go back to looking at the R6!
At least that has a full motor............
675 are ok bikes for hooning round on. Wouldnt really like to travel any distance on one.
Would'nt want to do too big of a distance on a R6 either, very track focused bike.

Think someone's feeling blue/green. Would you like me to bring the ute around, load up your bike and drive you around on it? I'm sure we could tie it down in such a way that you could still move the bars.

And coupled with the cost of after market pipes every harley rider gets, they're laughing all the way to the bank, especially as the stats say the over 40 guys getting back into riding want a harley, and these guys are supposed to be intelligent lawyers, accountants, docs, vets, teachers etc, shows they aint too bright buying harleys.
Sure in each business there are tyre kickers, but out of the last 10 times on entering Anza,I have been acknowledged once or twice. My first day in retail in 1986 the boss said say high to each customer.Contrast that to City Honda or AFC,each time in there I have been acknowledged,ok more so at AFC,but it is the way they create repeat trade.Wuld I buy from AFC,City Honda definately;from Anza maybe(if trade in,bike to buy is ok,and I was approached).Mate who bought a new fat boy last year nearly had to prise the sales guy out of his chair to get service,no trade and cashed up,he nearly carried onto Wellington.

My humour,be about 16000km,wasn't going to change it but thought wtf and did it,hard to say how much tread left, due to the front being near bald on one side I wasn't to keen on taking it too quick through twistys to reshape the profile, about 2-3mm on edge.

gotta leave it in there, I'll only drill a small hole at the outlet so it'll slowly come out and increase the available power as you learn to best harness it. See not only does it increase the bikes aesthetics, acoustics, and performance, it also makes it safer. And once th sketti is all gone, the small hole starts to corrode, and expands to unleash the full power.
So first hour of riding you'll get about 20hp so you'll easily go from the gpx to the R6 at that, while the sketti is still in there you gain approximately 5hp for every hours riding, up to a max of 50hp, then the corrosion starts and you gain another 1hp for each subsequent hour, up to 130rwhp (more than stock cos of the can you see).

Choose Triumph. Choose the 675.
R6
The R6 has way less torque, having ridden Maria's... it was a slug round town. I could only lift the front at slow speeds in 1st and 2nd after a sprocket change. No chance in 3rd.
It has no steering damper - could headshake and high side you on the saddle or Paihiatua Track more easily than the 675.
It has no braided brake lines.
It has a basic gauge set.
It is very wide in the seat and the front end.
It has a stupid blinding white shitf light/highbeam train aircraft landing light pointing in your face.
$$$ high for the basic no frills bike.
No local dealer support.
Plus side.
It has good top end
Its a good learner bike as its lack of torque makes it slow off the mark and so slow for you to fuck up on accidentally round town.
It looks evil.
675
Expensive on parts IF you drop it. Insurance?
A little more power round town that could get you in trouble if your not prepared.
Expensive tyres if you want to maintain your warranty
Shit local dealer for go fast parts.
Plus side
All the problems of previous years rectified
Runs alot of the race kit parts as standard. Brakes/PLug and play system for Race ECU and Quickshifter kit/race cam chain tensioner
Has braided lines as standard and the best brakes of all the 600 class bikes.
And AMAZING dash this year! Was the 09 SE limited edition dash last year. Full track data logger/lap timer plus gear indicator which is surprisingly handy and missing on the jappas.
For the average mortal rider it out turns the R6, out brakes it standard and smokes it up to 100kph.
Has streetable power due to torque.
Has a trick traction control system
Has a steering damper as standard
Has fully adjustable suspension
6 other 675's in town for parts, service, manual access and go fast ideas and support.
SUPER CHEAP for what you get!!!
CBR600RR
Described by a Townsville Honda dealer hnestly as being boring. It is. Maria even hated its lack of ... anything. Its fast but boringly so. Its looks are ok, its sound is silent even with a slip on.
Good dealer support locally
Pass
ZX6R
Nice, rare locally and good dealer support. Bulky looking though
GSXR600
Rocksolid 07 bike with little changes today.
Sounds good, looks good, goes slow though. GSXR750 - TIMMA has one - is better
Short... every short!
Cheap price. Good dealer support locally
I'm not being biased toward the bike I ride. Me and Maria rode all the 600s we could find here and in T Ville before she settled on the R6 and I settled on another 675.
The R6 suited her because she saw the hassles I had with mine and the R6 was only $10000AU with 1000km on the clock so its hard to say no.
The 675 was still my choice because now I've learnt about it and ridden it for a year I've found where to get the parts to hot it up, where to seek help and as a package its more complete. Its just easier to ride faster and smoother for longer.
Test ride them all Matt.

Decide WHY you want a bike and what its meant to do for you.
Then go get the one that fits.
And forget exhausts... just learn to ride it and get the first service dealt with... then look at upgrades. There are over 20 different manufactures of slip ons for all 5 bikes, the 675 included. Me and Adam are buildin custom twin pipe setups using LOR cans, be ready in a month or two.

lol already have 2pc alpinestars! im more inclined towards the 675 due to usability, less fucking around and having local dealers....
it was only a debate between the r6 and 675... dont like the rest, plus sat on the 675 today and it was a very good height plus seeing it in the flesh i really appreciate the aesthetic qualities of the bike...

I kinda like the advice from Bogan on trying something older & cheaper. Give yourself a chance to get used to riding something with a bit more potential without a lot of cost if something silly happens. Silly things can happen to new bikes (like just falling over 'cause you're not used to the weight etc) - and it can be pretty upsetting.
Can't wait to see what you end up with but want it to be a happy and safe experience...

don't have enough money atm, they are bout $250 bucks i think, and if i'm doing a new headlight i may as well do a new instrument cluster with rear view cam (mirror emliminator) and if im' doing a rear view cam I may as well do a tail tidy, and if i'm doing a tail tidy i may as well re-route the exhaust, and while i'm re-routing it i may as well change the can for a straight through one, and while i'm doing that I shud re-jet it, and if i re-jet it i may as well go all out and run pods or free-er flowing airbox, and swap the fuel pump for a vacuum one. And if I'm increasing the engines power i should probably do a top end rebuild, check cam chains etc. Oh, did I mention this would all be after I add a linkange to the swingarm so I can run a cbr600f4 shock, and replace the forks with zxr400 ones, and mx bars to go with.

I was referring to the general rule of thumb, "the amount of attainable lean angle is inversely proportional to the amount of chrome" but your way could work too, those motogp guys sometime pick it up again after a two wheeled slide with just a knee and sometimes an elbow. Had an awesome ride yesterday, Gorge, Saddle, Gorge, gorge again, out to massey way, turn off to the Track and over the track twice then home. Hopefully the next ride will see the new pipes fitted and all the shiny bits.
The morning was spent at Manfeild for our Lunchtime Drift Demo and watching cages crunching into each other coming into Dunlop...so entertaining!!

not so much, you wouldn't happen to know bout vehicle certing? i did an engine transplant on my van (90 l300 swb) same type of block and head, gone from carby to efi though, I can't make sense of the regs, cert guy reckons it'll have over 20% more power than stock so does need cert, I can't find out what other engine variants it came out with as in theory it relates to chassis strength rather than stock engine...

It will only need a cert if they know it has been changed. The 20% more power rule is true, but, from memory you said it was a 4G63 DOHC? They came out with 92kw.....so it won't be a ball of fire. Mind you the GTi-16v Galant had 107kw and the AMG Galants had 125kw. I personally don't think it needs a cert, just tell him it's a replacement engine for a JDM van? Could be worth a shot. How will they know it isn't the standard motor?

yeh after hours of searching the reg etc, think i've come to the conclusion its down to the 20% as its the same block and head. I can't find any details bout the 1990 horsepower, but the 86 had 65kw and the galant had 77kw (its only SOHC) so an increase of 18% The wof guys know it's been swapped and sent me round to the cert guy to get an exemption note if one applies, cert guy said it'd be over the 20% rule, and a general rule is if it doesn't come out in that variant it needs a cert, the later is total bullshit according to the regs though. Technically you can't put a larger size engine into a vehicle even if that chassis came out with the engine configuration, or swap from a petrol to diesel, but it's pretty hard for the wof station to pick up on that which is why most reckon it's legit I guess.
So hopefully i'll work it out tomorow.

got it's wof today, went back to the same cert guy but he was all about the minor technicalities that would make it require a cert and didn't want to write me a note, also he was a complete asshole. Apparently if you change the engine block (could be the one that came off the line right behind it) and increase the power even the smallest bit (even put a high flow air filter on it) you need it certed, but if it's still the specific engine it came out with from factory its all good. So it's a good thing I put the same block back in it when I did the EFI conversion :shifty: Anyway, went and showed the wof guy the reg and engine specs and he said all good, will keep em in the glove box for next time!
Used to have a mate in palmy with a mig, bastard moved away though.
