went for a nice ride yesterday... sandon-halcombe road loop followed by a ride int ashhurst to see cowboyz, then a quick ride through the gorge and back over the track!
the only bad part was when i nearly hit a xr8 ute at the crest of a hill through ballance because he was doing a 3 point turn.... i could only just get past him with inches to spare

sweet as, always happy to save a bike from the scrap heap :D had some thoughts on the ride home. Firstly you got well lucky no valves were broken when it was being kicked/towed with the wrong timing :shit:! and I reckon the electrics could use a bit of a tune-up, could well be weak spark stopping it from starting easy, also maybe lube/tighten the throttle cables, that stuff will be easier than pulling the carb to bits again anyway.

yeh I find the problem with carbs is I dunno how to tune em! clean em easy enough (cowboyz already cleaned them though) but I reckon there may be some stale fuel buildup in the jets which could be affecting the mix, trouble with that is you gotta acid bath it off, and trouble with that is the bike shops charge heaps to do it! I reckon it'll be spark anyways though.

Should be interesting fitting zxr forks up, would you use the whole front end? I have been told that the 600f3 front springs and 10 weight fluid [if memory serves correct] will sort the slappy problems. But, I imagine a USD front end will be a massive improvement, in looks too. Twin brakes!
I went in to see that ZXR yesterday, the owner took it off the showroom floor. I'm attempting to contact the owner as he only wanted $3500 and the shop wanted a $500 commision.

Twin brakes are a brilliant aquisition, I thought my bros650 lacked somewhat in the brakes. The spada was even worse. The Bros had braided front and rear lines and I think they make a great difference.

yeh, my electric has twins (not braided lines though), and the bros has a big single with braided lines, so will compare the two, and my CR has a little single but heaps of stopping power and feel, and my VT has the infamously crap honda inboard discs. Though I'll probly replace the brake fluid soon-ish, as they take quite a while to engage on the bros.

Know that feeling, years ago I sold a car,got given a bank cheque, deposited it into my bank on Monday(days of Trust banks, was from Wairarapa and going into my TSB in Naki)so to all intents was inter bank, but when I went to get a TSB cheque to give to dealer,I was told cheque hadn't cleared by the Friday, told teller it was a bank cheque and evan Trust bank one at that, she cleared it for me,but was almost pain in arse.

It's highly annoying at the best of times isn't it?
So whos going to the Cold Duck and whos got spare tent space... sonic?
Decided as its my last 8 weeks in the country as a Resident I had better man up and attend one of these things. Been to the Cold Kiwi twice to do an MX jump demo on the Waiouru track but not actually stayed and gotten drunk or anything.
I'll need guidance and I promise no wheelies or lame attempts at stunt riding that will just embarrass us all. Who's keen to show me the light and maybe babysit me?
yep i'm in same boat cept i cant stay overnight, will ride from palmy on friday and saturday, maybe sunday too. anyone want tp ride with?

HA! What are mates for! Good shit!!! I think you're eligible for F2 (open class) and Clubmans, no points there though. Take off your lights, mirrors and indicators, and anything else that adds weight, drill and lockwire your sump plug to the frame, hoseclip and lockwire the oil filter, no sidestands, and plumb all your breathers and drains into a catch bottle. And get a 1kg fire extinguisher for your pit. Check out what colour numberboards you need and put the race fairings on. Join the club and get a MNZ race licence, fax off your entry form, pay the entry fee and get out there! Oh, and a paddock stand (I think I'll get a new one)

not allowed, you are allowed NA 150s or FA 100s (fours strokes, two smoker regs are harder, and shit cos you cant use mx engines) IIRC. So you need to find a 200cc twin cylinder, and use one cylinder as a supercharger :D

Not bad for a twin though - I doubt it would have revved that hard. Used to have a few magazine articles on it - apparently it ran/exploded...
Also, Merlin V-12's (made in all sorts of capacities etc) made from 850 - 2,000hp. Magnificent motors though - and the best sound ever produced by an engine!

Awesome fun alright Andrew! Any chance of seeing a red VTR out there perhaps
Well, it'd probably be my best option - wouldn't want to scrape the panniers on the Connie.
I'd kinda like to have a go but not sure if could justify the potential costs. I reckon you've got it right riding an old girl - lots of fun riding, reasonably cheap and probably not too complicated maintenance wise. She sure looks cool out on the track doing it's thing!

You could always take the panniers off for the day
Yeah, I'm glad I've got the Gixxer out there, best thing that could happen to it. Seemed a bit of a waste not riding it. Didn't cost much to get her up and running, mainly tyres (PR2's), pads, oil, filter, fluids and a few other bits. You'll be pleased to know that the PR2's are just as awesome on the track as they normally are :niceone:
You could easily get an older bike and get into it, there's a class for everything

I recommend Pilot Road 2's. Outstanding grip all round, hard wearing and very good in the wet. AFC have some pretty good prices on quite a few good brands or try www.cycletreads.co.nz

Ditto mine are great, over 14000km,and no slip tonight(very small one maybe, and was shiny tar and straight road),also try Drury Tyres in Dorkland, seemed to have good prices when I emailed.

Heya, I too certainly agree about the Michelin Pilot road 2's, great tires although i've only ever had them on the rear of the bike, from memory I got 9000 km out of my rear Road 2 but I took it off early, one of the best things about them is they wear evenly, well my rear tyre did anyway and that's a good thing too along with the good grip wet and dry, reasonable handling, great tyre life. I got my mate up in Hastings to put a set on his Firestorm, every time I see him he rave more about them, he rides at moderate pace.
I have a set of Pirelli Angel ST's on the bike at the moment and it looks to me like the milage will end up being similar to the Road 2's, actually they might just edge the Road 2 for feel and ride comfort but for the extra money you're paying for the Angel's i'd definitely give the nod to the Road 2's.
Pilot Power 2ct's are a great tyre no question, superior tyre if you like to ride harder from time to time, they handle better by virtue that turn quicker and grip better but the down side is they don't last as long as a Road 2 or Angel ST, not by a long shot. They are also prone to flat spotting the centre of the tyre if you do even a moderate amount of straight line road riding.
