Well, hello there my little toy.....
Needs new brake pads for a WOF. Oh how sad......:innocent: I have new pads in the garage....
Small dent in the tank, crack to the tail fairing, scuffed to buggery crank case cover and I just fixed one of the indicators. All superficial damage. Runs very very nice, had to give it a tiny bit more idle screw and it purrs happy as Laraldo would, if he purred.

Thanks! It's going to be superbly easy to do.
I've discovered it has a brand new Reg/Rec in it, always nice to know with a Honda of this age (Bogan can vouch for this :innocent: ) also has a new fuel tap/shut off valve. Another common problem.

What's with the egg slice on the fork?
at the risk of stating the obvious (or maybe not so obvious as my flatmate didn't recognise it) its a somewhat modified version of the honda wing logo. As the bros wheel is single disk and forks have an extra caliper mount, I reckon leving the holes empty looks fugly so did that instead :D
course the alternat answer could be that with the superior handling, extreme lean angle will ensue, and I can perhaps now flip any eggs and/or bacon that is left on the road :bleh:
edit: goddamit, it really does look like an egg slice, i fear i will have to explain it many many times

well sticky enough for the use I give em, pity its mostly commuting, bonus is with the lazy power curve (lazy cos it gives up and fucks off half way through :bleh:) it doesn't wear em out quick. Got rid of the chicken strips going ove the kaimais though, real nice high speed corning road with awesome surface on it too  Yeh the later model came out with 18 or something and rims different style than the egg beaters too eh? Oh gawd, I got egg beaters to go with my slice

well I've already rode your CB, so it'd only be fair. Yeh the kaimais isn't your typical kiwi road, is smooth as, passing lane all the way uphill, real fast flowing windy corners, apparently you can even get a good view of surrounding land up there, didn't notice that myself though...

My flatmate made it, he had some cells lying round that we were gonna try making into a bike battery for ages, just soldered them together and chuck em in there, for more permanent applications some shunt zeners would be required. Was thinking bout getting some better cells and do the same for the bros when I replace the subframe, not a lot of price difference between them and standard type now.

Do you think you can get them making the same cranking amps? What about longevity and heat? It's quite a neat idea really.

yeh can get some Headway cells for 19usd ea (need 4 per pack) which will do 150A, think the A123 cells are even better as well, but bit more pricy too, and gotta be wary of cheap knockoffs. They are deep cycle, so leaving lights on doesn't wreck em as much as for lead acids, heat build-up isnt bad, they are designed to power electric vehicles, so using as a starter battery is an easy life for em, just gotta keep the cells state of charge balanced, so maybe a custom reg/rect too just to be on the safe side.
These are back-yard skids on grass, so no tyre wear :bleh: if you're in palmy come round and have a go!

I wonder if the CB had any ignition retard crap on it? I'm fairly sure it was an NC29 motor with a beige set of cams and lower compression etc but maybe the ignition is gay? Could explain the flat spot it has.
I whipped the carbs off and cleaned them up, they weren't exactly secured very tight. Hope this solves the problem, might slam some 95 in the tank too.

do you have exact models?
Garmin Nuvi 500 (mine), it's not bike specific but it's a shit load cheaper even after buying extra's like mounting bit's and pieces to get it fitted to the bike. It's just a basic unit though, no bluetooth or any of that but it is rated as waterproof.
Garmin Zumo 550 (Meanies), not cheap but these are bike specific and higher spec meaning bluetooth etc... Comes with all the drama to fit it to the bike as far as i'm aware and can also be used in the car too as can my Nuvi 500. It's a little bulkier my unit but is better for using due to bigger screen meaning it's usable with your cloves on where mine is not so much.
Garmin Zumo 660. It's an upgrade to the Zumo 550 but a little more slimline and may possibly have another trick or two it's sleeve spec wise but are also dearer again than the Zumo 550. Apparently the Zumo 660 was a little problematic when they first released it and a lot of people choose to stay with the Zumo 550 because of it but i'm assuming they have it all sussed out now.
Strike. This is another bike specific GPS but I don't know the specs on it at all apart from I think it's the cheapest bike specific GPS you can get.
There is a bike specific GPS from Tom Tom too I think but I can't think of the name of it off the top of my head.
So theres a bit of info to get you started, cost no option I think the Zumo's 500 and 660 are the dogs bollocks but if it's a basic unit that's all you need then the Nuvi 500 is a good option.

"Ram Solutions" would be the best place to go for mounting solutions and on Garmin's website you should see hard wiring kits available for the Nuvi 500.

Zumo 550 FTW! Comes with everything for the bike & car and they're a lot cheaper now. Not sure of all the differences between them and the 660 but the 660 does have a widescreen & stereo blue tooth (only mono on the 550 eh Meanie).
Best gadget I own. Load up an SD card with MP3's and hit the road - music plus voice directions and speed camera alerts. You will need some speakers or earphones though. I also sync my phone when in the car for hands-free calls. With an intercom set like Meanies you can even do this on the bike. FMS!

you really really need the GPS to be compatible with mapsource. Its a garmin thing and a windows thing but just SOOOOOO much easier to make routes and stuff than any other software out there... and your routes will be compatible with everyone else!

Not a bad idea. And you shouldn't have the GPS in ya face anyway - too distracting, a quick glance is all you should need.
Oxford make quite a neat little tank bag with a waterproof accessory socket. I'm considering getting one for the VTR and wiring up a db under the seat so I can run the heated grips and a socket and not have them live all the time. That way I could use the zumo on the VTR with a USB charger and not have to worry about the battery running down.

Licence was given back to me today, so I went to my lecture this morning and then proceeded to do another 270km. What a beautiful day, great little bike too. No complaints except the brake feel once warm, this will be easy to fix, a nice happy bleed and she'll be as happy as I am.
Went through Ashurst and stopped in Bunnythorpe to visit a mate or two, Cowboys, do you live on the left just after the turn "into" Ashurst as one is coming from the gorge? I saw a cheeky looking green machine in a driveway on my way through both times today.
The new riding pants are high waisted, so aren't cool looking as one would like, but, damn they are comfy and wind doesn't seem to do anything for them.
All up, I only opened the bike up once or twice passing trucks and a poorly driven car or two up the Pahiatua track, took it nice and easy to get back in the groove and have some tasty as hell looking chicken strips, could feed a village with them, but I couldn't care less.

I would be a prick with the same v4, but run a variable vane turbo, bout RHB51 size (I'll find somewhere to stick it), titanium anything possible, forged rods, pistons and a nice custom crank. yeh, forget the name of the cycle, mainly used in big diesel ship engines and generators I think, cos the charger can blow fresh charge through the cylinder you can replace the exhaust port with a valve (bit higher compression) and do away with the expansion chambers, would probly have to go with direct injection so as not to piss all the fuel out the exhaust too. and with no inlet valve to worry about you could have a massive exhaust valve and the plug off to one end. Massive rpm! may need to do a bit of titanium rods to cope with it all...
that idea sounds pretty mint too, and you could use plenty of existing parts for a quick build too. A pnuematic valve project would be pretty interesting, don't spose the RVF heads are non interference? what about the cibbys?

It's a plan, the noise a bros emits is glorious even with the smallish rev range they have...I can't imagine one revving so high  Imagine the grunt it would have and the ridiculous sprockets you would need for the gearing to work...
Mine had the close ratio box. It pulled 100k or so in 1st and had tight ratios after that, which really wasn't needed. :innocent: Still epic though rolling through the square in 1st gear at 4000rpm with that stainless system and hollow can.
This is making me want another twin, stupid beige sounding 4cyl cibbie.

Fuck yeah, big bang Cibbie would be great fun!
100 in first was just touching the red line. But as far as I am aware the later model/close ratio box had idiot ratios. The 18 inch rear prob didn't help....
Another 7hp is good! I want to throw a few more teeth on my rear sprocket or go down one at the front, it is too sad rolling on in top.
I have a dyno sheet for 55rwhp for a cibbie like mine, I expect mine will be 3-4 less as the dyno sheet I got was with an end can and k&n filter.

my bros only dyno'd 41hp so i'd be surprised if you cibbie gets over 50 as I thought it had less power when I rode it...
don't think a big bang conversion would be too hard, new cams (get an agressive grind on em) and change the ignition timing (course if it's wasted spark probably wouldn't even need to redo that), rest should be all good. Maybe update the exhaust to take advantage of it at some point too.

Yeah I'll have to throw her on the dyno. Where did you get yours done?
Yeah the cibbie is sluggish as hell until warm and over 7 grand....
The cibbie seems to go a bit better than I expected up the top. I'd be happy with near 50 at the wheel really.
I haven't though if it's wasted spark....hmmmm

yeh not your average two stroke exhaust note on that sucker! May not even cost too much as I know a guy who might be able to grind the cams, would just need to buy some blanks. Be fairly easy to tell if its wasted spark from a wiring diagram.

Would be nice to get some feed back on the Metzler's before taking the plunge eh....
Struggle with the positioning of the M5's within the range of Metzler's a little, so are the M5's a Pilot Power 2ct equivalent?
From what I've heard about the Bridgy 016's they're good tires but wear out quickly. Given what i've tried so far the Road 2's Last very well and don't deteriorate into piles of puss half way through their life, all at a too outlandish price.
Something about the Metz M5's is appealing to me though, thanks to Cowboy's i'm sorted for my next set of tires but perhaps next time... Might go off in search of feedback about M5's and M8's...
Yod, might be worth a bash if it's only $33.50 the difference but look at the M8's too.
Edit: By the way Yod the M8's have the same tread pattern if that makes any difference to you, different carcass construction but similar execution.

yeah, it's more a case of "I've heard they're good but you just don't know how they'll last" but given it's positioning in the market, I'll bet your bottom dollar it doesn't last like a PR2

Cycletreads as Sarge said. BT-016's I had were OEM tyres, so not really comparable and retail version could only be better. Grip was awesome though, wear not so flash (4000km).

I'd probably agree on that choice there...the Blackbird would be smoother and nicer to tour on I imagine.

Great for cruising all day on but in saying that twins (especially of the V variety) also have an effortlessness to them. At 4,500 the VTR is in a sweet spot that just plain feels great - it's also covering the ground :innocent: At any revs on the Connie it's in a sweet spot, at 4,500 - keep a very sharp eye out for :Police:

Something's wrong there....
Went on the BMW Z3 run on Sunday, met up with a few of the Z owners in Pahiatua and we had a nice spirited convoy down to Masterton, via Tirumea and Alfreton, I enjoyed the top down motoring more than riding the Cbeige. The Z3 was a major disappointment performance wise, the 1.9 is a horrid motor and the GM trans is beige, the early ones really don't handle like my E36 Msport coupe did, nor do they stop as well. But, nonetheless I had a great time, until I realised I had heat stroke....whoopsie!
Rode home on the Cbeige today, was okay. Just cruised along at the speed limit enjoying the sun, I'll give the Cbeige more time to see if it really grows on me.
I took it over the Saddle and the Pahiatua track on way way to/from Bunnythorpe. I still just tootled along, not slow, not any where near fast...

from the next glass and drank one sink out it and threw the
rest down the bottle, which I drank. I pulled the sink
out the next glass and poured the cork down the bottle.
Then I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink
and drank the pour. When I had everything empty, I
steadied the house with one hand, counted the glasses,
corks, bottles, and sinks with the other, which was 29
and as the house came by I counted them again.
Finally, I had all the houses in one bottle, which I
drank. I'm not half as think you drunk I am. I fool
so feelish I don't know who is me and the drunker I stand
here the longer I get. I'm not under the affluence of
incohol as some tinkle peep I am.

Good bike, you can definitely notice it was designed back in the mid nineties but that said it goes well all the same, very stable. Motor is moderately powerful and reasonable low an mid torque, good brakes but they'd probably benefit from a freshen up and some braided lines by now as could the suspension too. Remember it rode pretty hard but I reckon if you got it for a song and spent some decent coin on the suspension it'd be a weapon, not the quickest handling sporting bike but it's not slow either, bank it over on it's side and it rails 'round corners.
Probably it's biggest down fall handling wise is going down hill into tight corners but on the flip side to that it's a dream going up hill, had some fun going up the Rimutaka's on that bike, had to lift my inside foot completely of the footpegs because they were folding up, very confidence inspiring going up hill. Seat comfort I never found to be that great and unless you're on open roads it could be hard on the wrists with the reach to the bars. If you wanted to get into sports riding on a bigger bike I'd recommend it, I had a ball on it.

'Nother couple of hundreed miles on the CBeige this weekend plus a run to Wellies in a mate nice wee V8.
Felt good to hop on a bike after that, even in the shit weather yesterday, so things are looking good.
Whipped the dash cluster, head light and bikini fairing off to tidy the scratches/dents in the light and cluster. Smoothed it all up and gave it a coat of satin black, assembled and leftt he bikini fairing off. Looks hot now! I think she's a sexy machine (apart from the sad seat) 225647
