I'm hoping it will....But, just to be extra sure, I'm going over the clearances again tomorrow, doing the cams/timing is a piece of piss on it thankfully  so if I have made any mistakes I can rip it all back out fairly fast, it really is quite nice to work on!
I think I'll clean the tank out too.
Yeah, take the SuperSheep charger back
Good good look forward to seeing it, need to get out for a ride in the not too distant future.

If I have to order a battery, I may consider being a guinea pig for a Shorai battery. Not cheap, but I like the idea of not charging, serious grunt and saving about 3kg in weight.

I just ordered mine off a trademe chap (Morrinsville I think), $90 including shipping....all good, and the best part about that price is not being concerned about getting a new battery every 3-5 years. Honda quoted me $285 for the Yuasa! :motu:

Got the clearances all spot on now, timing done (Which is disgustingly easy! This Kawasaki was made to be fixed) cranked it over without the coils to get oil pressure etc, put it all back together and it wasn't pulling petrol through again
Cleaned carbs, checked the floats again, which obviously were all mint still, put it back together. Still didn't start, plugs wet this time. So I left the plugs out to dry last night as I went to Dannevirke to get mullocked. Shall have another go at it today

is how to build (http://motorcyclephilippines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139779) but reckon it'd be cheaper to go with a proper one, probably less likely to overheat too. Pretty simple devices and I think you'd get away with running a 7 wire one if they are more common.

Does look like a prick to make  This one isn't the original anyway, I imagine the foam on the inside of the fairing wasn't helping as it was resting on the heat sink, so have cut that out.
Will hunt around for a cheap 6-7 wire one.
I could just leave one of the outputs dead on a 7 wire couldn't I?
Edit: What if I ran a separate rectifier through to a shunt reg? That would work wouldn't it?

not sure if that ebay one will be good for the power of a roadbike, think they use SCRs cos it's way cheaper than trying to find a shunt capable of over a hundred watts. Foam on heatsink never a good idea  if you get a 7 wire one just short two outputs together is probably better for it.

Voltage should all be the same I would expect, but a high rpm IL4 may have a bit more current draw on the coils and CDI, not too sure though.

The CDI shouldn't draw much current to my knowledge and the coils will be pulling 8A I think, it's been far too long since I actually had to think about these things  at $20 I can't complain too much if it fucks out, the voltage gauge i've got on the ZZR will warn me if it goes before I burn loom and boil battery. That's how I caught the bloody thing today thank goodness.
I'm just wondering, with the 16.6 or so volts at low RPM getting through, there must have been a lot up top, the coils wouldn't be able to cope would they? Hence why the BRM V16 had to run 6V coils, due to 12V taking too long to make a decent flux. That's how i recall it anyway... So I doubt it helped much...
The battery is still fine and hasn't gotten hot enough to lose any electrolyte  So will get a new Reg init and pop around to steal that voltage gauge :woohoo:
sounds like a plan, dunno about possible coil damage, the CDI would be more of a worry anyway I think, but if it is still good, the rest should be too I reckon.

I'm having a stroll through www.reuk.co.uk and they have a few schematics and info on how to build shunts. But, it would cost me more to make a shunt with a bridge rectifier than it would to buy a shitty reg/rec  I'd like to do it though, it looks fun, plus it could be mounted in a box with a fan

As in switching the alternator on/off? there have been cases where electro-magnets have been used and they just switch on/off when needed  Quite ideal really, that way the stupid regulator is going to last longer. Perhaps way of killing the input to the regulator without sending the 45V straight to the battery?
This could be interesting to do

No switching adaptor switch the supply (hundred thousand times a second or more) through an inductor which generates a set output voltage regardless of the input voltage. Though my stator theory is somewhat lacking and I'm not sure of that would be kind to the stator, there may be a reason it is used as a constant power generator.

Buuuuut, it was one of those rides, the sore wrists and arse could not dent the perfect ride feeling! I was part of the bike, flowing and smiling like a mad c*nt. It was absolutely brilliant, haven't fel so happy and comfortable on that bike before.
On a boring note, I am going to re bleed the brakes tomorrow to try stop them from being wooden, there is nigh on zero indication of a front end lock up
Such an awesome ride! Might do it again if the weather is so great tomorrow.

I wrote this up earlier today and put it on my BookFace, pointless as more people here will appreciate it and understand.
Gassed the bike up after uni today and went for a great ride. Put what I had read in "Twist of the wrist II" into practice.... And what do you know? Smoother, more stable and faster riding. Less stress on the arms, wrists and mind.
Found a few survival reactions were stronger than I thought. Using the throttle to manipulate the weight bias on a bike is just brilliant, what a massive difference it makes.I was having problems with front end feel and confidence. This was too much weight on the front end, backing off the throttle into the apex was making the Honda run wide, which triggers the reaction of tightening the arms and weighting the bars, this sets the bike of it's natural balance and the front looses feel and goes even wider. By being relaxed and having all my weight anchored against the outside of the tank in a corner the bar weight is reduced and the wheel/tyre/suspension are free too oscillate and move as they need to.
If you ride and haven't read the books, get off your arse and do it (I have number two in PDF form and can email to anyone)
Looking forward to getting even smoother and more confident.
Part Two!
I went out this evening just to carry my grin inducing euphoric moment further again, ended up doing 340km :woohoo: Just riding, the bike and myself, happy as that twat Larry. I kept practising the throttle control, sliding my arse off the seat BEFORE I drop the bike in, not during ( No wonder the fuckin' thing hated me...) and generally trying to start the process of obliterating 160,000km (I think, may be more? I've just clocked up 10,000k on the CB as of today) of dumb fuck mistakes and habits.
I am fairly confident my body positioning is correct, not twisted away from the bike, either up or down.
The bike is feeling so much nicer to ride, I did the tyre pressures as per norm today, only 1psi out each end, not a worry!
As I type this I am not worn out, I've got all my "I am Rossi, watch me break my pelvis and get nerve damage" business going on and the semi numb, semi tingly fingers. But mentally, I didn't get worn out and I did not once pump my arms up.
My shutting the throttle instinct got me once and in comparison it felt wobbly and wanted to run wide, usually I'd stiffen up (Tehehehe), but I made myself stay relaxed and gently roll on, then I could tighten the line and carry on.
Fuck I can ramble....I want more rides! I am off to Eketahuna on Sunday so I can look forward to that. If you read all this you must be bonkers.:innocent:

actually bunnings is in use often as, the massey one is probly a better bet, can just go with the camber to be on the safe side I guess.

hmmm, it doesn't specifically state either of the later two, but we gotta use something for cones right?

I suppose Bunnings is a bit busy, the lack of light in the evenings is the problem methinks.
Massey may be the plan  Let's hope I can work on low speed stability, I want to be able to confidently drop the bike on it's ear at low speed, I think I tense my arms too much.

My thoughts exactly! Plus we need to work on our abilities to not be distracted.

I found when I last did this sorta thing with Mowgli and RoadKing theres kind of a point where it still feels like normal, but shit steering, then push past that to tip it over heaps and feels a bit more like off road styles. We just did the BHS test slalom and quick stops. Could go with full lock u-turn pratice too, used to do them on my 250, but bros's extra chain slack adds a bit of challenge.

Indeed, though I may need to bring a spare brake lever if I can't cope

Yeah, I'll have to get over the idea of the bike falling over and put it into a semi-low speed turn or circle. Will help for the hairpins, I'm not so brilliant through the tight one on this side of the track, I used to get the GN and BROS on the pegs with the knee touching very once in a while, but since I splatted the BROS I haven't been able to grow the nuts.
Indeed, though I may need to bring a spare brake lever if I can't cope

And now with pics....
I raced a Harley today and after some really hard riding I managed to PASS the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really twisting sections of canyon road with no straight sections to speak of and where most of the curves have warning signs that say "15 MPH".
I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone.
I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and cornering. Three corners later, I was on his fender. Catching him was one thing; passing him would prove to be another.
Two corners later, I pulled up next to him as we sailed down the mountain. I think he was shocked to see me next to him, as I nearly got by him before he could recover. Next corner, same thing. I'd manage to pull up next to him as we started to enter the corners but when we came out he'd get on the throttle and outpower me. His horsepower was almost too much to overcome, but this only made me more determined than ever.
My only hope was to outbrake him. I held off squeezing the lever until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an instant I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before the road straightens out and he would pass me for good.
But now I was in the lead and he would no longer hold me back. I stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the canyon, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see him in my rear-view mirror.
Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred yards. I was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more than horspower and deep pockets, I had passed him. though it was not easy, I had won the race to the bottom of the
canyon and I had preserved the proud tradition of another of America's best bikes.
I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedaled so hard in my life. And some of the credit must go to Schwinn, as well. They really make a great bicycle...

My flatmate wants some, his Toyota Soarer lights aren't as bright as my ZZR one.
I am thinking about it, but, not really bothered for the Honda as I am selling it (Trying to...) may get one for the ZZR as I will be doing many, many miles on her once she's ready.
The headlight is already biblical though, it amazed me. Must have owned too many Hondas? The CB is a candle in the wind, the Bros had the same light.....the Spada had the same light....the twin headlight set up on the Spada was a marginal increase in performance, probably a placebo because I spent so much moolah on them  The GN250 actually absorbed light, honest...

I've heard of this problem  Happened to a chap I know in Masterton, he wasn't pleased.
Went to Marton last night, just to ride for the sake of riding. Was a nice wee tootle :scooter: I found the bike will show just over 190km/h on the limiter in fourth, of course I did this in perfectly controlled conditions, on a race track whilst producing no exhaust emissions.
Will be strolling over to Eketahuna today, I have to give my old man a lift home from Wellington tomorrow.
So sympathise for me as I will be driving a Corolla.....
On the plus side, the ride there and back gives me more time to work on being smooth and getting that throttle control spot on.

got to source some memory foam of gel or something fancy too, it's a low seat atm, so pad it out a bit, then sort the rear sets. Should be mint by summer
I took off the covering on the original bros seat, was a bit pointy round the tank so not easy to put on again, but guess it's easier when you don't need to stitch the vinyl?

Saw a poor sod just binned off his scooter on the way to work this morning, looked like there may have been a car involved but no way of telling who was at fault, probably low/no-speed off from where he was positioned and the intersection involved.

A magical Winter's day and I remember why I bought my Katana. A little chilly so on with the thermals under the kevlar jeans. Sunglasses a must and warm gloves. The bike starts first time and fits like a glove. Purring along on its PR2 tyres it eats up the miles and bends in no time. A nice coffee and kiss for Bev then it's home again. No more cobwebs, adrenaline levels restored. Can't beat the bike
Just with so many things happening over the past few months I haven't been out riding much or caught up with anyone on any rides. Hope to catch up with a few sometime soon.

Painted the timing cover from the 400 nice and pretty in black, will throw it on at some stage. I now have a proper regulator too! It's wired up properly, unlike my strange wiring that's set up fr a Honda one.

Hmmm, just been conversing with R-Dog, kinda sounds like the Gentle Annie might be sorted, apparently the HB council website says it's completed.

Yep, heard the same - although apparently not swept of loose metal (it was like that in places when I went over a couple of months ago too). Shame there's no gravel...

ZZR600 is almost done, waiting for the courier to arrive :scooter: then it's all go. Made some exhaust mounts for the tasty Neptune cans, got some 1 inch wide steel trips from Mitre10.
Oil + coolant will go in this morning while I should really be studying :innocent:
Will try get a picture of the exhausts
Wish me luck with this thing, it's been a bloody mission

I'm hoping she's happy, have the floats all set and carbs all clean.
Knowing my luck it'll burst in to flames and become some sort of demonic beast.

Sound is poo quality.
Things to do;
Exhaust mounts.
Fix the LHS coil, the rubber mounting is gone, which is the rattle in the video.

sounds a bit beige :bleh: better than the cbeige, but still...
Para rubber have a good selection of rubber gromets that will probably be suitable for the coil, kinda weird sizes, but managed to find some to use as fairing mounts.

I've got some bits and bobs floating around to use, but, that may be a better way to go. I'm off for a big as fuck ride when the mounts are done :scooter: Rode it up the driveway and got scared the cans will fall off hahaha Really just wanted to test the clutch, which engages nice, better feeling than the CB

Some guy on the hawk forum did some hardout ones, start of with HAWK-GT lettering then has a tapering off checker pattern after them, looked pretty good.
Actually speaking of rims, saw a pic of some copper plated rims, DO WANT! These ones are too shiny, but you get the idea

Want some red Honda decals? They have gold edging, look pretty sweet. I don't have a Honda to put them on
