Hey Nzsarge, yod, ect im just wondering where you guys tend to take your bikes (Who's the Best). I was doing quite a bit of my dealings through Freedom Honda but have found there new mechanic / (manager i think?) to be a bit of an arse and not very usefull. I have just started going to Phill Turnbull's about a month ago found them to be pretty good. I have not been in palmy that long so you guys would know better than me. Each to there own i know but your thoughts would be appreciated.
All the bike shops in Palmy are pretty good, tho I've not had any major dealings with FH except to buy a helmet and they happened to have a chain link for the gixxer a couple of years back. You can't go wrong with PT's.
oops, forgot....i think we are probably heading up to opunake to retrieve the blue daytona, might have to confirm.....
It looks as if the Blue Daytona will be in Opunake for a couple more weeks yet waiting on insurance issues. So I doubt if this trips on. Sarah and I will prob head down to Wellie for me Mum's birthday.
Had an 80's bikes fest yesterday, got as far as Pilgrims Rest, hadn't stopped there for years! Had a good old yak with the owners and got home well after dark. On the way there had a great time on the Gixxer, man that baby can still hustle. Blew a headlamp tho, lucky it's got two. Swapped bikes on the way home, very surreal riding Pohongia Valley East Rd using Skippy's candle in an attempt to illuminate the road :ride:

Room for a 250 to tag along? I'm not going to keep up with the big bikes but at least I can now do the speed limit without feeling like an outlaw. I'd put some on my GV250 except (a) I only intend to own it for a few more months and (b) the electrical system on this bike is notoriously underpowed (or rather, depending on your point-of-view, precisely right-sized in order to keep the battery charged and the lights on without any charging capacity to spare!).
I bought some winter-weight Rev-Its from ANZA and they're nice gloves but not quite warm enough to prevent freezing fingertips on longer night rides in current conditions. Are my expectations realistic - are any gloves warm enough or are heated grips the only real solution?

the Oxford's have a voltage thingamajig so they automatically switch off if the power goes below 11.5V, so you can't screw your battery

I used to have a spare pair of goretex/goat skin ski gloves that were warm in all but arctic conditions but they were pretty thick - they didn't bug me but some people may not like that sort of bulk getting in the way of the 'feel' of their bars

I'm no expert on gloves, but after having to wear three pairs last winter and still suffering I'm going for heated grips too. They're just over $100.00 , you can't get a decent pair of gloves for that.
Triumph riders don't have heated grips Al! If you must get them, could you tell people the dial is the boost for your turbo or something?

Well said. Are you doing the Forgotton Highway on Monday?
Is the pope catholic, been trying to get a couple of other bods from work to do it,but might do it Sunday, very much optional though, except for the bloody surcharge on holidays.Memo just drink cheap drinks lol.
Wuss with grips, must find my polyprop liners, summer type don't keep all that warm, hate the bulk of winter weight, mind you if day is fine they (gloves are ok),just the odd cooler late arvo they get chilly.
Mind you the cost is nothing compared to safety, cold hands and bad lights are two things which need to be addressed if need be.Nothing worse than thinking holy shit it's cold, then not concentrating on ride.
Sussed out a new light today though, instead of the 60/55w,local auto sparky has a phillips +80 bulb(60/55),80% more light as well as 25mtrs more range, and same output, plug in and go possum hunting lol.$44.00 each,he said no voltage drop, and should be good for bikes with lighter wiring.

Try possum and merino mix,if they (socks)come in a work type format, less bulk but warmth,if you do the F/H ride and head home via Wanganui, the factory is about 10km out of Stratford on the left heading to Opunake.Call into the information centre 10-3.00? to suss it out, they have details.

its a CBR family thing. We have the same problem with both 400's and the CBR250R Hurricane (funny name really, considering how devastating a Hurricane is and how pathetic the MC19 is).
The bar weights are (if stock) designed to have the grips partially cover them. Otherwise, we have had to trim the grips down as I have oxford carbon bar ends on. Don't forget the safety wire.

sorted - just put spacers between the end weight and the bar end so it doesnt interfere with the grip

Lock wire... safety wire... you should ALWAYS put it on your grips ato hold them on. Water gets under them and they can slip straight off on a corner etc.
I have it a quite a few bolts on the Blade. even the Sump bolt has a little hole drilled in the side of it to lock wire it on.

We had a similar sort of scare - nearly got our pictures taken just south of Matawai. Luckily the car I had just caught up to must have gone through the other way earlier and flashed his brake lights hard out and waved furiously until I cottoned on. Good bloke - I'm pretty sure we're cool.

now decide whether you want a v-tec or not? ('02 onwards i think)
Tough choice that one. The Gen 5 98 - 01 VFR/Interceptor has the cams gear driven (1 tick) and no VTEC (another tick) but dated looks (one cross) which may actually lower its buy price (another tick). It has no unnerving assist systems on the brakes either (1 tick).
The Gen 6 02-08 has closer looks to my TYGA kit and the RC211v which I really like (2 ticks) but... linked brakes and optional ABS (an unknown to me and something that makes me a little nervous - more research needed), a chain driven cam (1 cross - part of hondas appeal was its bulletproff cam gear set and the whine it makes) and a simplified VTEC system which doesn't work as intended (1 cross - before 06 it kicks in with a jolt at 6800rpm - usually mid corner...). I've messed with hi-po VTECs and i-VTECs for a few years and the VTEC transition point can make ofr break the whole point of the system. In this case it robs low end and unsettles the bike on activation. Price is higher being newer too (1 cross)
Gen5 gets 4 ticks and 1 cross without a test ride
Gen6 gets 2 ticks and 3 crosses without a test ride.
Time to visit Freedom and Keown Honda.

Nice paint job James, good on ya for changing it :niceone:
Sorry to hear about Lis Sly, that's not good! Perhaps she's had all her bad luck now and should be trouble free from now on?
On a minor note in the scheme of things, the Daytona now has all the new bits needed after the 'rabbit encounter'.

All sorted chaps. I headed up SH 1 and ran into Sandra, Sel's and Gareth (Sel's bro) a few km north of the Halcombe turnoff. Sels has a Tiger and Gareth has a Bonnie, so Sandra had a pretty classy escort I thought  Coffee at Bulls, then back via Halcombe Hill to Oscarnz's. Sugilite txtd from Bulls so another quick ride up to Rangitiki St to guide him in. Very fortuitous it was and they should be in Levin about now I'd say. Missed the rain but only just, whew.
