spotted you on Main St when we were almost home
good to see a fellow biker out in the pissing rain :niceone:
Saw the big blue bike 2 up and thought it might be you guys. Popped over to Woodville to see the olds, nice ride on the way over, nice pouring rain on the way back, and some twat in the Gorge who thought 1.5m off my rear was a safe following distance. :(
Then I was out on Sunday, bit breezy and when I stopped at some lights in town I noticed a new rattle, so pulled over for a quick inspection and discovered my horn (a Stebel magnum) hanging from the wires! The cheap metal bracket was cheap indeed!

As a side point. repaired that 2CT and am about to go check out the new bead breaker to see how good it works. (actually already tested it on some trailer tyres and it works mint).

Yeah, but I just laughed at the fact it sounds exactly like a bike accelerating.
I love the way Americans will look at anything with a motor, and their first thought is "I could put a V8 in that... and RACE IT". Tractors, lawnmowers, chainsaws, you name it, they'll put a ridiculously large motor in it and try and be faster than someone else (although typically only in a straight line :) ).

650 V-Stroms get very good write-ups (esp in Two Wheels). Apparently they go alright and are very economical. Ran into a guy I used to flat with the other day and he's got one - he's over 20 stone and it seems to get him around well enough (poor wee bike). Seat height?

Yeah the seat height is fine-but most other Dual purpose (although I know they aren't really Dual or good on gravel-just seem to have a higher suspension?), are too tall. I have been told they can adjust anything `down' but if a bikes setup has to be moved that much then somethings gotta give- in that something else must be compromised at the expense of the lower height?

But i have heard of riders from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and possibly Tauranga are doing a big loop. Starts in auckland, heads through those cities, then down to Taupo.
I believe its a ride to remember fallen riders?
Anyway, so if you guys do head upto Taupo, im sure you will meet all the other bikers :)

Oi!
I was out for a good time not a long time.........
had a bit of entertainment coming back over vinegar hill. Firstly found a driver (think he was just coming home from playcentre judging by his age) who thought it would be good to pass on a blind corner coming towards me. He would have been alot lighter as I was all over his car but managed to find a line round the outside of the corner.
Was very entertaining it was.

Arrived at Ashhurst first for a change, over the next 20 minutes a nice collection of steeds gathered in readiness, as well as some random car loaded with wood and a woodchopper at the wheel.
After convincing the aforementioned woodchopper that he really wouldnt be able to keep up in a hyundai, he swapped it for a kwaka <Insert complete pisstake here> and we were off.
The dry sections on vinegar hill were mint. Where it was damp we took care, as it wasn't long after 9 and there was still a few icy patches showing. Good warmup for the days riding. We hit SH1 and pootled off to Taihape for the norm; a pie and coffee.
The woodchopper headed back as his hyundai, woodpile, couch and tv were all feeling lonely. The rest of the crew were made of sterner stuff and carried on into the breech; the icy wilderness that is the central plateau.
The closer to the high country we got the more snow and ice surrounded us. Magnificent views in all directions and we took the opportunity to stop for some photos in the snow, with the mountain in the background. Mint. Some cheeky sod thought a load of snow through my visor would be a good idea, then she went and hid behind my wife, no fair.
The darker corners of the three sisters were still icy and covered in grit so it was a pretty gentle pootle through there. Brilliant adventure to do the desert road in those conditions. The heated grips were coming into their own.
Gloriously sunny north of the plateau, as we stopped in Turangi for some property evaluation to be done at Al's residence. BR and Mark had a tighter schedule than us so they decided to gas up and get going while we arsed around some more. Good riding with you chaps, hope the rest of your ride was as good as ours. Took advantage of the snow-throwers guilt to swindle a spin on her mighty beast. MUAHAHAHAHAAA......cool fun. You really needa bigger bike Mon!
The daytona riders decided to swap steeds and then we pressed on to Taupo. This was later referred to as "Al's pootle". Long story. We were all very, err, "sedate" until a certain kwaka rider decided he simply couldn't take anymore and took off like a scared rabbit. You could almost hear the rest of the crew; "oh....alright then...". Things weren't quite so sedate up the hill from there....nice to stretch the legs tho.
Stopped for a good feed and coffee in Taupo and perused a rather nice black 1050 Tiger parked outside....go on Al, you know you want to.
Gassed up and headed off towards Napier. Apparently I was a bit of a pootler and (yet again) a certain kwaka rider decided to nip past and force the pace nicely. Cool. Then another kwaka rider (who really needs a bigger bike) decided to nip past as well. WTF?? Oh well....the pace was fine and the little red ninja was putting some spectacular lines in so I just tacked on her tail and got in another good zone. Finally into some twisties and hello, we're off. Sarge did his disappearing act while I glued myself to the Concours and we got into a farkin sweet zone, shortly the big gold daytona made it's presence felt as it went in search of the FZ1 and things got even more rapid. What a bloody awesome road. Dry and predictable = bloody good pace. The Big Bird and the Concours were nicely in sync as usual and the km's flew by. For some reason I enjoyed it a lot more going Taupo -> Napier. (I've only done it the other way in the past).
We paused to let the group regather just short of Bayview and to shoot some shit. (We never miss). Then carried on for gas and a snack/smoke/coffee/etc.
Dusk was settling in as we headed out through Taradale for SH50 and the run home. And WHAT A FOOKIN SURPRISE, a certain kwaka rider decides to force the pace again. Oh....alright then. Superb run through 50 at pace. Absolutely superb. The growl and thunder of multiple steeds being used as the biking gods intended is the shizzle. Loved it.
A brief pause at the end of 50 where we decided it was too cold for a brief pause at the end of 50. Had a spectacular night blast home with the two daytonas from there.
Rear tyre is well and truly toasted. Decided the woodchopper should have come the whole way more often so I don't have to do so much typing in future.
Yet another great Manawatu ride with the usual top notch crew.
Thanks all.

What's with putting those small speed bumps on a couple of those steep downhill parts?
Kinda strikes me as that would be the ideal time to have full braking capacity without being upset by stupid man made bumps!
yeah, those were an arse!
i wonder if anyone clobbered those sheep?
did you see that goat that was munted?

works on vibration.
So only effective on a Harley... or a Kwaka? :)
Sorry, these jokes sometimes write themselves.
Went for a ride on Saturday, damn it was cold, a few hail showers and I had the grips running at 70% (the green light) for most of the day. Actually had cold toes as well.
Passed on Sunday because my rear tyre's getting a bit square and a bit lively in the damp spots when upright.

I'm applying for a refund on my Scottoiler and then talking to Lance :shifty:
he he. I only have a kwaka model one. Might be more expensive building a triumph model one with the single sided swingarm in all.
yeah, t'was primo, without doubt
i'll stick to my waxing
Far too much info............
try this http://www.chainoiler.co.uk/ been running it for about 1 year now, bought it cos i couldn't afford scott oiler, can't really fault it!
Yep. seen those. Pretty much just copied it without the name on it.
It probably doesnt work as well as a scott oiler but it does drip oil onto the chain so it cant be doing any harm.

fuck. even I am not THAT rough.
50ml squezzy bottle.
1m pressure tubing
3 cable ties.
works on vibration.
No leaks while bike is not moving and a very slow drip while bike is moving. Might be a little too slow so just reach down and give the bottle a small squeeze at the end of ride. Might have a closer look at the scott oilers and see about running a vaccuum line in the top of it.
My old man has made up a couple using a solenoid hooked up to the front brake switch. Film canister for an oil reservoir, hose with very small orifice in it to control how much oil dripped onto chain. On a long cruise he would remember to activate it every now and again. When pushing it, you could smell oil cooking off some hot part or other. Worked well...
He's looking at his next bike at the mo so may need to make up another one...and the vtr needs one too...
