Cheers! Sounds like a good day. Just checked your pics - some nice looking machinary out there by the looks! Hmmm, and two Tigers I believe as well. How did they look on the move? Just got back from ANZA with Chanceyy where we checked out their blue demo. It wasn't on the road just yet, but I'll be testing it very soon! Got some gloves on special, Sandra demonstating some particulary good colour coordination in Daytona Gold!
The blue beast is finished looks MINT! Just have to get up there and get it back now. Prob next weekend!

Definitely keen at this point Sarge, been talking to Lance and sounds like there may be time for a couple of rest stops if we're good lol. Otherwise it's steady as she goes, no problems

Looks like a good day out, that M109 trike looks nice. And a very impressive paintjob on the GSX.
Think I rode past the Yods outside Cafe Cuba as I popped in to work to drop something off, before wandering down to Welly to catch up with a friend. Bit damp on this side of the hills until I hit Otaki. Took the twistiest route south, because I hadn't done it in about 18 years and had plenty of time to spare. Probably happy to leave it at least that long again. :) Just a bit too narrow.
Was going to come back via the Wairarapa, but spent too long nattering in Wgtn and ran out of time. Enjoyed the mild weather until Levin, when the temperature plummeted as the sun went down. Fark!

Glad your mate is ok .. hmm now thats one crap of an area to be making a u turn .. if its on the left heading towards levin I thought there was yellow lines on the side of the road indicating no stopping etc ..
I guess it depends if your mate was insured and the insurance company will go to bat on his behalf

If that's what happened the cops will have to pay all costs, good chance they might say he ( the cop ) didn't pull to the left before he did a U turn then it might be his word Vs the cop. Of course where the impact point on the cop car should tell the story.

I would be having discussions with the officier at hand. Ignore the fact that it is the police. He is liable just like anyone else would be. Keep on at them about it. I hope your mate reported the incident to the local police dept and got a report written. Dont let the officier at fault control any of the paperwork. That is a conflict of interest and dont take no for an answer.

Yep, that's definitely careless use of a motor vehicle as far as the cop was concerned. Failing to clear the area and all that. I'd pick (hope) that the cops do the right thing and put it right.

And i thought i had problems lol but know what ya mean with what ya saying but in saying that i mean does absolutely drowning it in wax work !
Used to do me chains in Enzis compound (had a few large tins of it) Thick as candle wax it was ! Heat it up over a bunson burner till the grease melts (Real low temp to melt) and dunk the chain in hang it over the tin to drip and once it cooled whack it back on the bike ! Had a little bit of splatter but not serious enought to be a danger !
But of course i'm lazy now and a spray can of wax does it for me !

I'll bet you were only waxing one side of the chain :nono:
Here's how I do it.
I cut a 6" long, chain-wide slot in a cardboard box flap. With the bike on a paddock stand, slip the cardboard slot over the rear of the rear sprocket and trim the flap so that it isn't rubbing the tire. Spray the outside of the chain as it passes the slot while spinning the wheel.
Next use the other end of the cardboard flap and stick it behind the chain, below the swing arm and in front of the tire. Again spin the wheel while spraying the inside of the chain from above.
The purpose of the cardboard flap is to prevent over spray contaminating or otherwise dirtying the bike (esp tires). I tuck the cardboard flap in the side of the garage for next time and replace when it gets too floppy or too dirty.
Thanks to BuckBuckNo1 (where is Guy these days?) for providing me with the beer box idea that lead to this method.

Brings to mind a good point ! I have no idea as to what life expectancy is for me chains ! When should ya look at replacing the buggars ?
Had one disintegrate on my sporty once, three pieces grrrr ! Lucky i found me a friendly cocky in the back blocks of ekatahuna who found a few joining links from his mates and spot welded it back together for me lol Number eight wired me home via napier where i grabbed another O ring chain off the 61 (no shops open during xmas period)
Was a bad ride that one lol mrs and i went away for a week mmm chain, then weather packed in going up east cape, we got washed out of the tent, so cut accross to the west and it packed in there too ! spent two nights freezing and thought screw it and did a 5 hour dash home, onle to get a dangerous ticket in the mail ! (some cop in a booze ambo saw an overtake and took offence) Had to plead not guilty to get it dropped to careless !

Grab a link near the back of the rear sprocket and try to pull it off the sprocket. If the chain lifts more than a few mm then either it's stretched or the sprocket is getting worn. In my experience chain life depends almost entirely on how well you look after them. Trail riding is very dirty hence the extreme measures taken to service the chain.

there should be 15-20mm of slack play although some of the dirt/ adventure bikes may have slightly more due to amount of travel in the swingarm, & replacing the sprocket & chains depends on how well you look after them & if the rubber perishes between the o links. Some bikes will get approx 8,000ks while others will get 15,000 fitting & using a scott oiler will increase the durability of your chain

Good to hear those boy racers getting their just deserts. Hope the damage at Manfield wasn't too serious either.
Excellent day out. Speaking of clean bikes, the blue one is now filthy.
Headed off at 1100 in the rain. I was particulary looking forward to some heavy rain to try out my rainsuit and gloves. Had New World bags inside my boots, worked very well.
Unfortunately, the rain stopped just past Wangas so that was that thwarted. Got a few smatterings but nothing like the deluge I'd hoped for.
Anyway, got to Opunake in very good time. Sarah's Daytona WAS looking absolutely MINT. Hot grips, Scottoiler, radiator grills, headlamp protector, Pirelli Rosso's, and immaculate groom!
Great to catch up with Kerry. Decided on a plan for my bike while Sarah was test riding hers.
Going for Scottoiler, radiator grills, 30K service, AND the much touted tuneboy midrange boost. Should add quite a few extra horses
Had an excellent ride home, the blue one is pumping as the Lord intended and Sarah is rapt  Love the grips. Met up with Tony and Jeanine for dinner. Only problem with riding 2 up at night on the Daytona's tho is that the headlights tend to blind any vehicles in front, causing two cases of minor road rage on their parts. Just opened her up tho and left them fuming in our wake with their lights on full. Couldn't explain that the lights were actually dipped.

Lights would be a pain at wof time, especially if a pedantic inspector says beam is to low etc, then explaining with 2 up is fine.If a guy who uses descretion maybe ok.

Good to see you'll be cleaning the bike cause you dirtied it lol.Should have stopped in at mcdonalds crabbed a few cheeseburgers to get Sarah to chuck at the cars.Mind you I can attest to the power of the lights when they are in the mirrors, shit they are good. You forgot heated grips for your one.

Hey Cowboyz what's the golf course like at the moment, will be almost able to jump a few neighbours fences and be there.Casual fees still around $20-25.Cheers.
When was the last time you played golf? 1978? Green fees are around $40.
For that you get a course that has been preped by the best looking greenkeeper this side of somewhere far far away.
hmm quite a busy day Cowboyz & I had ... Think there was only about 4 races we did not have pick ups.. one broken collarbone & one broken hand both off higgens and twice the two bike trailer had three bikes on .. although the 125s fitted alot easier than the big bikes ... reminds me must look up the thread for drew & give him crap since we gave him two rides yesterday
but we had an excellent day racing around the track .. abit it was in 4 wheels though ...
good to hear ya had a good ride, minus the road rage & obviously you missed :Police: when you was doing ya opening the throttle bit

Nope about 5 yrs ago, stayed in a motel in Palmy and got free round think it is still advertised as $20 on their adds.No worries about what the greenkeeper looks like though unless it is a she.Being a greenkeeper explains why they ride kwakas.
Most fees up here are $25-$30casual,except Eltham which was $5 last time played(3yrs ago).

Afternoon all.
Suppose its about time i introduced myself.
Im Matt and im not quite an alcoholic. I used to live in Hamilton but moved down to Feilding so my partner could go to Massey Uni. We both ride, i've got a little Hyosung GV250 which i have out grown (can upgrade in a month or two), and my partner had a CBR250RR until it blew bits out the side of the crankcase.
Im pretty sure i have met some of you briefly before, Warr, TerminalAddict, my partner and myself came down for a ride a while back, and met up with some KB'ers at a pub in Palmerston? I believe someone had a 2 stroker there?
Anyway, I thought it was about time i got out and started going for rides with the KB folk down this way, rather than outings by myself. I used to ride with the Hamilton folk nearly every week until we moved, So its about time i started again.
Whens the next trip ;) ?

Sad I know, looking this far ahead to the next ride but however, long range forecast is looking ok for next weekend, sunday is probably the better option at this point. Anyone have any ideas?
Here's a couple of thoughts:
1. Loop from Manawatu through the usual route to Masterton then over the Taka's etc back up the west coast.
2. Usual route through to Masterton then out Castle Point and back.
Can anyone tell i'm bored!

If the Akatarawa's is nasty tight little narrow road you won't see me on it, did that on the Ace once and once was enough thanks. I can't for the life of me remember the road i'm thinking off (and I can't be arsed going out to the shed to get the map out of the car) but I know it's one of Meanie's favs.... it is a pretty nice stretch of road.

I rode the Akatarawa's last weekend, heading S. It was fun, I'd only been over them once about 18 years ago, think I can wait at least that long again. Was preferable on a bike frankly, bit more room to avoid vehicles coming the other way.
I think the better route is the Paekak hill road - actually a road for most of it I think, not just a goat track.
BTW Go the GV250!! Mine should be moving on to a new home in a couple of months as well.

Cops have been watching it last few months (heard about a couple of tickets coming out of there recently) they dropped the limit to 70 km as there have been a few bad publications in the local rag, about bikes crashing due to treating it as a race track !
Tis really the only good loop ride within reach of here with any sort of windies in it (unless ya head up your ways) doing paekok haywards rimatakas the track then home through shannon !

Akatawara's are an adventure alright. Used to ride them regulary in the 80's. Although there wasn't so much traffic then. A high chance of oncoming traffic these days, with not much margin for error!
Test rode a Tiger today. Very nice bike, extremely comfortable. Poured down but the position meant the rider was reasonably well protected. This one had ABS, but I don't think that's too necessary. Very light and nimble. Great to be so upright, much better view ahead. A slightly taller screen would be good as there was a bit of buffeting and it's not adjustable. Very sexy to look at (I think) and the engine was very nice and responsive. Great triple sound too. Fuel computers and the like which once gotton used too would be very cool to use.

Weather dependant on either the 26th or 27th (which ever shapes up to be the best day) a ride to Castle Point (CP) and then over the Rimutaka's down the the Lower Hutt motorway, over the Paekak hill and back up the west coast.
I think the Rimutaka's might be optional on the day.

Good to know im not the only 250 rider so i wont be left behind
Unfortunately im working both weekend afternoons, so i wont be able to come along to those. Do you have friday night rides still? I remember hearing about that a while back.
Hopefully sometime i'll be able to put names to faces :)

it's all these pansy-arse kwaka riders - one drop of rain and they run for the nearest cafe

Was that the nice blue one at Anza ??:innocent:
Sure was! Went very nicely. Track, Ballance, Gorge, town. Pissing down, but you know what? 110 - 115 felt very good, hugely different to the Daytona which needs at least 130 to 'settle' in
Always thought you were a gentleman of discerning taste Al....:)
Likewise Sels lol
Ummmm might have to give this one a miss Sarge hehe
Hate the sunshine at the moment grrrr
Same, working all weekend. The fact that I've slipped off the roster radar all year so far has finally caught up with me. Bugger.
Cool :) I've been looking at a few pre-loved Tigers lately. Combine two hobbies into one, riding + fly fishing.
Yes! Something very appealing about getting into some back country. The older Tigers especially would be well suited. The newer ones seem to be more road oriented. Must research their 'moderate' off road ability.
Tell me about it, Been feeling like that for the last three months
Bloody winter!
It will be good to c her again all nice and clean
She's looking stunning alright! Bloody rain and gravel roads don't help tho - grrr. But that's what buckets and hot water are for eh!

When daylight savings starts again i'd hazard a guess that friday night rides would'nt be too far behind.
