you're probably aware. Even if you guys don't I might do it that weekend if it's fine and go all the way to Gisborne as i've never been there.

As I said i'll be aiming to do it again soon, might even try to sort it out as a locally based ride (Manawatu) either on Easter weekend or a random weekend might be better because of the heavier traffic on the long weekend.

The young fulla is 'Speights'bud' Gixxer for eva's son riding G4E's 750.
He races bikes, and with Rob and the way his bike is set up now and his track day experience, those 2 sure can set a cracking pace.
Excellent road, and the cafe we go to at the end a few km from Wairoa is superb.

You just let us know when you are thinkig of coming thru. We can do a ride thru to Gisbourne. You pretty much saw all the tight and twisty stuff then the road opens up and its just great. The down fall of riding that road thru the week is the amount of Logging trucks. Although the turn off before the Mohaka viaduct. So the weekends and holidays are the best.

The Blue Bandito is about 20km South of Palmy (at the mo, his house is for sale) so it makes sense just to keep on heading thataways...
Taking it real easy today, only about 300km. We'll leave the big days for the ride itself - 1st day nearly 1,000km.

bloody spectacular day for a ride....stinking hot in palmy
started with the main weeds, there was a lot of clover behind the bushes in the front garden and quite a lot across trhe back fence...after pulling all that out, i trimmed a few bushes, there was a couple of coprosmas that were getting away on me and the pandorea always runs rampant
did the rounds with the wheelbarrow ('05 Bunnings 30lt) picking up all the leftovers, then i could finally unleash the mighty 31.5cc 2-stroke line trimmer
was running low on gas so i knew it had to be a relatively quick run (pity i didnt have dogs cam on board, this was some fiendish trimming). ripped thru the back fence in brutal fashion, then did the easy stuff along the concrete edges. finally i decided it was time to tackle the garden edges. these have been neglected for a week or two so were in bad shape, i attacked with tight lines and a 'no mercy' attitude...i knew this would require some clean-up afterwards but it was worth it to get rid of those especially in-grown weeds. dust and garden crap was flying in all directions but the end result was top notch
finished it off with a comprehensive mow that just set it off beautifully, the sun was ripping in at this point but i knew this would make or break the final result and mrs yod had stashed some radlers in the freezer ready for me when finished

The indicator has punched a hole in the fairing, engine case scored, gear lever, clutch bent, footpegs scraped, minor but really gutting. Rabbit OK, it got a pillion ride down Sarah's jacket and is in garage now. I wonder if it has a credit card.

Darn right on the critters. Hit a magpie just up the road on friday night too. Went past this morning and saw it dead. The rabbit was sprinting along the side of the road and with typical rabbit timing did a hard right and straight under the fairing, hence it's survival. It seems ok this morning and Sarah will give it the once over today. It's lucky it was hit by a bike with a vet on the back eh!

Hmmm, no good Alister and Sarah. Glad you're all ok.
Cheers Bonez. The Daytona is at the shop now getting assessed. It'll be an insurance job, I hate to think what those fairings cost.
nice vid. been a while since I been up that way. Makes me keen now.

Well I am a little bit happier at the moment...nobras (mike) has kindly lent me his GSX250 while I am bikeless. Must say its rather nice to ride.
So I am not grumpy anymore  as I was getting that way.
Still waiting for insurance company to make a decision on my bike, they are waiting for prices, but looks like they will write it off.

Fuck, Fuck, Fuck. Coming home from a great ride with Cowboyz and Sarah as pillion, hit a rabbit 2 kms from home. Turned around to check on it, very dark, misjudged the camber and dropped the bike. The indicator has punched a hole in the fairing, engine case scored, gear lever, clutch bent, footpegs scraped, minor but really gutting. Rabbit OK, it got a pillion ride down Sarah's jacket and is in garage now. I wonder if it has a credit card.
Bugger Al! Rabbit stew I reckon. Perhaps I better not say how much fun we're having (check the blog).
The South Island still rocks, only had about an hours rain so far and the sun is fair blazing down here in Invercargill. The ride proper starts tomorrow - yeehah!

Would be fantastic to have another kwaka in the bunch but alas. no.

Have to see how the crazy weeks fall into themselves. Had a blast the other night down to martinborugh and back. Have to wait till my new brake pads get here too cause the 9 isnt doing a really good job at stopping right now.

I just had a great idea for a new seat cover... I think you got the main ingredient in the garage :devil2:
Only fault may be the size of ya rabbit... two options is suppose
1. Fatten it up
2. Go for another ride and see what happens

Have decided not to buy another 250 as will be on my full licence in 4 months, doing my restricted next month, then full in 3 months.
Probably look at a GSX750F but will just wait and see, no rush.
Getting lots of suggestions from Pauly  which is great as he is in the know.

Cheap leather jackets going at PT's, they got a $450 dollar rack, even had 2 alpine stars jackets on there when I saw it but I met a guy at the Dannevirke BP and noticed he had bought one of them.

Yea saw them today bloody tempting eh! ,had the sales guy all over me when i walked in with my raggedy jacket lol .guy was saying they were the last years models or something ,looks the same as the 08 jackets just ha;f the price and a different colour scheme...
Update...
So went to the local (to take advantage of the 30% off sale) and got talked into Picking up one of these beasts and officially lost my leather jacket virginity  ...cost a pretty penny but it really feels like a second skin, absolutely rapt with it . :niceone: its a Teknic Speedstar jacket pretty high up in their range so i hope it will last me a fair while (as long as i dont decide to go bush again :oi-grr:) does feel a lil hunch back with the small hump on the back but apparently... it makes you more aero-dynamic lol which i jumpt at as the katana doesn't exactly strive in this area so anything to improve this was greatly recieved!
Now im just tossing up the idea of getting leather pants ....ah i duno if its too extreme or not
