There is a thread started by Slydesigns somewhere here on KB about this but here goes, Sly was proposing a get together Monday nights after the original screening of the weekends race of the WSBK, nice but I propose a slight variation this Sunday as it will be live on Sky sport 2 from 1:30 pm onward apparently, for the races the are screened live at sociable hours why not view them then and for those that are'nt view the on the Monday night as proposed by Sly, there are'nt that many races during the season screened live that are during sociable hours so it would'nt eat into Sly's idea to much. I would have posted this in his thread but i'm running short on time to go searching for his thread. In short i'll be seeing if the Ashhurst Inn will screen the races live this Sunday at least as I can't make Monday nights anyway.

Depending on what time you are thinking of leaving I will be keen, have a couple of jobs to do in the morning before I head to Manfield. Will see Pauly off in the car with the refreshments, then possibly ride over. Flick me a text on Saturday morning, and I will let you know how I am placed.

im back from the best 3 days ever,
the california superbike school on thursday was fantastic. they spend 20 minutes in the classroom teaching you one thing like throttle control, counter steering, turn entry points etc then you spend 20 minutes on the track practicing that one thing while your ride coach (who you have to share with 2 others) follows you around, and if you dont quite have it rite, he passes you and gives the signal to follow him and he shows you how its done, then he follows you again and so on. then you have a 20 minute break then start over with the next lesson.
the track at hampton downs is awesome, the down hill bits rock and the whole track has a real nice flow to it. apparently if you go fast enough onto the short home straight, you can catch some air. but i wasn't going fast enough
the second lesson was turn entry points, and they were good enough to go out and put big white crosses on the track where the good entry points are. made life sooo much easer.
friday at taupo track 5 with motott was ok. the track was a little bit crowed at times but it was still a good day. there were a few offs but i don't think any were too serious. at times i was missing them big white crosses that they gave us at hampton.
Saturday at taupo track 1 with pmcc was way better. i went out in the slow group and made sure i was at the front of the dummy grid, then i basically had the track to myself apart from the really slow riders that i lapped but they were a cinch to pass. the only downer was the 1 hour between 15 minute sessions. thew were 5 groups.... slow, med, fast, race and super kart WTF!!! ther were two karts there and they had there own sessions that slowed the day right down for everyone.
so in all, a fms few days. only clocked up 2000 kms on the bike, but im shattered!!!!

The reason for PMCC to have the karts is that they pay to be there and it helps keeps the cost down for everyone. They had them at Manfield as well, last round.
Yes it was disappointing that only 4 karts were there. But all in all a good weekend. Everyone behaved except for a rather big crash on Sunday during the Clubmans/Pro Twin Open class.

Found out this weekend it pays to have a wee fiddle round engine parts whenever you got it apart, did a top end rebuild on the CR and powervalves looked like they was open, which is odd, cos they should only open at low revs, started it with a cover off and reved it up, bloody thing just about shot out of the side of the barrel. Tore it down again and found the last owner hadn't located the actuator bit before tightening it up, so it was spinning freely.
Fixing it made a fucking big difference in the mid range though, way faster round the track, and wheelstands before powerband :D even managing to shift up when on the back wheel now. Also did the exhaust baffles so she sounds mint too.

Shes now seriously looking at an MV Agusta F4. Test riding shortly.
Big thankyou to Diana at Cardross mining for shattering her wrist at MX and having to give up her R6 and to Jon and team at Steve Hunt Yamaha for getting in the parts I needed to mod the bike (wheelie sprocket etc) and arranging the tools and workshop space for me to fit the parts.

ok im stuck with a problem........
ive been given this army o-day study package and i need to be able to identify ranks via the symbol.....
is there any easy ways to remember these?
slydesigns
18th April 2010, 19:33
your kidding...
Dude... they are super simple
1 stripe = Lance Corporal/Lance Bombardier (if a gunner - Artillery)
2 Stripes = Corporal/ Bombardier
3 Stripes = Sergeant - you should know this one from all the war mobvies about
3 stripes and a crown = Staff Sergeant - Staff for short
Large crown with a laurel round it worn in the lower sleeve or wrist = Warrant Officer Class 2 aka Sgt Major [ "Sarmajor" for short}. PWF for workshops, CSM for Companies etc
NZ Coat of arms, worn as for WO2 = Warrant Officer Class 1 - Sir also know as God, Satin and the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse etc. In charge of kicking your ass the hardest. This one you will NEVER forget. Called an RSM usually
One "pip" (star thing on the shoulder) = 2nd Lieutenant - basically a qualified new recruit officer - baby officer, Platoon Commander
2 pips = Lieutenant - Start taking him or her seriously even though he/she is pretty young still. Platoon commander, Ammo Tech officer etc
3 pips = Captain, Adjutants, Campany 2IC etc
Crown = Major, Company Commander, Chief Ammuntion Technical Officer etc
Crown and Pip - Lt Colonel = Unti commander, Camp Commander, the RSM is his righthand man with a big stick.
then you get staff officers like Colonels, Brigidares, Major Generals and the Lt General - Chief of Army
http://www.army.mil.nz/our-army/structure/ranks/default.htm
click the link, print it out and paste it on your wall and above your bed... you'll get nailed for getting rank wrong. AND NEVER call an NCO other than a WO1, SIR!!! We HATE THAT!!! We work for a living, officers dont... much
if you want a hand with stuff yell out, for real

no... thats US rank... you'll get confused. Last week Maria approached a guy at Lavarack Barrack in Oz. I thought it odd he had an entourage trailing him and then saw the Pace stick and OZ Crest on his wrist but got to her too late to stop her introducing me to him!
Turns out he was the RSM of the OZ Army!
Maria wants me to re enlist in the IEDD teams over there and they pretty keen to have another AT in the ranks but I didn't enjoy talking to the OZ Armies god of pain and justice!

Sheesh! On that, don't be too surprised to see the Volkswagen group buy a motorcycle company sometime in the future. Dr Ferdinand Piech likes motorbikes and the Volkswagen group could pretty much afford just about any motorcycle company it wanted to buy, they have already bought a pretty heavy stake in Suzuki which includes the motorcycle division. The good Doctor is a Ducati freak it would seem and would dearly love to add a motorcycle division to the group.
