Tell them it's a business necessity and ring all the other providers - yeah I know Telecom own most of the tech but the other companies are Telecoms biggest customers...

May be I'll hold my breath, they told me it will connected 2 days after we move in, but can't get some of the other "add ons" because the exchange is too old and there is a $63 connection fee for having the phone connected, I said, well I suppose telecom need it, the profit last year was only about 1 billion dollars, and the service you get!!!!:shutup:

I can tell you now if the vodafone network over there was better, they may have a new or better / bigger customer.

Still don't know why they don't push a whopping great culvert through the slip and leave all the crap on top.

You're thinking too small, just get a bunch of convicts, give em pick axes, chain gang a tunnel through the range just south of the gorge. Get the fuckers to find and return my laptop while they're at it.

Trouble with the culvert approach, is there's crap on top, and probably crap underneath, big rain could shift the lot. Wonder where the road etc has all got to, my money is on it not being anywhere near where it should be, if it's found at all.

I like it - especially the use of convicts. That way they could work on it 24/7 regardless of weather. Only problem would be possibly losing some valuable pick axes if there was another slip...

Nah pick axes are pretty hardy, just send in more convicts to dig the equipment out.

The other option is robots, but they deserve a bit more respect and better working conditions, so I think convicts are a better option.

Dear Tararua Infracon, there seems to be some confusion as to the meaning of 'road works' signage. I understand you have very few engineers on staff, so I'll be happy to correct this misunderstanding, for free.
You seem to be using these signs to proclaim that the road is working, and any appearance to the contrary should be ignored. Giant potholes? no, no, they're fine, the road works, can't you read? 3km stretch of gravel road containing aforementioned potholes that has been unchanged for months? That's fine too, we put signs up at the beginning informing all road users that the road does work.
Unfortunately that is not how 'road works' signs should be used, instead, they let motorists know that the road is being worked on, and to watch out for moving machinery and people. I know this sounds like a novel concept, to actually do some work, and improve the roads; but sometimes novel concepts are pretty effective.
I don't like to tell others how to do their jobs, but I think the rearrangement of my spleen and pancreas has affected my thinking a little. Hell, after the bumps experienced, I wouldn't be surprised if my spleen had swapped places with my brain.
I also realise that Rome wasn't built in a day, and these things take time; but lets face it, if you guys were contracted to build Rome, we would still be waiting.
Speaking of which, you have received the updated road building techniques? We no longer just need cobblestones for horse drawn carriages. In fact, cars (or horseless carriages) are now capable of over 100kmhr, and require asphalt (look it up) for a smooth and safe ride.

Yours sincerely,
a 'steel horse' bound road user

Yeh, when I see bikes kitted out like that, all I can think is 'for this to a be a solution there's something gone wrong with the design process and/or intended application' I just don't get the need for all that instrumentation, and why that there isn't something that can do all of it in one device.

A bit tricky when you're doing the kind of miles these guys are:

Route planning is the key. I have a copy of "Hard Miles 2" if anyone wants to check it out.

I do it all oldschool, road trip = petrol, tools, canned food and crossed fingers (plus lots of tobacco) :niceone:

New tyres tomorrow - got a fairly sharp price on the BT023s from City Honda. It remains to be seen how far they'll last but as long as it's around 8-9000 they'll still be as good value as the last two sets of PR2's I've run.

I asked about whether the GT version was worth it but apparently they're "really only for the heavy bikes like a Concours or ST1300" :bleh:

What I can't fathom about said roadworks is why they were doing anything there at all, I have been travelling through there on a regular basis and for the life of me I can't recall anything at all being wrong with the road in the first place, not only that the repairs themselves are substandard with piss poor sealing job done on it. And why didn't they use bitumix like it is there rather than coarse chip our the so called repair, below average Higgins...

I actually rode my Kawasaki this weekend.
Got angry at it in boring straight lines.
Fell in love again on the Pahiatua Track
Hated it again from there to Bunnythorpe.
I think it broke my spine. And the speedo, again. And a fork seal has let go. And the side stand wound a bolt out. And my indicator flasher blew.

I love this heap of crap!
