anyhow warrent is now done & rego tomorrow & finally we will both be legal for the weekend pootle :wari: our first legal ride together

I thought that in honour of the new arrivals I had better post. It has been manic with the move, PhD stuff  the arrival of steers named after girls with purple eartags, 6 chickens, the jet- setting dawg and the injured rabbit!!! 86 keeps me in touch with the gossip and now we have broadband it doesn't take all night!!

The final arrival, the blue beast, got home at 11pm on Tuesday. Both 86 and I were knackered after 2 wellie trips in 3 days and having to got to work in between (shouldn't be expected). It was great to park it in the garage next to SK1PY, I shall be spoilt by the variety!!!!

Al took him to work on wednesday and then we went for a training trip over piahatua, ballance and the saddle in the evening. We had traded Daytona's near the gorge and that was probably good as the saddle road was awful and the golden girl at present is an easier ride!!! I certainly slowed down after having an oops on the first gravelled corner.

We are having issue with the blue boy running rich so there is a dead spot and then a sudden surge at low rpm, WMC tell me it is the mapping for the pipe but it makes for an interesting trip on the gravel at home. There is no doubt that the bike can move, I shall have to watch myself after being so used to having throttle strained open on SK1PY!!!

And I can confirm that Daytona can certainly get up and go. I reckon its quicker than the 9

Don't say that, the blue beast might be but it will be pootling along at the back just like SK1PY :ride:
At least until I have the guts to open the throttle more than 1/4 of the way. He definately is a grunty man that's for sure:devil2:. Enjoy riding both Daytona's but he is definately different. Less like SK1PY on the back end now 86 has softened the suspension a bit!!!
Scared the pants off me coming down our drive, think 86 was working out how quickly he could park, jump off and grab the bike!!!!

And then there was three........................

Two golduns' at the front and a blue growler at the back (the bike that is).
Matches my sunnies so I had to have it. It is important for us ladies to accessorise :sunny:

I will be riding to Wellington on saturday morning via piahauta, masterton etc if anybody wants to watch me wobble along and go for a jaunt over taka's if weather nice:sunny:

Hi ya all from the south island I am bikeless at the moment so have taken the boat for a two week holiday in the sounds
The concours is in at AFC having a couple of nasty war wounds repaired

Fuck, Fuck, Fuck. Coming home from a great ride with Cowboyz and Sarah as pillion, hit a rabbit 2 kms from home. Turned around to check on it, very dark, misjudged the camber and dropped the bike. The indicator has punched a hole in the fairing, engine case scored, gear lever, clutch bent, footpegs scraped, minor but really gutting. Rabbit OK, it got a pillion ride down Sarah's jacket and is in garage now. I wonder if it has a credit card.

Bugger Al I heard about it through the grape vine, yep they even have one down here thanks to cell phones
Pleased you guys are ok. Know how you feel to damage the bike though

Heya Cowboyz, you havn't been killing any cats round your way have ya? Did you see the spot on Cambell Live tonight about that guy in your patch that is killing the cats? Boy there are some people that hate him over on the TradeMe message board.

Popped in to drop the 250RS barrel off at Dogs and Phebs tonight. Awesome evening to be out on the bike. They weren't home so I decided to do the gravel loop road that goes around the farm. Fantastic!.

Called in again and they'd just gotten back, so had a cuppa and a natter than a ride back home in the dark. Lots of moths, rabbits, the odd sheep, and other unidentifiable wildlife wandering the road.

...and on that note, and not to be out done on the latest trend of biffing bikes down roads...

I passed my Licence test on 100%. woohoo! Thanks Phil Turnbulls for the loan bike. However... Mellissa was on her way to do hers when she stopped at a pedestrian crossing to let a young girl cross on Kimbolton road.
When she found herslf looking up at the same girl, who was now crying, from 10m further down the road, she figured the moron behind her DIDN'T stop. so she joined in the crying... and bleeding.
Loaner CBR looks to be a write off and it ended up under the guys car and got dragged. A few parts are now AWOL as they were ground into powder and simple ceased to exist.

Mellissa appears to have hit the mirror on the way through the front and has a neat and very deep hole punched into her thigh from its mounting bolt. A bit of bruising (ok... alot) and possible concussion as a bonus prize.

Luckily the second car back was an off duty ambulance officer and best of all... the third car back was Constable Gregory Stone. He rocks and looked after my girl bloody well all the way to the bed in A&E! And he witnessed the whole event.

Sadly... she failed her Licence test due to a "No Show".

Awesome, both of em! Sarah's is very 'rorty' due to the pipe, mine's much more refined. The blue one came originally came from WMC and they gave us some 'gremlin exorcism' advice which seems to have done the trick nicely :niceone:

Shit not good at all. Hope Melissa is ok.
Doesnt sound like she was as lucky as me when I got rear-ended.

In regards to her licence test, get a refund form from AA, sent in with details, police report etc, and she should get test fee ($70.80) refunded. Let me know if you have any problems with doing that and I will advise what you need to do.

Just to keep you updated: http://banditrider.blogspot.com/2008/03/southern-bit.html

3,300km racked up so far (6 days). Bike loving it, getting awesome economy. Great roads, great scenery, great weather, great people, expensive gas...

Bugger, bastard, and bitch. What a great ride it's turning out to be,with great weather.Scenery is brilliant, looks good from the air palmy to queenstown, but when cruising up middle of Sth island it does impress, hence the campervans.Hard to watch the road at times with lakes, mountains to view.

Shes up and about this morning with a black and blue butt and smiling.
The bike was a loaner from her Sister in law, and it was immaculate and on a genuine 7500km on the clock. Not many CBR250r's like that left in the world.

However, smiles all round now as the officer rang this morning with news the driver was FULLY insured and is being done for careless driving. New bike time for them and new gear (with more armour everywhere) for Lis.

Rotten thing to happen! Glad she's ok realitively speaking. Bit of a silver lining perhaps, go check out the $450 leather jacket rack at PT's, save you some money so you can spend it on something else.

Congrats on your passing the test, can the dickhead who caused accident be liable for your out of pocket expences for the test, shit not her fault she was late.Tell the testing place your circumstances, they may be nice and give another slot for free, then still tell the dick you want money for the test anyway. The insurance company hopefully won't muck around for you or the owner.

Bugger! Sad to hear about lissa's accident but hopefully she's got some decent painkillers and the swelling goes down quickly. Bit of lukc having a copper there to book him and an ambo on hand. Best of luck getting sorted with new gears and the next round of the test. Might have to have an escort keeping an eye out next time!!

well after an absolute crap few weeks & now Betsy is back home & we are both legal gonna head out each day for rides .. anyone else keen ?Another good ride today.
Meet up with chancey,Sinfull, grub, nasty and Gary at Ashhurst. Off to dogs 'n phebs for a cuppa then on to Mangaweka for a late late lunch.

Chanceys bike lost a circlip for the gear change, which was sorted with some lockwire and Sinfulls bike needed a cut 'n tuck to sort out a cracked fuel hose. Perfect timing the see the train to cross viaduct I must say. Hey, what's a KB ride without some little dramas.

A tad bit of pee gravel from Dogs to the Apati T intersection.

Got home and had cold bath to cool down, a feed and some nice cold beers.

Life is good...................on a motocycle with skinny tires.

I had sooo much of a good time today. Wonderful social intercourse with a great buncha fellas and fellesses (is that what they call fellatio?).

It's only by tagging along with the locals that you find the really good roads. The Apiti area and I hadn't met before. We had played on the Cheltenham to Pemberton to Mangaweka roads ... and in one inspired choice at an intersection we have in the past experienced the Mangaweka Kauwhatau Valley to Taihape route. We didn't do that today (thank goodness) as 465km door-to-door was a good enough run.

We have to recommend the Cafe at the northern end of Managaweka for lunch. It's not the airplane one but is about 100m north of that just along the dirt track or take the side road towards the river just north of the airplane and come into the back lawn. It's a family run business and they were really keen and helpful, good cheap well presented food too.

A road that I've tried to do several time but never managed it was the Vinegar Hill, Cheltenham, Fielding one. Thanks team, we did that after lunch - loved it! Not too taxing at the end of a long day. It was sad to say goodbye we had such a good time with really top people - thanks to one and all.

Have to add the postscript which was enjoying a coffee at Chanceyy's on the way home, looking out her picture window at the evening hot air balloon scramble which saw 7 balloons come stright at the house doing practise dips into Lake Horowhenua. One of them landed in the paddock just outside the window. What a fine way to end a fine day.

Never come across any wondering stock yesterday, which made a change.

Hey, glad Betsy held out with the clutch cable till you got home Chancey. In the olden days, not that long ago really :innocent:, on long trips it wasn't too uncommen to carry a spare clutch cable and at least the throttle pull cable. And you've already found up one of the hundred and one uses for lockwire ;). Also duct tape, first aid kit, spare chain link etc etc etc. Oh hell just take the car................

Saw there are a few empty seats for rock to welly yesterday, seems The Rock are/were giving away a few hundred tickets as Kiss are doing a dvd of their concert and don't want empty seats, hence the organisers are giving them away via the station.

Enjoy the South Island, the way you guys travel am surprised ya not going to Bluff, only day trip from Chch lol.The area around Arthurs Pass is primo, and WestCoast is good, mum said road was good on the coast when we were down there, ride safe and enjoy the concert.

anyhow time was pressing on & so on the road again .. quick jaunt south & said good byes to Tony & Janine quite a constant head wind coming home but its easier to deal with when its constant rather than blustery ..

stoped in wangas where Grub provided the "entertainment" for the day .. right in front of mr :Police: .. am sure he got out just to make sure that no alcohol had been partaken :killingme ..

Good to see everyone home safely which is the name of the riding game.

Have a plan for you guys over Anzac weekend, say leave friday up to Hawera, onto surf highway to Manaia, upto Dawson Falls (mountain),down to Opunake, carry around surf highway to Oakura, then head inland to Egmont Village and East Egmont, back to Stratford and to the Plateau thus going to all 3 road ends of MtEgmont, back to Hawera for bbq at our place, leave bikes here for night.Accomodation at The Furlong (5 mins walk,15 mins stumble)from our place approx $70dbl/twin,next day turn off at Patea damsite then homeward bound, nice easy cruise back saturday, unless you go via paraparas and ohakune and sh1 vinegar hill and other jaunts you guys know.

Dammmmmmm that's tempting, but I might get shot if I don't do some serious greasing at home for a while...............But yeah possibly a goer at this stage, sounds like a blast...:)

Was great to meet some of the manawatu crew today. Chanceyy, NzSarge, Bonez, ynotslow and his partner, and delphinius (although rather briefly, hope your bike goes well after this).... Nice back roads, got to say I loved the Turakina Valley Rd, would be absolutely rocking if you didn't have to worry about white subaru's crossing centrelines and the live stock jumping out in front of you, but I suppose thats what a country back road is all about isn't it.

Not much happened after we split from chanceyy at Sh1/levin turn off. Except going over piecock, every time I turned my lights from high beam to low beam, they WENT OUT. :buggerd:.....One pucker moment coming into the 25km per hour sharp righter, oncoming car so I dipped the lights - car went past - O FUDGE AND OTHER CHOICE WORDS _ WHERE'd MY Bleedin Lights go. Darkness.....o eck penfold, lean the bike to the right, and snap the lights come on.....phewww, made the corner and left the buggers on low beam all the way home......Will get that checked on Wednesdayyyyy.....:)

Home safe and sound, thanks for the day guys and girls, was fan blardy tastic, is what riding is all about.....:)

If this plan goes ahead ynot and numbers get up there, one idea might be to work around heading up to dawson falls towards the end of the day as Konini lodge, is a great place to camp if no one minds bunk house sleeping arrangments ! Sleeps 38 for only 5 or 10 buck a night each, perhaps 15 if prices have moved in the last 6 months !
Great large common room to get on it in ! with a kitchen and Cooking facilities in the joint or a licenced restaurant up at the dawson falls lodge 500 meters away (beds there also of course if anyone wants to pay a couple of hundy for the night)

Damn great idea about konini lodge, never thought of it,plus can take own bevvies.Could reverse the ride, maybe stop at Kaponga pub for dinner even.

There is a new owner for both Dawson Falls and The Mountain House restaurant and hotel complex,a German guy who is a self made millionaire,he is refurbishing both and spending shitloads of $$$ on it,wants to make it upmarket for tourists and locals who wants top class dining,so meals in restaurant could be pricey.Last price for dinner, bed and brekky at Dawson Falls was about $350 double, need some serious loving to shell that much eh guys(shit getting beat again).:girlfight:

Just thought the idea of our local motor inn due to close proximity to our place for bike storage/safety,have nice bike friendly alsation(don't piss on tyres)and garage locks up,once bikes are in bed nobody retrieves em till morning, thus no pissed riders riding.

Also this could be any weekend sort of ride not necessarily anzac one.Just using the anzac friday start gives travellers time to recover and have sunday free.

And for those real serious hikers there is a doc hut about 45mins hike from Dawson Falls sleeps about 16,not bike friendly track hehehe.

Yep thought go up the 3 road ends up the mountain, and bypass NP,we did 2 of em,next one is at Egmont Village.

If we were to stay at Dawson Falls then we'ed go from Hawera to Stratford plateau,Nth Egmont at Egmont Village, onto Mangorei Rd south of NP,then Carrington Rd through a couple roads and come out NP side of Oakura, then surf highway to Opunake, head up Ihaia Rd at Opunake to Wiremu Rd,onto Stratford-Opunake Rd,then up to Dawson Falls. For tea we could take our own and have a cook up or maybe head to Kaponga pub or takeaway shop,if they are closed can head into Manaia(15kmaway)for takeaways which are bloody good.

Motor inn would be less hassle to be sure, could see temps dropping on the mount soonish and ya would have to byo sleeping bags as there are only swabs to sleep on in bunk rooms, nothing like travelling light !
My Partner was sure glad to meet Karl (said german millionare) lol, Heidi in conjuntion with her folks used to be proud owners of Dawson falls, or as she aptly put it *the burden* ! She didn't enjoy her time up there too much, as beautifull as the place was. Being Host in a secluded resort, to her was like caging a free spirit !

Leave it up to those who want to do whatever, was told we have a couple of tents we can erect.
Should be still warmish with a fire going in lodge. The motor inn has rooms to sleep 4,I think(need to check book)so cost comes down.

Hehe Karl knows what he wants and usually NOW,he called our manager on Waitangi day to come up and help with things he wanted done,i.e new bedding, decor, she was tempted to say it's a holiday!!But he has spent well around the province, some people are giving him a hard time as it is percieved he is pricing it(meals and accomodation)out of average locals budget. He has his idea of what will work so has really trying to get it up and running, the Stratford side is looking really good, the rooms recarpeted, new beds, restaurant revamped.

Have stayed in a few huts on the mountain over the years,no fun in road boots, jackets ok for weather though if cold, love gore-tex when wet.

Unless you get one with higher milage you'll find even second hand ones still quite expensive. If you do look into one check the front end out in detail particularly the steering head bearings coz they mono real easy, if I had one i'd be pulling mono's all the time, just a twist of the throttle away in first but it's more a torque mono than a power mono so it's more low speed.

Yeah I could definitely see the sterring head bearings and forks getting a pounding on a SuperDuke :Punk:
Yeah $16k ain't too bad but as you say that opens the door to plenty of low milage second hand bikes, there is a very low milage blue '07 FZ1 SV for sale at PT's for $15k for instance or Barbenders '06 ZX14 for $15k fully kitted with ohlins rear shock, modded forks, PC3 and pipe and so on.
A light bloke like you does'nt really need that many cubes though, a 600cc would be plenty.
Yes as I understand it to be the FZ6 has a detuned R6 motor and they are supposedly quite peaky, same issue with my bike, detuned R1 motor but really no one home under 5-6k on the tacho....

Yes as I understand it to be the FZ6 has a detuned R6 motor and they are supposedly quite peaky, same issue with my bike, detuned R1 motor but really no one home under 5-6k on the tacho....

haha yea ,something like a zx14 would get me into too much trouble id say and would probably throw me off for sure as i dont think i have the bodyweight to wrestle that beast into the corners just yet .Things like that zx14 really put e off the SD as they are already done up with 1000's spent on them.yea 1000cc is nice but i like the 600's as they as soo light and nimble and easy enought to wrestle for a fella like me ;)

What about a Kawasaki Z750? good looking bikes.:niceone:

yea looked at them actualy but i wasnt really liking the setup at all with the pipes and just general look of it.felt very wide and upright and not as willing to tip in as other bikes like the FZ6 ,maybe it was the tyres....

am more going for a faired bike ,am booked in for a test ride on a VFR800 tomorrow so that will be interesting  as it was a reccomendation from the local honda fella ,he reckond it was what im after apparently, saying it was a good bike for ya touring and sport rideing, so we will see how that goes, really do like the stylying and setup. not sure what else to look at really ...

well if your interested in a hornet 900 .... you know how has got one for sale  and i wont even compare them as im biased but honestly hornet 900 is the way to go i reckon -not a big heavy 1200 but also not a high revving 600 tis in between and i reckon absolutely blows the bandit out of the water in terms of prizes for best all rounder, really easy to maneuver around town ,nice and light ...ah i could go on for hours lol

You could always take a chanceYY hehe and hit the dealer up to see if they'll let ya take it out for a good run ! Know where there's a 5 hour round trip poker run happening, or perhaps a hand or two (swing back in to grab betsy then meet for the next hand)
$10 buck gets ya in to the poker run (no idea of prize for best hand, front tyre be good lol) or $20 gets ya the run, meal and first handle at the end of it !
Live entertainment and a great venue for partaeing at, or camping if those further afield are reading this !!!

Chance to meet some knobs and also some cool lads and lasses. From the contact i've had with this group in the past, they all seem to be a great bunch (Ok thats the limit of my sucking up to em, beers good guys) Who knows about the crew that might show up, but aint that what is all about miles and smiles ?

Registration is at 10 am at Sparky's bar few hundy metres on the left down the pioneer highway towards palmy from the Himatangi junction ! Ride leaves at 11 am, be nice to see a tail pinned on this f.cka, can only lead to bigger and better things :headbang:

hmm yea very true ,but i guess if i didn't have fairings it would've more than likely of destroyed my engine casings which would of left me with a buggered engine so maybe thats something to think about (whether fairings would provide protection i dont know ,but it makes sense in my case )

Best plan is to stay on the bike that way the rider is better off too!

Why worry about repair costs that hopefully never eventuate? It may be more worthwhile to price up insurance for the different models - it's possible there could be a difference between naked/faired, sports/sports-tourer etc.

I never plan to use insurance but damn glad I have had it when vehicle was stolen/broken into .. etc .. I never plan to fall off either but accidents happen & as much as you try to reduce the risk .. you can never plan on wot others could do ..

regardless of insurance cost I will still get a bike that I really enjoy, so even if it was cheaper to get a faired bike, & I prefer the nakid I will still get it .. insurance costs is low down on my priority list .. its just a necessary evil

Called into Dannevirke Suzuki today and they have a 1250 but they have'nt wet it up cause it's not a demo either. It's a non-abs version at $14k but in that price is $500 accessories or what ever and an aftermarket exaughst too.

Blah, blah, blah, sales pitch for shit we traded it for more than it's worth,so best we get our dough back, rather than sell at loss and free up capital, your in the no trade demanding discount part of buying, cash or hp not an issue but no trade is your weapon to get a few $$$ off.

For: Luggage (old style though), low k's

Against: 3 generations old - have only had a brief ride on one of these and they don't handle like the later ones. A mate of mine had one and he pootled about two-up sweet as though (he has seen sense and got a Connie now though). He even did the GC on it - no probs of course!

I know it has .. & he has racked up over 3,000 ks on it .. so he has been using it .. still its a 1200 that I can try .. & then swap for the 05 model as a difference

Yeah, if Mark had had a similar range to me we coould have possibly planned things a bit better - it was easier to just fill up when he did otherwise we'd be stopping more often. Also, probably wouldn't have save a huge amount over the whole trip - $10 if you were lucky.

The Connie did get better economy than the Bandit most of the time (esp when we had the pace up) and the extra 2L it can take also helps...

On the cost of the trip,an extra $20 on fuel(over trip) in out of the way places aint goner hurt.Just the accomodation there lol. When we worked it out either drive or fly to Queenstown it was similar cost wise, drive and see the place but extra couple of days travel and costs with that(ferry $390 return)or take the aero way.Mind you we were lucky to grab a relocation with thrifty rentalcar to take an Nissan X trail to Chch, cost us the insurance waiver$29 plus fuel so still drove part of the way.Good way to go relocating, but is hit and miss, you may find no vehicles need relocating if you don't go back on Monday or Tuesday.

met with Bonez Oscarnz & Rottiguy for a quick flick to Pahiatua to try the 99 & 01 1200's ..

took the 01 bandit out first .. Ks 25,919, red nice bike to ride for sure .. nice seat & felt really balanced.

Headed out towards alfredston got into a groove pretty quickly & corners realllllllllll nice .. parked up & had a good look a few flecks of paint off it here & there .. but overall pretty tidy ..

on the way back & played with her a bit .. slowed & really listened to the motor .. hmm picked up a bit of a engine whine at lower speeds ahh no thanks

time to head back & take the 99 (with the givi gear) for a quick flick .. as soon as i got on this bike could tell the front end was a lot lighter .. so off for a few quick twisties .. this had a lower screen & got a bit of buffeting fr the breeze .. handled more like the 600 with the front end being lighter ..

no paint chips off it .. & was quite tidy but age is against it .. one plus this bike does have low ks for its age .. only 22,000ks

Oscar parted company to head home while we went on a bit of a mission so Bonez could add an old helmet to the "fence" at Mangamarie (photo op for prosperity)

quick blat back to Palmy & got to PT's & time to test ride another bike ... talked Rottiguy into test riding the Bandit 600 I took out last week while I rode the GSX1400 ..

felt like i was riding a hog .. wide handlebars & quite heavy but hell of a nice ride on the open road, & dipped into the corners really easy .. being completely nakid bike took quite a bit of buffeting in the wind ... so not a fan of nakids. This bike had quite a few xtra's heated grips, pack rack, scott oiler, & crash bars had done 15,000 ks .. so for $10,500 was a bargain .. just to heavy for me to toss around ..

Then off to Carmens for a coffee & man tiredness set in .. but off to cafe cuba for afternoon dessert & checked out Anza for a look .. back home which was a very sedate trip as I was shattered .. a nana nap was on the cards after feeding the horses .. feel much better now

still looking for a newer model bandit 1200 to try ..

Take the time to find out what suits,I have same opinion about the GSX1400 or most naked bikes, about wind etc.

What about the GSX750 katana $10g new,old technology but proven and value is there.

Popped into Phils myself & had a quick nosey. The 600 looks reasonably tidy (didn't poke & prod). You weren't tempted to try one of the VTR's in there? Same power as the 1200 but a bit more of a racey ride position (and sportier handling) and small tank, but nice bikes all the same. Nah, getta Bandit!

Agreed, and the new 650 is a much better bike - injected so probably more economical too.

Yep, a small range sux. A 1200 should get you 300km on a tank at 110-120km/h which is a nice relaxed speed on one of them. Bandits have a great ride position - comfortable, but the wide bars make 'em easy to hiff around.

Dunno - same size tank though. Could be better due to smaller capacity or could be worse - more revs???

Procycles is staunch Triumph, MV and used HD.
I've never seen a Jappa in there. I heard that they actually dont trade Jappas.
Was in there recently too and there were new Triumphs, MV Augustas and a few used Harleys.

But Chancey.....buy a Triumph, that would be cool.....and you'll love it!
