Yup. thought i'd take a punt on a sheep skin, plenty of people seem to think they are good. May give some thought to a re-shape before next winter which reminds me I need to talk to you about that, see you tonight.

I'm thinking of heading out east tomorrow (as usual, better weather that way), probably aim to be back in town around 3 ish since the weather may be crapping out and I have a few things to do

thinking of starting at ashhurst around 9 and toodling to aokautere, pahiatua, alfredton, masterton, castlepoint and then back....not sure which way yet

this isn't definite but if you're interested, sing out and we'll see how we go

It had to happen....I just couldnt stay at home...so with the lawns done Phoebe and I decided its ride time,of to Ashurst to fuel up..the Pohangina valley east road was dry and fast making for a great trip to Ashurst, then up over the saddle road as it had been a while felt like a new road, but didnt take too long to find the rythm making for an enjoyable trip to woodville stopping at boots and braces for a coke with Murry....

we then headed through the Manawatu gorge which had little traffic,so nice to get a good run through there and decided lets do that again so of to go up over the track had a good run too the top and then Oh f...K!!! having to over shoot the right hander at the top and run of in the gravel, totally my fault...ok lesson learnt and carry on down the other side and into Balance and back out through the gorge again through Ashurst to Colyton and Bunnythorpe back to Ashurst fuel stop and then back out the valley east road too home

notice some bikes at the waterford cafe one looked like a dodgey looking RF could that be yod?? thinking of turning around to go see but throught better of it as the tyers were hot and the fun stuff was about to begin hehehe great trip home and great days ride

sounds like a good bit of fun there bazza .. took truck to palmy & got a tinted visor .. looks black from outside but when looking inside out suprisingly light .. can not wait to try it out ..

then had to wait for Al to get organised (as per normal) & did the social talking thing at Cuba where Bonez went flying past spied the daytona & came & joined us .. all good

so instead of riding bikes rode two wild beasties that are grazing next door ..

Sarge and I got out for a good sojourn today. Met up at Pahiatua this morning and then shot through to Alfredton and then route 52 to Masterton. Encountered a herd of cows who were being a bit difficult as far as letting us past was concerned but we got through eventually. A few others must have had theirs out in the last week or so as there was a fair bit of shit (literally) on the road but no real problems. Paused at Alfredton and saw a brand-spanking red Sprint ST go past:drool: nice, very nice.....
Had a nosey round the Honda dealer in Masterton at their various wares, then split up - Sarge headed south and over the takas and paekak to get to Otaki and the prospect of a new woolley seat, I flagged Castlepoint in favour of doing route 52 all the way to Weber and then on to Dannevirke.

I've been through the southern end of route 52 several times, but only from the Pa Valley Rd intersection. I've done (most of) the northern end once from Pongaroa to Weber with a certain green-man and a certain bearded honda rider on a brutally windy day. I had never done the middle section.

I have now. What a dogs breakfast that road is! Superb. Had been told by the bearded one and others that there are "a few areas where the road has dropped away". A few? I had to stop and take photos. Full of holes, falling apart and you're not quite sure if you're going to end up where you expect....hehe...it's not that bad really, just needs a bit of a tidy up. It is a great ride tho, really enjoyed it which leads me to the next part of the story.

I got to do a fair chunk of it twice. I stopped at a magnificent section that was a trainwreck as far as road surface goes, (see photos), I got a few snaps, had a short stroll to stretch out a bit, saw an Equine Dentist go past, then decided to carry on - this was about 20km south of Pongaroa at a guess. Off I went, toodle-oodle-oo....road getting better, bike feels good, good rhythm....before long I'm in Pongaroa, didnt bother to stop cos it wasn't that long since the last one so headed straight through and on to Weber, road opening up a bit now, stretching the RF's legs now, come over a rise and there goes that red Sprint ST again!:drool: ahwell...one day....ripping into the road now, got some pace on, some great sweepers and then finally I shoot through the Wimbledon turn off and up the short hill to Weber. Better stop and get a photo or two and stretch the legs again so I pull over.

DOH! back pocket of the pack is still open, camera is gone-burger....

the expletives were flying at lightspeed...I wont go further than that:mad::mad::mad:

I had to go back and look, I just had to, I was guessing it had either ended up in the middle of the road where someone would spot it and scoop it up (there was a bit of traffic around), or ended up off the road where no-one (including me) would ever find it...

Back through the turn off all the way back through Pongaroa, going an average pace, scanning the road in all the areas where the road was a bit bumpy, then I'm ripping down a big smooth straight not really looking and as I hit a little bridge I just glanced to the right and there it was, about 6 inches off the road just sitting in a patch of very short grass...

it has taking a wallop on one corner and the door for the battery and memory card is a bit outta whack but it still goes!!

laughed all the way to Dannevirke for a pie and a Wild Bean coffee then cruised home down the main road

nice

good score..... I am watching a guy learn how to ride a speedway bike on sky and I have a sudden urge to get on a moto x bike and get all muddy lolNever done the MX thing, but seriously contemplating getting a small capacity trail bike for extended jaunts off the main roads.

And the added bonus is it never needs the oil changing cause its getting replaced every 3000ks anyway.Fresh oil and filter at 5000kms though. Must get around to checking the tappet clearances. Haven't been checked for around 13,000kms. Mind you as they say a rattly tappet is a happy tappet.

there is something about having an endless destination cos you can go anywhere almost... Also getting all out of shape in mid air, or having the rear go into power slides itching you to give it more throttle to keep it there and not getting high sided is great...

Oh and grass and dirt ain't as hard as the road lol

Yes i confess it was mine When i had my puncture i used a tyre pando which in turn stuffed the sensor thingee that sends a signal to the computer to tell me what the air pressure is in the tyre
When they put in a new one they didnt have the info to be able to programme it to send to my bike computer
They rang me yesterday to tell me they had the info to sort it out and i had to have my ute today at work so what better way to break in me brand new trailor than give the Concours a ride into town

This wont be a race (Doug is not a quick rider) and there will be stops along the way.

Possible route- Saddle Rd, Top Grass, Ormondville, Waipuk, inland at Waipawa, Patangata, Elsthorpe or alternatively Middle Rd, Havelock North then onto Hastings. Subject to change.

If we see any bikes at the Ashhust Mobil, will try to convince Doug to go the main rd from Palmy to Ashhurst, we'll just bowl on through and those there can catch us up, which will be easy enough. We wont be in a hurry.

If we see any bikes at the Ashhust Mobil, will try to convince Doug to go the main rd from Palmy to Ashhurst, we'll just bowl on through and those there can catch us up, which will be easy enough. We wont be in a hurry.

Be there or be square...........................

Well Doug and I proceeded as planned and who should we spot on the side of the road but Lance and the Kermitmobile. Nice of him to see us on our way ah.
(Long story (I promised not to tell) but, Ms Cowboyz was on the other side in the family cage)

Any way off to Hastings via the above route, dropped the steam engine off which as it turns out will be powering a boat. Took a snap of one of the chaps toys. Bike spotters will know what it is no dought. Nice to meet another bloke with so many "projects".

Basicly the reverse route back but ran into a thunderstorm on the way home. Fork, sheet and ball lightening with raindrops as big as marbles. Bonez wasn't prepered for this so got drendged from the waist down. Doug suggested we stop and have a cuppa at the Ormondville station, to which I replied F##$k no! not with the lightening only a mile or so away. Got onto Top Grass Rd and things had cleared up and the jeans where drying out nicely so we stopped at the school just before the Saddle Rd on the Woodville side for a bit then soldiered on home. Gerble and the wee Pantah never missed a beat.

Scored a few old bike mags from dad which I have a gander then pass on too.

Yeah, bloody corregations! I think the set up is too stiff now but I took some advice from a chap in the wangas motorcycle club who has a bike like mine and it's made some pretty reasonable improvements in general but down hill corregations have taken a backward step me thinks, it's a piss awful bike going down hill anyway and this setting has'nt done that any favors when it's asked to done anything but smooth tarmac.

Out a 5l gas can in your pack and just keep going till she coems to a halt.. 5l should be enough to get you to another fuel spot... That way you will know exactly what your milage is..

That sounds like fun I must do that one day.ride with my mates and see who can go the furthest without running out.be good fun to see how uneconomical my bike is lol. I think I can only get 200 to the tank never too sure.I know I can get 57 km after the fuel light comes on but not sure how much is left in the tank at the time.never realy took much notice how much gas I put in either bout 25 of 98 useualy fills me up from 50 km into fuel light

I only want to do it so I can get a definate figure. That way, I should never run out of gass (fingers crossed) Will fill up to the brim then ride... When I get to the fuel light then I will put the gas can in the pack and then it is all on lol

why not fill the tank. reset the odo. go for a ride. then next fill take notice of how far you have been and how many litres it took to fill up. Then you dont have to run out of gas. Then you can work out how big your tank is and how far it will go.

aaahh good thinking grasshopper but, there would be nothing worse than doing your calculations and being a little out.. Even a 2km walk to the gas station is nothing but a pain in the ass IMO. This is the the most accurate way give or take due to how happy the throttle hand has been on rides..

this is all good in theory but in practice its never going to be thesame. To ride "normaly" for a whole trip could me the differnce in traffic and even wind speed would make a diffrence (all be it slight) in fuel consuption.but it would just be good fun to see how far I can get up the country without filling up.

It's well worth working out what ya machine will do in different circumstances especially if you're planning a decent ride and need to plan fuel stops. For eg on my old Bandit I knew that at a reasonable pace 300km was no worries but if I was gouging on her the gauge would start flashing at around the 270km mark. Even better now - I am often riding with my mate who has a Bandit and I know that the Concours can go further so if we plan stops at 300km it's no worries for me.

Most I ever put in the Bandit's 20L tank was 19.8L and I'd had to coast down a hill as she was cutting out coming over the top. Good thing I knew there was a gas staion at the bottom...

not surprised....tempting....and very nice in black, the ANZA one is good buying: an '07 with 10k on the clock for $5-6k below new retail (maybe even less?)....pretty good I reckon

but then everytime I look in ANZA I also see that blue '04 Firestorm for $10k as well.....

Buy it YOD, you know you want to, do it, do it now!!! Black would be damn hot...

Looking out the window it looke a little over cast and I can't tell what it is going to do. I am in two minds about tonight now,

do I ride and stay up late removing the rear shock knowing I have tomorrow night aswell.

Or, do I remove the shock now and take the measurements needed and that way it is done...

hhhmmm I think mrs V8 wanted to go riding tonight as she was the one that asked if we were going....
