you might want to try the 4 points tour first. Same idea as the southern cross but just the north island and you have 3 weeks to do it not 1 and there are no set times for the checkpoints.

In saying that the last 2 meanie and I have done in 2 weekends and last year we even took a honda along for the ride!

One for the Concours rider's among us, just saw on the MCN site where Kawasaki might have a infared heat signature display on the next Concours, if you're interested best go have a look see for ya self rather than me farkin' up the explanation of it, bottom line is early warning system for night riding as the bike can pick up and display any significant sources of heat (people, vehicles, livestock...) up to around 300 metres away ie: further then headlights can reach.
Mercedes Benz has had the tech for a while, kudos to Kawasaki for picking it up on the motorcycling front.

And THAT dear Chanceyy is PRECISELY the reason I'd consider using a set. I like my nuts on the outside not mashed up or pushed back inside.
Seriously though, it would give me piece of mind that the pillion has somewhere solid to grasp thats not my stainless steel waist and thus, not get distracted practicing braille as seems to have been the case with 2 of the 3 I've pillioned.
Having someone on the back you like takes away your focus AND the bike doesn't respond the same when I'm being pushed and pulled around in the seat. These things bolted to the tank filler would give the pillion something more solid to hold onto and make them flow with the bike more.

Wouldn't it?

Yeah quite possibly I guess but I myself, personally would'nt be bolting that to my filler cap. Get a ventura set up with the optional grab rail, not to mention all the other options that then give you for luggage should you so desire.

Just heard a couple that made me laugh

A woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she had stayed by his bedside every single day.

One day, when he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer.

As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, 'You know what? 'You have been with me all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business failed, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side.

When we lost the house, you stayed right here. When my health started failing, you were still by my side... You know what?'

'What dear?' she gently asked, smiling as her heart filled with warmth.

'I think you're bad luck... Get the fuck away from me'

A cruise on the Pacific goes all wrong, the ship sinks, and there are only 3 Survivors; Damian, Darren and Deirdre.

They manage to swim to a small island and they lived there for a couple of years, doing what's natural for men and women to do.

After several years of casual s*x, all the time, Deirdre felt absolutely horrible about what she was doing.

She felt having s*x with both Damian and Darren was so bad that she killed herself.

It was tragic but Damian and Darren managed to get through it and, after a while, nature once more took its inevitable course.

Well, a couple more years went by, and Damian and Darren began to feel absolutely horrible about what they were doing.

So they buried Deirdre.

Having someone on the back you like takes away your focus AND the bike doesn't respond the same when I'm being pushed and pulled around in the seat. These things bolted to the tank filler would give the pillion something more solid to hold onto and make them flow with the bike more.

Wouldn't it?

from what I seen on that race bike you would need a pillion with quite long arms, as they will be laying on your back to reach the bars .. grab rail behind will be easier to hold on to & stop them pushing into you. guess its a bit harder when they are sitting like a grasshopper perched on the back .. on BB the more sitting postition means you rarely have to hold on ...

robertydog
23rd March 2009, 08:13
only seen this on Brian Bernards bike when he was giving pillion rides around manfeild gave the riders opportunity to hang on to the bars rather than push his testicles into the tank :D

Just for you

yod
23rd March 2009, 09:47
Yeah quite possibly I guess but I myself, personally would'nt be bolting that to my filler cap. Get a ventura set up with the optional grab rail, not to mention all the other options that then give you for luggage should you so desire.

yeah I don't know if I'd want that sort of (potential) stress going onto the top of the tank...I doubt it's really designed for it

Very busy day at the GLC today. Met the Duck01, Chanceyy, and Mr and Mrs Ynot for coffee and Tiger talk, then Chanceyy and I had a most enjoyable scoot over to the Hidden Valley for lunch with Mr and Mrs Sugilite. Real pleasant ride and catch up that

Got myself that whisper kit, much warmer and quieter!

Met a bunch of visiting Indonesian harley Riders at ANZA, seems one of them had burnt out the clutch on a 10K machine. They had a support bus along for the trip, maybe he'd tried to tow it?

Thanks for your comments all  And Meanie, even I had to admit that was a good one (bastad) :Pokey: :devil2:

20G Bren, thank god for insurance!

Well, I set off just after 9 heading to Wanga's via Fordell. I passed tha 160 km mark on the way there so was able to go to 5000 rpm. That equates to approx 129 kph. Through Fordell and the factory suspension settings were really showing their limitations so it was a quick stop up the river to set them harder.

This made a world of difference and I had a great run through the Para's to the Feilds Track turnoff. First time I've done it in this direction and really enjoyed the difference. Stopped at the top for a quick pic then headed down the hill and over the bridge.

Came across a farmer who flagged me down saying a cattle beast had fallen off a truck and was pretty wound up. It had been attacking vehicles so bugger that I thought, I'm heading back.

So back down to the Para's it was and continued at a slighty more rapid pace.

Shortly it began precipitating quite heavily so a stop at National Park to don the wets.

Another pic at the Turangi lookout and then into town for lunch. Had a quick check on my place, looks very nice apart from the lawns.

At the Shell Turangi there was an ad for ACC which said "If it's wet and slippery, take it easy" :gob: What has become of this country, think of the children :blank:

Gas up and hit the Desert Rd. More rain, but all clear by Waiouru

Hit 480 kms by Taihape, 6000 rpm. 158 kph I would imagine

Vinegar Hill was awesome as usual and into town for an OJ and stretch.

For some reason, this bike is even sweeter than the last one. Maybe it's because it hasn't had all it's skirts tinkered around with before it even got out of the shop or something, but it sure goes well

I'm mindful of those plush suspension 'qualities' of course and will be keeping a close eye on them.

600 kms on the clock, 200 to go. No worries.

Fitted the topbox mounting bracket first thing this morning. Had a small 'moment' when a couple of parts differed eeeeever so slightly between last years and this years model :sweatdrop No worries tho, it was all cosmetic.

Thought I'd better run off that 200 odd kms before the first service tomorrow so into it it was after work.

Basically did the same route as Sunday's ride. Nice run, nothing to note except encountering more mad cows. Seem to be prevalent this time of year.

Back over the track, out to Rongotea, Feilding, and home. 792 km's. Perfect

Seeing as we may encounter some chilly times :cold: I've just fitted the hand guards - nice. Looks like a serious tourer now!

When you get your bike up and running you'll have to start checking out some of the roads in the north, I promise you we have plenty of our own good roads, just seems at times grass is greener over the other side as locally most the decent sealed roads have been done to death and any decent new road you travel is like finding gold.
I will say it seems by what i've been told the roads are in better condition down south, perhaps because there is more traffic up here.. dunno, but the point being there is there are some gems of back roads..

This is very true. There are some awesome bike roads in the North Is. In fact there are probably a higher number than the South. The South has less traffic generally, but more campervans on the best bits. The views can be more interesting in the South. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery.
