To be fair. I didnt actually hit the fence. Just parked up against it. I do recall a fair bit of swearing and wondering where the road went.

I actually really liked that bike. Probably as much as the 9 it was just getting too old and too many little things were costing too much to repair.

im in.

there's an interesting looking road that turns off SH3 just north of mahoenui (about 20km south of piopio) and cuts through to SH4 about halfway between 8mile junction and the ohura turnoff.

it looks sealed all the way and I feel it needs to be investigated.

there's also an interesting looking road that runs from ohura to ahititi
im doubtful if its sealed all the way unfortunately....

If your keen on the overnighter, why don't you go north to south,Awakino gorge and pub there is good for a break,or at Mokau, head inland at Ahititi towards Ohura, and stop at Whanga the night.Next day whilst nursing a full belly and sore head a cruisy ride home, could encompass the Plateau in Stratford, and around to Dawson Falls for good measure, then a blat to Manaia and Surf Highway through Hawera to home.Need to organise rooms at the pub even in winter as shitloads of campervans still inhabit the area.Off hand is $95 per person dinner, bed and brekkie. But with the good clear days you end up with frosts around and odd foggy areas, which no sun get to thaw the frost, carefull if early starts.Check your local info centre they should have a flyer on the Whanga,F/Highway area.Off hand the website could be www.whangamomonahotel.co.nz.

Drains bugger all from battery, was thinking shit they're cheap, compared to 35yr olds I am old so that's my excuse if I buy some.No shame in getting heated grips,in fact it is a sure fire safety idea, insurance companies should recognise them too,if the mits are warm and you have no cramping due to cold, then the concentration levels must be better, thus safer riding. You're old when ya buy a Suzuki.

Carefull about the smugness re knees, mate fell of his bike back in 1986 week before queens birthday, was told he was to young for knee replacement and was only 23,the docs tried different things as the knee would need renewing every 15 yrs or so if replaced before 30 or so.They were happy to do it if he was late 40 or so,he's coming 45this year.Cold days he has a wicked limp till the knee warms up,not good as an electrician in ceilings on knees as well.

You need a 13 mm spanner to undo an M8 bolt.

If a sardine is more than four inches long then technically it's a pilchard.

Excellent day out folks  Glad we got that route sorted out and most things mostly organised. There's some nice roads in there eh! I got to ferry the Bandit to Levin and back :woohoo: Lovely ride it is too, really light and nimble and tons of power. I hardly had to take it out of top the whole way. Leans over quite well too

Yes, I really enjoyed the Bandit  Despite it's engine size it was very light and manoueverable at both low and high speeds. Steers very nicely into corners and it's easy to move around on. There's a very slight engine buzz but it's a big grunty torquey motor and this just added to it's character

Nice to look down and see nice shiney polished engines cases, very cool.

Heated grips - yes!

Has a very sharp looking front mudguard.

Comfortable to ride in the upright position and I liked the rubber mounted footrests, they had a solid kind of 'give' to them and damped road and engine vibration. Only a small scrape too

Really torquey engine, not high revving and doesn't need to be. Gets up to speed real quick without a lot of huffing.

Handled very well two up, had to really, what with keeping up with a certain Dannevirkian - very good fun

Awesome day yesterday, was great to be out on my bike again. After coffee and cake, and fundraising ride discussion, was ready for more, so
went down with Al and Sarge to Levin to collect Sandra. On the way home got left in the wake of their exhaust fumes just after we turn off onto Opiki Road, but didnt worry me as I was having lots of fun on my little 250 ;)

Body feeling abit stiff this morning, shows how a few weeks of short rides makes me unfit for longer ones. But hey if this weather stays this mild for another few weeks it will be great riding weather.

Ok Sarge on account of the fact your alot bigger than me I'll release some of the top secret details.

Might as well be Ashhurst garage as everyone knows where it is and it most central for all riders.

Departure time will be 1.00pm sharp.
Since its a democracy we will vote on a choice of 3 rides:

One is east, one is north, and one is west. Whatever rides get the most votes/support after the election is it.

Sort of like typical Sunday afternoon ride.

Regrouping at regular waypoints and slower riders will be leading the way.

If theres more than ten riders I shall provide a gift to be drawn by lottery.

Etc, etc, etc.

Alas I will be working today, perfect day for it .. you can always ride past where your post will be on the 28th june so your no longer confused :nya:

have a great ride guys

Sounds like the north option to me. The east road heads north.

Was thinking of a Kimbolton stop. Can't really do it on reverse as the suns a killer.

A good quality tyre pressure guage.

Like most of us I have a resonable collection of tools, but my tyre pressure guage was a $2 pencil type thingy, that was old and did not work properly - it got put in the bin when I got home.

Not the heated grips?

And I wouldn't say no to a ZX anything.Saw one in either a bike website or trade me with 85000km,gave it a serious thought about it,how does Mrs Cowboyz like the pillion seat, she is similar height to my lady. There is a ZX6 in NP as well.

not a huge fan to be honest. But over time she has come to become accustomed to it. Things were going quite well until a small turn of the tides and she ended up on the back of the concours for a few ks and that set back the "sportsbikes are great for touring 2up" campaign back a few months.

Yep sometimes we shouldn't encourage em out of the bloody kitchen.

I distinctly remember hearing I'll not be on the back, well new lid, gloves, neckwarmer, boots, jacket and looking at pants later, she is bloody great on the back, never feel her move most of the time.Just confidence thing, both with her to me and vice versa, still gotta start somewhere.

So a compromise maybe to a ZX14,maybe blue.

Yeah i have to slow down too ! Nah They aint the best 2 up bikes H is still feeling it in the legs after doing the grasshopper impersonations for 4 hours yesterday (aww and today lol)

Was planning to come join you guys today, but invited a mate who's just got his bike together after a repaint (and the rest lol) Well that started a mission and a half getting the bike out of his lounge (F....d if i know how they got it up in there) Ended up building him a ramp so he could put it back inside (who does that ?:bye::shit:)later or he wasn't gonna break it out at all lol (too cold, too wet, no money, No ramp ! Fixed him :done:)
Still got out there for a few hours and yep he still wants to ride the FXR like its a sports bike ! Who am i to argue !

Well I was until I had a mishap with the drill:crybaby:, so it's just as well I know how to make defects disappear:yes:.
I'll take it for a run tomorrow night and try out the new fuel map, though it's been so long I've forgotten what the old one was like.
The seat looks good and is way lower than stock, but there's no longer room to carry my puncture repair kit.
