No worries on being the 'Guiding Light' It sounded as if a angry mosquito was on my tail at times! I've also never hugged the centre line for 150 km's before  It was esp strange as I'd been doing my best to keep away from the centre line all day up to that point
Moe-Awhi thanks you for the chocolate and hot date too!!!! (we won't mention cake :devil2:)
hmm Sarge already knows he missed out on cake .. thats wot he gets for going on a ride today  :sunny: but i am sure Moe-Awhi can tell him how nice it was ..
hmm must admit thats the first riding in the dark .. apart from the one section where I was getting bombarded by the stones from your rear wheel I thought we did a fantastic job to get me back to your place safely
Hint to everyone ... do not I repeat do not follow sugi over gravel .. thats if you can keep up with him in the first place :killingme

Bugger, I crashed! I binned on the ride home from Pahiatua on the first bend before entering the track. I have no excuse other than going too fast and basically brain-locked. I went into the corner with too much speed, crossed to the other side of the road and dropped it as soon as the front wheel touched the grass. I’m really pissed off with myself, as this accident could have been easily avoided. I’ve come out of it without a scratch (good gear), but helmet, bike and pride are a little worse for wear. A really big thank you to Slydesign and Lis for helping me out and getting the bike on the road. It’s very much appreciated!!!
Now I’m off to sulk a while.:o
Please give me a day before giving me a well deserved ass kicking.

I was thinking the same thing after we got him up and on the way again. Kicking myself for not mounting it today! Would have been some stellar footage of the right way to drop a bike.
He used the carrier arrestor method... a tape electric fence tangled in his gearshifter and appears to have slowed him and helped pull him down in the left side, whacking his head into the road (helmets rock) which sounds bad but isn't compared to where he COULD have ended up, and the rest of him and the bike slid along on some soft wet grass and dirt. If he had not gone that way he would have ran into a knee height double wire fence mounted on half rounds that would have really F*#ked up his day. Its the main reason we were laughing alittle (stress release) when me and Lis realised how close he could have come to pain, yet he walked then rode away relatively unscathed.
He ended a half metre away from said fence.

Cheers Meanie! I'm not sure there is a good reason for crashing. I know I made more than one error. Too fast, grabbing a handfull of front brake (panic), but most of all, a lack of concentration. It's not a bad corner either, it was just ridden badly!:spanking:

Is this the left hander where theres a side road on the right off towards balance?
Probably a good thing you dropped going off the raod or you would have ended up with alot more gravel/tarmac rash.
This is making a bit of a mockery of the manawatu rides never having any bins. I'm starting to feel a bit left out.

The corner was the left hander before the railway line. Just before entering the track. I'll upload a map with red showing roughly where I went off and ended up. As you'll see, no excuse!!!

Wow right outside the powder plant just out of town. I sort of thought of the track as being just the bit where you start going up the hill till the really sharp 35k turn on the Palmerston side. But I suppose the whole road is technically the track.
Interesting place to can off. I'll have to check it out next time I'm over that way.

Cheers, Al! As it turns out, I'm not completely unscathed. I feel like I’ve been learning how to barefoot water-ski again. My biggest worry is having no memory from the 100kph sign at the end of the bridge to the corner concerned. I remember the accident from the “Oh shit” point, but nothing in the approximately 1.5km before. After checking out the accident scene yesterday, I have to wonder if I was even awake. I’d rate this corner as near impossible to fuck up. That scares the shit out of me!

Look after ya noggin mate, sound a bit like you may have suffered some sort of concussion.

I saw your helmet. You have concussion.
No swift head movements for a week. I've seen a guy pass out in the air on a SuperX track while jumping a triple. He had a huge crash the week before and was suffering a decent concussion (bruising and sweeling on the brain on the area of impact and sometimes on the opposite side as well). The sudden change in direction (up and over the jump) knocked his brain inside his skull and he passed out.
Needless to say the landing was messy.
I've had 10 decent ones and I know they can kill you so take it easy for a week dude. It the reason I don't race anymore. I was stood down from competing for 6 months after the last one.

Cheers for that Simon! I'll certainly take your advice, though I'm surprised my GP didn’t mention concussion, when I raised my concerns. I told her of my loss of memory and showed where my head is a little tender. That may explain the headache and sore eyes when driving back from Pahiatua yesterday.

Good move, A-star seem to be a little miserable with their sizing.
They do as you'd expect and stretch a little but being snug of fit rather than too small is fine by me as far as gloves go.
My Clover RS-3's are still quite a bit more comfortable though.

heard good things, read good things, found good pricing on it (Stealth model), and liked the look and graphics too and it's fibreglass, not polycarb
Nolan was great but:
-wasn't too fussed on flip-up, i didn't mind it, just felt i didn't really need it
-it was a bit heavy (partly due to it being a flip-up)
-it was a bit noisy - will wait and see what the agv is like
-change is as good as a holiday
gloves are mint, Drystar Vega - neoprene, leather, carbon fibre and thinsulate - these will be my new winter/touring gloves, have got some straight out lined leather teknics on the way too, for the warmer weather (my old rev-its were good, but they were an arse when it was hot)

I am pleased that you have new gear. But in a round about way thanks for nothing.
Whilst that I realized that your purchasing power overseas is better, it does nothing to help the local bike shops. Who do you go to when you have issues with your new gear, certainly not the place in the States that you brought it from. You go to your local bike shop and expect them and the local supplier to rectify the problem for a product you didn’t even purchase in NZ.
This is happening more and more guys, as I see it on a weekly basis. But this does nothing to help the local bike shops that have a large investment in inventory to give the customer a good range of choice, of which is then only used as a sizing and problem solution to buy overseas at a cheaper price, hence harming our local economy.
You are the first ones to complain when your local bike shops don’t have what you want. This will become more and more if the locals don’t shop locally. One of the advantages to shopping locally at which ever shop that maybe, is the development of a relationship with your chosen shops staff, and you will find that if you support them, they will look after you.
But you guys and girls that shop overseas are the first to expect a discount or some other form of concession from the shops when you need something in a hurry that you can’t source from overseas. Where’s the fairness in that??? Especially to our loyal customers.

you are spectacularly full of assumptions.....and surprise surprise, they are all wrong
i have never gone to any bike shops when i have had issues with gear i have bought overseas....ever
i have never expected any retailer to front up with support for a product they didn't sell me....ever
i have never complained when a shop hasn't had something i was after....ever
and i have never expected "a discount or some other form of concession" when i need something in a hurry....ever
and just for the sake of throwing a few facts around:
the markup on products in NZ are OBSCENE - i can buy a items off ebay for HALF the price they are sold for here, literally HALF, in some cases even less
AGV helmet - $268 (which no-one sells in palmy anyway)
NZ price - $549
I've seen alpinestars leathers you can land here for $800 and retailers in Auckland sell them for $1800.....
thats a pretty bloody ridiculous markup considering a retailer can buy these items for even less than joe public can!
are you really surprised we go and buy off shore when the discrepancy between prices is that huge?
and btw, i actually spent close to $2k on tyres, chain, sprockets, rotor, repairs, pack rack and other accessories at my local shop on my last bike, i wonder how much cheaper they would have been had I had the option of buying them in the states?

Hey yod ya hit a nerve there didn't ya?
As an aside was speaking to a manager of a retail shop which is getting in on the "voucher mate" website discount promotion, the mark up they usually have is w/s x1.95($100w/s ex gst to $195 retail inc gst)they say with the way people ask for cash discount and the various promotion discounts they are going to a flat w/s x2.1.
And not casting any doubt here when I was in clothing manufacturing years ago the margin from shirts we sold to say Hallensteins for $10.00 was retailing at $19.95,no gst then either.Ok account for freight etc.
Common theme today is what discount you give me,know of one firm giving 15% off for cash to a large company(300 employees) for all stock on the floor.Wasn't long ago Kattmandu were prosecuted for false declaration of sale goods saying 50%off,and all they did was mark everything up to take in the discount, can't blame the consumer for being dubious when they can buy offshore at great prices compared to here.
Most retialers should know their stock to realise goods bought offshore etc and returned faulty, not fitting etc,to politely tell customer to take it back.If customer says I bought it on ebay then they should be encouraged to buy local, tactfully.

I have no problem buying locally when the prices are reasonable, i bought all my last set of gear except the helmet in NZ.....but when i can see that buying the gear i'm after locally will cost me around $2200-$2300, and ordering similar stuff from the US will cost me $1200-1300....???
i dont have enough money to just throw away an extra thousand dollars when i dont have to (throwing suzukis down the road notwithstanding of course:laugh:)
it's simply a matter of the changes to a free market as e-business takes its toll....

Just because someone walks into a shop doesnt make automatic rights that they are going to spend their money there. I can see the irritation with "shopper" who "window shop" for what they want, try everything out and then but elsewhere. That is bad karma.
Thats not what Yod did and Paul, you can go to timeout. Wrong time, wrong place.
I try to support the local shops but the local shops are making it hard. I work with machinery every day. There is no real reason why I cant service my own bike. Except convience. I was solid on AFC until they disappointed me. Now I choose your shop. Sure I dont buy a new bike every six months and on the grand scale of things I am a very little fish in your pond but I do give you oppourtunity to sell me something I need/want first and formost.
With the recent brake pad thing I came and asked you how much. You were too dear and I told you that. Maybe it was the market, maybe it was the inflated prices, it doesnt matter, my hand was forced to buy elsewhere at 25% of the price. As it later turned out I could have got the parts in NZ for 50% of your price. If I had come across them before I had ordered the ones from the states I would have paid that, even though it was double the landed imported price, but four times is just too much.
Well Said Pauly .. :msn-wink:
It should be known by now that I dont simply agree with people because I like them and dont automatically disagree with people I dont like.
That said, While you are showing so much support for Pauls outrage, how many of the test ridden bikes did you buy and which shop are you getting your next bike from?

Intrapersonal Communication.
Speaking aloud (talking to oneself), reading aloud, repeating what one hears; the additional activities of speaking and hearing (in the third case of hearing again) what one thinks, reads or hears may increase concentration and retention. This is considered normal, and the extent to which it occurs varies from person to person. The time when there should be concern is when talking to oneself occurs outside of socially acceptable situations.

Careful with that fence there sly. Arguments come up from time to time, but with this one I will park my arse firmly in Yods corner.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting on a fence, I bought most of the bling on the JadedBlade from eBay as I couldn't source it here or had to go through the local Honda dealer (who I'd rather not deal with if avoidable) and PT's couldn't stock Geniune Honda parts.
Case in point PT's did a fine job of getting me some fibre plates but can't find an alternative to the genuine Honda Steel plates for my clutch, so I either had to go the eBay road or the Honda dealer. Originally the shop couldn't get me anything as they had no parts catalogue or microfiche for an NC29. Found the item pretty easily online though. The shop now has the Part catalogue so I'll be getting them locally but I very nearly went offshore for it.
Yod chose an AGV helmet, which he said couldn't be bought at PT's so how did he do any harm? Should he have changed his choice to something that IS available? HELL NO! Thats the tactics HONDA are using RIGHT NOW to phase out 2 Strokes - making it hard to get parts and easy to get the 4 stroke stuff so customers will choose that instead.
I just don't think this was the place to let rip and I could envision 80% of people lining up behind Yod - myself included.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion Lance after all its the colorful characters that make life intersting.
That said, While you are showing so much support for Pauls outrage, how many of the test ridden bikes did you buy and which shop are you getting your next bike from?
I test rode from 3 shops & if the bikes I rode were of reasonable value or did not have question marks over them I could have brought from anyone of them & would be happy to have done so .. Besides that one of the others who was also test riding is looking at buying brand new so potentionally 2 sales.
Along with that is my lack of knowledge of motors etc so relied quite heavily on those with more knowledge/experience than me I know this next bike will be lasting me a few yrs
Due to a chance conversation, I have found a bike privately and it happens to be very good value for money .. This was not the route I had intended to go, & if it was meant to be its meant to be ..
At least the test riding days are over .. however how many ppl are there (not specifically in our group) who regularly test ride with no intention of buying ? quite a few I would think .. esp after reading some of the posts
Edit: I see both sides of the story/arguement .. I understand where pauly is coming from, after all its his job .. and Jonno is into saving money .. there is no right & wrong or sides to stand on

Just to clarify. When I posted the above quote what I meant was to welcome Paul to KB, not to take any position on the above discussion.
Both sides of the argument are totally valid and I agree with both Paul and Yod.
It does appear that a growing number of bikers, as our numbers grow, are indeed using the bike shops as test beds with no intention of buying, this is wrong and rightfully pisses off the guys who have to deal with it and tidy up after them.
Jonno on the other hand could never be accused of such tactics and as he rightfully points out, he has never done so. Plus, he spent a good wad on hardware for the RF, god bless her.
So a big welcome to Paul and a speedy replacement for Yod, may there be many happy rides ahead.

If you want the Suzuki to stay in as good a codition as the RZ you'll have to put some twostroke oil into a mister bottle as spray the bike with a coat of oil every week. Let the dust collect on the oil. This stops the paint fading, the steel rusting, aluminum corroding, and the heavier layers of dirt protect from stone chips.
Edit: And yes this is a piss take.

Good day for tinkering. Pack "L" brackets and frame fitted to Gerble(the things you find when looking for something else :done:). Fitted GSX750Ex spring preload adjusters, off Gasaxes old fork tubes, to the front forks. Look trick :done:. Also fitted new brake bads (well good ones off the 750F I wrecked) :done: Went for a ride to bead the pads in. Needs a new chain. Boy these thumpers chew through them compared to il4s.

Well bloody good arvo. Waited for Lance and a whole group of riders, around 10 or so, turned up. The lead rider, Alan, introduced himself and invited us to tag along. OK says us. And off we toodle. Nice bunch of "mature" riders, lots of grey hair.
Off through to Dannevirke via the scenic route with Gerble to the front showing the rest where to go. Stopped at Dannevirke for a natter, top up and a smoke. Then down the weber road and the back route towards Ormondville.
Stopped at an intersection to regroup and hmm why is the brand new Hyabusa smelling like Rotorua and steaming merrily away? Battery removed and left to settle down and limp to civilisation or organise a trailer.
At this point some decided to head on through Ormondville straight home while 5 of us headed of to Johns for a cuppa. Lost Barry and a few others about this time. Hope they made it home ok.

Was very impressed in the two new mufflers sported by Sarge and Blacksheep. Nice guys
Monie and I had a short ride of our own out to Dogs place to feed his little kitties, where we got a very warm reception from the cute little fluff balls
Nice ride apart from the new road serface that they always seem to neglect sweeping. Got to the 100 ks sign to say the road works were finished so I began stretching the concours legs only to find they had put the signs up a little early and there was still heaps of pee metal all over the next corner. Needless to say I needed a change of undies when i got home. thankfully Monie saw me brake and realised what happened and proceeded to cruise round the said corner like an old pro

Then WSBK from Assen to watch on DVD intime for this Sundays round. Inbetween that we have to watch the Shanghai MotoGP and 250's races from last weekend.
in between we will do the work on the house, then go for a blat while the dvd player cools off.
Oh yeah... and make Cowboyz screen logos for his bike as well as tag up a helmet for Paulie

Shit when will you have time to breath??? I am looking forward to a quiet week at home. Was hopefully for a ride but weather isnt looking the best.
And need to get new winter gloves, of which Paulie has found for me, but thinks I am fussy.........who me never..........its a chick thing

Are you for real yod??? If so, Coooooool!
It's a bugger you didn't get one with a black frame. Then I'd have something to practice painting before I do mine.

Awesome bike there YOD. I hope you pointed out to the owner that only half of the tail light is working. You can actually see some bits rattling around in there.
And technically your not allowed to post on here until you actually own a bike!

well, much as i'd like one, no, just having some fun with my plate on sarahs bike....had ya going there for a sec
i DID get to take it for a good spin this arvo:scooter:, bloody GREAT to be back on a bike....it's been 4 weeks today since i ditched the RF and i was starting to go stir crazy, also got to road test the new helmet and gloves....all good there....and the knee and shoulders felt good too, probably not up to a long haul yet, but no problems controlling the bike
nice machine, easy to move on the road, surprisingly difficult to keep it to legal speeds tho!
and by the way Garry, i still have the ownership papers for the RF until it goes at tender:bleh:

Spent the day with the lovely wifey. We were down the servo and monamie showed up, chatting to her for a bit and monnie, sarah and gsvr showed up. Decided it was a girls day out so we went and did other things. How did the daytona end up in your garage?

Was a great ride but would not have suited you or Al as there wheren't any smoke breaks. Only downside of the ride was when we stopped for coffee. All the ladies could talk about was some guy called Lance.

Ended up a little late after a bit of rain between Feilding and Ashurst. No one round so planned to hit McD's in Palmy then the track and back to McD's a few times.
Ran into Gary on the way through Palmy so we rode together to McD's, I ate, he watched. Was demonstrating the armies rapid refuling technique to him but then ever got to taste the damn burgers!
Headed to the track and passed 2 Triumph Daytonas behind massey trying to sneak home. Soon, they were convinced to join us and we all headed to the track.
Semi wet road on the way up and I ended up chattering the rear into the 25k switchback up the track. Thought nothing of it at the time but we discovered at the first stop that I had taken the last of the rears rubber off in a couple of patches and was exposing belts! Only 70kms earlier I had tread there... not much but some, atleast a hint of tread anyway.:shit:
Should have eased off on the rear but.... young and dumb... I didn't.
We ended up at Paihiatua, then out the back of someplace that ended at a school. Awesome road.:Punk:
Scared the crap out of all of us as we all found some gravel on some tight drop away turns. After Al's compulsory smoke stop at the school we had to nail it to reel in Sarah and her Blue blooded Truimph, who had gone on ahead which we forgot about, before she reached Eketahuna... we failed.:nono:
Cafe stop by a fire with a couple of the customers trying to guess which was Sarahs bike. They did choose the 400, they definitely did't consider the 955... the chose the obvious choice... the SV:2thumbsup
Headed back to balance road then the track. Road had a wet surface for the last couple of K's before the climb proper and after blasting past Al and Gary the rear tyre finally bit back. Seems the wet plus the white lines plus the 2 shiny strips of metal that passed as my GPRA10's centre section didnt get on so well. After getting the rear to follow the front again and not try to overtake it I eased off, waved the real riders through, and followed them over the hill.:nono:
Coming down wasn't so bad and, after riding the Jadedblade more like my MX bikes, relying on the front end and letting the back do what ever it wanted, I got down the hill with a smile still. Was hard to push aside the images of Pro riders like MotoGP's Jorge "X-Fuera" Lorenzo highsiding at Shanghai last weekend though...
At the bottom of the track we all promised to do it again and soon, and parted ways for home. Al following a miss firing 955, gary commenting how the day started as a distaster with no one showing and ended pretty well, and me babying the bike into the rain and home, with a pitstop at Coyboyz for the loo.

You may not even need a Dyno run if you could find a map for your exhaust ,will have a look for you if ya like (maps for the pc3) as long as you can find one that match your bike mods, it will be just a case of downloading and putting it onto the pc.

You'll enjoy it for sure, just think about what you want the bike to do for you, if it's short distances only then a motard would be a heap of fun, but not out on the open road i'd expect, I think it would get old pretty fast.

Yea has been hard trying to consider all those things thats why im going to take it out for a good couple of hours and try to see how it feels when i have a soar arse and wether it does get old fast as you said (which i know i quite
often get taken in by the whole "its a new bike/its so great " feeling and make impulse decisions etc)
thought it had a hard seat wen i was on it in the
dealership, but if i do get it (chances are fairly high,as im fairly set in my way) then i will be looking at options with keeping the katana for longer rides, sounds like people are saying it really needed to be a 600cc engine.

yea looked at them on trade me ,Thier was a bloody nice one on their about a week ago with twin high rise pipes etc and they go for the round about rice of the drz400 new so that could be an option as i would like a bike with a bit of get up and go to it.They seem like a very quick bike tho apparently :scooter:
