I've spent the last few days hunting a dodgy wire and playing electrician. A really fucking useless electrician to be precise.

Turned out to be loose spade connection in the ignition plug and nothing that a metre of heatshrink/conduit won't fix:sweatdrop

I'll have another look tonight and may end up jumping power from another ignition source to get me over the holidays. Otherwise ignition will have to be removed and that will be a hell mission.

sounds a bit like an issue i had with the vt, had to wiggle the key just back a bit from on to get it to run, then watch out for bumps cos it'd turn off if a big enough one was hit

was just the contacts at the bottom of the ignition lock barrel, take apart, clean, back together, add some tape, good as new. Which is to say, offering fuck all protection against hot-wiring. I'd imagine your S3 would be way more difficult, possibly even a 3-beer job :apint:

Tickets are $30
Qualifying starts at 8am, first race 11am
dont know about organised ride as we are taking the cage, but if you want secure parking for bike, right turn at first roundabout after bridge, and on the right is Farmlands and they always do secure parking for bike and gear.

depends on how much better it flows, if there isn't much difference you'll be all good, and on some newer bikes the 02 sensor is enough to compensate for small changes anyway, but if you get significant performance gains it may need a remap (to gain even more :D)

The little grooves are to help with the bedding in of the tyre when its new. The more grooves the more the tread blocks moves, thus creating quicker heat up in the first inital heat cycles of the tyre (words from my knowledgable partner )

yeh that would be an absolute coont to remember  But what you really need is some sorta fandangled highly directional light or somesuch, which actually obscures the bottom of the L, sufficiently hidden and sneakily done so anyone who gets a closer look once you are stopped or slowed just sees the stock plate and figures they were mistaken with their earlier observation. I mean that's probly what an engineer of significant skill would do if they ever planned on committing such misdirection, for the purposes of avoiding rego fines or tolls :innocent:

New Downhill jump track is insane!

Everyone survived cliff diving at MacLearns Falls. Nikita suprised us by jumping next to us and Alexis' leg and butt bruising is fading slowly from her epic dive from under the bridge, but the ceowd loved it!

Straight swap for the CBeige with a mate :niceone: It is on the small side, but, they are fairly cheap to run. It will go a bit better than my parents 1.8L 4 on the floor Holux. It'll do the job, needs some TLC, has a gaaaaay Harlequin wellside on it and the deck's been chopped for a C-notched ute. Easy enough to remedy though!
Pretty stoked with the whole idea as it runs very nice and has the LSD and power steering (Such luxuries, how exuberant!) and the CB did only cost me $1300 plus the tyre and the brakes, so still only $1600 or thereabouts :bleh: That's a cheap 92 Holux!

Was anybody out at Manfield on Saturday? I popped out there after lunch and had a perv at all the cool people actually on the track, including a cute Bros650 with pink rims.... :niceone: Then had to rock up a few hundred KM to scrub the new tyre in :devil2: and a quick ride over the saddle, Pahiatua track (twice) just to confirm the tyre worked today. It works nicely.
So another 7 or 8 hundred on the wee torqueless toy this weekend :second:
The SportDemon cost $180.20 fitted, which I was very happy with.

Good to see the gixxer semfiddy is getting some Km on it!

Not sure :weird: Possibly from the amazing power, the forward thrust has bent the rim. I think it's from where the last chap threw it down the tarmac. Only took 5gm to balance anyway.

Bloody brake dust eh, gotta polish em every week if you wanna keep that shit off. Went to wax my chain the other day and though the wheel looked a little darker than the front, sure enough, smudged off a bit of grime and back to normal color! Dunno wtf it came from either, too much for brake dust, maybe exhaust carbon though, it does have a few holes...

The rear had it's first semi-decent clean when it had to come off due to a friendly screw. And I have to say, really easy to remove and refit. Only had to remove axle, only one spacer to worry about and the caliper carrier has a nifty groove in it that runs on a raised section on the swingarm so it can be pushed aside easy but does not have to be unbolted - nice one Honda! Even an ape like me can do the job in literally a few minutes...

It's now back in shape, carbs are clean and I'm waiting on jets, then I will re-check the floats and re-assemble and thrash...I mean test it.
The factory jets are 95s on cyls 1 & 4 and 98 on 2 & 3, I've ordered some 100s and 102s, I'll run the 98s in 1 and 4 and 100s in 2 and 3 to see how happy it is, if not enough I will go the next step up. :niceone: :third:

interesting, I doubt their 50% claim, but it could be more efficient than standard. And this design certainly looks less complex that other designs claimed to be more efficient than the otto cycle, so maybe it has a chance. It is very similar to a supercharged two stroke, a design I've always liked.

I thought that there's a lot of stuff going around and around and a few more valves etc. Like the regenerative braking stuff (cool gaining something from waste energy) - bet it's got pretty good engine braking...

In the video there's only 2 cylinders making the power with two compressing the charge. Is it actually making the same (or more) power as a normal 4 cylinder with the same capacity? I may be simple but I'm struggling with that bit...

bogan
25th January 2011, 19:06
yeh, not sure how effective the regen braking would be, depend on how heavy an air tank you need to haul around. There are flywheel kits out there that are relatively bolt on, and manage to store around 60hp for 30 secs and only 50kg or something...

yeh would be the same (or close to it) as a 4cyl, as the power pistons are firing twice as often, and compression ones not at all, so same firing per revolution.

banditrider
25th January 2011, 19:16
Ah, that's what I missed - the firing twice as often bit.

Yeah, I see that Porsche have come up with a racer with a flywheel powering a couple 'letric motors - from memory an extra 200hp for 5 - 10secs after hard braking. Wait, here's a linkee:

http://www.futurecars.com/future-cars/hybrid-cars/porsche-911-gt3-r-hybrid-flywheel-formula

bogan
25th January 2011, 19:38
using the flywheel like that sounds like a bloody good idea. There another car that does similar (may be the civic hybrid) and an added benefit is that it acts as the starter motor as well.

I use milson metals, tremain ave near the hospital. They won't have the proper MC flange bolts, but cap screws are just as good (higher tensile strength too) just get zinc plated ones so they don't rust.

The length has to be right as the bolt on the bike is secured at the end with a cap and not a nut. Sorry but what is a MC flange bolt?

hmmm, could be difficult if it's not a standard length (multiples of 5mm generally), motorcycle flange bolt, normal bolts don't have the round bit between the hex head, and bolt shaft, looks fugly if you use a normal instead of flange on a bike.

Wana do some ugly welding for me haha I've never done stainless.
The current tyre is a higher than standard profile, it's put the gearing all up the duff, doing 1500 ish rpm lower at 100km, I need all the revs I can get on it... plus 4th gets it just past 190 (eventually) which is just stupid.

That's a, pretty epic burnout!!!!!
I've got the 100/102 jets in at the moment, it's pulling like "snot" up the top, but at partial throttle eg 100km/h it's boggin down. I'm going to lower the fuel level and see if that helps at all. :niceone: Taking the carbs off is not an easy job on this stupid thing. It was running good on the 98/100 jets, but, would back fire at high revs off the gas, so now it's running rich enough, but too rich in pastial throttle etc and I can lower the needles....I think...
Off to the garage again.

EDIT: Was poking around (Giggity) with a torch and the carb to air box rubbers weren't sitting correctly, so a bit of coarse language, spit, a huge hammer and silicon spray and they slid on eventually, took it out to the gas station and then gave it a thrash for a few Km and no problems yet.
